Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North. | :00:00. | :00:00.
The headlines in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire this Monday night... | :00:00. | :00:10.
Online abuse aimed at travellers and gypsies will not be tolerated, | :00:11. | :00:12.
says Humberside's Police and Crime Commissioner. | :00:13. | :00:20.
It is like they are the last community around in the country | :00:21. | :00:25.
where people feel they can say this kind of thing with immunity. They | :00:26. | :00:26.
are not going to get immunity. A man's sent to prison | :00:27. | :00:29.
after a cash machine was ripped It is quite scary to sink something | :00:30. | :00:39.
like that would happen here. -- think. | :00:40. | :00:40.
Extra money for East Coast resorts to try and attract | :00:41. | :00:43.
The best part of ?4 million will be invested in Hornsea for improving | :00:44. | :00:52.
facilities for road users and bringing more visitors to the south | :00:53. | :00:53.
end of the seafront. Weekend warriors - | :00:54. | :00:55.
Hull City are just a point More than just a bridge - | :00:56. | :00:57.
the new music to soundtrack We have seen some lovely weather | :00:58. | :01:13.
across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire today. We'll seems like | :01:14. | :01:17.
this stay with us? A full forecast shortly. -- will scenarios like | :01:18. | :01:22.
this. The Humberside Police | :01:23. | :01:29.
and Crime Commissioner is warning people they will be prosecuted | :01:30. | :01:31.
for extreme comments they make on social media | :01:32. | :01:33.
about gypsies and travellers. Keith Hunter says many people | :01:34. | :01:35.
are committing hate crimes and the force will target hose | :01:36. | :01:39.
who post threatening comments Our correspondent | :01:40. | :01:42.
Vicky Johnson has more. They are often portrayed in the | :01:43. | :01:56.
media as unwelcome visitors. And when travellers recently pitched up | :01:57. | :02:00.
near Hull the younger of some locals erupted on social media. Many posted | :02:01. | :02:05.
from calling travellers of vermin to from calling travellers of vermin to | :02:06. | :02:11.
threats to harm them. People have been writing things in encouraging | :02:12. | :02:15.
people to burn out these caravans with women and children inside. If | :02:16. | :02:21.
people threatened to burn down churches, synagogues and mosques, | :02:22. | :02:24.
people would rightly crying out that it was not acceptable. But with | :02:25. | :02:28.
Gypsies and travellers it is like they are the last community where | :02:29. | :02:31.
people feel they can say that kind of thing with immunity. They will | :02:32. | :02:39.
not get immunity. This is one of the trailers that I live in with my | :02:40. | :02:45.
family. This woman is a Romany gypsy who tries to build bridges with the | :02:46. | :02:49.
settled community in Lincolnshire but she says online abuse is very | :02:50. | :02:55.
damaging. It makes me feel fearful for my children, my grandchildren. | :02:56. | :03:00.
It makes me feel separate from the rest of the community. Just very | :03:01. | :03:05.
painful in general. It is very debilitating for young people, most | :03:06. | :03:10.
of whom are online, reading comments like that. There have been | :03:11. | :03:14.
complaints right across the area from Grimsby to ghoul about the mess | :03:15. | :03:20.
left by some travellers and gypsies. What the Ross on permanent sides | :03:21. | :03:26.
there are no specific stopover places in Hull, Northern | :03:27. | :03:29.
Lincolnshire or East Yorkshire. The council have failed in their | :03:30. | :03:33.
obligation to make site provision. So families do not have an option | :03:34. | :03:36.
about where they live and where they are camping. Every community has | :03:37. | :03:41.
individuals you might call bad apples. For the harbour-side police | :03:42. | :03:46.
and Crime Commissioner, enough is enough. We must draw a line in the | :03:47. | :03:51.
sand and say it is not acceptable for anybody to use threatening and | :03:52. | :03:56.
abusive language. Police are warning anybody found posting hate filled | :03:57. | :04:00.
comments about gypsies and travellers could now face | :04:01. | :04:01.
prosecution. Helen Jones is from the Leeds Gypsy | :04:02. | :04:03.
and Traveller Exchange. I asked her if it's | :04:04. | :04:06.
depressing that the Police and Crime Commissioner has had | :04:07. | :04:09.
to speak out in this way. Also the fact it has | :04:10. | :04:14.
taken lobbying by gypsy traveller advocates to get him | :04:15. | :04:25.
to the position where he recognises I welcome the commissioner's | :04:26. | :04:28.
response but hope he and others will be more | :04:29. | :04:32.
proactive in future, without relying upon advocates | :04:33. | :04:34.
to bring the matter to Why do you feel some people think | :04:35. | :04:36.
they can make offensive and unacceptable remarks about | :04:37. | :04:43.
