"We will definitely gain seats in this region."

:00:00.:00:08.

Jeremy Corbyn says Labour is determined to take seats

:00:09.:00:10.

That's why I'm here today, that's why I've been

:00:11.:00:15.

that's why I'm doing a campaign visit to as many Conservative-held

:00:16.:00:21.

Stepping up safety patrols on the road that's seen two fatal

:00:22.:00:27.

Bedfordshire Police, leading the way in finding those

:00:28.:00:32.

And he has paid the price! Shattered dreams, how do two and missed out in

:00:33.:00:50.

the final minutes of their play-off against Blackpool.

:00:51.:01:00.

Jeremy Corbyn has told Look East that his party will "absolutely" win

:01:01.:01:05.

seats in this region in next month's general election.

:01:06.:01:08.

The Labour leader was in confident mood as he campaigned in Stevenage,

:01:09.:01:11.

Bedford and Peterborough, his fourth visit to the region

:01:12.:01:13.

Our political correspondent Andrew Sinclair reports.

:01:14.:01:20.

The Labour leader appears to have a spring in his step at the moment.

:01:21.:01:28.

The polls are very slowly starting to narrow and his candidates

:01:29.:01:31.

are telling him that on the ground the Labour vote is holding up.

:01:32.:01:37.

This afternoon he addressed supporters in Peterborough.

:01:38.:01:40.

The Conservatives' manifesto the focus of his attack.

:01:41.:01:46.

They've released a book called the manifesto which is extraordinary

:01:47.:01:49.

Labour believes that the Conservatives' plans to change

:01:50.:01:54.

the way social care is funded and limit the winter fuel

:01:55.:01:58.

allowance could be a game-changer in this election.

:01:59.:02:00.

One reason why in Bedford he spent time meeting

:02:01.:02:02.

Mr Corbyn is convinced that as Labour's policies get more

:02:03.:02:09.

publicity his party is winning over more people.

:02:10.:02:11.

We are certainly connecting a great deal.

:02:12.:02:15.

The numbers of people who have joined the party

:02:16.:02:17.

since the campaign started is huge, the numbers of people coming out

:02:18.:02:20.

to help us by knocking on doors, the number of people

:02:21.:02:23.

We are setting the framework for discussion about the direction

:02:24.:02:27.

in which this country goes, and I am very pleased about that.

:02:28.:02:30.

Do you believe Labour can win seats in this region as well as holding

:02:31.:02:33.

There is no doubting the support for Mr Corbyn in this room.

:02:34.:02:39.

But if Labour is going to do well in this election,

:02:40.:02:42.

both he and the party need to get his message outside.

:02:43.:02:46.

If Labour is going to make progress anywhere it should be

:02:47.:02:49.

The Conservatives hold it with a majority of less than 2,000.

:02:50.:02:57.

But they claim to be picking up new supporters in this election.

:02:58.:03:01.

A lot of people are saying, yes, I've usually been Labour

:03:02.:03:03.

But we've got to have this Brexit so we are getting more votes

:03:04.:03:12.

particularly from former Labour supporters.

:03:13.:03:13.

It will be difficult for me to vote Labour because they have ended up

:03:14.:03:26.

I think if it had been any other leader other than Jeremy Corbyn

:03:27.:03:31.

the Labour Party might win the general election.

:03:32.:03:33.

I think people are voting against him rather

:03:34.:03:35.

I like what he brings, it is different, not the same

:03:36.:03:41.

Labour may be feeling more confident tonight

:03:42.:03:48.

There are four candidates standing in Peterborough.

:03:49.:03:57.

Their names and parties should be on the screen.

:03:58.:03:59.

So, have Labour's fortunes turned around?

:04:00.:04:13.

There has been a small spike in support, they are now in the 30%

:04:14.:04:21.

bracket but they are still 16% points behind the Conservatives and

:04:22.:04:24.

an added problem of labour in places like Peterborough and Cambridge in

:04:25.:04:28.

that UKIP are not standing which will favour the Tories. Labour have

:04:29.:04:34.

another two problems, the first is Brexit and on the doorsteps they are

:04:35.:04:39.

meeting voters who are saying they normally vote Labour but because

:04:40.:04:42.

they want Brexit to be handled properly they will vote

:04:43.:04:44.

