Hello and welcome to the first Look East of the new week. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Thousands suspected of online child abuse - | :00:07. | :00:09.
now the police look to prevention rather than arrest. | :00:10. | :00:15.
We are doing more than any other country in the world in this field, | :00:16. | :00:21.
but we cannot arrest our way out of it. | :00:22. | :00:21.
the issues voters in Kettering care about - we ask what | :00:22. | :00:25.
We meet the mother-turned-author helping | :00:26. | :00:28.
other new mums who's children are born with Down's syndrome. | :00:29. | :00:33.
And join us live from Northampton's trampoline academy as they celebrate | :00:34. | :00:37.
a special visit, Princess Anne. First tonight, there | :00:38. | :00:46.
are too many crimes to investigate them all - | :00:47. | :00:50.
that's the police's view of the shocking rise | :00:51. | :00:53.
in online child sex abuse. They suspect 2900 | :00:54. | :00:56.
people have accessed indecent images of children | :00:57. | :00:58.
in our region in For example, in Northamptonshire, | :00:59. | :01:03.
there was a 640% And in Bedfordshire, two to three | :01:04. | :01:09.
people are being arrested each week. Now a child protection charity has | :01:10. | :01:18.
teamed up with police forces to encourage sex offenders | :01:19. | :01:21.
themselves to seek help. The Cambridge professor found | :01:22. | :01:23.
with nearly 2000 indecent images Last week, Simon Jarvis given a 12 | :01:24. | :01:31.
month suspended sentence. Police forces in our region | :01:32. | :01:34.
following up thousands of crimes At the cyber unit in | :01:35. | :01:37.
Bedford, a seized phone is examined to see what | :01:38. | :01:41.
has been downloaded. Officers here say they | :01:42. | :01:43.
have to prioritise. We obviously can't investigate | :01:44. | :01:53.
every one of those. We have to identify those we can | :01:54. | :01:56.
make a meaningful outcome with and those we are able | :01:57. | :01:59.
to do something with. So, demand placed | :02:00. | :02:01.
on us is increasing. We are duty-bound | :02:02. | :02:04.
with our partners, to identify how we can respond | :02:05. | :02:09.
to those reported crimes. This is a hard drive that | :02:10. | :02:14.
has been confiscated. The boxes and shelves | :02:15. | :02:19.
here are full of them, along with computers, laptops, | :02:20. | :02:21.
all kinds of devices. Here in Bedfordshire, | :02:22. | :02:23.
2-3 people a week are arrested for indecent | :02:24. | :02:25.
images offences. In the back of my mind, | :02:26. | :02:31.
I always thought that... One day, I would get that | :02:32. | :02:34.
knock on the door... Real stories, words | :02:35. | :02:38.
voiced by actors. A film by a child protection | :02:39. | :02:47.

I might end up in a sexual Nikki Owen works with | :02:53. | :02:56.
the Bedfordshire cybercrime team. One man arrested telling her he's | :02:57. | :03:04.

an exercise in arrest, While we're doing more | :03:35. | :03:36.
than any other country in the world in this field, | :03:37. | :03:40.

Look East, Bedford. We heard there that the Lucy | :03:46. | :03:55.
Faithfull Foundation Donald Findlater from the charity | :03:56. | :03:57.
explained to me how viewing regular pornography online can act | :03:58. | :04:02.
as a gateway to illegal content. We've worked with over 2000 of those | :04:03. | :04:06.
individuals over the last Three quarters of those men migrated | :04:07. | :04:09.
from looking at sexual material of adults to sexual | :04:10. | :04:13.
material of teenagers So, there is certainly | :04:14. | :04:15.
a gateway affect and the boundary that, frankly, | :04:16. | :04:28.
on the Internet, is not marked. Would you like to see | :04:29. | :04:30.
Internet providers do Presumably they can trace | :04:31. | :04:32.
what website you are going onto. Those industry players are already | :04:33. | :04:37.

there is more than the Donald, what should | :05:05. | :05:07.
somebody do if they are concerned about their preferences | :05:08. | :05:14.
online or someone they know? Where we have operators dealing | :05:15. | :05:16.
with a confidential service. This isn't about getting caught, | :05:17. | :05:24.
this is about getting help to stop. Call the Stop It Now | :05:25. | :05:27.
helpline, 0808 1000 900. We have an anonymous | :05:28. | :05:31.

