Welcome to Look North. Tonight: Sold for nearly 750 million. The | :00:07. | :00:10.
bank that almost collapsed. Now the Northern Rock name will be | :00:10. | :00:13.
consigned to history. It is good news for the North East. | :00:13. | :00:17.
It is good news for Newcastle. Under new ownership, Northern Rock | :00:17. | :00:23.
can go from strength to strength. Is there a glimmer of hope for the | :00:23. | :00:28.
Alcan plant? Could the Blues be on the move? | :00:28. | :00:32.
Speculation that Carlisle United may leave its Brunton Park ground | :00:32. | :00:35.
is growing. We are live at Lumiere, the | :00:35. | :00:37.
spectacular light show that's back in the North. | :00:37. | :00:41.
We take to the water with our latest Sportskid and the only way | :00:41. | :00:47.
is up for Kat as the world number one aims to bounce her way through | :00:47. | :00:57.
:00:57. | :01:04. | ||
Sold for 747 million, the Northern Rock has been bought by Virgin | :01:04. | :01:08.
Money. News of the deal which will mean no compulsory job cuts for the | :01:08. | :01:13.
next three years has been widely welcomed. Since the Rock was | :01:13. | :01:17.
nationalised in 2008, 3,000 jobs have gone but today there were | :01:17. | :01:22.
cheers at the bank's Newcastle headquarters from where Chris | :01:22. | :01:27.
Stewart joins us now. The taxpayer has taken a hit, | :01:27. | :01:30.
although it could have been worse. We must not forget those jobs that | :01:30. | :01:35.
have been lost, 3,000 of them, as you say. It is better news for our | :01:35. | :01:44.
region today. It's the kind of news we need. | :01:44. | :01:52.
Meeting the Minister and smiles all round. If you want to know what it | :01:52. | :01:57.
has been like here, you don't have to look far. The deal was kept | :01:57. | :02:04.
secret until this morning and then... A big woop! A cheer. Quite | :02:04. | :02:07.
a lot of shock because people weren't expecting to hear so soon. | :02:07. | :02:12.
On a Thursday as well. We usually here at the end of the week. | :02:13. | :02:16.
reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. There was an audible | :02:16. | :02:21.
cheer in the building when the news came out this morning. Staff are | :02:21. | :02:24.
delighted. They have every reason to be. It is a very good outcome | :02:24. | :02:28.
for the company, for staff and for the North East. The Minister has a | :02:28. | :02:32.
constituency in Hampshire but he just happens to be from the North | :02:32. | :02:36.
East. His parents still live in Durham. It is where I come from. It | :02:36. | :02:46.
:02:46. | :02:47. | ||
is where my roots are. You didn't want to get told off by your mum | :02:47. | :02:52.
and dad either?! No smiles four years ago. Customers queued to get | :02:52. | :02:55.
their money out of the Rock, those with shares didn't know what to do | :02:55. | :02:59.
for the best. Those who hung on to them lost the lot when the | :02:59. | :03:04.
Government took over. They have now gone to the European Courts looking | :03:04. | :03:09.
for compensation. I'm hopeful, the hedge funds have spent 5 million | :03:09. | :03:12.
on legal fees, they wouldn't be wasting their money unless they | :03:12. | :03:17.
thought they had a case. The pensioners who have lost everything, | :03:17. | :03:21.
they deserve to get compensation for having their assets for their | :03:21. | :03:25.
grandchildren taken off them without any say so. What about the | :03:25. | :03:30.
bloke who told the world that the Rock was on the rocks? The tragedy, | :03:30. | :03:38.
and it is a tragedy, is... Yes, him. Does he think Richard Branson can | :03:38. | :03:43.
take this new North East business to the top? Northern Rock when | :03:43. | :03:47.
combined with Virgin Money is still a small operation, perhaps a tenth | :03:47. | :03:52.
of the size of its main UK competitors. So at this stage, you | :03:52. | :03:58.
would see him as being a bit of a thorn in the side of the big banks | :03:58. | :04:02.
rather than somebody who is going to transform the banking landscape. | :04:02. | :04:06.
