Good evening, I'm Katherine Nash. | :00:07. | :00:08.
First tonight, the sacking of Norwich City manager Alex Neil. | :00:09. | :00:12.
A few hours ago, the club announced that it had terminated his contract. | :00:13. | :00:15.
It follows a disappointing run of results which has left | :00:16. | :00:18.
the Canaries well short of the promotion places | :00:19. | :00:21.
The news comes on the eve of their home game against Blackburn. | :00:22. | :00:27.
This from our sports reporter Tom Williams. | :00:28. | :00:30.
Alex Neil guided Norwich to Premier League promotion | :00:31. | :00:38.
Their return to the championships been inconsistent | :00:39. | :00:42.
with the Canaries falling off the play off pace | :00:43. | :00:46.
Is it the right decision to sack him? | :00:47. | :00:50.
It's felt, to me, for a while like this is when, | :00:51. | :00:57.
They had a run over Christmas where they lost eight out | :00:58. | :01:01.
of ten league games, they dropped from top of the table | :01:02. | :01:03.
to 12th and since then, Alex Neil has had the | :01:04. | :01:06.
majority of the supporters, if not completely against him, | :01:07. | :01:08.
In a statement, Norwich said, the board has taken | :01:09. | :01:12.
the tough but unanimous decision, believing it's in the best interest | :01:13. | :01:15.
of the club for a new manager to be in place through a crucial | :01:16. | :01:19.
Alex Neil made an immense and immediate impact at Norwich, | :01:20. | :01:25.
these scenes at Wembley after victory in the play-off final | :01:26. | :01:29.
But in recent months, fans who once adored him | :01:30. | :01:34.
had become increasingly agitated and the players' | :01:35. | :01:36.
We seem to go 1-0 down, 2-0 down, 3-0 down | :01:37. | :01:42.
It's like, you know, we almost quit, we don't play for each other, | :01:43. | :01:46.
Following Saturday's 5-0 humiliation at Sheffield Wednesday, | :01:47. | :01:49.
Well, the fact is, we just haven't played well enough. | :01:50. | :01:55.
So I don't really know what you want me to say. | :01:56. | :01:58.
The fact is, we went to Brighton and we got beat | :01:59. | :02:00.
We've now went to Sheffield Wednesday and we've got beat and | :02:01. | :02:04.
What you're basically saying is these players aren't | :02:05. | :02:07.
The opportunity is there to get somebody in, to give them a good | :02:08. | :02:12.
chance to look at the squad and makes some big decisions over which | :02:13. | :02:15.
players are going to go and which players are going | :02:16. | :02:18.
I think this is the start, this is the first of many changes | :02:19. | :02:22.
we're going to see at Norwich City Football Club over the next | :02:23. | :02:25.
First-team coach Alan Irvine is in caretaker charge, the Canaries | :02:26. | :02:29.
now without a chief executive, with scant hope of promotion. | :02:30. | :02:31.
Managerless, some would say rudderless. | :02:32. | :02:32.
The board will hope Norwich can now get back on course. | :02:33. | :02:35.
Earlier I spoke to Darren Eadie, a former Norwich City player. | :02:36. | :02:39.
I asked him for his reaction to the news that the club | :02:40. | :02:42.
Well, I guess I'm a little surprised. | :02:43. | :02:48.
I'm a little surprised it didn't happen after the poor run | :02:49. | :02:51.
But I am probably a little bit more surprised now, | :02:52. | :02:56.
that they've sacked him now considering the backing | :02:57. | :02:58.
they were only giving him a week or so ago. | :02:59. | :03:01.
I kind of felt if they were going to do it, it was going to | :03:02. | :03:05.
happen before and all the noises coming out of Carrow Road were, | :03:06. | :03:08.
"He's our man, he's the one to take us forward for the next so many | :03:09. | :03:11.
years and he'll do it his way and he needs to change the players, | :03:12. | :03:15.
have a bit of a clear out," and that was kind of the focus, | :03:16. | :03:18.
it seemed it was all the noises that were coming out | :03:19. | :03:21.
But in a press conference earlier, Alex Neil said that he was | :03:22. | :03:26.
So do you think this is the right decision to make? | :03:27. | :03:30.
Well, I don't expect him to say anything else. | :03:31. | :03:32.
I don't think he's ever going to come out | :03:33. | :03:34.
and say, "Actually, I think I'm struggling. | :03:35. | :03:36.
They gave him the opportunity, things | :03:37. | :03:39.
started to turn around again but the poor run | :03:40. | :03:41.
of form in recent games, I think, they had no other choice. | :03:42. | :03:44.
So who do you think will take on this job now? | :03:45. | :03:48.
I think they've missed out on a few in recent months. | :03:49. | :03:52.