to help people who realise they've got a problem | :05:40. | :05:41.
in this area to actually start | :05:42. | :05:45.
to consider how they take control of their Internet lives so they don't | :05:46. | :05:48.
do any further harm. Don't wait till the knock | :05:49. | :05:50.

sure that behaviour stops An inquest has heard how | :06:00. | :06:03.
a vulnerable prisoner died 45-year-old Michael Cameron | :06:04. | :06:07.
was found unconscious in his cell last April, | :06:08. | :06:10.
and died two days later in hospital. There have been concerns | :06:11. | :06:14.
about the regime at the prison - which has had 18 self-inflicted | :06:15. | :06:16.
deaths in the past four years. Kate Bradbrook has | :06:17. | :06:19.
been at the inquest. Yes, the hearing was held here at | :06:20. | :06:24.
this church in Milton Keynes. The purpose to find out more about how | :06:25. | :06:29.
Michael Cameron came to die at Woodhill prison. We heard to the | :06:30. | :06:34.
35-year-old had a history of using cocaine and was also alcohol | :06:35. | :06:38.
dependence. He was not to be at risk of suicide. In April last year, he | :06:39. | :06:40.
was found hanged in his cell. Yet been arrested on suspicion of | :06:41. | :06:49.
attempted murder, Michael Cameron was meant to take drugs. The inquest | :06:50. | :06:54.
heard that while in police custody, he was aggressive. Punching his cell | :06:55. | :06:58.
walls and tying clothing around his neck. He is in constant watch. When | :06:59. | :07:02.
he was transferred to Woodhill prison, he was assessed as being | :07:03. | :07:06.
high risk and you can inject every 30 minutes. On the 26th of April, he | :07:07. | :07:12.
was checked at 5:40pm, his neck check with the sixth NPM but, at | :07:13. | :07:18.
6:16pm, he was found hanged in his cell. -- due at 6:10pm. It was asked | :07:19. | :07:30.
whether six minutes could make a difference, they said they were not | :07:31. | :07:34.
sure what it's good have. Michael Cameron was not given prescribed | :07:35. | :07:38.
detox meditation on two occasions because staff believed him to be | :07:39. | :07:40.
under the influence of drugs. We heard the drunk spice was being used | :07:41. | :07:46.
by inmates and sniffer dogs had been brought in. -- the drug. Michael | :07:47. | :07:57.
Cameron has denied having suicidal thoughts, it was said. His mother, | :07:58. | :08:01.
Maureen, on the left was actually's inquest which is expected to include | :08:02. | :08:03.
on Friday. -- was at two-day's. Police are still searching for a man | :08:04. | :08:11.
they believe was involved in a crash at the weekend which left | :08:12. | :08:14.
two people dead. The A605 near Peterborough | :08:15. | :08:16.
was closed for several hours after the accident in the early | :08:17. | :08:18.
hours of Sunday morning. Two people were killed and one | :08:19. | :08:20.
was seriously injured, but it's believed another man | :08:21. | :08:23.
was in the car. It's not known whether | :08:24. | :08:25.
he was the driver. A couple from Northampton | :08:26. | :08:29.
who were found guilty of 94 child sex and drug offences have today | :08:30. | :08:32.
jailed at Leicester Crown Court. Judge Dean described | :08:33. | :08:38.
Nicholas Taylor as a monster He was given a life sentence, | :08:39. | :08:40.
with a minimum sentence of 18 years and his wife Joan Taylor was given | :08:41. | :08:46.
an 18 year sentence. Firstly, we want to recognise the | :08:47. | :08:58.
bravery and courage of the victims who came forward and bloody | :08:59. | :09:02.
perpetrator to evidence. We need to make sure all children understand | :09:03. | :09:07.
child sexual abuse has no place in society and who they can send you if | :09:08. | :09:13.
they are experiencing now. The Taylors were adept at using guilt | :09:14. | :09:19.
and shame to prevent their victims coming fall. That is why it is | :09:20. | :09:23.
vital, if anyone is worried about a child, please come forward with | :09:24. | :09:24.
information. You're watching Look | :09:25. | :09:29.
