with to come. That's all from the BBC News at | :00:00. | :00:13.
Hello and welcome to Thursday's Look North. Tonight: Cleared of all | :00:14. | :00:19.
charges, the nursery worker, on trial over the death of a three | :00:20. | :00:23.
year`old girl. Six arrests and more than 50 dogs seized in dawn raids on | :00:24. | :00:27.
suspected illegal puppy farms. Old and cold. | :00:28. | :00:29.
The campaign to help elderly people cope with soaring fuel bills this | :00:30. | :00:31.
winter. And Matthew's big moment. A Tyneside | :00:32. | :00:34.
skater achieves his season's best at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. | :00:35. | :00:43.
We salute the stars of 2013 at our glitzy awards ceremony and Tyneside. | :00:44. | :00:49.
And not a bad time to launch a football history exhibition, showing | :00:50. | :01:00.
all your best bits. First tonight: a children's | :01:01. | :01:06.
assistant has been cleared of all blame over the death of a | :01:07. | :01:10.
three`year`old girl on her first day at nursery. Sophee Redhead, who's | :01:11. | :01:13.
24, was found not guilty of the manslaughter of Lydia Bishop by | :01:14. | :01:16.
gross negligence and not guilty of failing to take care of the child. | :01:17. | :01:23.
But tonight police have strongly criticised York College, where the | :01:24. | :01:25.
tragedy happened eighteen months ago, after a jury found it had | :01:26. | :01:29.
failed to ensure the safety of children in its care. | :01:30. | :01:34.
Sophee Redhead, hurrying from court with her parents this afternoon, | :01:35. | :01:39.
after a jury had cleared her of charges that she had faced for the | :01:40. | :01:43.
past 18 months. You must be very relieved. But still, the tragedy of | :01:44. | :01:48.
three`year`old Lydia Bishop, the little girl excited before her first | :01:49. | :01:52.
day of nursery has said, love you, mummy, see you later, but hours | :01:53. | :01:58.
later, she was dead, strangled by a rope on the site at York college | :01:59. | :02:05.
nursery a grunt. She should had been `` nursery playground. She was not | :02:06. | :02:09.
supervised. Today, a jury decided that York college had failed Lydia. | :02:10. | :02:16.
There are safety precautions had tragically fallen short. The rope | :02:17. | :02:18.
should never have been left on the slide. It took the jury hear less | :02:19. | :02:25.
than four hours to clear Sophee Redhead of any blame in connection | :02:26. | :02:31.
with the blade `` with the death of Lydia Bishop. She was in tears on | :02:32. | :02:35.
hearing the verdict, but the college itself has been found guilty of | :02:36. | :02:38.
failing to ensure the health and safety of children at its nursery. | :02:39. | :02:45.
Tonight, the senior North Yorkshire police investigating officer in the | :02:46. | :02:46.
case said in a statement: it is more than just a tick box | :02:47. | :03:10.
which must... York College will be sentenced next week for their | :03:11. | :03:15.
failings. They said in a statement saying that they were devastated by | :03:16. | :03:20.
the awful events of September 17, 2012 and deeply regret what happened | :03:21. | :03:23.
and cannot begin to imagine the pain experienced by Lydia's family and | :03:24. | :03:27.
everyone affected by this terrible tragedy. Sophee Redhead made no | :03:28. | :03:33.
comment and she left court, and Lydia Bishop's family hurried away | :03:34. | :03:38.
as well. In every one's minds, the breeze of what happened to little | :03:39. | :03:43.
Lydia that terrible September day. The sharper the memories of what | :03:44. | :03:48.
happened `` the memories of what happened. | :03:49. | :03:53.
Councils across the North are making thousands of pounds from parents who | :03:54. | :03:57.
take their children out of school for family holidays. Last year one | :03:58. | :04:08.
council made nearly ?9,000 in fines. Action is being taken against | :04:09. | :04:11.
parents whose children are regular truants, as well as those opting to | :04:12. | :04:14.
take their annual break during term time, when travel is cheaper. It is | :04:15. | :04:17.
the time of year, when for many people, thoughts turn to the annual | :04:18. | :04:20.
family holiday. These days I'm a fines can be impressed `` these | :04:21. | :04:25.
days, fines can be imposed on parent to take their children on holiday | :04:26. | :04:30.
during term time. Last year, Stockton Council collected almost | :04:31. | :04:35.
