Hello, welcome to Friday's Look North. In the programme tonight: | :00:00. | :00:09.
Fire breaks out at a huge biomass facility on Tyneside. | :00:09. | :00:12.
Around 50 emergency personnel are there, we're live with the latest. | :00:13. | :00:17.
Nissan announces 400 new jobs — and the Deputy Prime Minister says | :00:17. | :00:20.
Government plans will create more employment in the North East. | :00:20. | :00:23.
The derelict care home that residents claim is a death trap. | :00:23. | :00:29.
End of the story. Nine libraries in Sunderland will close, but | :00:29. | :00:31.
protestors decide to write their own epilogue. | :00:31. | :00:35.
And a multi million pound grant promises to restore this theatre to | :00:35. | :00:45.
its full glory. It is a weekend off from many | :00:45. | :00:49.
footballers, but pulling off his boots last night was an England | :00:49. | :00:53.
football star swapping his boots for charity. | :00:53. | :01:02.
Teams of firefighters are at the scene of a blaze at a biomass store | :01:02. | :01:08.
on South Tyneside. Around 50 fire crew are involved. The fire broke | :01:08. | :01:18.
out this afternoon in the biomass fuel storage facility at the Port of | :01:18. | :01:21.
Tyne in Jarrow. It's the second time there's been a major incident there. | :01:21. | :01:25.
We can go now to our reporter, Peter Harris, for the latest. | :01:25. | :01:40.
This is one of those occasions the pictures don't tell the story | :01:40. | :01:45.
because it is happening inside. At its height, there have been 50 | :01:45. | :01:50.
firefighters. To give you an idea of the scale, we are talking about an | :01:50. | :01:54.
area the size of two football pitches. It involves wooden pellets | :01:54. | :01:59.
and it broke out in South Shields at around 3pm this afternoon. As you | :01:59. | :02:05.
mentioned there, it is not the first significant fire here in recent | :02:05. | :02:10.
years. There was a fire two years ago other biomass plant. That took | :02:10. | :02:15.
24 hours to put out, so we will see if this one is on that scale. I can | :02:15. | :02:20.
bring you some significant news which is that time and we're fire | :02:20. | :02:24.
and rescue are telling us that no personnel were involved. We take | :02:24. | :02:29.
from that that there were no injuries. They say that it is now | :02:29. | :02:37.
well under control. It seems it was a big fire, but it appears there | :02:37. | :02:42.
have been no injuries. The Deputy Prime Minister, Nick | :02:42. | :02:45.
Clegg, has been on Tyneside today, promoting the success of the | :02:45. | :02:47.
Government's Regional Growth Fund.It was a good day to visit, because it | :02:47. | :02:51.
came at the same time as Nissan, a former beneficiary of the fund, | :02:51. | :02:55.
announced 400 new jobs. It's the latest expansion at the | :02:55. | :02:59.
plant, which is moving to 24 hour working for the first time in its | :02:59. | :03:02.
history Nissan is introducing a third shift to cope with demand for | :03:02. | :03:06.
the new—look Note, which it began building last month. | :03:06. | :03:09.
The new recruits will allow round—the—clock production to begin | :03:09. | :03:13.
from early next year and take the headcount at the plant to more than | :03:13. | :03:17.
6,500. Some welcome positive jobs news for | :03:17. | :03:20.
the region which continues to have the highest unemployment rate in the | :03:20. | :03:24.
country. And, after the Prime Minister's visit to York yesterday, | :03:24. | :03:27.
it was the Deputy Prime Minister's turn to visit the region. He was | :03:27. | :03:31.
visiting firms on Tyneside which have benefited from the Government's | :03:31. | :03:34.
Regional Growth Fund, which aims to help job creation in the private | :03:34. | :03:37.
sector. And he revealed that the Fund's being expanded. Richard | :03:37. | :03:42.