Virgin Money says it won't make any redundancies and in fact it wants | :04:06. | :04:11.
to open more branches. And the price? A good one, for everyone. | :04:11. | :04:16.
think we have made a really strong financial offer. We are also | :04:16. | :04:19.
committed to Newcastle and the North East and all of the great | :04:19. | :04:23.
people that I think have been brilliant in getting Northern Rock | :04:23. | :04:27.
to where it is today and creating a business that is so ripe for this | :04:27. | :04:32.
sort of move. So, praise for her new employees and she wasn't the | :04:32. | :04:37.
only one who wanted to reassure them. I really want to say to them, | :04:37. | :04:44.
you know, I know, everybody knows, this was not the fault of the | :04:44. | :04:47.
individual employees, especially at that level in the company. This was | :04:47. | :04:52.
about taking the wrong kind of banking model and applying it in | :04:52. | :04:57.
the wrong way and looking for short-term profits rather than | :04:57. | :05:02.
long-term sustainable business which will bring profits back to | :05:02. | :05:07.
the community and secure people's jobs. We are over the moon with it. | :05:07. | :05:14.
We think that the previous four years, the redundancies, 2,500, | :05:14. | :05:19.
3,000, to get stability back will be great. The criticisms will come, | :05:19. | :05:25.
sold too cheap, sold too late. But sold not at all? That was the | :05:25. | :05:28.
alternative. As well as the criticism, there | :05:28. | :05:32.
will be a certain amount of speculation as to why this deal is | :05:32. | :05:37.
going ahead now? Yes, there will. One theory doing the rounds is that | :05:37. | :05:41.
the Chancellor, George Osborne, sold the Rock now because he | :05:41. | :05:44.
expects the eurozone to get an awful lot worse very quickly. Then | :05:44. | :05:49.
he would find it very hard to sell. There is another theory, though, | :05:49. | :05:56.
slightly more fundamental. Richard Branson isn't the kind of chap who | :05:56. | :06:00.
would spend four years trying to buy a dud. | :06:00. | :06:04.
One of the first questions posed by the Virgin takeover is what will | :06:04. | :06:08.
happen to the Northern Rock Foundation? The charitable body has | :06:08. | :06:13.
supported good causes across the North East and Cumbria for 15 years. | :06:13. | :06:23.
In 2010 it distributed 12 million in grants. | :06:23. | :06:27.
Very few theatre groups have roles for people with learning | :06:27. | :06:29.
disabilities, but Headway Theatre does. That is the only | :06:30. | :06:33.
qualification for joining the group. Like thousands of charitable groups | :06:33. | :06:37.
in our region, they have had a helping hand from the Northern Rock | :06:37. | :06:41.
Foundation. The Northern Rock Foundation money has been crucial | :06:41. | :06:44.
to Seven Stars. They would be devastated if they lost the funding. | :06:44. | :06:49.
It is a big part of their lives. It is something that affects their | :06:49. | :06:53.
lives but they do a lot of work with younger learning-disabled | :06:53. | :07:00.
people so it is important that that kind role there for young people. | :07:00. | :07:05.
Since the Foundation was launched, more than 3,700 grants have been | :07:05. | :07:12.
awarded to more than 2,000 groups. It is from this converted chapel | :07:12. | :07:16.
that 220 million of charitable grants have been handed out in the | :07:16. | :07:20.