East from the BBC. A royal visit for some | :09:30. | :09:31.
of our Olympic trampolinists. And we meet the mum | :09:32. | :09:36.
celebrating the achievements of children and adults | :09:37. | :09:38.
with Downs Syndrome, Now, with the local elections over, | :09:39. | :09:54.
campaigning for the general election has begun in earnest. | :09:55. | :10:11.
So with a month to go, what are the key issues in the place | :10:12. | :10:14.
described by one Conservative candidate as "the most average | :10:15. | :10:16.
We sent our political reporter Mousumi Bakshi to Kettering. | :10:17. | :10:20.
We are in the borough described most average talent in England. The | :10:21. | :10:23.
average worker and around ?500 per week and you are most likely to work | :10:24. | :10:26.
in the jail and health care industries. Welcome to Kettering. -- | :10:27. | :10:34.
retail. Choosing what you have for breakfast is easier than voting on a | :10:35. | :10:40.
party. But with little time to make a decision, what issues are brewing | :10:41. | :10:44.
providers? One of the things I will vote on is the NHS. I have concerns | :10:45. | :10:49.
for it, not from myself but my grandchildren in yet to come. It is | :10:50. | :10:54.
Brexit and you get the countries to this period. Without too much | :10:55. | :11:02.
disruption. 442-year-old Matt, lowering business rates is key to | :11:03. | :11:06.
the success of his children. What will get my support is more support | :11:07. | :11:10.
for small businesses. We've seen a lot of incremental increases in | :11:11. | :11:16.
wages, business rates, etc. Anything that bought small businesses on the | :11:17. | :11:21.
high Street. For these first time mothers, the elephant on the room is | :11:22. | :11:24.
the rising pressure on the NHS. Which party will present the next | :11:25. | :11:28.
generation. For a two-day's young generation, the 8th of June is a big | :11:29. | :11:34.
day. Brandon turned 18 and lives for the first time. The NHS is something | :11:35. | :11:39.
high up there that needs to be addressed. And it needs a a lot of | :11:40. | :11:44.
money spent on duty but the demand. And the pressure on top of it. I | :11:45. | :11:48.
feel like that is something that leaves a comment when voting. When | :11:49. | :11:52.
it comes to betting, burdens on business owners will influence | :11:53. | :11:59.
Mengistu. We need to bring in more staff more businesses into the | :12:00. | :12:05.
ground. Rates are to come down. Not the level they are, we do not get | :12:06. | :12:09.
the service they deserve for the rate we pay. If the means and ways | :12:10. | :12:15.
to lower taxes, all that stuff would persuade me to verify somebody if | :12:16. | :12:19.
they would do more for the working people. Two treble university fees | :12:20. | :12:28.
is not... We are not giving people the ability to further themselves, | :12:29. | :12:34.
especially at image or shouldn't. A rock of the multilateral between now | :12:35. | :12:38.
and the 8th of June but which party gains the best pictures of voters? | :12:39. | :12:42.
That determines the outcome of this election. -- pains a picture. | :12:43. | :12:50.
Well, I'm joined now by Dr Suzanne McDonald-Walker who's | :12:51. | :12:56.
We've just had local elections in many of our county councils. | :12:57. | :13:01.
Do people tend to vote the same way in a national ballot? | :13:02. | :13:03.
Given that these local elections just before, we will expect them to | :13:04. | :13:09.
vote the same way. Wide? Usually you'd think elections might be a way | :13:10. | :13:12.
to give the governing party of the day a kick but the Tories did very | :13:13. | :13:17.
well on Friday. Lewis Daynes that is true. You get a protest led if the | :13:18. | :13:21.
local elections are mid-term but because this is right by the | :13:22. | :13:25.
election there, we would expect people to vote the way they planned | :13:26. | :13:29.
to any general election. What kind of turn-out | :13:30. | :13:30.
might we expect in June and which parties benefit from high | :13:31. | :13:32.
or low turnouts? I'm not sure it'll be terribly high. | :13:33. | :13:41.
