Hello and welcome to the Look East late news.

:00:00.:00:00.

The Prime Minister in Norwich to kickstart her campaign.

:00:07.:00:09.

the Chief Constable calling for internet companies to help

:00:10.:00:13.

And after a fairly miserable Monday, I will be here

:00:14.:00:18.

with your weather for the week ahead.

:00:19.:00:31.

The Prime Minister Theresa May came to Norwich today on what's

:00:32.:00:34.

being seen as the first day of proper campaigning

:00:35.:00:36.

It's the only place in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk

:00:37.:00:46.

and a city without a single Conservative councillor.

:00:47.:00:49.

It's also the only place in the region

:00:50.:00:51.

which voted Remain in the EU referendum last year.

:00:52.:00:53.

Our political correspondent Andrew Sinclair reports.

:00:54.:00:57.

The Prime Minister at the Norwich Aviation Academy this afternoon.

:00:58.:00:59.

Just opened, it's a new type of training facility,

:01:00.:01:03.

teaching young people how to be aviation mechanics.

:01:04.:01:09.

So, James, what can we see about the lift formula with this?

:01:10.:01:12.

In a classroom, she sat in on a lesson

:01:13.:01:14.

about aerodynamics and appeared to follow what they were talking about.

:01:15.:01:17.

Mrs May said this sort of place shows that we can

:01:18.:01:20.

make a success of Brexit because we're developing our own

:01:21.:01:23.

The enthusiasm of the young people shows

:01:24.:01:28.

that this, I think, is going to be great both in ensuring they have

:01:29.:01:31.

got the skills needed for the jobs of the future but also

:01:32.:01:34.

we're developing the economy of the future.

:01:35.:01:36.

Creating the jobs for the future is one thing but Norwich was

:01:37.:01:39.

a Remain city and there are a lot of people at this airport and in

:01:40.:01:43.

businesses in this part of the world who are worried

:01:44.:01:45.

that Brexit and leaving the single market will

:01:46.:01:47.

What we want to do is to ensure that we get the best possible

:01:48.:01:54.

deal on our Brexit negotiations, the best possible deal of our

:01:55.:01:56.

relationship of the future with the European Union.

:01:57.:01:58.

I want that to be a deep and special partnership.

:01:59.:02:01.

We're looking for a comprehensive free trade agreement.

:02:02.:02:05.

I want to ensure that their jobs here and across the

:02:06.:02:08.

This is not the easiest of all places for a

:02:09.:02:21.

Conservative Prime Minister to campaign.

:02:22.:02:22.

Norfolk itself is very Conservative and Brexit-supporting

:02:23.:02:24.

but Norwich recorded a big Remain vote and there are no Conservative

:02:25.:02:26.

Norwich North is held by the Tories with a small majority.

:02:27.:02:30.

While the other seat, Norwich South, is

:02:31.:02:32.

comfortably held by Labour and there they are concerns about Brexit.

:02:33.:02:36.

Lots of our residents from the European Union

:02:37.:02:37.

and elsewhere in Norwich who are making a tremendous contribution to

:02:38.:02:43.

the local economy, bringing with them their skills and those

:02:44.:02:47.

are the sorts of things which I am a bit worried

:02:48.:02:49.

about because if the Prime Minister is going for a hard Brexit,

:02:50.:02:53.

I think that jeopardises our growing economy.

:02:54.:03:00.

The Prime Minister was in the Conservative and Brexit friendly

:03:01.:03:04.

But she knows that if she wants to show that

:03:05.:03:08.

she can unite the country post-Brexit, she needs

:03:09.:03:10.

to start winning support from the whole of Norwich.

:03:11.:03:13.

So day one of the campaign proper, but why choose Norwich?

:03:14.:03:21.

The Conservatives have very large majorities across all of East Anglia

:03:22.:03:30.

but there are some exceptions and Norwich North is one of them.

:03:31.:03:34.

Chloe Smith holds the seat at the moment

:03:35.:03:39.

And I am told the Prime Minister has a bit of a soft spot

:03:40.:03:44.

for Norwich North because she ran the Conservative's successful

:03:45.:03:46.

by-election campaign there back in 2009.

:03:47.:03:48.

Chloe Smith has been on maternity leave

:03:49.:03:51.

for much of last year and hasn't been seen much and she wanted

:03:52.:03:57.

The other reason I am told is that the Tories

:03:58.:04:01.

have got their eyes on the next door seat of Norwich South.

:04:02.:04:04.

Yes, it's got a large Labour majority.