travellers where they would not do And unfortunately they are not | :04:44. | :04:45.
pulled up for doing it. If something comes out | :04:46. | :04:56.
of the statement, if that leads to people being brought up short | :04:57. | :04:59.
for their actions we might see | :05:00. | :05:01.
some progress on this issue and might see some | :05:02. | :05:03.
of these tired, painful stereotypes | :05:04. | :05:04.
stop being repeated. Well, as you know, | :05:05. | :05:06.
I'm not from the gypsy traveller community myself | :05:07. | :05:16.
and actually I often feel I am glad I am not and I'm glad I am employed | :05:17. | :05:19.
to be I'm glad I am put forward | :05:20. | :05:22.
and can be there to challenge these things, | :05:23. | :05:30.
because I don't see why it should be that people who are victims of crime | :05:31. | :05:33.
have to be the only people that There is clearly something | :05:34. | :05:37.
of a breakdown somewhere between the traveller community | :05:38. | :05:45.
and some other people. One of the ways is | :05:46. | :05:46.
by interrupting hate crime and being very clear | :05:47. | :05:51.
about what hate crime is. The other side is just having | :05:52. | :05:53.
more situations where people can get to know each other | :05:54. | :05:57.
and get past these tired stereotype. I'm sorry to say it again | :05:58. | :06:01.
but there is good and bad in all walks of life and we have | :06:02. | :06:07.
to get past that. Just briefly, some | :06:08. | :06:10.
of these messages even I don't want to read out, which have | :06:11. | :06:12.
been posted on social media, What do you say to people | :06:13. | :06:15.
who make these comments? Get a life, find | :06:16. | :06:18.
something better to do with yourself, make a positive | :06:19. | :06:20.
contribution to the world Helen Jones, thank you very much, | :06:21. | :06:23.
nice talking to you tonight. A 22-year-old man has been | :06:24. | :06:27.
jailed for four years The ATM was ripped from the wall | :06:28. | :06:32.
of the Spa shop in Thorngumbald Targeted by thieves in February - | :06:33. | :06:43.
the cash point at this shop in Thorngumbold, | :06:44. | :06:56.
stolen in a ram raid. But today, as the gang behind | :06:57. | :06:59.
it is still to be arrested, 22-year-old Lewis Holdstock | :07:00. | :07:02.
from Southcoates Lane in Hull pleaded guilty to stealing a JCB | :07:03. | :07:05.
from a local farm and using it It was very distressing | :07:06. | :07:08.
because a lot of people relied on the ATM, | :07:09. | :07:12.
especially older people. There is nothing in the village | :07:13. | :07:15.
for them to get any money and upset everybody in the village, | :07:16. | :07:18.
as well. In conclusion the judge said the man | :07:19. | :07:32.
was probably not the brains behind the operation but had | :07:33. | :07:35.
nonetheless taken part in a well-planned, audacious | :07:36. | :07:37.
and sophisticated crime. He sentenced him to four | :07:38. | :07:39.
years in prison and said he would spend at least half that | :07:40. | :07:46.
time behind bars and the rest Thieves failed to escape | :07:47. | :07:49.
with the ?38,000 worth of cash in the machine, | :07:50. | :07:52.
but they caused ?68,000 worth I went to the chemist | :07:53. | :07:55.
and they said, have you seen I had seen several similar | :07:56. | :07:59.
sorts of villages, maybe a bit larger than this, | :08:00. | :08:09.
having the same thing happen. Eight cash machines have been taken | :08:10. | :08:12.
in this area in the last In a statement the | :08:13. | :08:16.
police have said... Meanwhile the shop here is waiting | :08:17. | :08:26.
to return to normal, with repairs Shortlisting has started to find | :08:27. | :08:29.
the new Chief Constable The position, which commands | :08:30. | :08:39.
a salary of up to ?160,000, became available after Justine Curran stood | :08:40. | :08:43.
down in February. Interviews will take | :08:44. | :08:45.
place later this month. Nottinghamshire police say more | :08:46. | :08:52.
than 100 officers are continuing to search for a mother and her two | :08:53. | :08:54.
sons, who have been Officers believe Samantha Baldwin | :08:55. | :08:57.
has abducted her two boys nine-year-old Louis and six-year-old | :08:58. | :09:04.
Dylan. These CCTV images were taken just | :09:05. | :09:09.
a few days before they disappeared, police say the 40 year-old may have | :09:10. | :09:14.
since changed appearances. The family have links | :09:15. | :09:17.
to Lincolnshire. Police across the region have seen | :09:18. | :09:18.
a rise in reports of children meeting paedophiles, | :09:19. | :09:22.
according to figures There were 93 reports last | :09:23. | :09:23.
year to police forces across the Yorkshire and Humber | :09:24. | :09:30.
region, more than double In Lincolnshire there were 50 | :09:31. | :09:32.
incidents over the last five years. If you have young children there | :09:33. | :09:47.
will be much interest in that story. We will have more on that on Look | :09:48. | :09:50.
