Good evening. stay with us on BBC One,

:00:08.:00:09.

Hamerton Park Zoo in Cambridgeshire has confirmed that a female

:00:10.:00:12.

zookeeper was killed in what's been described as a "freak

:00:13.:00:16.

Police were called to the zoo, near Huntingdon, this

:00:17.:00:22.

morning to reports of a "very serious incident".

:00:23.:00:25.

The incident is not believed to be suspicious.

:00:26.:00:29.

As one of the zoo's tigers paces along its enclosure fence,

:00:30.:00:33.

investigators were briefed on the events surrounding

:00:34.:00:36.

what unfolded in this part of the park just hours earlier.

:00:37.:00:38.

The Magpas air ambulance landed at Hamerton Zoo just

:00:39.:00:41.

East of England Ambulance paramedics were also there,

:00:42.:00:47.

along with Cambridgeshire Police and forensic teams.

:00:48.:00:51.

As the park was evacuated, eyewitnesses spoke of an attack

:00:52.:00:54.

By early evening, two staff members, too upset to speak, handed

:00:55.:01:00.

a statement to the waiting media in which they spoke of the incident

:01:01.:01:03.

as a freak accident and expressed their sympathies for the victim's

:01:04.:01:06.

Police said that a tiger had entered enclosure with a keeper and that,

:01:07.:01:16.

sadly, the female zookeeper had died at the scene.

:01:17.:01:18.

Hamerton is home to a number of big cats.

:01:19.:01:20.

These pictures, shot for BBC Radio Cambridge's Facebook

:01:21.:01:23.

page, show a tiger in a pool that had just been built at Hamerton Zoo.

:01:24.:01:27.

It has kept the animals since 2001, when it acquired its first pair

:01:28.:01:31.

It has also worked with the Malaysian government to bring

:01:32.:01:39.

over a critically endangered Malaysian tiger.

:01:40.:01:41.

As staff this evening tended the attraction's other animals,

:01:42.:01:44.

the zoo said at no point members of the public at any risk.

:01:45.:01:57.

But, it will be closed tomorrow as investigators try to establish

:01:58.:01:59.

how the femle keeper was fatally attacked.

:02:00.:02:01.

Police in Essex have launched a murder inquiry

:02:02.:02:03.

after a man was found in Harlow with fatal head injuries.

:02:04.:02:06.

Minutes before midnight, a 39-year-old man found

:02:07.:02:10.

inside a parked Volvo here on the Milwards

:02:11.:02:14.

The alarm was raised and police arrived on the scene.

:02:15.:02:20.

The victim, who hasn't yet been named, was rushed

:02:21.:02:23.

to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he died early this morning.

:02:24.:02:28.

About one o'clock this morning, the police turned up, ambulances,

:02:29.:02:32.

They cordoned off the entire area, so that bit down there,

:02:33.:02:37.

was all taped off, the bottom of Milwards was all

:02:38.:02:40.

That's when I realised there was something going on.

:02:41.:02:43.

Detectives say they are unclear on the events that

:02:44.:02:45.

If anybody heard anything shortly before midnight

:02:46.:02:50.

and the period just before, then please contact Essex Police

:02:51.:02:54.

Three men, who were aged 24, 35 and 40, have all been arrested

:02:55.:02:59.

The estranged mother of a man who made headlines around the world

:03:00.:03:08.

of the Manchester bombings has been reunited with her son.

:03:09.:03:13.

Chris Parker, from Norwich, was begging at Manchester Arena

:03:14.:03:16.

He looked after a young girl and cradled a woman

:03:17.:03:20.

and was reunited with him at the weekend.

:03:21.:03:27.

It's definitely an explosion because there's nuts

:03:28.:03:29.

This is how a homeless man came back into the life of his mother 200

:03:30.:03:34.

Danny Blum, Chris Parker rank of debt.

:03:35.:03:50.

all I heard was bang, and I mean a big bang,

:03:51.:03:55.

Next thing you know, the

:03:56.:03:56.

whole place was filled with smoke and people crying and everything.

:03:57.:03:59.

I've seen people run out that way and I've

:04:00.:04:01.

gone back in to try and help

:04:02.:04:03.

His mother, Jessica, has childhood photos, but none of a son

:04:04.:04:05.

Their contact has been sporadic, but this

:04:06.:04:09.

week then she met him for the first time in five years.

:04:10.:04:12.

It was heart-wrenching, absolutely heart-wrenching to know that he

:04:13.:04:15.

He just told me, very matter-of-factly

:04:16.:04:20.

He just said, "Mum I've just done with anybody else

:04:21.:04:25.

And I went, "I don't think so, Chris.

:04:26.:04:28.