?2000 from parents, but in Cleveland, fines of more than ?8,000 | :04:36. | :04:41.
were imposed. The figure was even higher for durum Council. Those in | :04:42. | :04:45.
charge of children's education say that cases are looked at | :04:46. | :04:49.
individually, though parents who blatantly break the law will be | :04:50. | :04:53.
fined. It is possibly a wake`up call for the family that we are dealing | :04:54. | :04:57.
with, and also, when the message gets around, it might be a bit of a | :04:58. | :05:02.
wake`up call to other people, that their children's education, what | :05:03. | :05:06.
ever it is, is very important for that child. For many parents, the | :05:07. | :05:11.
cost of a holiday during school breaks can be too expensive. From | :05:12. | :05:16.
our inquiries, for a family of four, seven days in Spain during the | :05:17. | :05:19.
school snowbird `` school summer holidays this year would cost him | :05:20. | :05:30.
his ?4000. For the same holiday in June, the price significantly drops, | :05:31. | :05:33.
with savings of almost ?1700. We cannot afford holidays during the | :05:34. | :05:38.
school year and we cannot afford a holiday because of the situation. | :05:39. | :05:42.
Just cannot do it. You are better off paying the fine. If you have got | :05:43. | :05:46.
a number of children, you are better off paying the fine. I think | :05:47. | :05:49.
children need a break, parents need a break. I do not think they should | :05:50. | :05:54.
be fined for doing that. For many parents, it is a moral dilemma, but | :05:55. | :05:59.
councils say they will enforce the law, and pursue offenders through | :06:00. | :06:06.
the courts if necessary. With me in the studio now is John | :06:07. | :06:12.
Hays from Hays Travel. The fact the travel industry increases the cost | :06:13. | :06:14.
of holidays during school breaks, that is just unfair, isn't it was | :06:15. | :06:19.
Jamar I am afraid it is supply and demand. We know that if we `` well, | :06:20. | :06:27.
I am afraid it is supply and demand. It is supply and demand, I am | :06:28. | :06:33.
afraid. But it turned with a child at school, the travel industry has | :06:34. | :06:37.
you at their mercy, is there an answer? There are a couple of | :06:38. | :06:41.
things. The government could help. For example, I am going away next | :06:42. | :06:45.
week with my family at half term, and paying an awful lot for the | :06:46. | :06:49.
flights and accommodation, certainly more than if I went this week. It | :06:50. | :06:55.
would be quite simple to stagger the holiday, so if that half term was | :06:56. | :06:59.
done every three weeks, then the different schools, different weeks, | :07:00. | :07:03.
then there would not be such a big peak. That is one thing the | :07:04. | :07:07.
government could do and it would be quite easy. We as an agent, ten | :07:08. | :07:15.
years ago, we started a scheme called every school day counts, | :07:16. | :07:22.
where we try to bring it home that schooldays are important. If parents | :07:23. | :07:24.
take the kids away during the holidays, they are going to have a | :07:25. | :07:28.
substantial discount. It has been selected as best practice in | :07:29. | :07:33.
Parliament. Most councils in the North East are doing it now. We have | :07:34. | :07:37.
given over ?1 million away in discounts in the scheme. Sounds | :07:38. | :07:41.
good. White do the rest of the travel agencies not do this? `` | :07:42. | :07:49.
why. The answer is to contract both. Parents have a nasty dilemma, the | :07:50. | :07:54.
kids schooling is important, but prices do go up if there is a peak. | :07:55. | :07:59.
Thank you very much for coming in. Well, that's a story that's got you | :08:00. | :08:03.
going on the Look North Facebook page. If you'd like to add to the | :08:04. | :08:07.
debate, why not log on and let us know what you think. The details are | :08:08. | :08:10.
on your screen now. More than 50 dogs have been seized | :08:11. | :08:13.
and six people arrested in early`morning raids in East Durham. | :08:14. | :08:16.
The police and RSPCA officers visited six properties at dawn, | :08:17. | :08:19.
where organised criminals are said to be running illegal puppy farms. | :08:20. | :08:23.
Many of the dogs fall ill and some even die once they've been sold. | :08:24. | :08:25.
Richard Thomas joined today's operation. | :08:26. | :08:36.
Just after 5:00am they gathered. 70 police and around 30 RSPCA officers. | :08:37. | :08:39.
Months of planning had gone into Operation Waxbill. The plan was to | :08:40. | :08:43.
put an end to unlicensed puppy dealing. The raids centred on two | :08:44. | :08:47.
farms and four houses in the Shotton Colliery and Haswell areas. I have | :08:48. | :08:54.
got a warrant to search the property. | :08:55. | :08:57.
At this farm, just one puppy was found together with two adult dogs. | :08:58. | :09:01.
But as the morning went on, better news. | :09:02. | :09:05.