North at half past ten. More than ?10 million of money | :09:51. | :09:54.
will be invested in seaside Hornsea and Cleethorpes | :09:55. | :09:56.
are the biggest winners, Our reporter Amanda White is live | :09:57. | :09:59.
in Hornsea for us tonight. It is being shared out from here in | :10:00. | :10:15.
Hornsea writes down to Cleethorpes, mainly on tourism projects. For | :10:16. | :10:21.
example, in the fruit market, ?700,000 to turn it into a 3-storey | :10:22. | :10:28.
state of the art arts venue. And the Yorkshire wildlife trust, focusing | :10:29. | :10:31.
on conservation, education, at the new visitor centre and this coastal | :10:32. | :10:36.
community money is hotly contested and the fact there is so much of it | :10:37. | :10:40.
coming right to our doorstep is being celebrated. The beach might be | :10:41. | :10:46.
the main attraction at the close but today people want more. Almost ?10 | :10:47. | :10:51.
million of government money will help provide it. The vision is to | :10:52. | :10:57.
create a new area and new tourism area for people to come and visit. | :10:58. | :11:01.
We can make sure this area is regenerated. People want to come and | :11:02. | :11:06.
visit, have a look and they had the opportunity to enjoy all the things | :11:07. | :11:10.
Cleethorpes has the offer. Great to be in Hornsea today with local | :11:11. | :11:14.
leaders and join in a celebration about what will be more improvement | :11:15. | :11:19.
on an already marvellous town. The money is being shared out along our | :11:20. | :11:23.
coast. Hornsey will get almost ?4 million to renovate the seafront. | :11:24. | :11:27.
Just over 1 million will be spent on projects including creating natural | :11:28. | :11:32.
habitat near the wetlands. Cleethorpes will also get a cash | :11:33. | :11:36.
boost of almost ?4 million to improve public spaces. Businesses in | :11:37. | :11:41.
Cleethorpes are keen to know more. We have lot of things like treasure | :11:42. | :11:48.
Island, recently. This is something the whole community can get involved | :11:49. | :11:52.
with in bringing people to the town. There are certain areas we would | :11:53. | :11:55.
love to smarten up and we hope it will attract people more to | :11:56. | :11:59.
Cleethorpes. Some places have been abandoned for years and had not had | :12:00. | :12:03.
any investment. It is interesting with the investment has come from. | :12:04. | :12:08.
Any more that is put into the front and further along up to the boat | :12:09. | :12:13.
club would be fantastic. In Hornsea a cafe and education centre will be | :12:14. | :12:16.
developed alongside a better boat yard. Although fishermen will come | :12:17. | :12:20.
the improved facilities they are also concerned. It will bring more | :12:21. | :12:25.
public into dangerous areas because we have tractors, boats and trailers | :12:26. | :12:30.
crossing the road and coming from the beach. The idea of fishermen | :12:31. | :12:35.
coming down to the south end was to get them away from the public. But | :12:36. | :12:39.
this is not taking them away. This is increasing the public around the | :12:40. | :12:43.
fishermen. Sooner or later there will be an accident. Increasing | :12:44. | :12:48.
visitor numbers is the main driver behind the projects winning funding | :12:49. | :12:53.
today. Now the money is here it is the finer detail that needs to be | :12:54. | :12:54.
resolved. This is the road the fishermen have | :12:55. | :13:04.
the cross. We can see there are genuine safety concerns yet to be | :13:05. | :13:09.
addressed. And likewise at the other area there is concern at the visitor | :13:10. | :13:13.
centre which still needs to be ironed out. But there is cause for | :13:14. | :13:18.
celebration today. Just one project in Cleethorpes promises a unique | :13:19. | :13:22.
venue, right on the seafront, thanks to one of the projects funded today. | :13:23. | :13:25.
Amanda, thank you very much. We want to hear from | :13:26. | :13:27.
you on this story. What difference do you think this | :13:28. | :13:30.
money will make to the East Coast? What more do we need to do | :13:31. | :13:33.
to improve our seaside towns? The lion's share of the money going | :13:34. | :13:42.
to Hornsey and Cleethorpes. What do they need and what would you spend | :13:43. | :13:46.
the money on? It is a lot of money, as well. What can we do to attract | :13:47. | :13:52.
people to the resorts and keep them alive? What would you like to see it | :13:53. | :13:56.
spent on hand to get visitors all year around? The addresses... The | :13:57. | :14:08.
text number... And follow me on Twitter... ?10 million for the East | :14:09. | :14:15.
Coast resorts. How would you like to see the money spent? What do you | :14:16. | :14:19.
think it should be spent on? We look forward to hearing from you. | :14:20. | :14:22.
Still ahead tonight: Hull City move a step closer | :14:23. | :14:24.
I'm at Sincil Bank - as Lincoln City continue their push | :14:25. | :14:30.
