Hello, welcome to Friday's Look North. Tonight — the end of a | :00:06. | :00:09.
ten—month nightmare. Heartfelt thanks from the family of | :00:09. | :00:20.
a little girl saved by a heart donor. | :00:20. | :00:22.
Guilty — the greedy couple convicted of wiping out an elderly dementia | :00:22. | :00:24.
sufferer's life savings. Banned for being noisy and a risk to | :00:24. | :00:28.
health and safety — the charity knitting group turfed out of their | :00:28. | :00:31.
meeting place by the Council. And lights down. Whitley Bay's | :00:31. | :00:34.
fourth annual Film Festival launches inside the town's famous Dome. | :00:34. | :00:38.
In sport — if you're a football fan, it's the weekend you've been waiting | :00:38. | :00:42.
for — the start of the new Premier League season. We'll ask our experts | :00:42. | :00:46.
what they can see in store for Sunderland and for Newcastle United. | :00:46. | :01:03.
The parents of a young heart transplant patient have opened their | :01:03. | :01:09.
hearts to look zero. About the audio that they and other parents have | :01:09. | :01:15.
faced. Nine—year—old Katelyn McAleavy received a new heart at | :01:15. | :01:21.
Newcastle's Freeman hospital five days ago. She is now out of | :01:21. | :01:25.
intensive care. The operation marked the end of a ten month wait for a | :01:25. | :01:29.
donor organ. Tired and a bit sore is how | :01:29. | :01:35.
Katelyn's mother described her daughter, which understanding —— | :01:35. | :01:40.
facility has had a heart hotspot operation, is good going. It was | :01:40. | :01:44.
late on Sunday night that the call they had been waiting for came | :01:44. | :01:49.
through. We got the phone call at ten o'clock to say that the | :01:49. | :01:53.
possibility had, but had Katelyn had anything to eat and had she been | :01:53. | :01:57.
poorly? Could be get down as quickly as possible. From ten o'clock to ten | :01:57. | :02:03.
past 11 I was sitting in an ambulance. It was an emotional | :02:03. | :02:09.
roller—coaster. Nervous, scared and it has all happened so fast. That is | :02:09. | :02:14.
what is keeping everybody going, that it has not sunk in yet. Amy and | :02:14. | :02:20.
Robert's Choi is tempered by a profound sense of gratitude to the | :02:20. | :02:24.
donor and their empathy for other families in similar situations. We | :02:24. | :02:30.
are sharing a flat with other families who have been in the ICU. | :02:30. | :02:34.
And some people's children are not doing so well. For us to have | :02:34. | :02:40.
Katelyn do as well she is doing, it is incredible. She is a little | :02:40. | :02:44.
fighter. You have to think of other children in the same position. But | :02:44. | :02:49.
they are not doing as well. And their families, they can't be as | :02:49. | :02:55.
happy as you want to be. But you have to pull yourself together and | :02:55. | :03:00.
be strong as a team. Katelyn seems to have had is accessible operation. | :03:00. | :03:07.
She is a zero —— she is already in a position to be sent down to the | :03:07. | :03:11.
cardiac ward to continue her recovery. We are delighted with her | :03:11. | :03:16.
progression. Whatever your personal feelings on organ donation it is not | :03:16. | :03:20.
until you come to the ward and you meet somebody like Katelyn that you | :03:20. | :03:23.
start to develop a true understanding of what it all means. | :03:23. | :03:40.
A couple have been found guilty of stealing their elderly godmother's | :03:40. | :03:46.
life savings. Teeside Crown Court heard how Lesley and Andrew Reeve | :03:46. | :03:51.
spending money on a lavish lifestyle while 90—year—old dementia sufferer | :03:51. | :03:53.
Joan Killen lived almost penniless in care home. | :03:53. | :03:59.
Over a period of two years, Teeside Crown Court were told how Lesley and | :03:59. | :04:03.
Andrew Reeve managed to reduce their godmother's life savings from | :04:04. | :04:09.
£130,000 to just £3000. Part of the cash was spent on converting their | :04:09. | :04:13.
garage at their home in Hartlepool into a gymnasium and wet room. In | :04:13. | :04:18.
court, the couple claimed that it was actually being prepared as a | :04:18. | :04:23.
bedroom for 91—year—old dementia sufferer Joan Killen food they had | :04:23. | :04:26.
promised would be able to live with them when she was well enough to | :04:26. | :04:32.
leave the Queens Meadow care home in Hartlepool. But suspicions were | :04:32. | :04:35.
aroused when it was discovered that Mrs Killen had left with so little | :04:35. | :04:39.
money —— had been left with so little money that she had no pocket | :04:39. | :04:44.
money or money to pay her fees. An investigation by Hartlepool Council | :04:44. | :04:53.
found that the reason couple had been able to clear their credit card | :04:53. | :04:58.
debts, bought a new car and what —— bought electrical goods as well. | :04:58. | :05:04.
