The annual rail fare increase has taken effect today.

Nationally fares will increase by 2.3%.

The increase in the East is slightly lower at 1.8%.

But it means some season ticket holders will be paying

Here at Cambridge station it was the day before many returned to work but

usually this is one of the busiest commuter routes into London. Today

it was announced that Greater Anglia and great North run the two main

rail operators in this region are increasing fares by 1.8%. Below the

national increase, but passengers I spoke to are unimpressed. It is

really bad because the services this year have been pretty horrendous.

Not surprised. It is what it is. I think they should go down again

because it costs me ?9 per day to get to work and that is more than I

get in power. Next week I'm going to by air, return fare less than ?20,

compared that with my going into these time to London with my

partner, ?71 return. Something is not right. What rail operator stress

is right however is that fares are influenced by government policy.

Rail delivery group which represents train operators and Network Rail

says in those -- ignores in some places passengers have always got

the service they pay for and that this much, 97p out of every pound

that passengers pay goes back into running and improving services.

Great Northern added it is bringing in more drivers to reduce

cancellations and more new trains onto the rich. But the announcement

of today's fare increase, a New Year message many could have done

without. Plans to build ten thousand homes

on the Essex-Hertfordshire border as part of the Government's garden

towns programme have Ministers confirmed today

that they will support the development on green belt land

at Harlow and Gilston. It is one of three projects

nationally which will receive ?1.4 million in funding

to help make them happen. Smaller garden villages are proposed

in Deenethorpe near Corby in Northamptonshire,

and Dunton Hills near Police in Ipswich are concerned

for the welfare of a teenage girl who's been missing

of disappointing results. But his team secured

a much needed win, beating Derby County

3-nil at Carrow Road. It is January at Caro Road, there is

a sale on at the club shop, the fans are all wearing woolly hat in the

weather and the manager badly needs a win. With just two victories in

the last 12 league games the Norwich fans are getting restless. Can he

survive another defeat? This depends on the ambitions the clubhouse. F he

doesn't win today he will have to think about going. I would like to

see him stay, I would like to see him prove that he is a good manager,

but I fear that the odds are increasingly stacked against them.

As it turned out the fans did not have to worry, the midfielder Phil

and was in form and a hat-trick from Olivero secured Norwich and the

manager a much needed win. Norwich struggled in the opening period

before Nelson Oliveira scored in the 15th minute and from then on Norwich

dominated. They had the post and then Olivero hit the bar. Olivero

went on to complete his hat-trick. He was brilliant. He opened up the

middle, it gives options. So Norwich go to ninth in the championship, but

the pressure on Alex Neill eases for now.

Ipswich slipped down the table as they lost 2-1 away to QPR.

while the other League One teams in our region all drew.

League Two Cambridge beat struggling Notts County 4-nil

and Colchester took their winning run to four games with a 2-nil win

A lot of clear sky tonight, widespread frosts, so it will turn

very white and I think with temperatures in some spots following

lower than these values, down to around -3 -4 surface water, we howl

patchy ice and patterns of frozen fog as well. I pressure in charge,
