Hello, I'm Simon Newton. Detectives searching for a Suffolk teenager say | :00:09. | :00:14.
they've found human remains. Luke Durbin, who was 19, vanished in 2006 | :00:15. | :00:19.
after a night out in Ipswich. Police say a piece of bone has now been | :00:20. | :00:25.
found near his former home. The fragment's now being forenshcally | :00:26. | :00:28.
tested. In a moment we'll speak to the officer leading the inqtiry But | :00:29. | :00:31.
first this from our Suffolk reporter Kevin Burch. White suits in the | :00:32. | :00:35.
trees ` it's patient, painstaking work. Detectives say this w`s a spot | :00:36. | :00:39.
that Luke used to visit. It was here two weeks ago that this fragment of | :00:40. | :00:43.
bone was discovered. Luke disappeared in 2006 after a night | :00:44. | :00:48.
out in Ipswich. He was capttred on CCTV in the early hours. Thd next | :00:49. | :00:53.
day there were two reports of him being seen in a car in Woodbridge. | :00:54. | :00:57.
Late last year the case featured on the BBC Crimewatch programmd, where | :00:58. | :00:59.
detectives revealed Luke's name and date of birth had been used in an | :01:00. | :01:09.
attempted front in Brixton. `` fraud. After that TV appeal, his | :01:10. | :01:12.
mother spoke of her ongoing quest for answers. It's such a mixed range | :01:13. | :01:17.
of emotions. You're thinking this could be it... Finally be it. There | :01:18. | :01:20.
are answers we're desperate for Officers said today their fhrst | :01:21. | :01:23.
priority had been to update the family on developments. Thex've | :01:24. | :01:26.
cordoned off a large area of woodland between The Avenue and | :01:27. | :01:28.
Parklands. They've appealed for people to stay away to avoid | :01:29. | :01:32.
hampering their work. This woman lives nearby and knew Luke Durbin. | :01:33. | :01:35.
She says they've seen policd activity for days. One of the | :01:36. | :01:40.
neighbours asked and they s`id it was just a training exercisd. But I | :01:41. | :01:45.
turned up today and it's all been cordoned off. It's quite a few years | :01:46. | :01:52.
down the line now. It would be nice to close the book, as one mhght say. | :01:53. | :01:56.
Police say they'll be relying on the expertise of forensic | :01:57. | :01:59.
anthropologists. They'll ex`mine the bone to determine whether it's male | :02:00. | :02:03.
or female and how old it is. They say it could take up to thrde weeks. | :02:04. | :02:07.
They expect to remain here on site for some time. Well, joining us now | :02:08. | :02:15.
is Detective Superintendent John Brocklebank. Just explain the | :02:16. | :02:32.
process please? We have a tdam of officers and that includes forensic | :02:33. | :02:45.
officers. They are examining key areas and we are looking for further | :02:46. | :02:53.
remains. This area was once landfill and near to a former hospit`l? It | :02:54. | :03:03.
makes it a little difficult. We have to look at all the options of why | :03:04. | :03:15.
the bone may be there. Another awful day for Luke's mother ` how is she | :03:16. | :03:28.
coping? I've spoken to her. She is very apprehensive. We need to try to | :03:29. | :03:41.
get a resolution as fast as possible. Their could be an innocent | :03:42. | :03:54.
explanation but our objective is to get it sorted. The search whll | :03:55. | :04:04.
continue for some days yet. We will put dogs in the location. Then we | :04:05. | :04:17.
will have forensic examinathon of any finds. That could take `round | :04:18. | :04:24.
three weeks. Ten members of a drugs gang which | :04:25. | :04:28.
operated from a house near Norwich have been jailed. The gang ran a | :04:29. | :04:31.
network of cocaine dealers `nd were caught after a lengthy survdillance | :04:32. | :04:34.
operation by police. These `re the faces of the gang who supplhed vast | :04:35. | :04:38.
quantities of Cocaine across the streets of Norfolk. And this is the | :04:39. | :04:41.
man who led them ` 32`year`old Anthony Yallop. He ran his drug | :04:42. | :04:44.
business from this quiet residential street in Bowthorpe. He had a taste | :04:45. | :04:48.
for designer clothes and was caught on camera boasting that he could | :04:49. | :04:51.
make around ?150,000 a year from his network of dealers. It took police | :04:52. | :04:54.
nine months of surveillance before busting the gang. The cocaine seized | :04:55. | :04:58.
has an estimated street valte of ?100,000. This is a significant | :04:59. | :05:04.
group of individuals who have been taken off the streets of Norfolk. | :05:05. | :05:11.
The supply route, as we've heard, was through Cambridgeshire hnto | :05:12. | :05:14.
north Norfolk and then the Xarmouth area. Today at Norwich Crown Court | :05:15. | :05:19.
the gang was sentenced to jtst over 65 years. Yallop got 16. Nicholas | :05:20. | :05:26.
Grady, who supplied cocaine in the Great Yarmouth area, was jahled for | :05:27. | :05:33.
13. William Haddow, Yallop's second in command, got eight years. The | :05:34. | :05:38.
judge said class A drugs were a problem in all cities. Herohn and | :05:39. | :05:42.
crack cocaine a great probldm in Great Yarmouth. His message ` | :05:43. | :05:46.
Norfolk is nowhere for anyone who takes part in this evil trade. | :05:47. | :05:55.
Police have been pulling ovdr motorists in Ipswich tonight, | :05:56. | :05:58.
looking for witnesses 24 hotrs after a woman was raped. The 27`ydar`old | :05:59. | :06:01.
was dragged into the alley off Cromer Road around 8:30pm. She's | :06:02. | :06:04.
described her attacker as bding in his late 30s with short black hair | :06:05. | :06:13.
and dressed in black. A man in his 60s has been rdscued | :06:14. | :06:16.
after being trapped ten feet underground in two feet of slurry in | :06:17. | :06:20.
Suffolk. He'd been standing on the lid of a slurry tank when it | :06:21. | :06:24.
collapsed underneath him at a farm near Otley. He suffered injtries to | :06:25. | :06:27.
his feet when the concrete lid fell on him. | :06:28. | :06:35.
That's all from me. Here's @lex Dolan with the weather. Thank you. | :06:36. | :06:46.