:04:05.:04:05.

Clive Lewis holds it with the majority of

:04:06.:04:07.

more than 7500 but the Conservatives have said to me that they believe

:04:08.:04:11.

with a fair wind, they reckon they could take that seat and in doing

:04:12.:04:14.

so, take out a big beast of Labour, Clive Lewis is seen as a future

:04:15.:04:18.

leadership contender, but also take a Remain city

:04:19.:04:20.

and to be able to take a Remain seat in this so-called Brexit election,

:04:21.:04:28.

they think would send a very powerful signal.

:04:29.:04:29.

So, Jeremy Corbyn has been to the region.

:04:30.:04:31.

We've had the Prime Minister here today.

:04:32.:04:33.

Party strategists in both the main parties are saying to

:04:34.:04:39.

me that actually in this election, the main battle grounds are the

:04:40.:04:42.

Midlands and the north of England, that's where all

:04:43.:04:44.

That is where most of the visits are being planned.

:04:45.:04:48.

Yes, we do have our own battle grounds, the two

:04:49.:04:50.

Norwich seats, North Norfolk as well is on many people's list,

:04:51.:04:53.

But on the whole, most of the attention in this election

:04:54.:04:57.

It's going to be in other parts of the country.

:04:58.:05:00.

And throughout the general election campaign,

:05:01.:05:04.

we want to hear from you, whether it's a question for a candidate

:05:05.:05:08.

or a strong opinion on what's important to you.

:05:09.:05:12.

We're calling it hashtag "getsmyvote".

:05:14.:05:19.

Next tonight: Why the Chief Constable of Norfolk

:05:20.:05:31.

says internet companies like Facebook and Google hold

:05:32.:05:33.

the key to stopping people from viewing images of child

:05:34.:05:36.

on the day the region's police forces came together

:05:37.:05:40.

I always thought that, one day, I would get that knock on the door.

:05:41.:05:45.

The words as said by actors, originally spoken by offenders.

:05:46.:05:48.

I didn't consider the full effect this had had on my wife.

:05:49.:05:51.

This is a video made by The Lucy Faithfull Foundation to help

:05:52.:05:54.

Simon Bailey, the Chief Constable of Norfolk Police, is in charge of

:05:55.:06:05.

He has launched Operation Net Safe to tackle what he describes

:06:06.:06:09.

The police service across the United Kingdom is

:06:10.:06:13.

We are safeguarding over 500 children every month.

:06:14.:06:19.

Whilst we are doing more than any other country

:06:20.:06:22.

in the world within this field,

:06:23.:06:23.

we simply cannot arrest our way out of it.

:06:24.:06:25.

Police forces across our region are dealing with an

:06:26.:06:27.

unprecedented number of reports about child sexual abuse

:06:28.:06:30.

This is the Norfolk Police control room where

:06:31.:06:34.

they take calls from those who've been abused.

:06:35.:06:38.

Interestingly, in the last year, The Lucy Faithfull Foundation

:06:39.:06:40.

has taken more than 1800 calls from those living in the east

:06:41.:06:44.

who are concerned about their own behaviour online.

:06:45.:06:48.

Chief Constable Simon Bailey believes this crime

:06:49.:06:51.

will only be stopped if the internet companies make it impossible

:06:52.:06:53.

The police service alone simply cannot deal with this.

:06:54.:06:59.

But the tech companies hold the key here.

:07:00.:07:04.

Tonight, a spokesman for Facebook says...

:07:05.:07:14.

Google hasn't yet been available for comment.

:07:15.:07:16.

The police search for the missing airman Corrie Mckeague is now

:07:17.:07:23.

And so far there has been no sign of him.

:07:24.:07:27.

Teams began searching a landfill site near Cambridge back in March

:07:28.:07:30.

where it's thought his body may have been deposited there

:07:31.:07:33.

after vanishing during a night out in Bury St Edmunds last September.

:07:34.:07:37.

Let's get the latest from the search site now

:07:38.:07:39.

standing on this landfill by me with standing on this landfill by me with

:07:40.:07:52.

the police and the showed me that they were confident they were

:07:53.:07:54.

looking in the right place. Here we are into the last scheduled week of

:07:55.:07:59.

the ten week search. What have the police got to show Fred? They have

:08:00.:08:02.

found artefacts, small things that beat to the time that Corrie

:08:03.:08:06.

directly links it to Corrie Mckeague directly links it to Corrie Mckeague

:08:07.:08:09.

or the bin that he reportedly ended up in. Of course every investigation

:08:10.:08:13.

is only good as the information that is only good as the information that

:08:14.:08:18.

is fed into it and that is why a few days ago Corrie Mckeague's mother

:08:19.:08:21.