They said throughout that the home conversions well for Mrs Killen's | :05:04. | :05:09.
benefit. That was not the case, a wheelchair would not have even | :05:09. | :05:14.
fitted in the shower. Today, a jury found Andrew Reeve guilty of two | :05:14. | :05:19.
counts of theft between 2009 and 2011 and his wife guilty of three | :05:19. | :05:25.
counts. The case has been adjourned pending reports. | :05:25. | :05:29.
A mining company, test—drilling in the North Pennines, says the area | :05:29. | :05:32.
could hold some of the largest zinc deposits in Europe. So far, five | :05:32. | :05:36.
bore holes have been sunk by the Canadian firm Minco Mining near | :05:36. | :05:40.
Allenheads and Nenthead. Managers say the core samples recovered so | :05:40. | :05:43.
far suggest the area holds zinc deposits worth hundreds of millions | :05:43. | :05:47.
of dollars. The Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has been mined since | :05:47. | :05:55.
Roman times, mainly for lead. In some parts of the community, there | :05:55. | :06:00.
would be a lot of enthusiasm for more mineral extraction in this part | :06:00. | :06:03.
of the country because it is part of the continuum and what we obviously | :06:03. | :06:10.
hope in the current state and age is that the environmental standards | :06:10. | :06:12.
would have to be applied and it would not have such a detrimental | :06:12. | :06:20.
impact on the environment. Three years ago, the council asked | :06:20. | :06:25.
them to set up a missing group at a local library. The same council has | :06:25. | :06:29.
opened a new library and told them to get out. The knitters have said | :06:29. | :06:34.
that their charity work is in danger of being undone. So they have gone | :06:34. | :06:38.
to the new library in Cramlington in Northumbria to make their feelings | :06:38. | :06:41.
known. This one, part one, and now they | :06:41. | :06:45.
have been told to do one because there is too many of them to squeeze | :06:45. | :06:50.
in. That's what the council told us. They have been told they are not | :06:50. | :06:54.
wanted because they are too noisy and that their knitting needles | :06:54. | :06:58.
could cope —— could pose a health hazard. How old are you? 85?Have | :06:58. | :07:06.
you ever stabbed yourself while listening? No.Are you a health and | :07:06. | :07:15.
safety risk? Well, sometimes!Best not to ask. Anyway, everything they | :07:15. | :07:19.
make is for the NHS. Cuddly toys for children and other staff, some of it | :07:19. | :07:27.
is not very obvious. This is for a premature baby. You cannot buy stuff | :07:27. | :07:33.
this small indie shops. These are ladies' thingies. They have made | :07:34. | :07:39.
many of these all round the country to teach new mothers about | :07:39. | :07:43.
breast—feeding. And this, I'm not going to show you. It is a uterus | :07:44. | :07:50.
made to teach midwives. Picking on a bunch of mainly made of grannies is | :07:50. | :07:53.
not going to win the council any sympathy, not even from one of their | :07:54. | :07:58.
own councillors. It is unbelievable that the county council can take a | :07:58. | :08:01.
group which is successful and doing lots of things in the community and | :08:01. | :08:06.
penalised them for being successful by throwing them out of what is | :08:06. | :08:11.
meant to be a community library. The council did say they could stay if | :08:11. | :08:14.
they split into smaller groups but the knitters say that defeats the | :08:14. | :08:17.
whole purpose of the group. Everything we know it goes out | :08:17. | :08:23.
somewhere and I feel it is sad that we are trying to do the best that we | :08:23. | :08:31.
can and it is just disappointing. Very disappointing. It is an old | :08:31. | :08:45.
yarn and one yet to fully unravel. Can't pull the wool over his eyes! | :08:45. | :08:52.
Still to come, the mistakes on the future of our football teams. | :08:52. | :08:56.
And the stones from a building which will end up in a rockery. | :08:56. | :09:02.
And I would have the full weather forecast for the weekend and next | :09:02. | :09:17.
week. Spat —— Whitley Spanish city's Dome | :09:18. | :09:26.
will become a cinema. The gala night is going to start with the Ingrid | :09:26. | :09:31.
