Life imprisonment for the four men who murdered this Bedford r`pper, | :00:00. | :00:08.
His mother says he simply didn't deserve it. | :00:09. | :00:15.
He was a loving person. And he was so friendly. He was a reallx nice | :00:16. | :00:23.
person. 800 letters to parents, | :00:24. | :00:26.
almost 200 calls to a helplhne: the aftermath of the conviction | :00:27. | :00:29.
of this doctor for sexually abusing The burglars on the run ` r`mming | :00:30. | :00:31.
police cars to make their escape. And getting clothes to the shops ` | :00:32. | :00:40.
inside one First tonight, the teenaged rap | :00:41. | :00:43.
artist who was stabbed to ddath Isaac Stone was chased, cornered | :00:44. | :01:00.
and attacked, apparently in revenge Today four men were found gtilty | :01:01. | :01:04.
of his murder ` Mike Cartwright was in court and | :01:05. | :01:10.
joins us from our Luton newsroom. Two brothers were among the four men | :01:11. | :01:26.
found guilty of murder. Thex had planned the attack together in the | :01:27. | :01:31.
early evening on a Bedford street they took their revenge. Thdy took a | :01:32. | :01:36.
teenager's life. A talented rapper who had posted his music video on | :01:37. | :01:38.
the web. In the middle, Isaac Stone | :01:39. | :01:41.
and the rap video he made. Just hour after it was seen | :01:42. | :01:44.
on the web, the teenager was surrounded, beaten, stabbed | :01:45. | :01:49.
on a suburban Bedford street. Viciously attacked with him, | :01:50. | :01:54.
his friend, a meat cleaver Today, these two men were | :01:55. | :01:57.
found guilty for his attack. Two of four all found guiltx | :01:58. | :02:07.
of murder. Young men aged 19 to 22 who here | :02:08. | :02:09.
carried out a premeditated `ttack In court, | :02:10. | :02:12.
their victims' family shoutdd "yes" A mother who spoke to us | :02:13. | :02:19.
about her son. He was not an angel, | :02:20. | :02:25.
but Isaac was my son. He was always that loveable, cheeky | :02:26. | :02:31.
young person that everybody would say to him when say s`w him, | :02:32. | :02:46.
I saw your Isaac and he gavd me The judge described the att`ck | :02:47. | :02:50.
and vicious and merciless. He said the background was tnclear, | :02:51. | :02:59.
but the video posted on YouTube was If these young men feel as | :03:00. | :03:02.
if they're untouchable, here is a case that helps to explain | :03:03. | :03:11.
and hopefully sends a clear message You are accountable for your actions | :03:12. | :03:14.
and I certainly don't want to be sat in the same position again where I | :03:15. | :03:19.
have got a grieving mother for a young son that has been killed with | :03:20. | :03:23.
a knife and another set of parents who are looking | :03:24. | :03:32.
at their young son being locked up Isaac Stone became interestdd | :03:33. | :03:35.
in rap music aged 15. He was | :03:36. | :03:38.
the school's first prefect, a grade A student, Dynamikk a | :03:39. | :03:40.
nickname for his football skills. It was | :03:41. | :03:42.
a testament to Isaac that that 00 people turned up do his his funeral | :03:43. | :03:44.
from all walks of life ` his friends from school football, music were | :03:45. | :03:48.
joined by family, teachers `nd so Everyone spoke of how politd Isaac | :03:49. | :03:51.
was and how he would always takd time to | :03:52. | :03:56.
speak to people, no matter where he Two brothers are | :03:57. | :03:59.
among the guilty four. Why these men carried out | :04:00. | :04:04.
the attack isn't fully known. Some sort of retaliation th`t took a | :04:05. | :04:06.
teenager, a talented rapper's life. In court the video was described as | :04:07. | :04:22.
a drunken filmed deliberately provocative. The filmed on the | :04:23. | :04:26.
streets close to where the would be attackers lived. You see drhnk being | :04:27. | :04:32.
sprayed on graffiti which s`ys somebody name. Who that is has not | :04:33. | :04:36.
been confirmed to anyone. Btt the judge said it was a reminder of the | :04:37. | :04:41.
dangers when knives fall into the hands of young people. Thank you. | :04:42. | :04:45.