Conservative. The second problem is Jeremy Corbyn,

:04:45.:04:50.

like a certain brand of yeast extract, you love or hate him. I met

:04:51.:04:52.

some Labour supporters today who said, I would

:04:53.:05:06.

like to vote Labour but I am concerned about the idea of Jeremy

:05:07.:05:07.

Corbyn. He went to Stevenage, Peterborough,

:05:08.:05:10.

Bedford but not Cambridge, a Labour held seat. Their candidate has the

:05:11.:05:13.

fight of his life at the moment. He says he intends to visit Cambridge.

:05:14.:05:17.

I am hearing they are more confident of holding onto the seat and talking

:05:18.:05:22.

about moving more resources into hock their campaign there.

:05:23.:05:23.

Thank you very much. Police are increasing high

:05:24.:05:27.

visibility patrols and speed traps on a stretch of the A605

:05:28.:05:29.

where there have been three serious collisions and three deaths

:05:30.:05:32.

in the past ten days. Two young men lost their lives

:05:33.:05:35.

in one crash and an elderly woman Her family say something must be

:05:36.:05:39.

done to improve safety on the road. More patrols on the A605

:05:40.:05:43.

but after the deaths of three people Ahead of us we have got a brief

:05:44.:05:50.

section of dual carriageway on our side of the road to allow

:05:51.:05:58.

vehicles to overtake Officers have been targeting this

:05:59.:06:00.

road after two accidents Jo Booth who was 82 and from nearby

:06:01.:06:05.

Nassington lost her life at this Leaving her family struggling

:06:06.:06:14.

to cope with their loss. Devastating, just very sad

:06:15.:06:21.

and we will all really miss her Everybody that knew

:06:22.:06:24.

her thought the same. I have spoken to loads of people

:06:25.:06:31.

who live in the area and they are very upset at losing Jo

:06:32.:06:35.

and just desperate to get It comes days after two other people

:06:36.:06:38.

were killed in a separate accident Every time there is a fatal

:06:39.:06:48.

accident, highways officers and police come down to the scene

:06:49.:06:52.

to see if there is anything about the road layout

:06:53.:06:57.

which could have contributed and whether anything can be done

:06:58.:06:59.

to make the road safer. That hasn't happened yet

:07:00.:07:01.

but they say it will happen One of the pieces of work

:07:02.:07:04.

we are continually doing is we analyse the statistics we get

:07:05.:07:12.

and we look to see if there are And if that is the case then

:07:13.:07:17.

we will always tried to put something in place to reduce

:07:18.:07:23.

the number of crashes that happen. Villagers in Elton

:07:24.:07:26.

have been campaigning The villagers' thoughts

:07:27.:07:28.

are that this road's junction There have been so many

:07:29.:07:33.

near-misses and this has been The villagers' view is the junction

:07:34.:07:39.

needs to be improved and safety The village says it has been

:07:40.:07:43.

promised traffic calming at the junction but says that is not

:07:44.:07:48.

enough to stop people Emma Baugh, BBC Look

with dementia go missing every Their memory loss means

:07:59.:08:02.

they can often be in danger For their families and police,

:08:03.:08:05.

finding them can be difficult. Now, the county's police force has

:08:06.:08:08.

become the first in the country to employ a dementia support worker

:08:09.:08:11.

based at headquarters. The aim, to respond more effectively

:08:12.:08:13.

if someone disappears. She was diagnosed with dementia

:08:14.:08:16.

seven years ago and now Before that she was looked

:08:17.:08:34.

after by her daughter Sue. But the big worry was that she might

:08:35.:08:38.

get lost and have to You just don't want to think

:08:39.:08:41.

about it because, you know, And as much as you can be with them,

:08:42.:08:48.

you can't be with them 24 hours But it's my worst fear

:08:49.:08:53.

because we live in Biggleswade near the busy London Road

:08:54.:08:58.

and I always used to think if she got down there

:08:59.:09:00.

whatever time of day it was, When you were younger,

:09:01.:09:03.