Bergman and Humphrey Bogart classic, Casablanca. Are they going | :09:31. | :09:36.
to play it again? Yeah, you will be glad to hear that | :09:36. | :09:41.
I will not be singing tonight. We have all the atmosphere Casablanca | :09:41. | :09:47.
here. We are only just up the road. It is the start of the Whitley Bay | :09:47. | :09:53.
Film Festival. Casablanca playing tonight. Lots of other films as | :09:53. | :09:59.
well. Let's talk to Ema Lea, the director of the film Festival. | :09:59. | :10:04.
Tellers will be can expect? We have turned the Spanish city Dome, this | :10:04. | :10:09.
beautiful building, into a multiplex. It is a fantastic | :10:09. | :10:12.
opportunity we have been given by the council. There will be about six | :10:12. | :10:18.
films a day and we were also be doing other things. Tell me about | :10:18. | :10:22.
this concept of a secret Cinema. People will be mystified. Clues as | :10:22. | :10:31.
to what will be screen and where it will be screened will be given over | :10:31. | :10:35.
the website. It is a popular event even though people don't know what | :10:35. | :10:39.
they are going to sea but it will be a real treat this year. This is a | :10:39. | :10:44.
sell—out tonight. Our tickets going well for the other productions? | :10:44. | :10:50.
Yes. The key thing is that people dress up for this to get into the | :10:50. | :10:53.
part. Ingrid Bergman, you never thought you would see her on Look | :10:54. | :10:58.
North. Tracy, can I be New Year. Looking fantastic tonight, what | :10:58. | :11:02.
difference does it make getting into the part as Mac it is very | :11:02. | :11:10.
experiential. The Whitley Bay Film Festival is very experiential | :11:10. | :11:13.
services differed —— different from the usual. I haven't seen Humphrey | :11:13. | :11:19.
Bogart yet? He is around here somewhere. And there are time | :11:19. | :11:22.
travellers and allsorts of characters. That is what we want. | :11:22. | :11:28.
Excellent. Thank you very much. This festival carries on until September | :11:28. | :11:34.
the 5th. Do try to get a ticket. Apologies to Mr Bogarde. Maybe not | :11:34. | :11:40.
today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon. —— apologies to Mr Humphrey Bogart. | :11:40. | :11:48.
Here's looking at you, Jeff. History lovers flock to York to only | :11:49. | :11:54.
priceless piece of the city. Masonry from the York Minster has been | :11:54. | :11:57.
auctioned to continue the conservation programme. Visitors | :11:57. | :12:00.
could learn about the craftsmen working at the Cathedral and Beth —— | :12:00. | :12:05.
by some of its old stone. For some people, the humble garden | :12:05. | :12:09.
gnome is not enough and for those wanting something a bit more special | :12:09. | :12:13.
and a bit of history in their Rockaway, York Minster was the place | :12:13. | :12:20.
to be. I have got £40... I need a nice feature for in front of the | :12:20. | :12:24.
pond in the back garden. And a bit of history as well. I very much like | :12:24. | :12:28.
the gargoyles and I think that will be really nice to put in the garden | :12:29. | :12:33.
and have as a feature. I am yet to pick a piece up for my husband for a | :12:33. | :12:37.
wedding present next year. —— my husband to be. The minister was | :12:37. | :12:44.
built to last but when new bits added, some old bits can find a | :12:44. | :12:48.
home. Eventually, we have too many bits of stone. They are in storage | :12:48. | :12:53.
but obviously limited storage and there comes a point when we have two | :12:53. | :12:58.
put it somewhere. The best ways for other people to the stone and | :12:58. | :13:03.
provide monies for future restoration. This piece I am sat on | :13:03. | :13:11.
it from the front of York Minster. We have been thinking of a few ideas | :13:11. | :13:15.
for it. We think it would be a lovely seat. It is probably the best | :13:15. | :13:20.
selection we have had for a stone auction in the time that I have been | :13:20. | :13:24.
year doing them. We have a lot of repeat customers who have got stones | :13:24. | :13:29.
already in the garden and a comeback for some more. Rebecca jokingly | :13:29. | :13:35.
tweeted today that this could be used as a medieval Jacuzzi. Somebody | :13:36. | :13:39.
else said that it could be your own personal Stonehenge. Whoever buys it | :13:39. | :13:44.
will struggle to get it on the back of a hatchback! | :13:44. | :13:52.