Nicola was worried, she told me the police were not searching in the

:08:22.:08:22.

right place. I do believe Corrie

:08:23.:08:25.

is in the landfill. That is my concern,

:08:26.:08:27.

that he might not be in that cell. I know the police are rechecking

:08:28.:08:32.

and rechecking constantly. I keep trying to think,

:08:33.:08:36.

we're talking about it constantly, Police say we should take this on a

:08:37.:08:54.

day by day basis. They finished the search of the cell itself. They are

:08:55.:08:58.

now searching the outer edges, the entrants in case about vital waste

:08:59.:09:03.

may have drifted out of the cell. As for the time frame, that could take

:09:04.:09:06.

several more days. It could end at the end of this week or it may

:09:07.:09:08.

extend into next week. Let's bear in extend into next week. Let's bear in

:09:09.:09:13.

mind that this investigation has so far, all through the seven months,

:09:14.:09:18.

cost ?1 million. So far, there is precious little to show Fred.

:09:19.:09:21.

Thank you very much, Alex. Finally tonight an author

:09:22.:09:24.

from Essex has won Book of the Year at this evening's

:09:25.:09:26.

British Book Awards. Sarah Perry's

:09:27.:09:28.

book, The Essex Serpent, is a gothic tale set in the 1890s

:09:29.:09:30.

and inspired by a local legend. It also won the Fiction Book

:09:31.:09:33.

of the Year award in an event that That's all from me,

:09:34.:09:36.

the weather now with Julie. But from the rest of

:09:37.:09:39.

the late team, goodnight. Thank you. Overnight tonight, I

:09:40.:09:49.

think most of us will be fine and dry. A little bit of light rain and

:09:50.:09:54.

drizzle. We can have some clear spells. That will affect the

:09:55.:09:58.

temperature. These are the expected lows. Under the clear skies, three

:09:59.:10:02.

Celsius. A touch of frost perhaps. Most of us, a frost free night.

:10:03.:10:07.

Cloud seeding down from the north. Perhaps a little bit patchy rain but

:10:08.:10:09.

a dry day for most of us. a dry day for most of us.

:10:10.:10:13.

Temperatures slightly higher than today under the Bekaa, 12 or 13

:10:14.:10:18.

through, around 15 Celsius. That is through, around 15 Celsius. That is

:10:19.:10:20.

Tuesday. Joy into the day. Tuesday. Joy into the day.

:10:21.:10:22.

Wednesday, high pressure in charge Wednesday, high pressure in charge

:10:23.:10:26.

and a much better chance of because breaking up allowing some decent

:10:27.:10:30.

sunny spells. That will have an effect on the temperatures. I think

:10:31.:10:34.

possibly up to 70,000 in the best of possibly up to 70,000 in the best of

:10:35.:10:39.

the sunshine. Then towards the end of the week, the weather dependent

:10:40.:10:42.

on the movement of this weather front. Now, at the moment it looks

:10:43.:10:47.

like Thursday will be largely fine and dry with some spells of

:10:48.:10:50.

sunshine. Although eventually cloud thickening from the start with

:10:51.:10:54.

outbreaks of rain. Friday is when we are expecting the main band of rain

:10:55.:10:58.

to move on through. In a moment, the national focus but here's the

:10:59.:10:59.

outlook for next weekend. Sunny with some sunshine and showers, it

:11:00.:11:04.

will become drier and feel warm. Now the National forecast.

:11:05.:11:08.

Good evening. A quiet day on the weather front but we still managed

:11:09.:11:17.

to have some huge contrasts in the weather. This was a beautiful

:11:18.:11:21.

picture from Cumbria, blue skies and crystal clear blue skies in Argyll

:11:22.:11:29.

and Bute but closer to the north coast, it sends shivers down your

:11:30.:11:33.

spine! Chilly and cloudy all along that cost this bank of cloud that

:11:34.:11:38.

sliced the country in half, cool and cloudy to the east and to the West

:11:39.:11:44.

had sunshine. But it still been dry and it will stay that way for most

:11:45.:11:49.

of the week. As we get into Friday, there is some rain on the way. In

:11:50.:11:54.

the short-term, not much happening in the next few hours, quite a bit

:11:55.:11:58.

of cloud in most of England and Wales but many northern and western

:11:59.:12:02.

parts, the stars are out. Temperatures not

:12:03.:12:04.
