Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:11.:00:13.

The team behind Hull's year as UK City of Culture say it's

:00:14.:00:15.

going to welcome "more visitors than ever" - after 60,000

:00:16.:00:18.

people came into the city centre on its first day.

:00:19.:00:20.

As well as those watching the light and sound spectacular,

:00:21.:00:23.

organisers estimate tens of thousands also watched the huge

:00:24.:00:25.

fireworks show from along both banks of the Humber.

:00:26.:00:27.

Here's our culture correspondent, Anne-Marie Tasker.

:00:28.:00:37.

Hull's reign as UK City of Culture came in with a bang,

:00:38.:00:40.

as 15,000 fireworks exploded across the city's sky.

:00:41.:00:42.

25,000 people packed in, to see a show organisers promised

:00:43.:00:45.

would be bigger than London's on New Year's Eve.

:00:46.:00:54.

It was good to hear the Housemartins.

:00:55.:01:02.

I can't wait to see all the other events and I will certainly be

:01:03.:01:06.

going to a lot of them, great for the city.

:01:07.:01:08.

A lot of work must have gone into that and it is very impressive

:01:09.:01:11.

and good to see something so spectacular in Hull.

:01:12.:01:16.

But before the fireworks, another spectacle had

:01:17.:01:17.

For a week, Made in Hull will look back at a century

:01:18.:01:24.

of the city's history - the blitz, the dozens

:01:25.:01:28.

of trawlermen lost at sea and happier times like

:01:29.:01:30.

Hull City's Premier League promotion.

:01:31.:01:35.

There are lots of people and apparently there will be 8000

:01:36.:01:38.

people coming and going in the next couple of days and

:01:39.:01:41.

I can't wait to hear and see how the audience respond.

:01:42.:01:49.

Elsewhere, crowds experienced what it would be like to walk out

:01:50.:02:01.

onto the pitch at the Kcom stadium - experienced installations -

:02:02.:02:03.

and watched other films on some of the city's iconic buildings.

:02:04.:02:11.

When Hull won the City of Culture title three years ago,

:02:12.:02:13.

the City Council said it would bring an extra ?60 million into the city.

:02:14.:02:17.

Organisers hope an extra million visitors will come during 2017 -

:02:18.:02:20.

this opening event's got them off to a good start.

:02:21.:02:32.

The reaction has been hugely positive and it'll welcome more

:02:33.:02:35.

visitors than ever and it will change the city for the better

:02:36.:02:38.

as we look towards what we want the city to be in the future.

:02:39.:02:46.

Three and a half tonnes of fireworks got city of culture off

:02:47.:02:49.

to an explosive start - one organisers hope to maintain

:02:50.:02:51.

The East Midlands Ambulance Service which covers

:02:52.:03:05.

Lincolnshire says it's experienced its busiest

:03:06.:03:06.

Staff had to cut meal breaks last night to help cope with what's been

:03:07.:03:11.

described as an exceptional number of calls.

:03:12.:03:12.

EMAS says it received around 50% more 999 calls

:03:13.:03:14.

In the Lincolnshire derby at Gainsborough Trinity yesterday

:03:15.:03:18.

an injured Boston United player waited for two hours in the first

:03:19.:03:20.

aid room before being taken by car to hospital because no

:03:21.:03:23.

For him to be just laid in a room for two hours in his football kit

:03:24.:03:33.

with his ankle like that with no painkillers or anything,

:03:34.:03:35.

that could have had serious implications on his future,

:03:36.:03:38.

not just his footballing career but his normal life.

:03:39.:03:44.

We actually have more staff on than we normally would have.

:03:45.:03:47.

Over the last few days we have been receiving an unprecedented demand

:03:48.:03:51.

for the service and we have actually been receiving a 999

:03:52.:04:00.

Icy conditions have been blamed for more than 30 accidents

:04:01.:04:04.

This incident at Burton Waters was among dozens across the county,

:04:05.:04:07.

with incidents from Market Deeping to the Wolds.

:04:08.:04:09.

It's believed a downpour AFTER the roads had been gritted

:04:10.:04:12.

One of Lincolnshire's biggest planned new housing developments

:04:13.:04:18.

is to get "garden village" status from the government.

:04:19.:04:20.

OOV? The site to the south west of Grantham known

:04:21.:04:23.

as Spitalgate Heath will see almost 4,000 new homes built

:04:24.:04:25.

as well as schools, offices and a retail developments.

:04:26.:04:27.

Government money will go towards developing the new community,

:04:28.:04:30.

I think the town can grow and get a bit larger and attract

:04:31.:04:49.

new shops to the town centres and that is all good.

:04:50.:04:51.

It is probably going to get congested and affect everyone coming

:04:52.:04:54.

If you are building new villages are not prevailing amenities

:04:55.:04:58.

In today's football, Hull City were beaten 3-1

:04:59.:05:03.

by West Bromwich Albion despite taking the lead

:05:04.:05:05.

Robert Snodgrass put the Tigers ahead, before West Brom scored

:05:06.:05:09.

Scunthorpe United led until the 84th minute when Peterborough equalised.

:05:10.:05:14.

But Grimsby Town had a happier afternoon winning

:05:15.:05:16.

As time to check out the weather forecast. It will stay dry or mate

:05:17.:05:34.

with long, clear period so take care on the roads. Rudely it is down to

:05:35.:05:41.

-1. Tuesday looks a fine day and it will be moored in the way of clouds

:05:42.:05:46.

but never the less looking bright. Further spells of sunshine and quite

:05:47.:05:50.

a windy day so feeling chilly with the top temperature of around seven

:05:51.:05:55.

Celsius. Sunny Wednesday, broke Thursday with the risk of rain, that

:05:56.:05:57.

is the forecast. Good evening. It's been a dry and

:05:58.:06:10.

bright day across most parts of the country today. Despite the chilly

:06:11.:06:14.

feel to the weather, there has been some sunshine. Clear skies as the

:06:15.:06:24.

sun set in east Essex. With those clear skies around, temperatures are

:06:25.:06:28.

plummeting, particularly across southern parts. Here we

:06:29.:06:29.
