Hello and welcome to Look East with Susie and me.

:00:00.:00:00.

The headlines tonight, from Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.

:00:00.:00:08.

Another shocking case of fly-tipping in Essex.

:00:09.:00:11.

This one destroys thousands of honey bees.

:00:12.:00:18.

Up to the third of what we took last year from honey came from this site.

:00:19.:00:23.

So, absolutely devastated. The schoolboy vandals

:00:24.:00:26.

who destroyed a memorial set up to honour a young girl

:00:27.:00:29.

who was killed on a bouncy castle. The thought that somebody could come

:00:30.:00:39.

to our school and deliberately and wilfully damage a memorial to a

:00:40.:00:44.

young girl who died in such tragic circumstances was just horrifying.

:00:45.:00:47.

as they just miss out on a Wembley showdown

:00:48.:00:51.

And the world's top wine experts toast a cheeky little number

:00:52.:00:55.

Basildon Council in Essex is facing another huge clean-up operation

:00:56.:01:13.

after fly-tippers dumped tons of rubbish on meadows.

:01:14.:01:18.

The piles of industrial waste included asbestos.

:01:19.:01:20.

Beehives were damaged as the rubbish was dumped

:01:21.:01:23.

and it's believed a quarter of a million bees were killed.

:01:24.:01:26.

We will hear from Basildon Council after this, from Gareth George.

:01:27.:01:30.

A mountain of rubbish dumped illegally, a mix of rubble,

:01:31.:01:34.

Have a look at just how much waste has been dumped here.

:01:35.:01:41.

This is one of several huge piles dotted across this site.

:01:42.:01:45.

Everything valuable in this rubbish, everything that can be sold has been

:01:46.:01:51.

removed and what has been dumped here is any items that

:01:52.:01:55.

This is industrial fly-tipping on a huge scale.

:01:56.:02:03.

This council owned land is used by a beekeeper.

:02:04.:02:11.

The fly-tippers' avalanche knocked over two of the hives,

:02:12.:02:13.

hundreds of thousands of bees have died.

:02:14.:02:15.

Hugely frustrated. I was angry.

:02:16.:02:17.

In terms of the business impact, huge.

:02:18.:02:20.

You know, as I say, up to a third of what we took last year from honey

:02:21.:02:24.

This is the second time in the last seven months fly-tippers have

:02:25.:02:41.

targeted this patch of land close to Wat Tyler

:02:42.:02:46.

targeted this patch of land close to Wat Tyler Country Park in Basildon.

:02:47.:02:49.

Last month, waste was dumped near a church near Lane and in Essex.

:02:50.:02:53.

An organisation that supports rule communities says

:02:54.:02:55.

it is seeing more and more cases of industrial fly-tipping.

:02:56.:02:57.

We've seen quite a lot of this over the last few months in Essex.

:02:58.:03:01.

Which is extremely disappointing for us.

:03:02.:03:02.

Unfortunately, what we are seen at the moment is the dumping

:03:03.:03:05.

of industrial waste on an industrial scale.

:03:06.:03:08.

So, loads which blight on the landscape, damaging

:03:09.:03:10.

the clean-up here will cost around ?20,000.

:03:11.:03:19.

As attempts to trace whoever was responsible go on,

:03:20.:03:23.

everything possible has been done to try and keep the land secure

:03:24.:03:30.

in case the fly-tippers strike again.

:03:31.:03:32.

Phil Turner is the leader of Basildon Council.

:03:33.:03:34.

I asked him what can be done to stop the fly-tippers.

:03:35.:03:37.

But we also require people to be vigilant and make note of who comes

:03:38.:03:44.

It doesn't mean to say that people are living close by.

:03:45.:03:55.

If you see anything suspicious, we want to know about that.

:03:56.:03:57.

Obviously, in this case, it's been very distressing

:03:58.:03:59.

for the beekeeper but, also, we're talking about asbestos,

:04:00.:04:01.

human waste, there is a danger element here, as well.

:04:02.:04:04.

Yes. It's absolutely outrageous.

:04:05.:04:13.

Any fly-tipping causes anxiety but, on such a commercial scale,

:04:14.:04:16.

when it's affecting people like beekeepers, then you have

:04:17.:04:20.

to stop and ask yourself why is it that people insist on doing this.