Somebody who probably does stand out a little bit to me, | :03:53. | :03:55.
only because I know him, is Gary Rowett. | :03:56. | :03:57.
I played with him at Leicester, a very kind of true pro, | :03:58. | :03:59.
traditional pro, does things right, prepares right, | :04:00. | :04:01.
He's a defender and also defenders tend to | :04:02. | :04:04.
build from the back when they're building their teams and that's | :04:05. | :04:07.
an area where Norwich have struggled for probably | :04:08. | :04:09.
two or three, four, maybe five years now. | :04:10. | :04:10.
So certainly someone like that would be given | :04:11. | :04:12.
an opportunity and I'm sure he would love | :04:13. | :04:14.
Controversial plans have been announced today to install | :04:15. | :04:24.
traffic lights at one of the region's busiest junctions. | :04:25. | :04:26.
The Fiveways roundabout on the A11 is a main road joining up | :04:27. | :04:29.
Local people insist it will help them cross | :04:30. | :04:35.
But there are concerns it will actually slow traffic down. | :04:36. | :04:41.
This from our political correspondent Andrew Sinclair. | :04:42. | :04:44.
Some 30,000 vehicles a day use the Barton Mills roundabout. | :04:45. | :04:48.
While hold-ups on the main A11 are short lived, for those trying | :04:49. | :04:51.
to cross from nearby towns like Mildenhall, it can take a long time | :04:52. | :04:54.
There have been quite a few accidents on that | :04:55. | :05:02.
roundabout, like with people not going in and out | :05:03. | :05:04.
Today, the Transport Secretary announced | :05:05. | :05:08.
funding for a number of congestion relief schemes | :05:09. | :05:13.
and he's going to spend ?400,000 putting traffic lights at Fiveways. | :05:14. | :05:17.
It is a junction that sees congestion too often. | :05:18. | :05:20.
This will smooth the flow of traffic through it, | :05:21. | :05:23.
it will help the overall flow of traffic up the A11. | :05:24. | :05:26.
It's one part of a programme of smaller | :05:27. | :05:30.
schemes to sit alongside the big investments we're making. | :05:31. | :05:33.
But will traffic lights really relieve congestion? | :05:34. | :05:36.
Some regular users of the A11 aren't impressed. | :05:37. | :05:39.
Well, it's just going to make it clog up even more, isn't it? | :05:40. | :05:45.
Today, local councillors were telling reporters | :05:46. | :05:47.
though a little disruptive, will make Fiveways safer. | :05:48. | :05:51.
They say it will only be an interim measure | :05:52. | :05:52.
until money is found to divert the A11 away from here. | :05:53. | :05:58.
The A11 is an important trunk road, we don't want | :05:59. | :06:00.
to slow down traffic on the A11 and clearly having | :06:01. | :06:03.
Local people are pleased with today's news. | :06:04. | :06:13.
A11 drivers will nervously wait to see what happens. | :06:14. | :06:16.
the world-renowned architect Sir Norman Foster | :06:17. | :06:22.
has been chosen to design three new crossings at the port | :06:23. | :06:24.
Today, images of the multi-million pound | :06:25. | :06:37.
It's hoped they'll help ease traffic congestion in town. | :06:38. | :06:40.
That's it for now but i'll leave you with the weather. | :06:41. | :06:43.
It's a largely dry night, perhaps a little bit of drizzle. Some patchy | :06:44. | :06:51.
mist and fog so some of us. Very mild, temperatures for many of us | :06:52. | :06:56.
will not drop any lower than seven Celsius. Tomorrow, any mist and fog | :06:57. | :07:01.
should clear and then dry leading up from France will help break the | :07:02. | :07:05.
piled up. Some decent sunny spells developing. Temperature is quite | :07:06. | :07:10.
widely around 14 or 15 Celsius, in the best of the sunshine, perhaps 18 | :07:11. | :07:16.
Celsius. A different day on Sunday, cloudy with outbreak of rain for a | :07:17. | :07:19.
time. Some of this rain could be on the heavy side. Hopefully we will | :07:20. | :07:23.
have some fine and dry weather also. Sarah will have the national | :07:24. | :07:26.
forecast but I will leave you with the outlook and high pressure in | :07:27. | :07:27.
charge on Monday and Tuesday, Where the sunshine broke through to | :07:28. | :07:45.
the North of Cornwall temperatures rose to 17 degrees under the blue | :07:46. | :07:48.
skies. For many of us the cloud didn't break up through the day, | :07:49. | :07:53.
keeping temperatures pegged at around about 13 degrees. That was | :07:54. | :07:58.
the high today in the London region. Mild over night with the blanket of | :07:59. | :08:00.
cloud around. Most places | :08:01. | :08:02. |
