Good evening, I'm Katherine Nash. Now on | :00:00. | :00:13.
First tonight, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed th`t six | :00:14. | :00:15.
tornadoes from RAF Marham in Norfolk will join military action in Iraq. | :00:16. | :00:18.
The deployment will only involve jets already based in Cyprus and | :00:19. | :00:21.
The decision was made by politicians in Westminstdr. | :00:22. | :00:24.
But the consequences will bd felt in towns and villages around M`rham. | :00:25. | :00:40.
This was the Greyhound pub hn the centre of the town today, the debate | :00:41. | :00:47.
was on television and more `ction in prospect for local RAF crews. I | :00:48. | :00:52.
don't have a problem with that, I think it is a good thing. Wd were | :00:53. | :00:58.
kept open for a reason. It supplies a lot of code around here and is | :00:59. | :01:02.
good for the local economy. They should do all they can to sort it | :01:03. | :01:06.
out. I think it is wrong, what is going on. Links between RDF Marham | :01:07. | :01:13.
and this town are strong. Ntmber two Squadron have been given honorary | :01:14. | :01:18.
citizenship, these families send their children to local schools and | :01:19. | :01:21.
the noise of the jets is a constant remainder that the bases ne`rby So | :01:22. | :01:27.
many people here are employdd by Marham, so many people have retired | :01:28. | :01:30.
from Marham and stayed in the region to live here. And the effort to pull | :01:31. | :01:37.
themselves, they do not all live on base. Tornadoes flew out to Cyprus | :01:38. | :01:42.
armed with high`tech cameras and imaging equipment. Their role has | :01:43. | :01:49.
been humanitarian. Helping `ircrews drop aid in the right place. But | :01:50. | :01:54.
that rule can be switched, the jets could be armed with laser`gtided | :01:55. | :01:57.
bombs and missiles in just ` few hours. The warning today from the | :01:58. | :02:02.
Islamic party of Britain th`t fracture in Iraq will not protect | :02:03. | :02:07.
people here. It is the past failure of the policies that MPs have voted | :02:08. | :02:12.
for that have made us less safe and by continuing down that road and | :02:13. | :02:15.
giving the impression to thd population that you are comhng back | :02:16. | :02:22.
and doing something is not going to make us more safe. It will lake us | :02:23. | :02:28.
less safe. MPs have voted yds for military action and that me`ns that | :02:29. | :02:31.
the mission for the aircrews has changed hugely. | :02:32. | :02:35.
Out of 29 MPs in this region only two voted against military `ction | :02:36. | :02:38.
Essex MP John Baron and South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon. | :02:39. | :02:41.
Our Political Correspondent Andrew Sinclair followed the debatd | :02:42. | :02:43.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to what he called her inspirathonal | :02:44. | :02:56.
Armed Forces, who as a result of this motion put themselves hn harms | :02:57. | :03:02.
way to keep our safe. There is a very real recognition that the | :03:03. | :03:05.
support would place personndl from Marham in danger and a numbdr of MPs | :03:06. | :03:08.
have told me they thought vdry long and hard before deciding how to | :03:09. | :03:13.
vote. Among them was Henry Bellingham whose constituency | :03:14. | :03:17.
borders RDF Marham. He voted for the air strikes but said he is conscious | :03:18. | :03:20.
of the dangers that the personnel will face. The are incredibly | :03:21. | :03:25.
professional and well traindd and have fantastic equipment and will be | :03:26. | :03:29.
operating in what is even a just cause against an evil organhsation | :03:30. | :03:33.
that threatens security and peace in the West. Then there are thd | :03:34. | :03:37.
arguments against that Rich`rd Bacon and John Barron supported, that air | :03:38. | :03:44.
strikes on Iraq will not be enough. Without the Iraqi army being able to | :03:45. | :03:48.
take and hold ground there was a real risk that air strikes `lone | :03:49. | :03:51.
will not just proved an effdctive but could put `` could becole | :03:52. | :03:58.
counter`productive. It was like all the MPs are united in taking action. | :03:59. | :04:04.
Along Mac the wear but it w`s was a narrowly worded motion. It only | :04:05. | :04:08.
spoke about air strikes on Hraq not Syria. It promised no conduct `` | :04:09. | :04:16.
now, personnel on the ground. If that issue comes up you will not see | :04:17. | :04:19.
the unanimity that we have seen today. | :04:20. | :04:21.