Addenbrookes Hospital has rdvealed more details of | :04:46. | :04:47.
its operation to reassure f`milies who may have been in contact with | :04:48. | :04:50.
More details have emerged today of the operation. | :04:51. | :04:56.
The child cancer consultant faces a long prison sentence | :04:57. | :04:58.
after pleading guilty to 25 counts that include sexual assault of 8 | :04:59. | :05:01.
800 families have been contacted amid fears more | :05:02. | :05:05.
A master manipulator, Myles Bradbury groomed his young patients | :05:06. | :05:14.
He may well have gone the extra mile to spend mord time | :05:15. | :05:21.
And people would have looked at that and said: isn't he a great surgeon, | :05:22. | :05:26.
He's going out of his way to spend a lot of time with these kids. | :05:27. | :05:31.
But his ulterior motive is to have more contact with them in private. | :05:32. | :05:34.
This mother will never know if her son was one of Bradbtry's | :05:35. | :05:37.
Declan, who was three, died from leukaemia. | :05:38. | :05:39.
His treatment at Addenbrookes lasted over a year. | :05:40. | :05:41.
Her shock echoes that of hundreds of families whose children were | :05:42. | :05:44.
Having cancer is not a nice thing, when you see how ill those children | :05:45. | :05:52.
are and the effects the drugs have on them and then | :05:53. | :05:55.
for him to do things like that is just the lowest of the low. | :05:56. | :06:00.
Addenbrookes Hospital sent this letter about Bradbury to | :06:01. | :06:03.
800 families, almost 200 calls have been made to its hotline. | :06:04. | :06:06.
30 since yesterday when he `ppeared in court. | :06:07. | :06:10.
He was caught after the grandmother of a patient called the hospital at | :06:11. | :06:15.
around the same time Suffolk police raided his house and arrestdd him | :06:16. | :06:18.
They passed the investigation to Cambridgeshire. | :06:19. | :06:23.
Experts in child abuse say there needs to be a greater awareness | :06:24. | :06:26.
It would need a lot more tr`ining and I think all people across all | :06:27. | :06:33.
forms of society ` parents, teachers, health care professionals | :06:34. | :06:35.
` need more support, they nded more education in grooming, so they can | :06:36. | :06:40.
recognise it because quite frankly if we can't recognise | :06:41. | :06:43.
the signs of grooming, we cant protect our children. | :06:44. | :06:45.
Myles Bradbury's youngest known hospital victim was aged eight. | :06:46. | :06:53.
He's been told by the judge he faces a long prison sentencd. | :06:54. | :07:01.
John Cameron is the Head of Child Protection at the NSPCC ` | :07:02. | :07:04.
I asked him how rare the situation with Miles Bradbury is? | :07:05. | :07:12.
This is a Degraceful misuse of the trust that has been invested in | :07:13. | :07:18.
Bradbury. He took advantage to abuse some of the most vulnerable children | :07:19. | :07:26.
in our society for his own self sexual gratification. It is shocking | :07:27. | :07:29.
and unsatisfactory and thankfully though it continues to be a rare | :07:30. | :07:35.
event. The hospital says th`t Myles Bradbury manipulated the ch`perone | :07:36. | :07:40.
system. Are the rules for Shap roaming strict enough? Clearly they | :07:41. | :07:46.
are challenging for medical services who have work with children in an | :07:47. | :07:51.
intimate way in terms of thdir treatment. But what we have got to | :07:52. | :07:56.
do is wait until the serious case review that will be held to see if | :07:57. | :08:00.
there is any particular findings that come out in any recommdndations | :08:01. | :08:05.
that can be made. The medic`l staff were shocked by his behaviotr. And | :08:06. | :08:10.
they were duped by him. So ly initial thoughts are that they are | :08:11. | :08:14.
doing everything possible to make sure that children are safeguarded. | :08:15. | :08:18.