Marge, did you have pets? That is where Catherine comes in,

:09:04.:09:16.

she's a dementia support worker They have teamed up

:09:17.:09:19.

with Bedfordshire Police to create If someone with dementia

:09:20.:09:22.

has gone missing, I'll To build up a profile

:09:23.:09:30.

of their background. To find out about places or people

:09:31.:09:33.

that have been important And the intention is that if they go

:09:34.:09:36.

missing again the police officers would have a much more comprehensive

:09:37.:09:40.

picture of where that person might go and ultimately hopefully get

:09:41.:09:43.

them found much quicker. This is the first police force

:09:44.:09:53.

in the country to form a partnership like this but the ultimate aim

:09:54.:09:56.

is prevention rather than cure. It means we have that access now

:09:57.:09:59.

to a specialist dementia support worker that can work with families

:10:00.:10:02.

at risk of somebody living And really give us that reassurance

:10:03.:10:05.

everything is being done to prevent them going missing

:10:06.:10:08.

in the first place. In the event of that

:10:09.:10:10.

person being reported in to 999 to the police,

:10:11.:10:12.

we have that information Living with dementia can

:10:13.:10:16.

be a difficult and at It is hoped this new approach

:10:17.:10:30.

will offer practical help to the families of those

most at risk. Kate Bradbrook, BBC

:11:19.:11:21.

told Look East today he was hoping to win votes in our region

:11:22.:11:32.

on June 8th Despite this being one of the most Brexit-supporting

:11:33.:11:41.

parts of the country. and they are promising

:11:42.:11:44.

a second Refendum on the terms They think 16 and 17-year-olds

:11:45.:11:49.

should be allowed to vote for two new nuclear power stations

:11:50.:11:56.

in Suffolk and Essex. They would rely on renewable energy

:11:57.:12:03.

like wind and solar. We will hear from

:12:04.:12:06.

co-leader Jonathan Bartley, The Greens know they have a mountain

:12:07.:12:19.

to climb even in their home counties where they lost four seats to Labour

:12:20.:12:24.

at County Hall. In Suffolk, support was strong in Bury St Edmunds.

green was the new cool prompting David Cameron to use a sledge to

:12:42.:12:49.

highlight climate change. They won the seat of deceit on city councils.

:12:50.:12:54.

Since then local support has faded but the party says their relevance

:12:55.:12:59.

has not. They will oppose nuclear power plants at Bradl in Essex and

:13:00.:13:05.

Sizewell in Suffolk. They are against expansion at Stansted

:13:06.:13:08.

Airport and will promote environmentally friendly transport.

:13:09.:13:13.

They would also support local wind farms if people back then. They say

:13:14.:13:19.

that the system of first past the post is rigged against them. They

:13:20.:13:24.

are currently polling around 3% and it isn't being translated into

:13:25.:13:28.

Parliamentary seats, they say. We need to change the system to favour

:13:29.:13:37.

smaller parties. 5% of people voted Ukip or green last year and it

:13:38.:13:41.

gained them to seats. It makes sense. Leadership is a collegiate

:13:42.:13:49.

affair. They have two leaders. He is a keen drummer, gaining here with

:13:50.:13:57.

his band. The party will fight fire out of six seats in the east and if

:13:58.:14:02.

they win one it will be a huge coup. -- five out of six.

:14:03.:14:05.

Of course, the Green Party has two leaders

:14:06.:14:07.

When I spoke to Mr Bartley earlier this afternoon,

:14:08.:14:11.

I asked him about their disappointing results

:14:12.:14:12.

When they lost all their seats in Norfolk.

:14:13.:14:17.

We were squeezed. A lot of people were thinking about the general

:14:18.:14:24.

election and at general elections people think in different terms.

:14:25.:14:29.