:04:21.:04:23.

And it really comes down to the fact that there are quite a lot of taxes

:04:24.:04:27.

And we have seen an increase in fly-tipping, especially in Essex.

:04:28.:04:33.

I drive through the countryside every day, every week and you'll see

:04:34.:04:44.

Not on this scale but you'll see what looks like garden waste,

:04:45.:04:51.

what looks like kitchens being cleared out,

:04:52.:04:55.

It isn't just coming from one area or another.

:04:56.:05:00.

Obviously, the council is going to try and do its own bit

:05:01.:05:03.

of enforcement but are you confident that the police are able to catch

:05:04.:05:06.

We work very closely with the police and we have a great relationship.

:05:07.:05:12.

And we need extra surveillance now that deals with the perpetrators

:05:13.:05:17.

I feel that, again, the law needs strengthening.

:05:18.:05:25.

If we find that people are doing such large

:05:26.:05:28.

scale dumping we need to, perhaps, look at the proceeds

:05:29.:05:32.

of crime laws that actually sees their vehicles and,

:05:33.:05:39.

We've heard that this is going to cost ?20,000 to clear up.

:05:40.:05:44.

Is it taxpayers that are going to foot the bill?

:05:45.:05:46.

A head teacher has released CCTV pictures

:05:47.:06:00.

of vandals wrecking a garden in Norwich,

:06:01.:06:02.

which was built in memory of a pupil who died.

:06:03.:06:05.

Sara Bush who is the head of Valley Primary Academy,

:06:06.:06:08.

described the damage as "mindless vandalism".

:06:09.:06:14.

The garden was created in memory of Summer Grant

:06:15.:06:17.

who died last year in an accident on a bouncy castle.

:06:18.:06:23.

For young teenagers vandalising the reception class play area at Valley

:06:24.:06:31.

primary Academy. They throw bricks and daubed graffiti and foul

:06:32.:06:35.

language on the walls. If that isn't bad enough, they then set about

:06:36.:06:41.

destroying Summer Grant's Memorial garden. They throw plans on the

:06:42.:06:48.

ground and one boy chucks a tyre at the trellis. I felt completely sick,

:06:49.:06:52.

if I am honest. The thought that somebody could come to our school

:06:53.:06:57.

and deliberately and wilfully damage a memorial to a young girl who died

:06:58.:07:01.

in tragic circumstances was just horrifying. Seven-year-old Summer

:07:02.:07:06.

Grant died last year when the bouncy castle she was playing on blue away

:07:07.:07:13.

in the wind. She loved flowers and the garden was created in her

:07:14.:07:17.

memory. It has now been repaired but many parents at the school are

:07:18.:07:23.

angry. I think it is horrible. I can't we understand how you can do

:07:24.:07:28.

something like this. We all knew her. She was a beautiful little

:07:29.:07:34.

girl. I have spoken to Summer Grant's mother and she is very

:07:35.:07:41.

upset. She describes the attack as utterly pointless. Local people and

:07:42.:07:44.

businesses have donated plants and flowers to help get the manorial

:07:45.:07:48.

garden back to its best. People have been amazing. Out of this horrible

:07:49.:07:54.

thing something really lovely has come because the community has

:07:55.:07:58.

rallied around. A parent yesterday went to work and asked what they

:07:59.:08:02.

could do. They said what they could try and get from other places and

:08:03.:08:08.

got an amazing collection of plants and compost. Norfolk police are

:08:09.:08:16.

investigating and the CCTV will provide big clues. Summer Grant's

:08:17.:08:19.

family are still mourning her death and didn't deserve this.

:08:20.:08:27.

It's been revealed today that Essex Police are investigating

:08:28.:08:29.

a number of deaths at a mental health unit in Chelmsford.

:08:30.:08:32.

The inquiries centre on the Linden Centre.

:08:33.:08:34.

The confirmation came on the day an inquest jury decided

:08:35.:08:40.

there were serious failings in the case of a 30 year-old man

:08:41.:08:43.

For Richard Wade's family it has been a two-year ordeal. They now

:08:44.:08:55.

know the state which should have protected him failed him. In May

:08:56.:09:01.