Thomas reports. He was here to see the biggest of | :03:42. | :03:46.
its kind in the world. This site used to be the naval yard at Walker | :03:46. | :03:50.
on the Tyne. Now it houses this giant — building the nerve centre | :03:50. | :03:54.
for rigs and vessels offshore. 168 new jobs here, paid for, in part, b | :03:54. | :04:04.
taxpayer. Just looked behind me, this company | :04:04. | :04:08.
has been able to build this fantastic installation here in the | :04:08. | :04:14.
north—east. They are going to create hundred and 60 new jobs and protect | :04:14. | :04:18.
another 90 new jobs that would have been at risk. We need to get behind | :04:18. | :04:24.
things like this to create and protect new jobs. The most important | :04:24. | :04:29.
objective of all is jobs. The company's received £3.6 million | :04:29. | :04:32.
from the regional growth fund — one of the coalition's flagship | :04:32. | :04:35.
policies. And this business, says Mr Clegg, is a great example of how tax | :04:35. | :04:39.
payer money is being used to support private sector schemes. Last year | :04:39. | :04:43.
however, the National Audit Office said too much cash had been spent on | :04:43. | :04:47.
schemes with too few jobs coming in return. | :04:47. | :04:50.
But the government says for every £1 of tax money given to firms, £6 has | :04:50. | :04:54.
come in from the private sector It's so far spent £2 billion on the job | :04:54. | :04:58.
scheme and today pledged to spend another £300m. The new workers here | :04:58. | :05:09.
aren't complaining. It is possible that this investment | :05:09. | :05:12.
has helped the company employ more people. To build up the pool of | :05:13. | :05:18.
knowledge which will be used to develop technology further because | :05:18. | :05:21.
we are going into harsher environments to get the oil and gas | :05:21. | :05:23.
out. Whether this taxpayer backed job | :05:23. | :05:26.
scheme was worth it is a judgement for the future. But it has had a | :05:26. | :05:32.
tangible benefit on Tyneside. And we had another political big gun | :05:32. | :05:36.
paying us a visit today too. The leader of the Labour party, Ed | :05:36. | :05:39.
Miliband, came to the Baltic Art Gallery in Gateshead where he spoke | :05:39. | :05:43.
to industrialists at the North East Economic Forum, before heading on to | :05:43. | :05:46.
Stockton to talk to small business owners. Mr Miliband said his party | :05:46. | :05:49.
offers the best way to help the region's economy. It is only Labour | :05:49. | :06:01.
talking about the biggest issues facing families, which is the cost | :06:01. | :06:06.
of living. That is why we have set out plans to freeze energy bills, to | :06:06. | :06:12.
cut small business rate, that is a massive burden on so many small | :06:12. | :06:17.
businesses across its region. Also to get our young people working | :06:17. | :06:21.
again. All of those things will help the north—east economy. | :06:21. | :06:28.
Northumbria Police have launched an investigation after seeing footage | :06:28. | :06:32.
of a fight in Newcastle city centre. It's understood to have taken place | :06:32. | :06:35.
last month on Newgate Street. The footage shows a man, thought to be a | :06:35. | :06:39.
bouncer, fighting with another man. What happens next is too violent to | :06:39. | :06:44.
show. Officers want the victim of the assault to contact them. They | :06:44. | :06:47.
say a 30—year—old man has already been interviewed in connection with | :06:47. | :06:50.
the incident. Police have arrested five men on | :06:50. | :06:53.
suspicion of murder after a man's body was found in the Branksome area | :06:53. | :06:57.
of Darlington. The body was discovered by a member of the public | :06:57. | :07:03.
in a wooded area on Monday. Although no formal identification's been | :07:03. | :07:06.
made, police are progressing the investigation on the basis that the | :07:06. | :07:09.
body is that of Alan Youngson, who went missing in August. The five men | :07:09. | :07:13.
arrested are aged between 28 and 38 and all are local. | :07:13. | :07:16.
Part of Scarborough town centre was cordoned off earlier today in a | :07:16. | :07:19.
security scare. Dozens of businesses on Westborough in the town centre | :07:19. | :07:23.
were closed for more than four hours after a suspicious package was found | :07:23. | :07:27.
at the back of a shop. The area was declared safe after an army bomb | :07:27. | :07:30.
disposal team carried out two controlled explosions. | :07:30. | :07:35.