Time for sport. Marcus has had his crystal ball out. More will be | :13:52. | :13:55.
revealed. Love it or loathe it, football's | :13:55. | :13:58.
Premier League is back. Last season, our two clubs Sunderland and | :13:59. | :14:01.
Newcastle flirted with relegation. But what about this time? A new | :14:01. | :14:05.
director of football on Tyneside — a brand—new team on Wearside. We'll | :14:05. | :14:08.
hear from the managers and the fans in a moment. But first our BBC radio | :14:08. | :14:11.
commentators peer through the crystal ball. | :14:11. | :14:23.
Nick, it has been a risky summer at the Stadium Of Light, is a risky | :14:23. | :14:26.
policy that Paolo Di Canio has undertaken? Without doubt, but he | :14:26. | :14:32.
will say it is a calculated risk. He believes all the players are quality | :14:32. | :14:36.
players, they have the ability to withstand the rigours of the Premier | :14:36. | :14:41.
League. You have to trust Paolo Di Canio. He has done his homework. For | :14:41. | :14:46.
all the business that has been done in the transfer market for | :14:46. | :14:49.
Sunderland at this summer, there has been virtually none for Newcastle. | :14:49. | :14:54.
Absolutely. So quiet, it has almost been untrue. They are just about the | :14:54. | :15:00.
only Premier League who has not made a permanent signing. Loic Remy they | :15:00. | :15:04.
wanted previously, but they desperately need another striker | :15:04. | :15:08.
before September the 2nd. Fans are disappointed with the level of | :15:08. | :15:13.
activity. Yes, they brought players in January and the squad is stronger | :15:13. | :15:16.
but there should have been more activity to date. So plenty of | :15:16. | :15:22.
business and signings, which really excites you? I think the new player | :15:22. | :15:28.
is going to be the one everyone is going to be watching, an established | :15:28. | :15:34.
international. A marquee signing. The Italian player. There will also | :15:34. | :15:42.
be in —— eyes on the USA newcomer. If he can take his form into the | :15:42. | :15:47.
league. Bearing in mind the lack of transfer activity, who is going to | :15:47. | :15:53.
stand out for Newcastle? And offer is the key. He is the one player who | :15:53. | :15:58.
could do something. But they are a good squad, stronger than they were | :15:58. | :16:05.
two years ago. The 16th of last season, they had an awful lot to | :16:05. | :16:10.
do. The downside of the summer has been as a result of the field | :16:10. | :16:15.
activity. The jokingly abolishment, etc. —— the Roy Kinnear appointment. | :16:15. | :16:28.
Top half, Sunderland? They would hope to be, but they have to be | :16:28. | :16:32.
realistic with all the changes they have made. With a list of home games | :16:32. | :16:38.
after Christmas, it could quite be debilitating —— it could be quite | :16:38. | :16:41.
debilitating when they go into the second half of the season playing | :16:41. | :16:45.
catch up. Anything above 15th would be a bonus. | :16:45. | :16:48.
Sunderland head coach Paolo Di Canio, who's preparing for | :16:48. | :16:51.
tomorrow's visit of Fulham, says sorting out the bedroom habits of | :16:51. | :16:54.
his players could help their season. They won't be allowed single hotel | :16:54. | :16:58.
rooms at away games and will have to share with a different team—mate on | :16:58. | :17:01.
every trip, as Peter Harris explains. | :17:01. | :17:08.
Plenty of bonding on the pitch, but for footballers, the new season will | :17:08. | :17:13.
bring long nights in far—flung hotel rooms. For Sunderland, they will | :17:13. | :17:19.
always have company. If we did have a chance to sleep together, of the | :17:19. | :17:26.
knot in the same bed, then they will change that every weekend. The | :17:26. | :17:32.
people. Because they can have more confidence on the field to give | :17:32. | :17:38.
advice. Home comforts tomorrow for the season's opener against Darren | :17:38. | :17:44.
Bent's new club, full. Paolo Di Canio says he knows most of his new | :17:44. | :17:49.
club with the new signing from America to make his debut. It is not | :17:49. | :17:54.
clear who will take over from Simon linearly in goal. The manager was in | :17:55. | :18:00.
talkative mood which —— at the press conference which took almost as long | :18:00. | :18:06.
as the game tomorrow will. I don't know why, someone recognises me and | :18:06. | :18:11.
then another 50 people around me. Women with kids, it was even more | :18:11. | :18:20.
something special. It surprised me. And then I said, if you do this now, | :18:20. | :18:24.
when I didn't win nothing for this club, what will you do at the end of | :18:24. | :18:28.
the season when we have made a special thing? | :18:28. | :18:33.