2015, Richard, an accountant began to suffer delusions, he became

:09:02.:09:05.

anxious and talked of throwing himself off a bridge. By his own

:09:06.:09:09.

volition he was admitted to the Linden Centre for treatment. Both he

:09:10.:09:14.

and we thought it to be a place of safety. It proved to be not so.

:09:15.:09:21.

Barely 12 hours after admission, he sustained injuries from which he

:09:22.:09:25.

never recovered. The inquest heard Richard Wade was found on the floor

:09:26.:09:29.

of a shower room with a dressing gown cord around his neck. We heard

:09:30.:09:37.

evidence from assistant consultant psychiatrist Doctor Michael Isaacs

:09:38.:09:41.

who said he should not have had the chord with him. He had been

:09:42.:09:45.

incorrectly considered a low suicide risk. While Richard Wade had taken

:09:46.:09:52.

his own life, Joe was found he had been failed by health professionals.

:09:53.:10:00.

Family members of other people were also harmed at the centre. They

:10:01.:10:05.

welcomed the news that the number of deaths is now under investigation.

:10:06.:10:12.

They are looking at 20 deaths at the centre. Something isn't right. It's

:10:13.:10:16.

got to be stopped and needs investigation. The police have been

:10:17.:10:21.

asked to investigate my son's Beth and I know Melanie's as well. We've

:10:22.:10:27.

been up against brick walls. -- my son's death. For Richard and his

:10:28.:10:34.

family it's too late but the trust that runs the centre says the

:10:35.:10:40.

history of incidents there is of great concern and will support any

:10:41.:10:42.

police investigation. A drug dealer who stabbed a Norwich

:10:43.:10:45.

man many times and left him to die. Has been told he must serve

:10:46.:10:49.

at least 20 years in prison. Steve Stannard who was 37

:10:50.:10:52.

was killed outside his home The flat was being used as

:10:53.:10:55.

a drugs den by a gang from London. You're watching Look East

:10:56.:11:09.

with Susie and me. Stay with us for Julie's

:11:10.:11:11.

weekend weather forecast. We are looking ahead

:11:12.:11:14.

to the weekend's big boxing fixture and one of the world's

:11:15.:11:17.

top awards for white wine The co-leader of the Green Party

:11:18.:11:20.

told Look East today he was hoping to win votes in our region

:11:21.:11:31.

on June 8th Despite this being one of the most Brexit-supporting

:11:32.:11:40.

parts of the country. and they are promising

:11:41.:11:43.

a second Refendum on the terms They think 16 and 17-year-olds

:11:44.:11:48.

should be allowed to vote for two new nuclear power stations

:11:49.:11:55.

in Suffolk and Essex. They would rely on renewable energy

:11:56.:12:02.

like wind and solar. We will hear from

:12:03.:12:05.

co-leader Jonathan Bartley, The Greens know they have a mountain

:12:06.:12:18.

to climb even in their home counties where they lost four seats to Labour

:12:19.:12:23.

at County Hall. In Suffolk, support was strong in Bury St Edmunds.

:12:24.:12:30.

Listening to what people have been saying about Jewish and fees.

:12:31.:12:34.

Worrying about the cost of a university education. A decade ago,

:12:35.:12:41.

green was the new cool prompting David Cameron to use a sledge to

:12:42.:12:48.

highlight climate change. They won the seat of deceit on city councils.

:12:49.:12:54.

Since then local support has faded but the party says their relevance

:12:55.:12:58.

has not. They will oppose nuclear power plants at Bradl in Essex and

:12:59.:13:04.

Sizewell in Suffolk. They are against expansion at Stansted

:13:05.:13:07.

Airport and will promote environmentally friendly transport.

:13:08.:13:12.

They would also support local wind farms if people back then. They say

:13:13.:13:18.

that the system of first past the post is rigged against them. They

:13:19.:13:24.

are currently polling around 3% and it isn't being translated into

:13:25.:13:28.

Parliamentary seats, they say. We need to change the system to favour

:13:29.:13:36.

smaller parties. 5% of people voted Ukip or green last year and it

:13:37.:13:40.

gained them to seats. It makes sense. Leadership is a collegiate

:13:41.:13:47.

affair. They have two leaders. He is a keen drummer, gaining here with

:13:48.:13:55.

his band. The party will fight fire out of six seats in the east and if

:13:56.:14:01.

they win one it will be a huge coup. -- five out of six.