A lot of people are not happy about having a general election. We expect | :13:42. | :13:46.
it to benefit the way that because they have trouble turning out their | :13:47. | :13:51.
villages and it is also good for Labour and the Lib Dems because they | :13:52. | :13:55.
will move into a living areas where they will get more Labour voters and | :13:56. | :13:58.
more remain voters. Ukip support was decimated | :13:59. | :14:01.
in the local elections and we see the Tories moving | :14:02. | :14:03.
to the right, what are What about the moderate | :14:04. | :14:14.
conservatives? It seems to be a bit of a problem working out where they | :14:15. | :14:17.
will again because we have heard a loss about waiver having to be | :14:18. | :14:21.
careful of their Brexit avengers, but not a great deal about how the | :14:22. | :14:26.
Tories will deal with remain voters. If they far to the right, if they | :14:27. | :14:30.
are seen to be undermining things are like Parliamentary solvent free | :14:31. | :14:34.
and taking back control, that may affect the vote. -- sovereignty. And | :14:35. | :14:43.
who they will vote for. Will we get any shocks in the region? Cambridge | :14:44. | :14:49.
is obvious, Northampton North and south could be interesting. They are | :14:50. | :14:54.
quite close. If you debate is worried his wife Glenys, there is a | :14:55. | :14:57.
Ukip about and if you think about that going to the Conservatives, | :14:58. | :15:03.
there will not be any surprises. -- in places that age is close, there | :15:04. | :15:05.
is a Ukip vote. We in the media feel like it's | :15:06. | :15:07.
a very politcally charged time, another general election just two | :15:08. | :15:10.
years after the last, Brexit, Trump in America, | :15:11. | :15:12.
but are most people as bothered They are not, they want to get on | :15:13. | :15:22.
with life and they think politicians should do politics while they get on | :15:23. | :15:26.
their lives. There is not a great deal in that duty as but that may | :15:27. | :15:32.
change. Maybe not. Forum now, thank you. | :15:33. | :15:34.

a Cambridge mother whose son has Down's syndrome has produced a book | :16:02. | :16:06.
focusing on the positives of the condition - | :16:07. | :16:08.
to help other new mums in the same situation. | :16:09. | :16:13.
Tania Khan was upset that after her son's birth the emphasis | :16:14. | :16:16.
was on the difficulties he would face. | :16:17. | :16:17.
Now her book is being made available at maternity | :16:18. | :16:19.
For eight-year-old Kez and brother Mikhail, it is a busy | :16:20. | :16:26.
A much-loved youngest child, but when Kez was diagnosed | :16:27. | :16:29.
minutes after birth, it was devastating. | :16:30. | :16:31.
I think the shock lasted 2-3 months until I got to grips with | :16:32. | :16:34.
what Down's syndrome really meant and that | :16:35. | :16:36.
other people who had existed in this world | :16:37. | :16:45.
with Down's syndrome because I | :16:46. | :16:46.
You know, to carry on with as much gusto | :16:47. | :16:49.
as much optimism as I did with my previous two children. | :16:50. | :16:57.
And to help other parents in a similar position, | :16:58. | :16:59.
It's a way of explaining to siblings what Down's syndrome is and | :17:00. | :17:08.
highlighting to parents just what's possible. | :17:09. | :17:10.
It begins with the child, carries on with a description of a | :17:11. | :17:13.
teenager who has climbed mountains and carried on and ends with | :17:14. | :17:15.
achievers, six achievers who have achieved great things in their life. | :17:16. | :17:18.
First, a story about a knight and dragon. | :17:19. | :17:32.
After which, his teaching assistant will explain it to him so | :17:33. | :17:41.
The school here is supporting both Kez | :17:42. | :17:44.
What we want Kez to have is belief in himself that he can | :17:45. | :17:50.
achieve whatever he wants to achieve. | :17:51. | :17:51.
We don't want to put limits on what he can achieve. | :17:52. | :17:54.
We want him to have ambitions for the future. | :17:55. | :17:58.
Tania as set out these books to 100 NHS | :17:59. | :18:00.

It is about hope and it is really important to see what others | :18:08. | :18:15.
families experience, the joys, love, laughter that babies with | :18:16. | :18:17.
Down's syndrome can bring to your life. | :18:18. | :18:18.
It's about real families, telling exactly what it's | :18:19. | :18:23.
There has been international interest in this message of hope. | :18:24. | :18:28.
Now Tania is looking to translate into other | :18:29. | :18:30.