And BBC Newcastle has full match commentary with Nick Barnes and Gary | :18:33. | :18:36.
Bennett from the Stadium Of Light tomorrow from 2pm. | :18:36. | :18:39.
Newcastle are away at Manchester City on Monday night. They're | :18:39. | :18:42.
missing their only summer signing so far due to injury but manager Alan | :18:42. | :18:45.
Pardew was talking a good story this lunchtime. | :18:45. | :18:55.
A relaxed but businesslike atmosphere on the training ground. | :18:56. | :19:00.
No sign of Loic Remy, the lone striker whose calf injury means he | :19:00. | :19:03.
will not stop proper training until next week. But after the Cisse shirt | :19:03. | :19:10.
row, this message from the manager. We can go forward now and hopefully | :19:10. | :19:15.
have a season like we had two years ago. The impact of the Roper league, | :19:15. | :19:22.
was significant for us, I said. —— de Europa League. We will be far | :19:22. | :19:27.
better because of not having the pressure this year. We need to | :19:27. | :19:30.
strengthen again but the size of the squad is good. One will two more | :19:31. | :19:35.
players would be perfect. Joe Boswell position here is to make | :19:35. | :19:41.
sure that the transfers coming. —— Job's position. He has taken over | :19:41. | :19:46.
the job. So far, it is working OK. What about Darren Bent who has | :19:46. | :19:54.
signed on for the Black Cats opening—day opponents, full. He was | :19:54. | :19:59.
close, in terms of the deal, but Darren has decided that his future | :19:59. | :20:04.
lies elsewhere and we wish him all the luck in the world. A fascinating | :20:04. | :20:08.
looking season. In the Championship, Middlesbrough | :20:08. | :20:11.
host Blackpool. BBC Tees Ali Brownlee and Neil Maddison will have | :20:11. | :20:14.
commentary from 2PM. Fans of both clubs will unite to show support for | :20:14. | :20:17.
their former full—back Gary Parkinson with a minute's applause | :20:17. | :20:20.
in the 25th minute. Gary suffers from locked—in syndrome after a | :20:20. | :20:24.
stroke in 2010. In League One, Carlisle look for | :20:24. | :20:28.
their first win at home to Coventry. In League Two, there's a derby at | :20:28. | :20:32.
Bootham Crescent as York City host Hartlepool. | :20:32. | :20:41.
On to cricket, and there was deep disappointment for Durham last | :20:41. | :20:44.
night. They collapsed to 110 all out in their YB40 match at Derbyshire, | :20:44. | :20:47.
losing by 107 runs. It's their second defeat in the competition | :20:47. | :20:50.
inside three days, and means they can't now qualify for the | :20:50. | :20:56.
semi—finals. What a shame. Now, back to football. | :20:56. | :21:01.
We have heard from the managers and the pundits. What about the fans? | :21:01. | :21:05.
For them, the long wait is almost over. With the new season | :21:05. | :21:09.
beckoning, we have been getting under the skin of what it feels like | :21:09. | :21:13.
to be an assessor supporter, someone who lives and breathes for their | :21:13. | :21:16.
beloved team. We have from two Sunderland diehards | :21:16. | :21:21.
last night but tonight we have from Anthony Nicholson a Newcastle die | :21:21. | :21:28.
hard. He gives us the take on Toon Love. | :21:28. | :21:39.
What is a football club? Is the —— is it the directors, is it the | :21:39. | :21:51.
money? No, it is the experience, as a boy being brought by your father, | :21:51. | :21:55.
looking at the hallowed turf, feeling the passion and sense of | :21:55. | :22:02.
belonging. Football is a great leveller. Yoga is a window cleaner, | :22:02. | :22:07.
a postman, a decorator, Dickie the chemist who sits down in front of | :22:07. | :22:11.
you, Gary the car salesmen, mad mate, Robson Green and his dad. | :22:12. | :22:18.