Is the government working h`rd enough. It seems there no sdt policy | :08:19. | :08:23.
with this. It is up to each individual trust. We would hnvite | :08:24. | :08:28.
any discussions to be had bdtween government and the hospital trust to | :08:29. | :08:33.
ensure that the child protection policies are adequate. How difficult | :08:34. | :08:38.
ditz become when you have pdrhaps a teenager, if they don't want a | :08:39. | :08:43.
stranger sitting in there whth them, what are you supposed to do as a | :08:44. | :08:47.
parent? I think as a parent you have got to talk to your medical staff to | :08:48. | :08:52.
make sure that the best tre`tment is available. Obviously, you instill | :08:53. | :08:56.
trust in that professional to make sure that if they do have an | :08:57. | :08:59.
intimate examination of your child they do so in a safe way. None of | :09:00. | :09:08.
those parents I feel sure fdlt Bradbury was a Ras risk to their | :09:09. | :09:12.
children. We find these indhviduals are very cunning and clever in how | :09:13. | :09:18.
they cover up their tracks. That is the difficulty for a parent, because | :09:19. | :09:22.
you do trust the doctor, particularly one who you believe is | :09:23. | :09:27.
trying to save your child's life. How you say, sorry I'm not leaving. | :09:28. | :09:32.
I'm sure the medical staff hf they have the bell being of your child at | :09:33. | :09:37.
heart will listen to your whshes and there no reason why parents should | :09:38. | :09:43.
not be present in some of examinations. But when therd is a | :09:44. | :09:47.
17`year`old for instance, who is undergoing that type of a mddical | :09:48. | :09:51.
examination they may feel embarrassed about their pardnts | :09:52. | :09:56.
being present. So I think for the parent they need to make sure that | :09:57. | :10:02.
there is a proper system in place in their absence so their child is | :10:03. | :10:06.
safeguarded. But the key message that we need to get out is this is a | :10:07. | :10:14.
rare vent. Most doctors and practitioners are doing thehr best | :10:15. | :10:18.
to safeguard children and if you have any concerns you need to raise | :10:19. | :10:22.
that with the health authorhty and if you have concerns about the | :10:23. | :10:26.
welfare of your child in anx setting, you can call the NSPCC for | :10:27. | :10:33.
advice as well. John Cameron talking earlier. | :10:34. | :10:35.
A day centre in Wellingborotgh which had been threatened with closure, | :10:36. | :10:38.
In June, the local council recommended that Glamis Hall ` | :10:39. | :10:41.
which cares for elderly people ` was too expensive to keep open. | :10:42. | :10:44.
But after a fierce campaign, councillors are now looking again | :10:45. | :10:46.
No one could doubt that this centre has seen better days. | :10:47. | :10:53.
But when it was suggested its days could be numbered, | :10:54. | :10:55.
Sarah's mum uses the centre twice a week and the decision to close it | :10:56. | :11:02.
Nothing I said or did helped in any way. | :11:03. | :11:12.
It was absolutely sleepless nights and just such stress that it put | :11:13. | :11:15.
After a campaign which saw over 10,000 signatures | :11:16. | :11:23.
gathered on a petition, tonhght a committee will assess sevdral new | :11:24. | :11:26.
options, including a reduced service in another building. | :11:27. | :11:31.
The management of the centre could be transferred to a | :11:32. | :11:34.
The site could be sold and a new centre built and still | :11:35. | :11:41.
on the table full closure and an end today care services. | :11:42. | :11:45.
We are not asking for a brand`new building. | :11:46. | :11:51.
A 45 years old building does need repairs. | :11:52. | :11:56.
To have it refurbished would be fantastic. | :11:57. | :12:01.
The council says it has followed procedures, | :12:02. | :12:02.
but says it could have handled the situation more sensitivdly. | :12:03. | :12:10.
Which by law we are not required to consult. | :12:11. | :12:12.
But you say you don't have to consult. | :12:13. | :12:15.
We don't think, we are think we are OK | :12:16. | :12:23.
The important consultation was actually with the users of the hall | :12:24. | :12:27.
and we have been out of talk to at least 1616 of them out of 15 . | :12:28. | :12:34.
The campaigners told me that regardless of the outcome | :12:35. | :12:38.
of the meeting, the fact that the council is now | :12:39. | :12:40.
reconsidering its decision on Glamis Hall is a victory for peopld power. | :12:41. | :12:55.
An appeal to find two men who raped a woman at a raceway in Bedfordshire | :12:56. | :12:59.
is being broadcast on Crimewatch tonight. The 20`year`old was | :13:00. | :13:01.
attacked at Santa Pod after spending the day at the Dragstagia event | :13:02. | :13:04.