A man who helped his friend attempt to kill himself has been jailed for | :07:35. | :07:40.
12 years. Kevin Howe, pictured here, supplied his friend Stephen Walker | :07:40. | :07:43.
with a can of petrol and a lighter shortly before he set himself on | :07:44. | :07:50.
fire. The court heard Mr Walker felt suicidal and begged his friend to do | :07:50. | :07:54.
it. Mr Walker suffered 95% burns in the incident at his home in Bishop | :07:54. | :07:57.
Auckland last May, which followed a heavy drinking session. Jailing the | :07:57. | :08:01.
20—year—old, the judge at Durham Crown Court said Howe had taken some | :08:01. | :08:04.
delight in knowing what his friend was about to do. Stephen Walker is | :08:04. | :08:09.
still in a critical condition in hospital. | :08:09. | :08:13.
They've been worried about it for years. Now they're furious. A | :08:14. | :08:17.
derelict former care home in Gateshead that locals say has become | :08:17. | :08:20.
a potential death trap to youngsters. Now it's emerged that | :08:20. | :08:23.
intimate, personal details of former residents of the home are lying | :08:23. | :08:26.
scattered around those ruins, for anyone to find. And until today, | :08:26. | :08:33.
there was nothing to stop intruders. Relatives say they're appalled. For | :08:33. | :08:38.
tonight's Look North Report, Gerry Jackson has been to the secluded | :08:38. | :08:46.
site, at Winlaton. Abandoned and left to scavengers and | :08:46. | :08:52.
vandals. As it seems, are the very personal reminders of people who | :08:52. | :08:57.
lived here. A former hospital, the Winalton Care Village went under a | :08:57. | :09:00.
number of names and operators during its long history. Jane 's father | :09:00. | :09:11.
died here. They are personal details about what happened overnight. My | :09:11. | :09:18.
dad 's personal confidential details. | :09:18. | :09:25.
This was a former TB Hospital and later a care home. For nearly a | :09:25. | :09:29.
decade, it has been empty and crumbling. Developers plan to build | :09:29. | :09:37.
more than 30 homes here. Locals say it has become a magnet for children. | :09:37. | :09:45.
You can walk into the premises, there are no railings, anyone could | :09:45. | :09:49.
fall down a hole and you could be lying there for a while without | :09:49. | :09:56.
anybody to come to your aid. This is the biggest building of | :09:56. | :10:01.
around ten or 12 in total. Completely open to the elements and | :10:01. | :10:07.
goodness knows how many vandals. We have no idea how safe or unsafe it | :10:07. | :10:12.
is in there, so we are not going to go any further. | :10:12. | :10:14.
But others, of course, have done. They've started fires and ripped out | :10:14. | :10:17.
anything of value. There are deep voids under the floor. Yesterday, | :10:17. | :10:26.
anybody could wander in. After our filming today, the site owners were | :10:26. | :10:33.
complying with their request for tighter security. | :10:33. | :10:38.
We were aware of it prior to that and that is why we are working with | :10:38. | :10:50.
accounts will to redevelop it. If one of your relatives were named | :10:50. | :10:54.
in there and this had been left all these years lying about, how would | :10:54. | :11:00.
you feel? I wouldn't be happy, I must admit, but we haven't been in | :11:00. | :11:04.
and we weren't responsible for clearing the building. Confidential | :11:04. | :11:12.
information. Absolutely. This is your responsibility as well, it is | :11:12. | :11:17.
part of the site you own. He said he will hand over items like | :11:17. | :11:22.
this to the last care home operators who told us: | :11:22. | :11:34.
Well, we've had the good news for Sunderland — 400 new jobs at Nissan. | :11:34. | :11:41.