"I think you did something really wonderful and you need to

:04:29.:04:33.

Many have been moved by Chris Parker's actions.

:04:34.:04:36.

More than ?50,000 has been raised through an

:04:37.:04:39.

online campaign to help the man who helped others.

:04:40.:04:42.

Jessica has told her son she doesn't want a penny, but

:04:43.:04:46.

does want him to get good advice and help how to spend it.

:04:47.:04:50.

Today, it's just beginning to hit home a little bit

:04:51.:04:53.

as to what I can do from here for him and to process that

:04:54.:04:58.

You know, and he's going to be all right.

:04:59.:05:04.

He's going to be all right, I know he is.

:05:05.:05:06.

For now, it's small steps taken carefully

:05:07.:05:09.

She is planning to visit him next weekend.

:05:10.:05:13.

Something good coming from something terrible.

:05:14.:05:22.

Thousands of poppies were dropped over the American war

:05:23.:05:24.

cemetery at Madingley, near Cambridge for the first

:05:25.:05:26.

It was the finale of the annual Memorial Day service,

:05:27.:05:31.

held to commemorate the thousands of US service personnel based here

:05:32.:05:35.

It's a ceremony which, in its solemnity and symbolism,

:05:36.:05:45.

never fails to stir emotions and, today, extra special in this

:05:46.:05:48.

the 75th anniversary year of the "Friendly Invasion".

:05:49.:05:50.

A tribute to those who lost their lives.

:05:51.:05:56.

A time for proud and painful memories among the audience

:05:57.:06:01.

of veterans, families and military personnel.

:06:02.:06:04.

These were not spectators to life, they were warriors that climbed

:06:05.:06:07.

into the arena and chose to live a life of value, a life of service.

:06:08.:06:11.

They were willing to fight and die for freedom,

:06:12.:06:15.

for the values both our nations share and for each other.

:06:16.:06:17.

I do want to acknowledge the difficult week our British

:06:18.:06:20.

allies have had and, although not nearly sufficient,

:06:21.:06:23.

please know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers.

:06:24.:06:29.

More than 8,000 men and women are commemorated here

:06:30.:06:34.

and for this year's ceremony, a new poignant touch.

:06:35.:06:38.

Beside the names on the wall of the missing, photographs

:06:39.:06:41.

reflecting the human cost, the tender years.

:06:42.:06:44.

Well, behind every picture there's a story.

:06:45.:06:47.

Take Ben Barnes, he was from South Dakota and flew from the Martlesham

:06:48.:06:50.

His remains were only found last year in Germany and this signifies

:06:51.:06:56.

More than 100 floral tributes were laid.

:06:57.:07:02.

Also this year, for the first time since the 1960s,

:07:03.:07:05.

a petal drop provided a canopy of colour above the graves.

:07:06.:07:11.

The theme running through today's event was "forever young",

:07:12.:07:13.

a reminder of the toll of war and the lives which were cut

:07:14.:07:17.

With ten days to go until the general electio,

:07:18.:07:31.

With ten days to go until the general election,

:07:32.:07:33.

our Gets My Vote series has been finding out what issues

:07:34.:07:36.

Today, it's the turn of students at East Bergholt

:07:37.:07:39.

If I could vote, I would vote for a party that is for defence.

:07:40.:07:43.

I think knowing that we have a safe and secure NHS for the future.

:07:44.:07:47.

I think that we need more support for education.

:07:48.:07:51.

Educational resources for schools, because I think that would solve

:07:52.:07:56.

some of the problems moving on in life.

:07:57.:07:58.

What would get me voting is no more tuition fees.

:07:59.:08:01.

I have Michelle Obama, because I think she's a strong

:08:02.:08:14.

female voice and she would just get things done.

:08:15.:08:16.

I would have Batman, because he could, we wouldn't need

:08:17.:08:19.

Honestly, I wouldn't wish the job of Prime Minister

:08:20.:08:24.

Coming up next, the weather with Julie Reinger.

:08:25.:08:30.

Alex thanks very much. I'm going to start with the radar sequence

:08:31.:08:39.

showing the showers over the last few hours. The green indicates the

:08:40.:08:43.

heaviest downpours, but they occurred to the North Sea. We could

:08:44.:08:48.

see a few charity acting through tonight, but the rest of us dry

:08:49.:08:52.

night but with some rainy intervals at times. Rather warm, with 13-15dC

:08:53.:08:57.

temperatures. Like south-westerly winds. Tomorrow were going to get a

:08:58.:09:03.

cold front pushing in from the north-west, but we start a dry,

:09:04.:09:07.

quite a lot of cloud around, but hopefully it will thin and break.

:09:08.:09:13.

When the sunshine we could get a gig

:09:14.:09:14.