Police are trying to make contact with a man she spent time whth | :13:05. | :13:07.
earlier that evening. Anna Todd reports. | :13:08. | :13:13.
A young woman enjoying a dax out at Santa Pod race way. But the crime | :13:14. | :13:24.
Watch reconstruction takes ` terrifying turn. The woman seen | :13:25. | :13:28.
before she is rained. The vhctim spent time in the bar that night and | :13:29. | :13:34.
left with an acquaintance c`lled Darren at about 1am. She walked him | :13:35. | :13:38.
to his tent and left around half an hour later. As she went off site, | :13:39. | :13:44.
she was grabbed by the hair and seriously assaulted by two white | :13:45. | :13:48.
men. That is all the inform`tion police have about the offenders But | :13:49. | :13:54.
they believe the man called Darren may hold valuable information. He is | :13:55. | :13:59.
thought to be from the Wellingborough area. They urge him | :14:00. | :14:03.
to get in touch. It has been a difficult investigation and it is | :14:04. | :14:06.
hoped tonight's appeal may bring forward new witnesses who wdre at | :14:07. | :14:14.
the event in July. It was stch a large event, there were over 4, 00 | :14:15. | :14:18.
people there. A number left very early in the morning. As a result, | :14:19. | :14:21.
we have not had a chance to speak to all the witnesses in the case, that | :14:22. | :14:26.
we know are out there. Once we have spoke to all the witnesses, we hope | :14:27. | :14:30.
the events will become clearer and that should lead us to the hdentity | :14:31. | :14:34.
of the perpetrators. Some of the revellers may not even know an | :14:35. | :14:38.
investigation is taking place. This new appeal could be the key to | :14:39. | :14:40.
finding Ute who is responsible. In football there's a full programme | :14:41. | :14:48.
of Football League action this evening. In League One. Petdrborough | :14:49. | :14:51.
could go top with an away whn at Gillingham. Third place MK Dons who | :14:52. | :14:54.
scored five at the weekend, are at home to Bradford. In League Two | :14:55. | :14:57.
Cambridge and Northampton are both at home. The U's face Exeter, while | :14:58. | :15:00.
the Cobblers entertain Hartlepool. Stevenage are away at Bury `nd Luton | :15:01. | :15:02.
are at York. There'll be coverage on your local BBC Radio Station. And | :15:03. | :15:06.
I'll have the results on Look East An ancient Egyptian coffin lid that | :15:07. | :15:09.
was auctioned near Cambridgd at the weekend for ?12,000 could | :15:10. | :15:20.
appear at a private museum. The 6 foot 5 inches tall Egxptian | :15:21. | :15:22.
artefact is believed to be `lmost 3,000 years old and was discovered | :15:23. | :15:25.
during a house clearance. It was owned by big adventurer | :15:26. | :15:28.
and journalist Captain Tiger Sarll, The new owner didn't want to be | :15:29. | :15:30.
named, but intends to place it Five continents in 380 days | :15:31. | :15:36.
and all for charity. The police have released dr`matic | :15:37. | :16:05.
pictures of a police car being rammed bx another | :16:06. | :16:07.
car in which two suspected burglars Police forces across | :16:08. | :16:12.
the region are now searching for the Luke Wall and Teresa Connors, | :16:13. | :16:16.
both in their early twenties, are thought to have broken into scores | :16:17. | :16:22.
of homes and taken at least ?50 ,000 If police walks towards the | :16:23. | :16:38.
passenger door of a car, but he has to jump clear as the car suddenly | :16:39. | :16:43.
reverses, Rams and the police car and speeds off. This time, hn | :16:44. | :16:51.
Cambridgeshire, I police motorcyclist wants to questhon the | :16:52. | :16:55.
occupants of another car. As he gets off his bike, it is rammed. | :16:56. | :17:07.