There's a lot of coverage for the big parties. It's hard for us. We've

:14:30.:14:34.

been given a lower billing by broadcasters in this election. It

:14:35.:14:37.

was inevitable that we were to be struggling. If those people were

:14:38.:14:44.

taking about the general election in the local elections, they will be

:14:45.:14:47.

thinking about it in the general election, where they? We have got

:14:48.:14:54.

our place in the leaders debate, plays on question Time, a lot more

:14:55.:14:58.

media coverage. We've had to fight very hard to get our voice heard but

:14:59.:15:03.

in the latter part of the general election campaign there will be much

:15:04.:15:07.

more of a Green presents so people will see what we are standing for

:15:08.:15:12.

and we'll hear what a green vote means for them particularly in

:15:13.:15:17.

places like Norwich. You've had good representation on Norwich City

:15:18.:15:23.

Council and yet parts of it are still among the most polluted parts

:15:24.:15:28.

of the country. Nothing has been achieved. We haven't controlled the

:15:29.:15:33.

council so we are not able to put forward our policies but we are able

:15:34.:15:37.

to shout very loudly when the policies of labour are not

:15:38.:15:40.

delivering for local people. Labour seem to be stealing a lot of your

:15:41.:15:46.

policies to shout loudly against you. Take care pollution. Labour

:15:47.:15:53.

aren't making the right choices. You can't save you will tackle air

:15:54.:15:57.

pollution and expand roads and airports. You have to make the right

:15:58.:16:03.

choices around air pollution. We are very principled. We don't

:16:04.:16:09.

compromise. This is the second most Brexit friendly area in the whole

:16:10.:16:12.

country and you are saying that you will look again at Brexit and the

:16:13.:16:17.

deal we get. That is not going to play well with a lot of people here.

:16:18.:16:24.

People in my family voted Leave. People in our party voted Leave. It

:16:25.:16:31.

is the biggest decision that will affect our kids futures for decades

:16:32.:16:36.

to come. Theresa May has conceded after much campaigning that there

:16:37.:16:39.

should be a vote in parliament on the final deal. If we just that the

:16:40.:16:47.

MPs, how much more should we be trusting the British people to make

:16:48.:16:50.

that decision. They are going to have to pay the consequences of the

:16:51.:16:53.

deal. They should have a vote on whether to accept it. It is their

:16:54.:16:55.

lives at stake. Our coverage of the Election

:16:56.:16:57.

continues with Sunday We shall be asking

:16:58.:16:59.

what small business is looking That's Sunday Politics,

:17:00.:17:03.

eleven o'clock, BBC One. The Luton Town manager Nathan Jones

:17:04.:17:09.

says he's proud of his players, despite the heartbreak

:17:10.:17:12.

of losing to Blackpool in the League Two play-off

:17:13.:17:15.

semi-final last night. The tie was heading into extra time

:17:16.:17:17.

but the Hatters conceded an equaliser with virtually

:17:18.:17:21.

the last kick of the game, Our Sports Editor

:17:22.:17:23.

Jonathan Park reports. COMMENTATOR: The goalkeeper stays at

:17:24.:17:42.

home and he's paid the price! No time for Luton to recover. Perhaps

:17:43.:17:43.

as heartbroken in the 94th minute of as heartbroken in the 94th minute of

:17:44.:17:48.

their 48 league match. No wonder they hit the deck. We keep doing

:17:49.:17:52.

this. I supported them 50 years. this. I supported them 50 years.

:17:53.:17:57.

This is what they do to others. They never make it easy. Terribly

:17:58.:18:01.

disappointing to lose in that fashion at the end. Gutted, aren't

:18:02.:18:12.

we? I don't know. Get on with it. Rewind an hour and a half, as soggy

:18:13.:18:17.

Kenilworth Road was full of hope. They had their work cut out when

:18:18.:18:22.

Blackpool took the lead and a 2-goal advantage in the tie. The Hatters

:18:23.:18:27.

rolled up their sleeves and began to dominate. Alan Shearer's shot was

:18:28.:18:32.

going wide but Kevin Mela's leg had other ideas. Scott Cuthbert glanced

:18:33.:18:43.