for promotion to the Football League. | :14:31. | :14:36.
The Opera North composition reaching both sides of the Humber. | :14:37. | :14:52.
That is a fascinating story, the sounds of the bridge. Do not miss | :14:53. | :14:58.
that in about ten minutes. Now the weather is better. This was taken by | :14:59. | :15:02.
Danny and it is of Gainsborough. Dani, thank you. Another picture | :15:03. | :15:07.
tomorrow night at around about the same time. Send them to us. Paul and | :15:08. | :15:12.
Keely are both not here. It is an early Easter treat because Owen is | :15:13. | :15:18.
here the weather. I should have maybe dressed up as something a bit | :15:19. | :15:21.
more Easter like, like an Easter bunny. A bit early? With anybody | :15:22. | :15:26.
else we would laugh and think it was a joke but with you it could | :15:27. | :15:33.
possibly be true! I guess so, yes. I think Paul has an Easter bunny | :15:34. | :15:36.
outfit. Maybe I will ask to borrow it! Across East Yorkshire and | :15:37. | :15:40.
Lincolnshire it has been quite lovely house there. Lovely blue sky. | :15:41. | :15:45.
This will change. We are switching gears to night, because this is | :15:46. | :15:50.
coming from the West. This weather front is slowly coming across | :15:51. | :15:55.
eastern parts. I do not want to play it up too much because the rain is | :15:56. | :16:00.
quite light and patchy. It will be quite mild as well have around 10 | :16:01. | :16:05.
Celsius. Low temperatures tonight but breezy and time. High waters, | :16:06. | :16:10.
Hull at 12.40. Rising tomorrow morning at 6.20 seven. As the | :16:11. | :16:16.
weather feature is quite lethargic it does not want to leave ours but | :16:17. | :16:19.
it will gradually go, despite being laid-back. A bit of rain continuing | :16:20. | :16:24.
in part of Lincolnshire, for example. Brighter further north with | :16:25. | :16:30.
some sunny spells developing as the clouds are breaking up. Feeling | :16:31. | :16:33.
cooler than today, especially in southern and eastern areas, where we | :16:34. | :16:38.
hang onto that cloud but are still getting to around 12 or 13 Celsius | :16:39. | :16:42.
with a northerly or north-westerly breeze. The week ahead very | :16:43. | :16:48.
quickly... We have this area of high pressure. We like high pressure | :16:49. | :16:51.
because it does keep the weather settled and dry much of the time. | :16:52. | :16:56.
Keeping the weather fronts away and a low pressure. We will take it. | :16:57. | :17:02.
That will stay on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and possibly | :17:03. | :17:06.
beyond. So that means the picture we are painting is mostly settled and | :17:07. | :17:11.
dry, as well. Feeling relatively mild, not as warm as perhaps today, | :17:12. | :17:16.
we are seeing textures into the middle scenes but you can see on the | :17:17. | :17:20.
outlook it is not a bad one. I think we will take it, because we will see | :17:21. | :17:24.
a bit of sunshine in the mix, as well. We like high pressure, do we? | :17:25. | :17:31.
We really do, yes. That is what I get from you, so inaccurate and so | :17:32. | :17:36.
well turned out. The rest of us here looks so scruffy next to you. Bless | :17:37. | :17:42.
you, not at all! We look forward to the bunny outfit! | :17:43. | :17:45.
Lincoln City could take a big step towards promotion back | :17:46. | :17:48.
The Imps play Dagenham and Redbridge at Sincil Bank and if they win | :17:49. | :17:52.
they could move three points clear of second placed Tranmere. | :17:53. | :17:54.
Well, it isn't going to be an easy game for Lincoln, | :17:55. | :18:03.
but the team are still top of the National League | :18:04. | :18:05.
following Saturday's win against Bromley. | :18:06. | :18:08.
Substitute Billy Knott scoring the only goal of the game | :18:09. | :18:11.
But with just a few weeks of the season to go, | :18:12. | :18:16.
it can be a nervy time for some fans... | :18:17. | :18:21.
And manager Danny Cowley has asked supporters to "enjoy it". | :18:22. | :18:25.
He says, "don't wish it away or pray for the end. | :18:26. | :18:30.
"Life is for living. Keep believing". | :18:31. | :18:32.
Well, a short while ago I spoke to John Vickers from the club... | :18:33. | :18:38.
Every game is a tough game at this stage in the season. Maybe more so | :18:39. | :18:44.
because Dagenham are there as well so they are looking for three points | :18:45. | :18:47.
to keep themselves in the mix. They are not out of it at all. Our form | :18:48. | :18:52.
at home is second to none. Confidence is high. We have not been | :18:53. | :18:57.
beaten here. In time. A big night here but also important for some | :18:58. | :19:01.
other local side. Let's look at the highlights of the weekend action. | :19:02. | :19:06.
Hull City claimed a priceless win on Saturday. | :19:07. | :19:08.
But it was West Ham that opened the scoring in the first half. | :19:09. | :19:14.
Before a second-half fightback saw goals from Andrew Robertson | :19:15. | :19:16.