15 years since Northern Rock was demutualised and the new private | :07:20. | :07:23.
bank started handing over a proportion of its profits to the | :07:23. | :07:28.
charitable arm. There is still 30 million in the bank. The future | :07:28. | :07:32.
remains uncertain with the Virgin takeover of Northern Rock. | :07:32. | :07:36.
welcome the announcement. It is very important that we work | :07:36. | :07:40.
successfully with the new bank owners and they have already said | :07:40. | :07:43.
they are committing themselves a similar arrangement for the next | :07:43. | :07:47.
two years as we already had, but I think it is important that they | :07:47. | :07:50.
work in partnership with us and we are looking forward to discussing | :07:50. | :07:53.
how we can do that together. Thousands of community groups | :07:53. | :07:58.
across our region will hope that Virgin can work with the Northern | :07:58. | :08:05.
Rock Foundation. Now, to the other big industry | :08:05. | :08:08.
story dominating the news. The closure of the Alcan plant at | :08:08. | :08:11.
Lynemouth in Northumberland with the loss of hundreds of jobs. One | :08:11. | :08:15.
man who is not taking that news lying down is the Wansbeck MP Ian | :08:15. | :08:18.
Lavery. He says there may be credible interest from potential | :08:18. | :08:22.
buyers for the plant and he is calling on the company that runs it | :08:22. | :08:30.
to reveal who they are. The morning after the bombshell | :08:30. | :08:34.
before. But according to the local Northumberland MP, it doesn't have | :08:34. | :08:38.
to be the end for aluminium smelting here in Lynemouth. He | :08:38. | :08:43.
believes there are still buyers for the plant out there. And doubts the | :08:43. | :08:48.
company's dismissal of them as being not credible. What the unions | :08:48. | :08:53.
are wanting to know is who are these organisations who they deem | :08:54. | :08:59.
to be non-credible. If we can speak to those, if we can get financial | :08:59. | :09:04.
assistance from the Government, speak to the people who may be | :09:04. | :09:09.
interested, give them the views of the Government, who knows, we could | :09:09. | :09:13.
come up some sort of package that would maintain 650 well-paid jobs | :09:13. | :09:19.
here. Pressure on the plpbt's owner Rio Tinto to reconsider -- on the | :09:19. | :09:21.
plant's owner Rio Tinto to reconsider not ending the life of | :09:21. | :09:30.
the plant is also coming from the unions. It is bewildering, 60 | :09:30. | :09:37.
million out of the local economy, 100 million out of the regional | :09:37. | :09:45.
economy. There is an apparent growing fight to keep Alcan open. | :09:45. | :09:51.
This woman's two sons work at the plant. They are taking it better | :09:51. | :09:56.
than I thought they would. They have resigned themselves with all | :09:56. | :09:59.
the rumours that have been going around. They are worried how they | :09:59. | :10:05.
are going to pay their mortgage. One of them has been there 15 years, | :10:05. | :10:11.
the other 11. So, you know, it is sad. Meanwhile, the local economy | :10:11. | :10:18.
waits for the effects of any closure. The nearby angling shop is | :10:18. | :10:28.
:10:28. | :10:28. | ||
patronised by Alcan staff, as is the local takeaway. | :10:28. | :10:31.
Ian is here now. Do we know anything about the people who | :10:31. | :10:36.
expressed an interest in buying Alcan? Ian Lavery will be a | :10:36. | :10:39.
disappointed man. There were a number of businesses who were | :10:39. | :10:42.
interested but when it was explained to them by Rio Tinto the | :10:42. | :10:46.
problems with the plant, mainly rising energy costs, they walked | :10:46. | :10:49.
away. They also didn't have any finance in place. They hadn't | :10:49. | :10:53.
borrowed the money to buy the business. One of the companies did | :10:53. | :10:57.
visit Lynemouth but the proposal that it wanted to put on the table | :10:57. | :11:01.
was particularly onerous. So it wanted Rio Tinto to pay it to take | :11:01. | :11:07.
over the plant. It also wanted subsidies with energy costs, they | :11:07. | :11:13.
wanted subsidies with raw materials and they also wanted a big | :11:13. | :11:18.