:14:02.:14:04.

Of course, the Green Party has two leaders

:14:05.:14:06.

When I spoke to Mr Bartley earlier this afternoon,

:14:07.:14:09.

I asked him about their disappointing results

:14:10.:14:11.

When they lost all their seats in Norfolk.

:14:12.:14:17.

We were squeezed. A lot of people were thinking about the general

:14:18.:14:23.

election and at general elections people think in different terms.

:14:24.:14:28.

There's a lot of coverage for the big parties. It's hard for us. We've

:14:29.:14:33.

been given a lower billing by broadcasters in this election. It

:14:34.:14:37.

was inevitable that we were to be struggling. If those people were

:14:38.:14:43.

taking about the general election in the local elections, they will be

:14:44.:14:46.

thinking about it in the general election, where they? We have got

:14:47.:14:54.

our place in the leaders debate, plays on question Time, a lot more

:14:55.:14:58.

media coverage. We've had to fight very hard to get our voice heard but

:14:59.:15:02.

in the latter part of the general election campaign there will be much

:15:03.:15:07.

more of a Green presents so people will see what we are standing for

:15:08.:15:11.

and we'll hear what a green vote means for them particularly in

:15:12.:15:16.

places like Norwich. You've had good representation on Norwich City

:15:17.:15:22.

Council and yet parts of it are still among the most polluted parts

:15:23.:15:27.

of the country. Nothing has been achieved. We haven't controlled the

:15:28.:15:32.

council so we are not able to put forward our policies but we are able

:15:33.:15:36.

to shout very loudly when the policies of labour are not

:15:37.:15:39.

delivering for local people. Labour seem to be stealing a lot of your

:15:40.:15:45.

policies to shout loudly against you. Take care pollution. Labour

:15:46.:15:53.

aren't making the right choices. You can't save you will tackle air

:15:54.:15:57.

pollution and expand roads and airports. You have to make the right

:15:58.:16:03.

choices around air pollution. We are very principled. We don't

:16:04.:16:08.

compromise. This is the second most Brexit friendly area in the whole

:16:09.:16:12.

country and you are saying that you will look again at Brexit and the

:16:13.:16:16.

deal we get. That is not going to play well with a lot of people here.

:16:17.:16:24.

People in my family voted Leave. People in our party voted Leave. It

:16:25.:16:30.

is the biggest decision that will affect our kids futures for decades

:16:31.:16:35.

to come. Theresa May has conceded after much campaigning that there

:16:36.:16:38.

should be a vote in parliament on the final deal. If we just that the

:16:39.:16:45.

MPs, how much more should we be trusting the British people to make

:16:46.:16:49.

that decision. They are going to have to pay the consequences of the

:16:50.:16:53.

deal. They should have a vote on whether to accept it. It is their

:16:54.:16:54.

lives at stake. Our coverage of the Election

:16:55.:16:56.

continues with Sunday We shall be asking

:16:57.:16:59.

what small business is looking That's Sunday Politics,

:17:00.:17:02.

eleven o'clock, BBC One. The Luton Town manager Nathan Jones

:17:03.:17:08.

says he's proud of his players, despite the heartbreak

:17:09.:17:11.

of losing to Blackpool in the League Two play-off

:17:12.:17:14.

semi-final last night. The tie was heading into extra time

:17:15.:17:16.

but the Hatters conceded an equaliser with virtually

:17:17.:17:20.

the last kick of the game, Our Sports Editor

:17:21.:17:22.

Jonathan Park reports. COMMENTATOR: The goalkeeper stays at

:17:23.:17:41.

home and he's paid the price! No time for Luton to recover. Perhaps

:17:42.:17:45.

as heartbroken in the 94th minute of their 48 league match. No wonder

:17:46.:17:51.

they hit the deck. We keep doing this. I supported them 50 years.

:17:52.:17:56.

This is what they do to others. They never make it easy. Terribly

:17:57.:18:01.

disappointing to lose in that fashion at the end. Gutted, aren't

:18:02.:18:12.

we? I don't know. Get on with it. Rewind an hour and a half, as soggy

:18:13.:18:16.

Kenilworth Road was full of hope. They had their work cut out when

:18:17.:18:21.