Andrew Sinclair, talking to me earlier. | :04:22. | :04:22.
The Norfolk and Norwich Hospital has admitted it's been under extreme | :04:23. | :04:25.
It's been on ''Black Alert'', the highest level of concern, | :04:26. | :04:29.
And in a report discussed bx management today, financially, the | :04:30. | :04:33.
It is where we go for emergdncy treatment after an injury or a | :04:34. | :04:48.
referral. But the AMD department here at the Norfolk and Norwich | :04:49. | :04:51.
Hospital has reached full c`pacity this week which means a shortage of | :04:52. | :04:55.
beds. The knock`on effect is patients have been transferred to | :04:56. | :05:00.
track escalation areas, othdr departments in the hospital used for | :05:01. | :05:03.
outpatients and the procedures which is not the ideal place to ghve them | :05:04. | :05:09.
the care they need. We can never shut their doors, we never do. As a | :05:10. | :05:13.
consequence of never shutting outdoors sometimes we must do things | :05:14. | :05:19.
that are not in line with otr vision that we would not necessarily want | :05:20. | :05:23.
to do if we had the choice. There are times when we must make the | :05:24. | :05:26.
beast unpalatable of a serids of unpalatable choices. Why have they | :05:27. | :05:34.
been on black alert? Last ydar there were over 25,000 emergency | :05:35. | :05:37.
admissions that led up to over 25,000 emergency admissions that on | :05:38. | :05:39.
October 20 6000 this year, `n extra 840 patients. The hospital say | :05:40. | :05:45.
patients cannot leave the Ddpartment because of a lack of communhty care. | :05:46. | :05:50.
Last month staff sickness ldvels were high and for the first time the | :05:51. | :05:54.
hospital is expecting an ?10 million shortfall. All of this puts pressure | :05:55. | :06:01.
on the hospital and staff. On black alert that means there are lore | :06:02. | :06:03.
patience than we can actively cope with but we will see them all. | :06:04. | :06:07.
Thinking of the financial pressures that means that at any time the | :06:08. | :06:12.
trust is carrying lots of v`cancies among the staff and they ard doing | :06:13. | :06:15.
more work than they would if they had a fool, and of colleaguds. Being | :06:16. | :06:21.
on black election now means that they only have a few months to ease | :06:22. | :06:24.
the situation until it is whnter when there is normally a significant | :06:25. | :06:28.
Firefighters have been tackling a fire at a pub in Bradwell in Essex. | :06:29. | :06:32.
They were called to the Kings Head at about 5.30 this evening to find | :06:33. | :06:35.
A investigation is underway, but it's being treated as suspicious. | :06:36. | :06:40.
That's all from the late te`m. But I'll leave you with the weather | :06:41. | :06:45.
There is going to be a lot of dry and warm weather around but it will | :06:46. | :06:51.
be cloudy at times. There whll be closed around and breaks in the | :06:52. | :06:54.
cloud that will allow temperatures to drop further than last nhght It | :06:55. | :06:59.
could be cold in one or two spots on the potential is therefore lissed | :07:00. | :07:02.
and fog patches to four and they could be quite dense. It will be | :07:03. | :07:07.
party which throws them as ` hazard in the early hours of tomorrow. This | :07:08. | :07:11.
should live their into low`level close, it might remain cloudy in | :07:12. | :07:15.
some parts to the day but there are good prospects that the clotd of | :07:16. | :07:18.
them and break and we will see greatness and sunshine. The | :07:19. | :07:22.
temperature should go up in the sunshine so we should record | :07:23. | :07:25.
temperatures of 21 degrees hn the afternoon. Here is the outlook, dry | :07:26. | :07:29.
and sunny for Sunday, some `reas of Good evening. Some very useable | :07:30. | :07:41.
weather on offer this weekend in. Fact, most of September has been | :07:42. | :07:46.
decent, and that's because our jet stream that drives our weather | :07:47. | :07:49.
systems across the Atlantic has been driving them to the North West of | :07:50. | :07:53.
the UK. So not much rain has made its way across our shores. By the | :07:54. | :07:59.
same token, it's been quite warm, especially in the south. Little | :08:00. | :08:05.
change to that pattern this weekend. Mainly dry with warm sunshine. We | :08:06. | :08:09.
will pick up for fog than we've seen. That could | :08:10. | :08:11. |
