A special mass has been held in Braintree this evening

after a mother and daughter die in a house fire.

Placed in special measures because of serious problems.

This private mental health hospital has only been open a few months.

And we report on the big increase in the number of rough sleepers

More than a hundred people have attended a special mass in Braintree

tonight after a mother and daughter died in a house fire.

It is still unclear as to how this fire started. Specialist teams have

been going in and out of this property just behind me all day

trying to establish what happened here. Emergency services were called

been taken far too soon. The fire began at around 10:30pm yesterday.

Neighbours say it tore through the house at speed. Some tried to help

but were beaten back by flames. We thought, oh, my God, the house is on

fire? My husband ran downstairs to try to get a hammer to try to break

down the window. By the time we got there, it has literally come

through. The whole roof was alight. It really went quickly. It kept

stopping in starting up again. A fundraising page has been setup to

help the family. Already thousands of pounds have been raised. Tonight

at the Catholic Church in Braintree, days before Christmas, the time to

remember the mother and daughter who lost lives in the fire.

arrived to lay flowers and light candles. Police teams are expected

to stay here at the scene throughout the night and are working very

closely with the Fire Service. It is a joint investigation as they try to

establish exactly what caused this fatal fire.