Government subsidy. I think if Ian Lavery does discover who these | :11:18. | :11:27.
people are, he will be disappointed. Newcastle United footballer Nile | :11:27. | :11:29.
Ranger has appeared before magistrates on charges of assault | :11:29. | :11:34.
and being drunk and disorderly. The 20-year-old has denied two counts | :11:34. | :11:38.
of assault and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily | :11:38. | :11:44.
harm following an incident outside Cosy Joe's pub in Newcastle in | :11:44. | :11:48.
August. Ranger will re-appear before | :11:48. | :11:52.
magistrates on January 13th when the matters will be committed to | :11:52. | :11:57.
Crown Court. BBC Look North understands that | :11:57. | :12:00.
Carlisle United could be considering a move away from its | :12:00. | :12:04.
Brunton Park ground. The club commissioned a report into its | :12:04. | :12:07.
long-term future this summer and the results are expected to be | :12:07. | :12:11.
given to shareholders tonight. It is believed one option could be to | :12:11. | :12:16.
ask fans if they would support a move possibly to the Kingmoor area | :12:16. | :12:20.
of the city. Carlisle United are riding high on | :12:20. | :12:23.
the verge of the League One play- off places. The big talking about | :12:23. | :12:27.
in the city this week has been suggestions they could be looking | :12:27. | :12:31.
for a new home. BBC Look North understands that discussions have | :12:31. | :12:34.
taken place and that shareholders will hear tonight the results of a | :12:34. | :12:38.
feasibility study commissioned to look at the future of the club. So | :12:38. | :12:41.
far, Carlisle United have refused to comment saying only that | :12:41. | :12:45.
shareholders should be the first to know of any future plans. In | :12:45. | :12:49.
Carlisle today, most people seemed clear that a new ground would be a | :12:49. | :12:54.
good idea. A new stadium, as long as it doesn't cost them too much is | :12:54. | :13:01.
good. Might get in more supporters. They should stay where they are. | :13:01. | :13:05.
they are going to make a bigger stadium, they will make more money. | :13:05. | :13:13.
I suppose so. Brunton Park has been Carlisle United's home since 1909. | :13:14. | :13:18.
It survived a major fire in 1953 and the floods of 2005. Every | :13:18. | :13:25.
supporter who has been here will no doubt have a special memory. But | :13:25. | :13:29.
Brunton Park is an incongruous football ground. With the club at | :13:29. | :13:33.
the top end of League One it is clear promotion is a possibility. | :13:33. | :13:39.
Current rules are that all teams in the Championship must have all- | :13:39. | :13:46.
satisfyer ground -- all-seater grounds. United would have to | :13:46. | :13:56.
:13:56. | :13:56. | ||
There will be live reaction on Ian Timms' Breakfast Show on BBC Radio | :13:56. | :14:02.
Cumbria. So less than 24 hours to go before | :14:02. | :14:06.
the start of this year's Children in Need Appeal and more than 200 | :14:06. | :14:09.
children from Chester-le-Street have already been very busy | :14:09. | :14:19.
:14:19. | :14:22. | ||
rehearsing a song for a special The wet weather was probably the | :14:22. | :14:27.
only thing the TV crew couldn't control and with 200 school- | :14:27. | :14:34.
children about to arrive for a dress rehearsal, this was a full | :14:34. | :14:38.
BBC military operation. Just amazing being chosen to sing for | :14:38. | :14:43.
Children in Need. When we got told, everyone was so excited to be on TV. | :14:43. | :14:51.
They got off the buses, went inside, did a run-through of the song. Then | :14:51. | :14:57.
we got BBC Look North to come in and they did a small interview with | :14:57. | :15:06.
our teacher. Welcome to the Masonic Hall. In woman in charge is | :15:06. | :15:13.
Joycelyn McMullen. Who have we got here? We have got 120 students and | :15:13. | :15:22.
we have got over 102 students from the primary schools. So a lot of | :15:22. | :15:25.
local schools from Chester-le- Street that have come together to | :15:25. | :15:30.
sing music together, to raise money for Children in Need. It was the | :15:30. | :15:36.
first time we could see all the different primary schools. The Look | :15:36. | :15:41.