Time for a round up of the sport now but before we take a look | :18:31. | :18:43.
at our football teams' fortunes, there was a royal visit | :18:44. | :18:45.
for some aspiring Olympic gymnasts and trampolinists. | :18:46. | :18:47.
Let's go to our sports reporter James Burridge, | :18:48. | :18:50.
who's at the Benham Sports Centre in Northampton. | :18:51. | :18:52.
It had to be done. Welcome to the Belgian trampoline gymnastics | :18:53. | :19:06.
academy and if a cameraman in that way, you can see how busy it is on a | :19:07. | :19:10.
night like tonight. They are celebrating 40 years of this | :19:11. | :19:15.
wonderful facility and of course GB got their third silver medal at | :19:16. | :19:20.
trampolining last year. It was bound to Tracey Whitakers made the | :19:21. | :19:23.
Princess and was here to see. A royal visit for a sport used | :19:24. | :19:25.
the twisting and turning in the air Trampolining in Northampton | :19:26. | :19:29.
has taken off. 40 years ago, it was | :19:30. | :19:31.
battling for any time it could get | :19:32. | :19:33.
at a leisure centre. Now it produces Olympians, | :19:34. | :19:35.
boasts its own academy and 1000 members and | :19:36. | :19:38.
Tracy Whittaker Smith has been a driving | :19:39. | :19:49.
Every waking hour is thought about your passion | :19:50. | :19:55.
It was my goal to try and build a trampoline centre. | :19:56. | :20:04.
That has been achieved, so I'm really happy about that. | :20:05. | :20:07.
What do you think are the fundamentals of good | :20:08. | :20:09.
I think you've got to be brave because you want to be | :20:10. | :20:18.
jumping high, agile, lots of confidence, particularly to do | :20:19. | :20:20.
things like competing and show stuff like we've done today. | :20:21. | :20:22.
Last year, Tracy coached Great Britain's first Olympic | :20:23. | :20:31.
Today, though, came another nerve-racking moment | :20:32. | :20:34.
for five-year-old Sofia as she presented her Royal Highness with a | :20:35. | :20:36.
Mum, you must have had a tear in your eye. | :20:37. | :20:40.
She was a bit nervous going up at the start of it. | :20:41. | :20:44.
What was it about trampolining that you love, Sofia? | :20:45. | :20:51.
And no matter your age or ability, there is a role for | :20:52. | :21:07.
One of the really significant things is | :21:08. | :21:10.
that Lydia learned to tell the day of the week by knowing that | :21:11. | :21:13.
She could judge what other days were on | :21:14. | :21:16.
whether she had trampolining on those days or not. | :21:17. | :21:18.
For somebody who really struggled to learn the | :21:19. | :21:20.
calendar and the days of the week, that was really amazing. | :21:21. | :21:29.
This place and what goes on here is a great | :21:30. | :21:35.
30 years ago, Her Majesty the Queen mother opened this | :21:36. | :21:39.
Now her grand daughter has seen its trampolining transformation. | :21:40. | :21:45.
What a day at has-been. Back on terra firma now, leaving it all to | :21:46. | :21:51.
the experts. Football and they are at the end of the regular season but | :21:52. | :21:56.
religion town are now chasing the League 1 dream. -- Luton Town. The | :21:57. | :22:05.
region's only dream of something left to play for. Play-off tickets | :22:06. | :22:10.
on sale today for two semifinal matches against Blackpool. They | :22:11. | :22:15.
pretty confident. It's all down to when they come back hair. We should | :22:16. | :22:23.
be at Wembley. They are guaranteed to finish fourth but there are food | :22:24. | :22:27.
on the gas against Morecambe on Saturday. A third wind in a row set | :22:28. | :22:30.
them up nicely for the play-offs. The goals of flowing, two, three | :22:31. | :22:36.
more without top scorer Danny Helton in the side. Bring on Blackpool. It | :22:37. | :22:42.
is the best laid you get promoted if you can. There is nothing you can do | :22:43. | :22:46.
wrong. You can do anything about it until Sunday when they go up against | :22:47. | :22:50.
a good Blackpool side, then that is when the nerves starts digging in. | :22:51. | :22:54.