Nathan Jones's side in front. The tie all square. Then a controversial

:18:44.:18:47.

third for the Hatters. Danny Houghton tumbling theatrically in

:18:48.:18:53.

the box but sending Luton 5-4 in the tie and on their way to Wembley. By

:18:54.:18:59.

hook or by crook, it was looking good until Hatters goalkeeper Stuart

:19:00.:19:03.

Moore entered stage right but his timing was out. Blackpool pulled one

:19:04.:19:13.

back. 3-2. 5-5 on aggregate. And then that corner, that header, that

:19:14.:19:21.

Miss kick and more misery. An element of naivete in certain

:19:22.:19:26.

things. To concede three in all three semifinals, really is

:19:27.:19:30.

disappointing. I'm proud of how we go about our work, proud of the

:19:31.:19:36.

group and the club. A miserable record in the play-offs continues.

:19:37.:19:40.

They've never been promoted by the play-offs. They start next season

:19:41.:19:47.

back in League 2. Such a contrast. Wembley for them. Which, for them.

:19:48.:19:51.

There's a big night of boxing ahead for two brothers from Norfolk.

:19:52.:19:54.

Tomorrow the Walsh twins Liam and Ryan from Cromer

:19:55.:19:57.

are fighting on the same bill at London's Copper Box Arena.

:19:58.:20:00.

And is fighting for the IBF Super Featherweight World title.

:20:01.:20:05.

To the Walsh brothers official fan club, an early breakfast

:20:06.:20:22.

before making the journey from Cromer to London.

:20:23.:20:29.

The excitement building ahead of fight night.

:20:30.:20:31.

They've earned their right to be on that level,

:20:32.:20:36.

Liam especially on that world level. It's been really nice to see.

:20:37.:20:39.

Something special, something we've been waiting for seven years,

:20:40.:20:42.

7-8 years we've been waiting for this.

:20:43.:20:43.

You wouldn't know it but the brothers are preparing

:20:44.:20:47.

They are relaxed as ever the hard work behind-the-scenes is done.

:20:48.:20:51.

For Liam, it's his first crack at a world title.

:20:52.:20:53.

Every drop of sweat, every drop of love, every hour

:20:54.:20:56.

we spent in the gym, every little bit of

:20:57.:20:58.

His opponent, the current world champion failed to make the weight.

:20:59.:21:12.

Two ounces too much, despite going to all lengths.

:21:13.:21:15.

You won't get many boxing experts, if any who will tip me

:21:16.:21:21.

The only man who really needs to believe they can

:21:22.:21:28.

On the same bill, Ryan makes the third offence

:21:29.:21:33.

Certainly the biggest in our professional careers.

:21:34.:21:37.

The biggest in our lives because, in boxing, to be successful,

:21:38.:21:40.

Back in Cromer, an anxious time for all the family.

:21:41.:21:49.

Although, the newest members are keeping cool.

:21:50.:21:54.

It's horrible having to watch them fight and it's going to be great

:21:55.:21:57.

and I know he's going to bring back that belt.

:21:58.:21:59.

And, obviously, it's hard to watch but, I'm not nervous.

:22:00.:22:04.

The Walsh fans are forecasting a mighty storm in the ring.

:22:05.:22:16.

Must be very difficult watching. I can't believe it comes down to two

:22:17.:22:25.

ounces. They just take their shirts off. That's why he was holding the

:22:26.:22:30.

thing up. To the great wine drinking growing

:22:31.:22:31.

regions of the world Marlborough, Bordeaux and Napa Valley,

:22:32.:22:34.

we can now add The Norfolk Broads. A family run vineyard

:22:35.:22:36.

has just beaten off competition To be the first in England

:22:37.:22:39.

to win one of The Bacchus 2015 from

:22:40.:22:42.