The drivers stopped to make sure he's OK. An awful experiencd for the | :17:08. | :17:17.
officers, absolutely awful. I wouldn't want to offend those | :17:18. | :17:22.
officers. They were placed hn danger. Lucky doesn't descrhbe how | :17:23. | :17:26.
they got away with not being injured. It really was that close to | :17:27. | :17:34.
being potentially killed. 20`year`old Luke Wall is thought to | :17:35. | :17:38.
have been in both cars. Polhce say he is on the run with his | :17:39. | :17:42.
girlfriend, 23`year`old mother of three Teresa Connors. Luke Wall was | :17:43. | :17:52.
released on bail on a chargd of conspiracy to burgle. But hd broke | :17:53. | :18:01.
his terms of bail. Teresa Connors is also been released on bail. She was | :18:02. | :18:09.
meant to attend a police st`tion on August 13, but she didn't ttrn up. | :18:10. | :18:14.
Police believe that she left her children with family so she could be | :18:15. | :18:20.
with Luke Wall. There are scores of houses that have been targeted. | :18:21. | :18:29.
There were valuable stolen tp to ?500,000. Why would you say to | :18:30. | :18:36.
friends and family of them? Give them up. Why are you harborhng | :18:37. | :18:42.
offenders? But this video shows the risks they may take two avohd | :18:43. | :18:44.
capture. Here in the east, we are very good | :18:45. | :18:47.
at things like bio`science, And we are one | :18:48. | :18:50.
of the biggest centres for distribution, with lots of huge | :18:51. | :18:53.
warehouses full of goods wahting to One of the biggest, | :18:54. | :18:57.
the Sainsbury?s depot in Bedford, It handles the supermarket's own | :18:58. | :19:02.
brand clothing, Our business correspondent Richard | :19:03. | :19:06.
Bond has been allowed a look inside. There are some bizarre placds | :19:07. | :19:12.
in this region, Being here is like watching an army | :19:13. | :19:14.
on the march, except there `re no shouted orders, just a procdssion | :19:15. | :19:23.
of fashion items making its way It's ten years ago today th`t | :19:24. | :19:26.
Sainsbury's started selling its own`brand clothing and ht has | :19:27. | :19:33.
certainly shaken up the rag trade. It has gone | :19:34. | :19:36.
from nowhere to being Britahn's And for the last three years, the | :19:37. | :19:39.
operation has been based in this It is the size of | :19:40. | :19:46.
around 12 football pitches. Coming from Asia into ports such | :19:47. | :19:55.
as Felixstowe. They travel along 32 miles | :19:56. | :19:57.
of hanging rails and are earmarked Everything is sold under | :19:58. | :20:01.
Sainsbury's' Tu clothing br`nd. This is our one national clothing | :20:02. | :20:09.
distribution centre, so this Ten years ago, | :20:10. | :20:11.
all we had in clothing was seven people working in a kind of a hut, | :20:12. | :20:18.
so you can see now that this is It is nearly 1 million square feet, | :20:19. | :20:23.
and over 700 people work here. We have possibly up to 30 | :20:24. | :20:30.
different nationalities on site From Eastern European and | :20:31. | :20:40.
from basically all over the world. Is it difficult to communic`te | :20:41. | :20:43.
with all of them? Their level | :20:44. | :20:45.
of English is pretty good. It is a requirement when coling | :20:46. | :20:48.
on site that we have a certain level of English | :20:49. | :20:50.
so we can communicate quite well. If you look at this depot, | :20:51. | :20:55.
there's 4 million items that come into the depot every week, there's 4 | :20:56. | :20:58.
million items that go out. There is around | :20:59. | :21:01.
about 11 million stockholding and if we look at our business tod`y, we | :21:02. | :21:04.
have grown to over a three puarters of ?1 billion business now hn the UK | :21:05. | :21:07.
on Sainsbury's' Tu clothing alone. With its position between the M | :21:08. | :21:12.
and A1, Bedford has attractdd several large distribution hubs | :21:13. | :21:16.
a growing source of jobs It is fascinating, isn't it? Where | :21:17. | :21:19.
do they go? Anyway, who knows? Peter Dudfield is a student | :21:20. | :21:41.
at Cambridge University and he says he's planning to take | :21:42. | :21:43.
two weeks off to sleep. He's just finished | :21:44. | :21:46.
a round`the`world bike ride He's ridden 18,640 miles, | :21:47. | :21:50.
across five continents, in 380 days and has raised ?14, 00 | :21:51. | :21:57.
for the British Red Cross. Cambridge is of course a city of | :21:58. | :22:18.
cyclists, but few people cotld match the achievement of this on two | :22:19. | :22:23.
wheels. Looking back, how does the man himself way it all up? @ moment | :22:24. | :22:34.
of madness. It was crazy. Pdter who is 25, set off last year. A keen | :22:35. | :22:40.
cyclist already, he wanted to raise money for charity. It is very | :22:41. | :22:47.
important. It is hard to put yourself in the position of people | :22:48. | :22:51.
losing everything. I'm confhdent this is a good cause. | :22:52. | :23:06.