People from television. They are lookalikes, but that is what they | :22:18. | :22:25.
have been named. I often think, what on earth are you doing here? Why are | :22:25. | :22:31.
you doing this ridiculous ritual? Sundays can be a clean shave for us, | :22:31. | :22:36.
or a non—shave. Sometimes it is beans on toast, other times it is | :22:36. | :22:40.
beans on toast with a fried egg on top. Sometimes it is leaving with a | :22:40. | :22:45.
piece of fruit, sometimes a carrot. It makes no sense. The neighbours | :22:45. | :22:50.
must think I am crazy. The carrot came about because one day there was | :22:50. | :22:55.
not an apple or a banana. So I appealed a carrot, wanting to go out | :22:55. | :22:59.
with a piece of veg. So I stood at the bus stop with a carrot. And we | :22:59. | :23:04.
won that day. So the next time we played at home, I had a carrot peels | :23:04. | :23:12.
and ready to eat. —— carrot peels and ready to eat. The first Darren | :23:12. | :23:18.
Peacock goal went in in front of us and it was a moment of good grief, | :23:18. | :23:24.
we are beating Man United! And then we smacked in a second. It was | :23:24. | :23:28.
unbelievable. I have never felt anything like it. The second half, | :23:28. | :23:32.
Shearer, Ferdinand, tall Man United apart. And then a shot that was | :23:32. | :23:41.
heading off into the top rope but seemed to dip and then went in. It | :23:41. | :23:57.
was immense. Cisse being offside at a lot. His last—minute goal here | :23:57. | :24:03.
helps. One against Fulham, one against Stoke. But that awful tackle | :24:03. | :24:09.
on another player seemed to knock the whole player —— team and it | :24:09. | :24:23.
ruined the feeling. The buzz and the optimism is always there. I have got | :24:23. | :24:28.
to say that it has waned somewhat. The high prices, the transfers, it | :24:28. | :24:33.
is almost impossible to compete. We are not active in the transfer | :24:33. | :24:36.
market for the second year running. You wonder how that is going to pan | :24:36. | :24:42.
out. When Swansea city and Cardiff City are spending £20 million and | :24:42. | :24:46.
Cardiff —— and Newcastle have got one player on loan, you wonder what | :24:46. | :24:54.
it is about. This football club, our history, our identity, our culture, | :24:54. | :25:02.
will always be here. There's dedication for you. | :25:02. | :25:08.
Of course, the first weekend of the football season usually means short | :25:08. | :25:09.
sleeves, but not this weekend? Not at first. A wet start. Here is | :25:09. | :25:20.
his first photograph. They bumble bee covered in pollen. The focus is | :25:20. | :25:26.
on sunshine on Sunday. A wet Saturday, though. Through this | :25:26. | :25:31.
evening, a little rain at first. One or two showers and then drive the | :25:31. | :25:36.
rest of the night. Cloud will thicken in the night. Ray will be | :25:36. | :25:39.
driven in on strong beaters from the south—west. —— rain will be driven | :25:40. | :25:46.
in. Strong breezes from the south—west. By the time we wake up, | :25:46. | :25:52.
a gloomy start of the J. Grey with increasing amounts of rain. —— a | :25:52. | :26:01.
gloomy start to the day. As we take a tour through the afternoon | :26:01. | :26:05.
tomorrow, it is pretty unsettled. Strong breezes up to around 20 mph. | :26:06. | :26:11.
Unseasonably strong those August winds. Doctor Richards 19 of 20 | :26:11. | :26:18.
Celsius. Surprisingly mild considering the lack of sunshine. | :26:18. | :26:27.
Still raining heavily over much of Lake land. Possibly some dry spells | :26:27. | :26:32.
to the West in the afternoon. Things will swiftly improve for the rest of | :26:32. | :26:35.
the weekend. That weather system moves away to the east, leaving a | :26:35. | :26:41.
scattering showers on Sunday. Notice the isobars separating and they | :26:41. | :26:49.
bring lighter breezes as well as more sun. Let's take a look. We can | :26:49. | :26:53.
see high pressure building to the south. That is usually a good sign. | :26:53. | :26:59.
It will bring better weather across Cumbria. Things will swiftly improve | :26:59. | :27:04.
after Saturday's rainfall. Brighter skies for the second half of the | :27:04. | :27:08.
weekend and into Monday. In the North East, very similar. After a | :27:08. | :27:13.
wet and gloomy end to Saturday, Sunday and Monday looked likely to | :27:13. | :27:18.
bring much better weather. We could get some rain overnight on Tuesday | :27:18. | :27:21.
but for much of next week, the last full week of the school holidays for | :27:21. | :27:25.
thousands of children, we are looking forward to that high | :27:25. | :27:29.
potentially bringing us some long spells of settled weather. | :27:29. | :27:36.
We look forward to that. The late news and weather at 10:35pm. | :27:36. | :27:41.
Goodbye. —— 1020 5pm. | :27:41. | :27:47. |