North people were really nice. Then we had a really good time and just | :15:42. | :15:51.
being on TV was good. Did you enjoy that? ALL: Yes! That was brilliant. | :15:51. | :15:55.
A nice round of applause for you all, I think. We found out we were | :15:55. | :16:00.
probably going to do the song about a month ago. We were all selected | :16:00. | :16:04.
because we do our choir anyway. When the opportunity came about we | :16:04. | :16:07.
thought we would do it because it sounded really good. I love the | :16:07. | :16:11.
song. It is a really good song, especially like for Children in | :16:11. | :16:21.
:16:21. | :16:23. | ||
Need. It's been really good and exciting. It's really fun getting | :16:23. | :16:27.
together with all the different schools. I will be very nervous | :16:27. | :16:33.
because it will be on live TV. I will probably end up being on the | :16:33. | :16:43.
:16:43. | :16:44. | ||
I hope they sleep tonight! If you want to watch the choir perform | :16:44. | :16:49.
their song tomorrow night, Children in Need coverage starts tomorrow | :16:49. | :16:54.
evening at 7.00pm on BBC One. How do you transform a city's familiar | :16:54. | :16:57.
landmark's into a vast art gallery? That is what they are trying to do | :16:57. | :17:03.
in Durham tonight with the launch of Lumiere. It is amazing. Mary | :17:03. | :17:12.
Askew is live there for us now. You have joined me at exactly the | :17:12. | :17:17.
right moment! Any minute now, all this noise is going to stop. The | :17:17. | :17:22.
Cathedral behind me is going to be lit up. At the same time, all | :17:22. | :17:28.
around the city of Durham more than 20 art installations are going to | :17:28. | :17:32.
sparkle into life. The celebrations started about three-quarters of an | :17:32. | :17:38.
hour ago when a parade of lanterns carried by over 200 children who | :17:38. | :17:43.
made them themselves, they are spectacular. They wandered through | :17:43. | :17:48.
the city's cobbled streets and made their way here to Palace Green. I | :17:48. | :17:52.
am joined by one of the Festival's programmers. Can you tell us a | :17:52. | :17:57.
little more about these lanterns that we are seeing? We wanted the | :17:57. | :18:00.
Festival, although it is an international festival, to start | :18:00. | :18:03.
really at home here in County Durham. So the children have been | :18:03. | :18:07.
working with artists from the Liverpool Lantern Company and local | :18:07. | :18:11.
artists to learn how to create these wonderful structures that | :18:11. | :18:15.
Durham is surrounded by the River Wear, so the inspiration is the | :18:15. | :18:22.
river. All the creatures are fish, herons... Tell us what else people | :18:22. | :18:28.
are going to be able to see around Durham in the next four days? | :18:28. | :18:38.
:18:38. | :18:38. | ||
have got 35 installations spread across the city. The Cathedral has | :18:38. | :18:43.
an enormous installation on the outside. But also a fire garden on | :18:43. | :18:47.
the inside using candles that people in cathedrals have used the | :18:47. | :18:51.
world over. There is an enormous amount to see. It sounds incredible. | :18:51. | :18:55.
What is your favourite? It is like choosing between your children - | :18:55. | :18:58.
you can't! I heard somebody say that it is like Blackpool! What do | :18:58. | :19:04.
you say to that? It was a posh Blackpool Illuminations. That is | :19:04. | :19:08.
pretty good. It is out to entertain, to make people think a bit and to | :19:08. | :19:14.
make them explore the city after dark. Thank you very much. I'm also | :19:14. | :19:20.
joined by Simon Henig. It's oftenly going to look good. What good is it | :19:20. | :19:28.
going to do for Durham? There are thousands on the street tonight in | :19:28. | :19:32.