Winbirri Vineyards in Surlingham. It has been selected the best white

:22:43.:22:53.

wine from a single grape variety. It's only eight years old but

:22:54.:23:07.

already this vineyard is a world beater. That's according to 200 top

:23:08.:23:15.

wine experts at the Decanter world wine awards. They were looking at

:23:16.:23:23.

wines under ?15 per bottle. It's the pinnacle of what we can do with our

:23:24.:23:28.

still white wines. It's the biggest competition in the world. To win it

:23:29.:23:35.

for our Bacchus wine is amazing. The Bacchus grape is an English hedgerow

:23:36.:23:43.

in a glass. Notes of goo is free and elderflower. Quintessentially

:23:44.:23:48.

English. The grape was developed in Germany but growers here realised it

:23:49.:23:53.

was perfect for English conditions. Nature plays a part in the success

:23:54.:23:59.

here. It is typically warm, dry, and sunny. The soil drains well. But

:24:00.:24:04.

there is a lot of nurture in producing wine here. No more than 12

:24:05.:24:12.

kilos in a tray, not crushing the grapes. Once you do, you start

:24:13.:24:20.

splitting the Skins. You can buy Bacchus 2015 in supermarkets online

:24:21.:24:24.

but closer to home, they are proud to sell it locally just down the

:24:25.:24:30.

road at cold hall. Very nice and very tasty. Very sharp and clean. If

:24:31.:24:35.

it's been voted the best in the world, I can well believe it. The

:24:36.:24:41.

flavour is delicate but it's got a good flavour. We are great believers

:24:42.:24:47.

in supporting local projects. To have vineyard just half a mile away

:24:48.:24:52.

is fantastic. They modestly called the award a pat on the back. They

:24:53.:24:57.

hope it will encourage vineyards across the country. To win that for

:24:58.:25:02.

England has put in Gush wines on the map. We've proven with the sparkling

:25:03.:25:09.

wine in the past that we can beat champagne. Now, with the still wine

:25:10.:25:13.

we can prove that we can beat the European still wines. They are

:25:14.:25:18.

planning to plant more vines. The problem with Bacchus now is making

:25:19.:25:25.

an offer of it. -- making enough of it. It is lovely wine. I ask you to

:25:26.:25:34.

describe it earlier and you didn't come up with English hedgerow in a

:25:35.:25:40.

glass. I wish I had. A great description.

:25:41.:25:47.

Today are much fresher feel. A shock to the system. We've had some rain

:25:48.:25:56.

as well. Not everywhere. Where we haven't had wet stuff, cloudy skies.

:25:57.:26:00.

Nevertheless, impressive weather pictures. The radar sequence shows

:26:01.:26:07.

the shower is well scattered in the East. This area produced some heavy

:26:08.:26:12.

downpours and quite persistent rain for a time. That's now breaking up

:26:13.:26:17.

and overnight there will be quite a lot of dry weather. Showers could

:26:18.:26:21.

happen just about anywhere. For some others, it could turn quite chilly.

:26:22.:26:33.

Some parts as low as 5-7dC. We might have a fewer overnight showers

:26:34.:26:35.

lingering for a time but a lot of dry weather to start the day before

:26:36.:26:41.

more showers start to feed in from the south-west. Temperatures getting

:26:42.:26:43.

a bit higher than today. Up to about a bit higher than today. Up to about

:26:44.:26:51.

17 Celsius at best. During the afternoon, showers becoming more

:26:52.:26:55.

widespread. Longer spells of rain for some of ours. We can't rule out

:26:56.:27:02.

the odd heavy downpour. On Sunday, high-pressure starting to build.

:27:03.:27:08.

Sunday looking a fine and dry day. If we are going to see a shower,

:27:09.:27:14.

probably in the Northwest. It will probably stay dry and in the

:27:15.:27:19.

sunshine temperatures up to about 18 degrees. That's the trend heading

:27:20.:27:25.

into Monday. On Monday, highs of 20 Celsius. Quite a lot of cloud around

:27:26.:27:30.

on Monday but it should stay dry. Perhaps some lengthy spells of

:27:31.:27:34.

sunshine on Tuesday as high pressure builds.

:27:35.:27:39.

That's it. From all others. Have a lovely weekend. Goodbye.

:27:40.:27:57.

It's cold. Tastes a bit like avocado.