Now for the bad — nine of its public libraries are shutting. About 30 | :11:41. | :11:43.
protesters are staging a sit—in tonight at a library in the city in | :11:43. | :11:48.
protest at its closure. The library is one of nine being shut for good | :11:48. | :11:51.
today by Sunderland Council. Andrew Hartley has sent us this report. | :11:51. | :12:02.
This is, or rather was, Southwick library, but no longer. It is one of | :12:02. | :12:07.
nine libraries closing forgotten night, leaving 11 (the city. Saving | :12:07. | :12:15.
the council £850,000. Protesters entered the building before five | :12:15. | :12:18.
o'clock this evening and staff were preparing to close. This is too | :12:18. | :12:28.
little too late isn't it? It is not, we have been campaigning | :12:28. | :12:32.
since June. This is not the beginning. We have lobbied the | :12:32. | :12:37.
council twice and had the mass petition. We have gone on for | :12:37. | :12:43.
several months now. This is a last resort. I have never protested in my | :12:43. | :12:50.
life, but I feel extremely angry over all of these cut and this | :12:50. | :12:58.
decision. The doors have closed for the final time. Inside is a bit of | :12:58. | :13:03.
the stand—off between 30 protesters and the small number of police and | :13:03. | :13:08.
security guards. The council was not able to put up anyone for interview | :13:08. | :13:13.
tonight, but told us the cuts are part of savings totalling £110 | :13:13. | :13:17.
million because of reductions to central government funding. If they | :13:17. | :13:22.
had not cut here, they would have had to make the cut. Is promising a | :13:22. | :13:29.
more flexible library service, which it claims will reach more people. | :13:29. | :13:33.
With the stock market flotation of Royal Mail only a matter of days | :13:33. | :13:37.
away, there are growing concerns that rural services could suffer | :13:37. | :13:40.
under the new regime. The Government says a six—day a week service will | :13:40. | :13:43.
be guaranteed, but the Sunday Politics programme has found real | :13:43. | :13:47.
concerns. Farmer Stuart Nelson from the Ingram Valley isn't convinced. | :13:47. | :13:56.
I think the biggest worry is that we don't get it all has to travel out | :13:56. | :14:02.
to get it. That is another chore that you don't need. It is a thing | :14:02. | :14:07.
that we are paying for and then it is costing money to collect. Where | :14:07. | :14:13.
we have already paid for it once. Why should we have to pay again to | :14:13. | :14:17.
go and get it? And you can see more on that story | :14:17. | :14:20.
on Sunday Politics at 11.15am this Sunday morning. York is to become | :14:21. | :14:28.
the first city in the world to use the new system that let us drivers | :14:28. | :14:32.
know if there are cyclists near the vehicles. The alert uses electronic | :14:32. | :14:38.
tanks fitted to bikes that send a signal to buses to warn drivers. | :14:39. | :14:43.
This being used on University transport first, but could be | :14:43. | :14:49.
expanded across the city. Too many cyclists are dying on our roads, | :14:49. | :14:52.
especially in London and large cities. We think we can save lives | :14:52. | :15:01.
and make it safer for cyclists. It will make a big difference to the | :15:01. | :15:05.
driver 's ability to detect cyclists coming on the inside and finding out | :15:05. | :15:10.
whether cyclists are. Coming up, the £4 million lifeline | :15:10. | :15:14.
for one of our best known theatres. And we go through the keyhole for a | :15:14. | :15:17.
rare glimpse inside a listed building that's been a home to | :15:17. | :15:28.
Bishops for 800 years. No pressure dominates the weekend. Join me later | :15:28. | :15:37.
for the details. One of the region's best known | :15:37. | :15:40.
theatres has received £4 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund to | :15:40. | :15:44.
complete its restoration. The Globe in Stockton famously had the Beatles | :15:44. | :15:49.
playing on the night JFK was killed. Buddy Holly and the Rolling Stones | :15:49. | :15:52.
also played there. A recent attempt to restore the theatre stalled | :15:53. | :15:55.
because of funding problems. Stuart Whincup reports. | :15:55. | :16:10.