The Tigers' hopes of staying up in the Premier League - | :19:27. | :19:29.
From a first half performance we probably would've | :19:30. | :19:40.
took a point if I'm being honest. | :19:41. | :19:44.
Then we can see it changing and the fans getting behind us. | :19:45. | :19:47.
You start believing we have got the three points. | :19:48. | :19:49.
We show again with our fans we are strong. | :19:50. | :19:51.
Very good, because we start to lose and after | :19:52. | :19:53.
I think really we deserve this result. | :19:54. | :19:57.
Not such a good day though for Scunthorpe United. | :19:58. | :19:59.
An early penalty put fellow promotion hopefuls | :20:00. | :20:01.
The Iron tried to get back into the game, | :20:02. | :20:04.
but the hosts extended their lead with two further goals. | :20:05. | :20:07.
Before Scunthorpe's Matt Crooks finally pulled a goal back in added | :20:08. | :20:11.

The Mariners opened the scoring at home in League Two | :20:14. | :20:23.
before Doncaster Rovers equalised - and then goals kept on coming. | :20:24. | :20:28.
5-1 was the final score, putting Doncaster within touching | :20:29. | :20:30.

this weekend on The Humber Bridge. It's a piece of art by the opera | :21:30. | :21:32.
company Opera North, who have recorded music and combined | :21:33. | :21:34.