My girlfriend has been to vhsit me and I've done over 3000 km. He | :23:07. | :23:19.
didn't, he admits, have a sdt route. His friends joined him sometimes, | :23:20. | :23:23.
but mostly he was on his own. He said he was sometimes lonelx. I | :23:24. | :23:28.
wasn't afraid of people, but there were animals. I was afraid of | :23:29. | :23:33.
getting injured, but more the animals. Snakes, bears, wild dogs. | :23:34. | :23:43.
People are so friendly. Thex want to help you, you are on a bike and | :23:44. | :23:47.
defenseless. Everyone wants to help you. Any punches? Just ten, so not | :23:48. | :23:58.
many. `` punctures. My mum was a bit worried. I try to get a bit of | :23:59. | :24:07.
Internet and message them. Would you let you do something like this | :24:08. | :24:18.
again? Probably. The trusty bicycle has been decorated. It servds as a | :24:19. | :24:24.
reminder of the distance he has notched up in 17 countries. The trip | :24:25. | :24:28.
of a lifetime. But there's nothing like coming home. Just try to relax, | :24:29. | :24:35.
sleep and eat properly. It hs the end of the journey but it is good. | :24:36. | :24:41.
Would you do it again? Yeah. I would recommend it to anyone. | :24:42. | :24:48.
He didn't get on the bike, he pushed it! Well done. The weather. | :24:49. | :24:58.
After a foggy start to the day, we will see more mornings like that. | :24:59. | :25:05.
Those mornings will continud. It will feel warmer as we get through | :25:06. | :25:12.
the week, but it brings increasing the risks of thunderstorms. At the | :25:13. | :25:16.
moment, we have this low cloud and mist and fog arriving already. This | :25:17. | :25:24.
is going to head further sotthwards and westwards through this dvening | :25:25. | :25:27.
and overnight. For all of us, quite a cloudy night with the risk of some | :25:28. | :25:33.
fog patches as we get into the early hours of tomorrow morning. Ht means | :25:34. | :25:36.
it will remain relatively mhld for tonight. The thickness of the cloud | :25:37. | :25:41.
will allow some spots of rahn or drizzle. We will see temper`tures of | :25:42. | :25:48.
13 to 16 Celsius. There will be the risk of some rain wear that cloud is | :25:49. | :25:53.
that cloud is at its thickest. There could be some showers tomorrow | :25:54. | :25:58.
morning. It is looking quitd hopeful for most laces, it should clear | :25:59. | :26:01.
through the day and we should see some sunshine. `` for most places. | :26:02. | :26:10.
But of course, with this northwesterly breeze, we record | :26:11. | :26:15.
cooler temperatures on the coast. Those temperatures just perhaps in | :26:16. | :26:20.
the high teens. For some pl`ces it could remain cloudy for the | :26:21. | :26:24.
afternoon but it looks quitd hopeful that most places will see some | :26:25. | :26:30.
sunshine. Looking at the general pressure pattern, we have this area | :26:31. | :26:35.
of low pressure for about a week and it will start to head northwards | :26:36. | :26:39.
throughout the day and throtgh the week. By the end of the week we will | :26:40. | :26:44.
see an increasing risk of thunderstorms. For Thursday, we have | :26:45. | :26:50.
some sunshine around first thing. It looks like it will remain mostly dry | :26:51. | :26:55.
for the day, but by the end of the day there will be some risks of the | :26:56. | :27:00.
jury showers arriving. Parthcularly for Friday, the unsettled theme | :27:01. | :27:08.
continues. Those nights shotld remain relatively mild with the | :27:09. | :27:16.
temperatures in the mid teens. We need to correct that, he was not | :27:17. | :27:23.
riding his bike because he was not allowed to at that college. That's | :27:24. | :27:26.
all from us. Goodbye. | :27:27. | :27:32. |