In the shell of this once great theatre a tribute to the Globe 's | :16:10. | :16:18.
most famous act. The £4 million lottery grant will help transform | :16:18. | :16:21.
the rundown theatre bringing big acts actor Stockton. This is such a | :16:21. | :16:28.
wonderful venue. Historically it is in the centre of Stockton. There | :16:28. | :16:36.
will be a cascade effect that will regenerate the shops, pubs, | :16:36. | :16:42.
restaurants and there will be a great energy in the town. Worked to | :16:42. | :16:47.
restore the globe started four years ago, but asbestos, flooding and | :16:47. | :16:54.
funding problems led to delays. Is it going to happen this time? It | :16:54. | :17:00.
certainly is. We have the money, that is the main thing. Everything | :17:00. | :17:07.
is right about this project. It is in the right location, it is a | :17:07. | :17:10.
fantastic venue. I can't say any more. | :17:10. | :17:17.
They may no longer be able to attract the biggest band in the | :17:17. | :17:22.
world, but with a capacity of 2500, developers say they can still | :17:22. | :17:26.
attract the names from music and comedy here. | :17:26. | :17:39.
That is the biggest crowd Stuart will ever play too. | :17:39. | :17:43.
It's been home to the Bishops of Carlisle for 800 years. But what do | :17:43. | :17:47.
you do with a Grade One listed castle when the current Bishop | :17:47. | :17:50.
decides to move out? Today, visitors have been given a very rare | :17:50. | :17:53.
opportunity to look behind the scenes of Rose Castle, near Dalston | :17:53. | :17:57.
in Cumbria, where, after a period of uncertainty, there are now ambitious | :17:57. | :18:00.
plans for the future. Graham Moss paid a visit. | :18:00. | :18:02.
By anyone's standards it's an impressive pile. A fortified house. | :18:02. | :18:05.
A private chapel. 16 bedrooms — all set in six acres of grounds and | :18:05. | :18:09.
today a very rare chance to peek behind the scenes. | :18:09. | :18:19.
Years it has been transformed from a fortress to keep the Scots are they | :18:19. | :18:24.
and each generation has changed. In the more peaceful times and the | :18:24. | :18:29.
tranquillity of the place now. Rather than the fortress strength. | :18:29. | :18:33.
But for a modern Bishop, it's all a bit grand and no longer suited to | :18:33. | :18:37.
the needs of the Diocese of Carlisle. When the current Bishop | :18:37. | :18:40.
decided to live rather more modestly in Kewick, the future was uncertain. | :18:40. | :18:51.
After 800 years of the bishop living here and the castle being ransacked | :18:51. | :18:56.
and burnt and rebuilt, for the first time it was facing the possibility | :18:56. | :18:58.
of emptiness or being sold. The plan now is that it will become | :18:58. | :19:02.
an international Christian centre for reconciliation, bringing | :19:02. | :19:04.
together different faith groups for greater understanding. | :19:04. | :19:11.
We would love to see this place full of people again. We want to show | :19:11. | :19:16.
that it is a place of warmth and Wellcome, hospitality. We want to | :19:16. | :19:21.
bring people here to experience the peace and tranquillity that this | :19:21. | :19:25.
building has. We want to help them work through their disagreements and | :19:25. | :19:29.
divisions and come to a place where they can work together with people | :19:29. | :19:32.
they disagree with. Ownership of the building could | :19:32. | :19:35.
change in a matter of months with the new centre possibly operational | :19:35. | :19:45.
as early as next year. Now it is time for a catch up with the sport. | :19:45. | :19:49.
It's fairly quiet on the football front this weekend. There's no | :19:49. | :19:52.
Premier League programme, because of the latest round of international | :19:52. | :19:55.
matches and that's also caused the postponement of the scheduled games | :19:55. | :19:58.
for Middlesbrough, Carlisle and York City. So, in the League, the focus | :19:58. | :20:01.
is on Hartlepool United and in the Conference, on the return of a face | :20:01. | :20:06.
familiar to fans on Wearside. It's eight years since John Oster | :20:07. | :20:10.
left Sunderland under a bit of a cloud. He didn't always live up to | :20:10. | :20:15.
his billing, and wasn't helped by a series of off—the—field incidents. | :20:15. | :20:18.