This is one of the six addresses that was rated this morning. We are | :09:06. | :09:09.
told by the police that in the back of this house there are puppies. A | :09:10. | :09:13.
that is with them now and they were taken away by the RSPCA. `` a | :09:14. | :09:21.
veterinarian. These operations take time to plan and prepare. We had to | :09:22. | :09:25.
ensure that we could carry out the operation, and the amount of | :09:26. | :09:28.
resources that we have had to date demonstrates how seriously we take | :09:29. | :09:36.
this issue thus record the date `` today demonstrates how seriously we | :09:37. | :09:39.
take this issue. Officers discovered more than 20 | :09:40. | :09:43.
dogs at this farm alone. And by mid morning, the number of puppies | :09:44. | :09:46.
seized was 12, together with more than 40 adult dogs. A lot of these | :09:47. | :09:49.
puppies have died soon after they have been sold, so that is possibly | :09:50. | :09:53.
12 lives that have been sold. We'll be fined in circumstances, if `` | :09:54. | :09:59.
what we find in these circumstances, if they are female dogs, there could | :10:00. | :10:03.
be a litter of nine off of each of those, so we are looking at hundreds | :10:04. | :10:07.
of dogs that we have potentially taken off the streets today. | :10:08. | :10:10.
Those arrested have all been questioned under the Animal Welfare | :10:11. | :10:14.
Act. All the dogs seized are for the moment under the care of the RSPCA. | :10:15. | :10:26.
Tens of thousands of people die every winter as a result of the cold | :10:27. | :10:29.
weather, and with energy costs rising, heating your home is not | :10:30. | :10:33.
getting any easier. Now a group of charities and other organisations is | :10:34. | :10:36.
trying to do something about it. This week is Cold Homes Week, a | :10:37. | :10:39.
series of events designed to draw attention to the problem. | :10:40. | :10:44.
The walls are insulated and the house is not very big, that this | :10:45. | :10:49.
woman, from Washington, still sometimes struggles to keep warm. My | :10:50. | :10:54.
scarf keeps me that little bit warmer. If I get too cold, I have | :10:55. | :11:00.
got some special socks. I usually have my feet in the today so I do | :11:01. | :11:08.
not get the draft. With energy prices rising, she has, like many of | :11:09. | :11:15.
us, had to ration her heating. I can bear the cold till about three, and | :11:16. | :11:20.
then I will put the heat on low, and then about six o'clock, when I am | :11:21. | :11:27.
getting my evening meal, I turn it up higher than. Now she can share | :11:28. | :11:33.
her experience with others. An event is being organised here in the city | :11:34. | :11:37.
said people can exchange ideas on how to beat the cold. The charity | :11:38. | :11:41.
says it is not about staying comparable, it is about staying | :11:42. | :11:46.
healthy. For older people, it can be dangerous. If they have a long tomb | :11:47. | :11:50.
in the shin or a chest infection `` long`term infection, or a heart | :11:51. | :11:55.
disease, it can be fatal. So, how have people been managing to keep | :11:56. | :12:00.
warm and healthy? We resolved that we would downsize, move into a more | :12:01. | :12:04.
modern flat, with higher insulation, better roofing insulation. I am | :12:05. | :12:13.
really concerned about those who need it and it is not there and it | :12:14. | :12:17.
should be. There is no wonder people are finding it tough. Gas prices | :12:18. | :12:21.
have more than doubled in real terms over the last ten years. So if | :12:22. | :12:26.
Lillian still has to wrap up in her efficient home, how must `` how hard | :12:27. | :12:33.
must it be for others? Still to come on Thursday's Look | :12:34. | :12:39.
North, tonight's sport with Mark. I cannot say more, really. Plus, | :12:40. | :12:43.
we're with the proud and emotional parents of figure skater Matt Parr | :12:44. | :12:47.
as his big moment arrives at the Winter Olympics. | :12:48. | :12:50.
No real winter weather tomorrow, but it looks like a decent day for us | :12:51. | :12:55.
for most of us. Changes in the conditions for the weekend. Join me | :12:56. | :13:02.
later for the full story. Campaigners fighting to establish a | :13:03. | :13:05.
Care Hotel in York for people with multiple sclerosis are asking for | :13:06. | :13:11.
help to make their plans a reality. Currently there's no dedicated | :13:12. | :13:13.
respite centre for MS sufferers between Scotland and the Midlands. | :13:14. | :13:18.
Now a new charity has been formed to try to give those with the | :13:19. | :13:20.
condition, and their families, much`needed holidays in York. | :13:21. | :13:29.