Blackpool took the lead and a 2-goal advantage in the tie. The Hatters

:18:22.:18:26.

rolled up their sleeves and began to dominate. Alan Shearer's shot was

:18:27.:18:31.

going wide but Kevin Mela's leg had other ideas. Scott Cuthbert glanced

:18:32.:18:42.

Nathan Jones's side in front. The tie all square. Then a controversial

:18:43.:18:47.

third for the Hatters. Danny Houghton tumbling theatrically in

:18:48.:18:52.

the box but sending Luton 5-4 in the tie and on their way to Wembley. By

:18:53.:18:58.

hook or by crook, it was looking good until Hatters goalkeeper Stuart

:18:59.:19:02.

Moore entered stage right but his timing was out. Blackpool pulled one

:19:03.:19:13.

back. 3-2. 5-5 on aggregate. And then that corner, that header, that

:19:14.:19:20.

Miss kick and more misery. An element of naivete in certain

:19:21.:19:25.

things. To concede three in all three semifinals, really is

:19:26.:19:29.

disappointing. I'm proud of how we go about our work, proud of the

:19:30.:19:35.

group and the club. A miserable record in the play-offs continues.

:19:36.:19:39.

They've never been promoted by the play-offs. They start next season

:19:40.:19:46.

back in League 2. Such a contrast. Wembley for them. Which, for them.

:19:47.:19:49.

There's a big night of boxing ahead for two brothers from Norfolk.

:19:50.:19:53.

Tomorrow the Walsh twins Liam and Ryan from Cromer

:19:54.:19:56.

are fighting on the same bill at London's Copper Box Arena.

:19:57.:19:59.

And is fighting for the IBF Super Featherweight World title.

:20:00.:20:05.

To the Walsh brothers official fan club, an early breakfast

:20:06.:20:21.

before making the journey from Cromer to London.

:20:22.:20:28.

The excitement building ahead of fight night.

:20:29.:20:30.

They've earned their right to be on that level,

:20:31.:20:36.

Liam especially on that world level. It's been really nice to see.

:20:37.:20:38.

Something special, something we've been waiting for seven years,

:20:39.:20:41.

7-8 years we've been waiting for this.

:20:42.:20:42.

You wouldn't know it but the brothers are preparing

:20:43.:20:46.

They are relaxed as ever the hard work behind-the-scenes is done.

:20:47.:20:50.

For Liam, it's his first crack at a world title.

:20:51.:20:52.

Every drop of sweat, every drop of love, every hour

:20:53.:20:55.

we spent in the gym, every little bit of

:20:56.:20:57.

His opponent, the current world champion failed to make the weight.

:20:58.:21:12.

Two ounces too much, despite going to all lengths.

:21:13.:21:14.

You won't get many boxing experts, if any who will tip me

:21:15.:21:20.

The only man who really needs to believe they can

:21:21.:21:27.

On the same bill, Ryan makes the third offence

:21:28.:21:32.

Certainly the biggest in our professional careers.

:21:33.:21:36.

The biggest in our lives because, in boxing, to be successful,

:21:37.:21:39.

Back in Cromer, an anxious time for all the family.

:21:40.:21:48.

Although, the newest members are keeping cool.

:21:49.:21:53.

It's horrible having to watch them fight and it's going to be great

:21:54.:21:56.

and I know he's going to bring back that belt.

:21:57.:21:59.

And, obviously, it's hard to watch but, I'm not nervous.

:22:00.:22:03.

The Walsh fans are forecasting a mighty storm in the ring.

:22:04.:22:15.

Must be very difficult watching. I can't believe it comes down to two

:22:16.:22:24.

ounces. They just take their shirts off. That's why he was holding the

:22:25.:22:29.

thing up. To the great wine drinking growing

:22:30.:22:30.

regions of the world Marlborough, Bordeaux and Napa Valley,

:22:31.:22:33.

we can now add The Norfolk Broads. A family run vineyard

:22:34.:22:35.

has just beaten off competition To be the first in England

:22:36.:22:38.

to win one of The Bacchus 2015 from

:22:39.:22:41.

