here on BBC One we can now join the BBC's news teams where you are.

Disability sports groups in Hull say there should be an easier

:00:12.:00:16.

way to obtain funding if they're to guarantee

:00:17.:00:18.

Clubs say they've seen a big increase in attendance

:00:19.:00:33.

Paralympics GB had one of their best games ever in Rio,

:00:34.:00:38.

with great success for athletes from East Yorkshire

:00:39.:00:40.

Inspired by them, more people have been trying things

:00:41.:00:46.

But to provide the specialist kit new members need,

:00:47.:00:50.

groups in Hull now have to raise ?30,000 in the next year.

:00:51.:00:53.

You are looking at specialist sports chairs that cost around ?3000,

:00:54.:01:01.

to power chairs, you are looking at around ?5,000.

:01:02.:01:04.

There are several clubs in the area that are facing financial ruin,

:01:05.:01:12.

and without funding from us urgently, they

:01:13.:01:14.

Disability Sports Humber also helps Hull's members

:01:15.:01:17.

of Great Britain's sledge hockey team cover the cost

:01:18.:01:19.

They worry they'll lose out through the funding shortage.

:01:20.:01:22.

It would make the national competition very difficult.

:01:23.:01:24.

We have two fund our ice costs, travel costs,

:01:25.:01:26.

everything like that, just to train.

:01:27.:01:31.

So, not having that funding would prevent us doing that.

:01:32.:01:35.

Disbility sports groups get money by applying for a patchwork

:01:36.:01:40.

of grants from sporting organisations, local

:01:41.:01:41.

But, the system can be complicated and it is not

:01:42.:01:45.

Groups like East Riding Electric Eels, powerchair football team,

:01:46.:02:10.

And there's a worry putting up prices to cover the funding

:02:11.:02:14.

shortfall would force people out of sport.

:02:15.:02:16.

It costs a lot to be disabled, you can't just go out and buy

:02:17.:02:19.

a pair of football boots, you are looking at five, seven,

:02:20.:02:22.

?8,000 cheque to play sport, but this could be the only thing

:02:23.:02:24.

It's hard to stay in the sport because it costs so much money.

:02:25.:02:29.

Without the funding we would be not able to make disabled people live

:02:30.:02:32.

as much of a normal life as they can.

:02:33.:02:34.

Sport England is the public body that distributes funding

:02:35.:02:37.

Disabiliy Sport Humber is still hoping for changes that

:02:38.:02:41.

For now they're focusing on fundraising to bring

:02:42.:02:44.

Police believe a 63 year old man who died following a crash

:02:45.:02:49.

in North Lincolnshire may have suffered a "medical

:02:50.:02:51.

The white van he was driving crashed into a parked car

:02:52.:02:55.

on Thornton Road in Goxhill at around 11.30 yesterday morning.

:02:56.:02:57.

The road was closed off for most of the day

:02:58.:03:00.

and police are asking anyone who might have seen

:03:01.:03:02.

The east side foot path on the Humber Bridge will be

:03:03.:03:07.

closed on New Year's Day, to stop people using it as a viewing

:03:08.:03:10.

platform for the City of Culture fireworks display.

:03:11.:03:13.

Bridge officials say it's being done as a safety measure,

:03:14.:03:16.

as it can't cope with the hundreds or thousands of people who may turn

:03:17.:03:20.

up to view the fireworks over the Humber that evening.

:03:21.:03:22.

Anti-fracking protesters have set up a camp near a village in Yorkshire.

:03:23.:03:27.

It's close to Kirby Misperton, where the council's been given

:03:28.:03:31.

permission to extract gas using the controversial

:03:32.:03:32.

Last month, protesters had a judicial review of the decision

:03:33.:03:38.

The HGV traffic has to come this way, and we will do our upmost

:03:39.:03:44.

to peacefully, and slow-walk the traffic making its way

:03:45.:03:49.

to the site and to make it as difficult as possible for them

:03:50.:03:52.

Figures obtained by BBC Look North show that more than 10,000

:03:53.:03:57.

houses have been standing empty for six months or more

:03:58.:04:00.

That's despite thousands of people still being on housing

:04:01.:04:11.

Laura Foster has been looking at some of the ways

:04:12.:04:15.

From the smiles on their faces you wouldn't know that just a few months

:04:16.:04:20.

ago pregnant Stefanie was almost made homeless.

:04:21.:04:23.

Because I wasn't working they, all the private

:04:24.:04:27.

landlords said, that I needed at least ?1000 just to set up.

:04:28.:04:30.

Then, the council said that there was a six

:04:31.:04:33.

month waiting list minimum and that was a month before

:04:34.:04:36.

Thankfully for Stephanie and baby Hayden, they were helped by a

:04:37.:04:41.

charity in West Hull called Gyroscope, which fixes up homes so

:04:42.:04:45.

The amount of people we have coming to us for housing is immense.

:04:46.:04:51.

We can't help everybody but we try and

:04:52.:04:53.

There are more than three quarters of a

:04:54.:04:58.

million homes in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

:04:59.:05:00.

10,000 of them have been empty for more than six months.

:05:01.:05:05.

That is a better situation than how it was four years ago.

:05:06.:05:10.

There are now 260,00 fewer empty homes than

:05:11.:05:12.

There are financial incentives for councils to bring

:05:13.:05:17.

homes back into use which can be passed on to property developers.

:05:18.:05:21.

We are offering a grant of up to ?5,000, and encouragement to

:05:22.:05:24.

homeowners, or developers to bring that house onto the rental market.

:05:25.:05:35.

The idea is, for three years, the rent they are charging is an

:05:36.:05:38.

affordable rent, so it brings properties back onto the market at a

:05:39.:05:41.

And the hope is that, next year people won't

:05:42.:05:44.

Well, let's get the weather now with Jennifer Bartram. A cold and frosty

:05:45.:06:04.

night ahead. There is a yellow warning for fog. Eventually the

:06:05.:06:11.

file. To lift an break and we should see some brighter spells although

:06:12.:06:16.

some spots may well hang on to the fog. The top temperature of around

:06:17.:06:21.

three or four Celsius. Throughout the week things are generally

:06:22.:06:23.

settled penning windy towards the weekend.

:06:24.:06:30.

As we have seen today, the weather can be a thing of real beauty, but

:06:31.:06:45.

also a real menace. Lovely shot taken this afternoon in Berkshire,

:06:46.:06:51.

the sun lighting up the hillsides, with dense fog. And that fog is

:06:52.:06:55.

dangerous. It is becoming up right now, with warnings out from the Met

:06:56.:07:02.

Office. -- it is thickening right now. Not a pretty sight across

:07:03.:07:07.

England, East Wales tomorrow morning. Dense patches of freezing

:07:08.:07:14.

fog. Nor for all. Slippery surfaces. Take it easy on the roads. In the

:07:15.:07:18.

far north of England, and Scotland and Northern Ireland, not so chilly.

:07:19.:07:23.

And some drizzly rain across the Western Highlands and the islands.

:07:24.:07:27.

These continued through the day on a brisk wind. Elsewhere, the winds

:07:28.:07:30.

will be liked and that is

:07:31.:07:31.