Durham City that wouldn't normally be here. It is fantastic. The shops | :19:32. | :19:37.
and the bars are full. There's people queuing up. It will be a | :19:37. | :19:40.
tremendous economic boost. There have people that have travelled | :19:40. | :19:44.
from further afield and we have this for the next four nights. It | :19:44. | :19:48.
is tremendous. Thank you. If you would like to see more of these | :19:48. | :19:52.
fantastic installations, you can tune in tonight for the late Look | :19:52. | :19:56.
North. It looks amazing. | :19:56. | :20:01.
Nothing like Blackpool! Sport. By her own admission, she's | :20:01. | :20:05.
probably one of the least well- known world number ones in the | :20:05. | :20:07.
country. Kat Driscoll, who swapped Kent for the North East when she | :20:07. | :20:14.
was 18, is one of our best medal prospects for the London Olympics. | :20:14. | :20:17.
She is trying to keep her feet on the ground! | :20:17. | :20:23.
When Look North last featured Kat Driscoll she was ranked second best | :20:23. | :20:27.
woman trampolinist in the world. Now, the 25-year-old is looking | :20:27. | :20:31.
down from the highest perch hoping to qualify for the Olympics this | :20:31. | :20:35.
weekend. First, she has to reach the finals of the home World | :20:35. | :20:39.
Championships in Birmingham with the individual team and pair | :20:39. | :20:43.
competitions offering medal chances. Does her ranking put her under too | :20:43. | :20:47.
much pressure? What I have done this season has no relevance on the | :20:47. | :20:52.
competition that is coming up here. It proves I have been the most | :20:52. | :20:56.
consistent gymnast. It is exciting we have a group of five girls that | :20:56. | :21:03.
are doing fantastic. We have had different girls in the top eight. | :21:03. | :21:08.
It could be any one of us that goes to the Olympic Games. Kat will be | :21:08. | :21:11.
well supported. The North East is fantastic. It is the only place | :21:11. | :21:15.
that I have felt complete and utter true support from everybody in the | :21:15. | :21:18.
region. To the Championships this weekend, all the kids I train with | :21:18. | :21:23.
are coming down with their parents to support me. We have clubs with | :21:23. | :21:33.
:21:33. | :21:33. | ||
buses of kids coming down to support me. It's good being where | :21:33. | :21:43.
:21:43. | :21:44. | ||
I'm from. They love what I do. They are getting it out there. | :21:44. | :21:49.
As the build-up continues to Newcastle's top of the table clash | :21:49. | :21:55.
at Manchester City, news that Sammy Ameobi has signed a new three-and- | :21:55. | :21:59.
a-half year contract with the club. His manager has been speaking about | :21:59. | :22:06.
the decision to re-name St James' Park. For the traditionalists, it | :22:06. | :22:10.
is something that they are very upset at. It's still in the same | :22:10. | :22:16.
place. It's still the Gallowgate End. You still walk to the stadium | :22:16. | :22:20.
from the centre of town. It is where it is. Commercially, it will | :22:20. | :22:25.
attract a big sponsor, we hope, and give us extra revenue to go forward. | :22:25. | :22:28.
I can understand the arguments on both sides. | :22:28. | :22:33.
It's time for the latest in our Sportskids series. We meet a | :22:34. | :22:37.
youngster from Teesside who has shown he is willing to make | :22:37. | :22:45.
sacrifices for the sport he loves and that goes for his parents, too. | :22:45. | :22:55.
:22:55. | :23:01. | ||
My name is Kris. I'm 13. My sport It's a sport about power, skill and | :23:01. | :23:10.
speed. It helps if you can ignore the cold. It is just really fun | :23:10. | :23:14.
going down the big water and having the thrill and the adrenaline of | :23:14. | :23:19.
being able to go down the big drops and nail the moves. It feels good | :23:19. | :23:23.
when you can do that. He is quite strong. That's good for the sport. | :23:23. | :23:30.