a special soundtrack to go Our culture correspondent | :21:38. | :21:40.
Anne-Marie Tasker explains. Many of us will have driven | :21:41. | :21:57.

this thing right in front of their noses | :22:35. | :22:37.

These are the first people to make the sonic | :22:41. | :22:42.

The project runs throughout April, but has been | :23:45. | :23:46.

Looking forward to hearing about. Well done, Anne-Marie, and her | :24:04. | :24:08.
colleagues, going to the top of the bridge, filming that. We talked | :24:09. | :24:13.
about the celebration of the city of culture on Friday night. A lot of | :24:14. | :24:17.
messages over the weekend almost unanimously saying how much they | :24:18. | :24:21.
loved the first three months of the city of culture. Keep those coming. | :24:22. | :24:29.
Plenty more to come this year. It is five to seven. A reminder of the | :24:30. | :24:32.

to and put on the programme. E-mail in, usual address. Talking about the | :25:20. | :25:26.
money, around ?10 million for seaside communities in the region | :25:27. | :25:28.
and how it should be spent, there is a big response about this. Most of | :25:29. | :25:33.
the money is going to Hornsey and Cleethorpes. A big response with | :25:34. | :25:37.
strong views on how the money should be spent. | :25:38. | :25:41.
Julie says: "I don't think a visitor hub | :25:42. | :25:43.
Seating would be nice and disabled friendly access to places. | :25:44. | :25:46.
Get rid of amusement arcades, I hate them!" | :25:47. | :25:49.
Diane Barwell says, "It amazes me that the government can find | :25:50. | :25:53.

the east coast we get a big response and tonight is no exception. | :26:24. | :26:25.
Dee Anderson says, "Sutton on Sea needs a new up to date promenade, | :26:26. | :26:28.

Cleethorpes. Patricia, how lovely for Hornsey, but what about Skip C? | :26:54. | :26:58.
The coastline is being eroded and nobody cares. What about some good | :26:59. | :27:03.
old-fashioned wooden breakers? They would help and not cost the earth | :27:04. | :27:08.
but give the community a feeling of safety and encourage tourism. | :27:09. | :27:12.
Carroll, when people come to Hornsey to see these changes they also want | :27:13. | :27:19.

that. Thank you for all of these. Always a big response when we talk | :27:29. | :27:31.
about what to do with east coast resorts. Thank you. Join me if you | :27:32. | :27:35.
can for the later programme at 10.30. If not, I will see you | :27:36. | :27:40.
