First tonight, hundreds of people have turned out to hear Nigdl Farage

The UKIP leader was addresshng voters ahead of the Clacton

by`election which will take place in two weeks' time.

The election has been prompted by the defection of Conserv`tive MP

for Clacton Douglas Carswell to the UK Independence Party.

Our political correspondent Andrew Sinclair was at tonight's

Public political meetings where anybody can turn up and listen to a

leader to visit Clacton so far so the meeting was significant and more

outside. Most of them are not UKIP members but UKIP are saying this is

the biggest public meeting dver held in Clacton. Nigel Farage got a

standing ovation when he arrived, he attacked the career politic`l

class, he questioned global warming and attacked the government over

immigration and of course hd attacked the European Union.

We want a free Europe of democratic sovereign states that

trade with each other and don't fight each other.

political earthquake they intend to cause. Interesting to see the issues

people were talking about, immigration came up a lot, the

impact it is having on the local community, questions about GP

shortages, house`building, `nd a very loud cheer when somebody asked

about switching off streetlhghts in Essex. They asked about `` the

crime. It was interesting to hear Mr Carswell criticising his former

party. He said the concerns in Clacton are a microcosm of what the

a case of domestic abuse. The Independent Police Complaints

Commission is looking at why the force took

daughter, were murdered. Improving the force's response to

domestic violence is now a personal priority of the

Chief Constable, Stephen Kavanagh. The county's Police and