It is short. It is a short distance. He is a sprinter. This year, Kris | :23:30. | :23:40.
:23:40. | :23:40. | ||
was select for the Team GB Under 14 squad. He shot through the | :23:40. | :23:45.
divisions and he's made the England team this year. That is good. | :23:45. | :23:51.
sounds quite like rapid progress? It is. Hopefully, it is to do with | :23:51. | :23:57.
me! Whether it is or not, we will see. It is down to Kris's | :23:57. | :24:01.
dedication. He will train three eveningings on a water after a | :24:01. | :24:05.
6.00am run. He has strength and conditioning training and travels | :24:05. | :24:09.
to competitions at weekends, all of which keeps his parents very busy. | :24:09. | :24:13.
All our hobbies have had to go by the by. Dad used to do a lot of | :24:13. | :24:18.
fishing. I used to do lots of other things. We have put it on hold. We | :24:18. | :24:24.
are willing to support him. Sometimes I will take a night off | :24:24. | :24:28.
and get the homework out of the way and I will do a circuit session at | :24:28. | :24:34.
home to improvise for not going canoeing. He has missed out on | :24:34. | :24:37.
birthday parties because he wants to canoe and get to where he wants | :24:37. | :24:43.
to be. It is fantastic to see. day, Kris hopes to compete at the | :24:43. | :24:48.
Olympics and so far he's navigating the course pretty well. | :24:48. | :24:52.
He's doing really well. If he keeps going like he will, who knows, the | :24:52. | :25:01.
going like he will, who knows, the sky is the limit. | :25:01. | :25:06.
He is dedicated. All eyes on tomorrow. It is the | :25:06. | :25:12.
yellow bear day. You will be wanting to know what | :25:12. | :25:18.
the weather is like for your fund- raising activities. Tomorrow, it | :25:18. | :25:22.
does look like we will have a wet start in Cumbria tomorrow morning. | :25:23. | :25:28.
It will stay very, very mild for the time of year. Talking of | :25:28. | :25:34.
animals, our focus goes from bears to birds. Paul on the road to | :25:34. | :25:39.
Gretna watching the starlings gather. He said it is not just | :25:39. | :25:49.
:25:49. | :25:49. | ||
starlings, it is a bit like a dolphin! Thank you very much. The | :25:50. | :25:55.
rain has already been piling in. It will turn quite heavy at times in | :25:55. | :26:01.
the west overnight. As it travels eastwards, it won't make too many | :26:01. | :26:06.
inroads into the North East. So tonight, with all the cloud, and | :26:06. | :26:12.
quite a brisk southerly wind, it will be a very mild night indeed. | :26:12. | :26:18.
Nowhere dropping below 6 or 7 Celsius. Into tomorrow, Children in | :26:18. | :26:23.
Need morning, a bit damp in Cumbria. Fine in the North East. Some early | :26:23. | :26:26.
brightness breaking through. That will be with you for the afternoon | :26:26. | :26:29.
in the North East. A particular interest in Beamish because that is | :26:29. | :26:36.
where we are having the big event. You will get the best of the | :26:36. | :26:45.
temperatures in the west as well. Highs of 15 Celsius. | :26:45. | :26:50.
Into the evening, for Paul, Pudsey, Colin and Charlie at Beamish, it | :26:50. | :26:57.
looks like it will be a fine evening. Then, of course, beyond | :26:57. | :27:02.
Friday, we are into the weekend. This weekend, both Saturday and | :27:02. | :27:06.
Sunday, are very similar. Mainly dry. We have the breeze coming up | :27:06. | :27:11.
from the south-west. That will keep it mild. There will be some bright | :27:11. | :27:17.
spells on both days. All in all, it is not looking like a bad forecast. | :27:17. | :27:22.
Here is a quick reminder of what we have in store. Still on the mild | :27:22. | :27:24. |