Winbirri Vineyards in Surlingham. It has been selected the best white

:22:42.:22:52.

wine from a single grape variety. It's only eight years old but

:22:53.:23:05.

already this vineyard is a world beater. That's according to 200 top

:23:06.:23:14.

wine experts at the Decanter world wine awards. They were looking at

:23:15.:23:22.

wines under ?15 per bottle. It's the pinnacle of what we can do with our

:23:23.:23:27.

still white wines. It's the biggest competition in the world. To win it

:23:28.:23:34.

for our Bacchus wine is amazing. The Bacchus grape is an English hedgerow

:23:35.:23:42.

in a glass. Notes of goo is free and elderflower. Quintessentially

:23:43.:23:48.

English. The grape was developed in Germany but growers here realised it

:23:49.:23:52.

was perfect for English conditions. Nature plays a part in the success

:23:53.:23:58.

here. It is typically warm, dry, and sunny. The soil drains well. But

:23:59.:24:03.

there is a lot of nurture in producing wine here. No more than 12

:24:04.:24:11.

kilos in a tray, not crushing the grapes. Once you do, you start

:24:12.:24:19.

splitting the Skins. You can buy Bacchus 2015 in supermarkets online

:24:20.:24:23.

but closer to home, they are proud to sell it locally just down the

:24:24.:24:30.

road at cold hall. Very nice and very tasty. Very sharp and clean. If

:24:31.:24:35.

it's been voted the best in the world, I can well believe it. The

:24:36.:24:40.

flavour is delicate but it's got a good flavour. We are great believers

:24:41.:24:46.

in supporting local projects. To have vineyard just half a mile away

:24:47.:24:51.

is fantastic. They modestly called the award a pat on the back. They

:24:52.:24:56.

hope it will encourage vineyards across the country. To win that for

:24:57.:25:02.

England has put in Gush wines on the map. We've proven with the sparkling

:25:03.:25:08.

wine in the past that we can beat champagne. Now, with the still wine

:25:09.:25:12.

we can prove that we can beat the European still wines. They are

:25:13.:25:17.

planning to plant more vines. The problem with Bacchus now is making

:25:18.:25:24.

an offer of it. -- making enough of it. It is lovely wine. I ask you to

:25:25.:25:33.

describe it earlier and you didn't come up with English hedgerow in a

:25:34.:25:39.

glass. I wish I had. A great description.

:25:40.:25:46.

Today are much fresher feel. A shock to the system. We've had some rain

:25:47.:25:55.

as well. Not everywhere. Where we haven't had wet stuff, cloudy skies.

:25:56.:25:59.

Nevertheless, impressive weather pictures. The radar sequence shows

:26:00.:26:06.

the shower is well scattered in the East. This area produced some heavy

:26:07.:26:12.

downpours and quite persistent rain for a time. That's now breaking up

:26:13.:26:16.

and overnight there will be quite a lot of dry weather. Showers could

:26:17.:26:20.

happen just about anywhere. For some others, it could turn quite chilly.

:26:21.:26:32.

Some parts as low as 5-7dC. We might have a fewer overnight showers

:26:33.:26:35.

lingering for a time but a lot of dry weather to start the day before

:26:36.:26:40.

more showers start to feed in from the south-west. Temperatures getting

:26:41.:26:46.

a bit higher than today. Up to about 17 Celsius at best. During the

:26:47.:26:52.

afternoon, showers becoming more widespread. Longer spells of rain

:26:53.:27:00.

for some of ours. We can't rule out the odd heavy downpour. On Sunday,

:27:01.:27:04.

high-pressure starting to build. Sunday looking a fine and dry day.

:27:05.:27:09.

If we are going to see a shower, probably in the Northwest. It will

:27:10.:27:15.

probably stay dry and in the sunshine temperatures up to about 18

:27:16.:27:20.

degrees. That's the trend heading into Monday. On Monday, highs of 20

:27:21.:27:26.

Celsius. Quite a lot of cloud around on Monday but it should stay dry.

:27:27.:27:32.

Perhaps some lengthy spells of sunshine on Tuesday as high pressure

:27:33.:27:33.

builds. That's it. From all others. Have a

:27:34.:27:38.

lovely weekend. Goodbye. It's cold.

:27:39.:27:56.

Tastes a bit like avocado. And soon we're all

:27:57.:28:01.

going to be eating them. Four crickets have the same amount

:28:02.:28:04.

of calcium as a glass of milk, and a dung beetle,

:28:05.:28:08.

twice the protein of beef. dazzling designs

:28:09.:28:36.