That is when the adrenaline pumps and that is the time. Now we will | :22:55. | :22:59.
just prepare as they normally do. To highly charged matches and a | :23:00. | :23:02.
possibility of Wembley. Remission now the only thing that matters. The | :23:03. | :23:09.
extra cash is a bonus. For semifinal and the receipts are pooled and | :23:10. | :23:13.
split among the gloves with the league taking a slice. It'll be | :23:14. | :23:17.
worth the money for us. If we get to the final, depending on the | :23:18. | :23:20.
attendance, the larger the attendance, the greater the amount | :23:21. | :23:25.
we will receive is. We have done something they know where we will | :23:26. | :23:30.
be. That is our aim. If they get to the seaside is, it is Exeter or | :23:31. | :23:35.
Carlisle in the final. Going back to the drawing board, back still in | :23:36. | :23:41.
League 2 next season. The Hatters how to leave their old lives behind. | :23:42. | :23:46.
Finally, in Rugby, Northampton Saints have to wait until Friday to | :23:47. | :23:51.
CSA are in play-off contention for the European Champions Cup, even | :23:52. | :23:55.
though they get harlequins on Saturday, not enough to ensure | :23:56. | :23:58.
direct qualification. We still have to find out if the French number | :23:59. | :24:03.
eight holiday and Franklin Gardens next season. They got say is not | :24:04. | :24:04.
going anywhere. -- the club say. And now Julie with a look at the | :24:05. | :24:11.
weather for the week. Hello, a miserable day with guys | :24:12. | :24:22.
like this for many others. This was 10:30am on the Slavic cows. A very | :24:23. | :24:29.
long-winded, 30 miles per gallon at times. This is the satellite picture | :24:30. | :24:35.
sharing all the best further to be. Consequently yeah, temperatures | :24:36. | :24:41.
under the cloud looking at about 10- Alan Celsius. Overnight tonight, we | :24:42. | :24:48.
keep that cloud seeding southwards. Some clear intervals and a little | :24:49. | :24:51.
bit of light rain and drizzle. For most of us, a dry night. Pembridge | :24:52. | :24:58.
is generally between 6-8dC but rarely get any breaks, we could | :24:59. | :25:03.
easily Celsius and a touch of Frost. -- temperatures. A frost free night | :25:04. | :25:08.
for most of us with winds easing to a north-easterly. Tomorrow, we still | :25:09. | :25:12.
have more cloud moving to but I think for most of us, it be a dry | :25:13. | :25:16.
day and we will get a bit of brightness sunshine appearing at | :25:17. | :25:20.
times all but not expecting huge amounts. Temperatures at 12-13dC | :25:21. | :25:25.
tomorrow. Higher than today and if we season brightness coming through, | :25:26. | :25:30.
they may get a couple of degrees higher still. We finished the day | :25:31. | :25:33.
again with a loss of talent level yet to be largely dried with a | :25:34. | :25:37.
little bit of brightness and sunshine if we really lucky. That is | :25:38. | :25:43.
Tuesday. When they have high pressure in charge of the day-to-day | :25:44. | :25:48.
when it comes to terms of sunshine. We should see some decent bells and | :25:49. | :25:52.
temperatures responding to around 12 Celsius for many of us got some | :25:53. | :25:56.
sports might reach 17 Celsius, 63 Fahrenheit. Then they get to the | :25:57. | :26:00.
latter part of the week, the whereabouts of talent, dependent on | :26:01. | :26:06.
how its bridges in from the south. At the moment, birthday is looking | :26:07. | :26:10.
largely fine and dry with some brightness and sunshine but cloud | :26:11. | :26:12.
eventually increasing from the south. The major EAPs bottle rain in | :26:13. | :26:18.
the extreme south but from most of us, a dry day. -- we may see a fuse | :26:19. | :26:24.
box. Cloudy skies and handbrake of rain. That could be with us for most | :26:25. | :26:29.
of the day. That is how the rest of the league stands for now, as for | :26:30. | :26:34.
next weekend, expecting some sunny spells and some bands of rain, Shell | :26:35. | :26:38.
is moving in rather erratically north and east lives. -- shallows. | :26:39. | :26:43.
We will have some mild night and they are likely to lose those | :26:44. | :26:49.
frosts. Good night. And we're back with more at 10:30pm. For now, good | :26:50. | :26:54.
evening. | :26:55. | :26:58. |