Since then, he's been to half a dozen clubs, including Doncaster | :20:18. | :20:21.
Rovers and Barnet, but now, at the age of 34, the Welsh international | :20:21. | :20:24.
winger's back in the North East, with Gateshead. From what I have | :20:24. | :20:33.
seen, it is not too different. There are some good teams in the league, | :20:33. | :20:37.
but there are some different teams at the bottom where they are | :20:37. | :20:42.
part—time teams. It is not easy for them. The likes of litre —— Luton | :20:42. | :20:49.
and Wrexham, there are some big clubs. As a new challenge that I am | :20:49. | :20:52.
relishing. Fortunes have certainly picked up | :20:52. | :20:55.
since former York boss Gary Mills took charge — four wins in their | :20:55. | :20:59.
last five games has lifted them well away from the Conference drop zone. | :20:59. | :21:07.
Individually and as a team, the improvement has been fantastic. Four | :21:08. | :21:11.
out of five, fantastic run for us. Hartlepool, meanwhile, go to Exeter | :21:11. | :21:14.
in League Two, looking for their third away win inside a week. | :21:14. | :21:23.
My philosophy is to go away from home, your first point of call is | :21:23. | :21:28.
not to lose. If you can come away with something, you have had a | :21:28. | :21:35.
positive result. We have to try and continue because it gives you a | :21:35. | :21:40.
foothold. You get something. And you can hear full match | :21:40. | :21:43.
commentary of Hartlepool's game at the other St James' Park on BBC | :21:43. | :21:46.
Tees. Meanwhile in Scottish League Two, Berwick will move within a | :21:46. | :21:50.
point of leaders East Stirling if they beat Elgin at Shielfield Park. | :21:50. | :21:55.
It was a case of brothers in arms at Ashington Football Club last night. | :21:55. | :22:00.
Newly—retired Durham and England cricketer Steve Harmison lined up | :22:00. | :22:02.
alongside his two brothers, as a Northumberland team took on a | :22:02. | :22:05.
Newcastle United Eleven — which included a World Cup semi—finalist. | :22:05. | :22:08.
The Magpies won 8—3, but two charities were the big winners. Mark | :22:08. | :22:12.
Tulip was there. Peter Beardsley has played on much | :22:12. | :22:15.
bigger stages, but with the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation one of the | :22:15. | :22:18.
beneficiaries of the Stephen Harmison Benefit Football Match no | :22:18. | :22:21.
surprise to see the ex—Newcastle and England midfielder in the visitors' | :22:21. | :22:30.
line—up. Sir Bobby Robson did an enormous amount for me in my early | :22:30. | :22:35.
days as a sportsman. The awareness and the money that we can give will | :22:35. | :22:38.
be fantastic. James Harmison, a Northern League | :22:38. | :22:41.
footballer with Bedlington, had the obvious advantage over his | :22:41. | :22:43.
professional cricketing brothers Kent and ex—Durham all—rounder Ben | :22:43. | :22:50.
and their elder brother Steve. We followed his career. James is the | :22:50. | :22:57.
main driver will stop every single person is probably here because of | :22:57. | :23:03.
James. He played alongside them for the length of his career. Hopefully | :23:03. | :23:08.
they will enjoy a great night. I have enjoyed playing with them —— | :23:08. | :23:14.
with him. No shame in the final score, of course, on a wild and | :23:14. | :23:17.
windy night in Ashington, but what about the evening's other big | :23:17. | :23:20.
talking point, Steve's retirement from cricket. | :23:20. | :23:23.
Playing 12 months of the year, so now it is time to quit. Funds were | :23:23. | :23:26.
also raised for the Professional Cricketers' Association. | :23:26. | :23:32.
In rugby union, Newcastle Falcons are looking forward to a new | :23:32. | :23:35.
experience tomorrow, when they play in Romania for the first time in | :23:35. | :23:39.
Europe's Amlin Challenge Cup. Dean Richards has made ten changes to the | :23:39. | :23:42.
side that beat Worcester in the Premiership last weekend, as the | :23:42. | :23:45.
Falcons take on Bucharest Wolves, a team made up of the best players in | :23:45. | :23:48.
Romanian club rugby, who're challenging for the national side. | :23:48. | :23:52.
They only got together earlier this week, but they'll be no pushover. | :23:52. | :24:02.
They don't want to get some tweaking and week out. The regional side | :24:02. | :24:10.
makes them a little bit stronger. There is no point going over there | :24:10. | :24:17.
if it is going to be easy. You wouldn't do it unless they were good | :24:17. | :24:22.
players. I have never been there myself, but I am excited. It is a | :24:22. | :24:28.
game that brings excitement because it is a new challenge and a new | :24:28. | :24:31.
culture to experience. Finally, there's not long left to | :24:31. | :24:34.
nominate someone you know for this year's BBC Sports Personality of the | :24:34. | :24:37.
Year Unsung Hero award. Last year's winner in the north east | :24:37. | :24:41.
and Cumbria was Peter Crawford, a gymnastics coach from Billingham. It | :24:41. | :24:44.
could be someone who's unearthed a real winner or someone who gives up | :24:44. | :24:48.
their time to keep a local club going behind the scenes. If you'd | :24:48. | :24:51.
like to nominate someone go the website. Closing date is October | :24:51. | :25:00.
14th — that's next Monday. By my calendar, that is next Monday. Not | :25:00. | :25:07.
long left at all. Now it is time for the weather and I am guessing it is | :25:07. | :25:13.
going to be a bit windy? Yes, yesterday we showed pictures of | :25:13. | :25:19.
huge waves. It seems some people it is not enough to watch the waves. | :25:19. | :25:26.
Thanks for that shot off the North Yorkshire coast. Another shot here, | :25:26. | :25:33.
along exposure, the surfer just as mad as the one along the coast. | :25:33. | :25:39.
Over the weekend we will keep the wind. Fair amount of cloud for most | :25:39. | :25:43.
of the time and some of us will have rented content with. A blanket of | :25:43. | :25:49.
cloud that will hang around for most of us. Most places will stay dry and | :25:49. | :25:54.
maybe one or two breaks in the crowd. Temperatures into single | :25:54. | :26:03.
figures. Temperatures are couple of degrees milder. It is a similar | :26:03. | :26:10.
picture tomorrow. A lot of cloud from the word go. Eastern areas will | :26:10. | :26:17.
see patchy rain at times. Certainly a damp feel at times. Further west | :26:17. | :26:23.
should they try, but brighter spells will be further few and far between. | :26:23. | :26:29.
Temperature is nothing to write home about, 13 Celsius at best. It is not | :26:29. | :26:34.
as windy as it has been, but the wind is still coming from the cold | :26:34. | :26:39.
north—easterly direction so it will still have an edge to it. That is | :26:39. | :26:43.
the hitch as we head into the weekend. This low will push the | :26:43. | :26:50.
frontal system up from the south and introduce more rain through the | :26:50. | :26:55.
second part of the weekend and the beginning of the next working week. | :26:55. | :27:01.
If you are out and about, a lot of cloud around. Maybe some light rain | :27:01. | :27:09.
at times and still look cold breeze which will ease into Monday. The | :27:09. | :27:14.
cloud always thicker in the north—east and the wind always | :27:14. | :27:19.
stronger. More widespread rain on Sunday and Monday. If it is any | :27:19. | :27:24.
consolation, Tuesday looks drier and brighter. You can keep up—to—date | :27:24. | :27:31.
with the BBC weather application. Bring on Tuesday them. That is it | :27:32. | :27:38.
for tonight. We will be back at 10:25pm. Good night. | :27:39. | :27:40. |