Every day life can be very tough for people with MS, and the idea of a | :13:30. | :13:33.
Care Hotel, where they can enjoy a break like anyone else, is hugely | :13:34. | :13:37.
appealing to people like this couple. Brian would travel to such a | :13:38. | :13:42.
hotel from his home regularly. Just to get away and be looked after. You | :13:43. | :13:48.
use everything you can. You just have a nice and relaxing week. It | :13:49. | :13:53.
would benefit me greatly, and a lot of my fronts as well, because there | :13:54. | :13:57.
really is not the where to go. I cannot walk. I have to go around in | :13:58. | :14:07.
my wheelchair all the time. You want people there to be able to help you | :14:08. | :14:13.
with things. If I want a drink or what ever, it has to be done for me. | :14:14. | :14:22.
MS is eight degenerative neurological condition that affects | :14:23. | :14:25.
the central nervous system through damage to protective coating around | :14:26. | :14:29.
nerves, and can cause many problems, including problems with | :14:30. | :14:33.
the senses, and for those with a more serious kind, it can lead to | :14:34. | :14:37.
public with the following, seizures and even paralysis. The strike rate | :14:38. | :14:45.
can lead to problems with swallowing. `` it can lead to | :14:46. | :14:52.
problems with swallowing. We can get people in and out of bed. There will | :14:53. | :14:57.
be proper wet rooms in every room. We will have a series `` we will | :14:58. | :15:02.
have a group of carriers who we have been talking to that can be used as | :15:03. | :15:08.
a bank of carriers. The charity behind the scheme faces a massive | :15:09. | :15:11.
task to raise the money that they need without a major financial | :15:12. | :15:16.
backer. We have estimated that we are going to need about ?2.5 million | :15:17. | :15:22.
to build the centre that we would like. It is going to be a hotel that | :15:23. | :15:26.
is fitted up said people in wheelchairs can move about freely. | :15:27. | :15:32.
`` picked it up so people. It would be great if somebody would be | :15:33. | :15:36.
prepared to put their hands in their pockets and say, here it is, but we | :15:37. | :15:39.
anticipate we have got a lot of hard work between now and the eventual | :15:40. | :15:44.
building of it. The initial cost of establishing a fund`raising shop | :15:45. | :15:49.
here has been met, and now the real challenge of raising ?2 million to | :15:50. | :15:53.
create a very different kind of care experience for people with MS and | :15:54. | :16:00.
their families across the North. Sounds like a great idea. And so is | :16:01. | :16:04.
this one! A lorry, packed with charitable donations, has set off on | :16:05. | :16:08.
a 3,000 mile journey to take vital supplies from the North East to | :16:09. | :16:11.
people caught up in the civil war in Syria. The items were donated to the | :16:12. | :16:16.
Teesside charity One Nation. It'll take three weeks for the aid to | :16:17. | :16:20.
arrive in Syria, where it's thought around 130,000 people have been | :16:21. | :16:22.
killed. The organisers of the charity trip say donations came from | :16:23. | :16:25.
people on Teesside, Wearside and Tyneside. It's their second trip to | :16:26. | :16:31.
Syria. There are masked men, gunmen in the | :16:32. | :16:36.
streets, they are intimidating at times, so you have to make it known | :16:37. | :16:40.
that you are here for charitable purposes so people do not feel | :16:41. | :16:43.
threatened or get the wrong impression. It is so sad to see that | :16:44. | :16:47.
there is so much need. You can see the look in their eyes. What is | :16:48. | :16:51.
humbling is that a lot of these people will not say, give me, gave | :16:52. | :16:55.
me, they will not beg, you will have to go to them and give them things. | :16:56. | :17:03.
The Winter Olympics doesn't formally open until tomorrow, but figure | :17:04. | :17:06.
skater Matt Parr has already had his moment in the spotlight. And the | :17:07. | :17:10.
23`year`old was delighted with the outcome, a season's best on the | :17:11. | :17:14.
biggest stage of all in Sochi this afternoon. For his parents, back on | :17:15. | :17:17.
Tyneside, seeing Matt reach the pinnacle of his sport was reward for | :17:18. | :17:21.
years of hard work. Watching with them, was Peter Harris. | :17:22. | :17:24.
If the tension was a stomach churning in Sochi, it was unbearable | :17:25. | :17:30.
back home. Jill and Steve have travelled thousands of miles to | :17:31. | :17:33.
support their son's career, and all for this moment. First up, the | :17:34. | :17:40.
four`time ridges champion started skating at the age of seven. Awful! | :17:41. | :17:46.
I cannot wait till it is over. You want to see it. It is like watching | :17:47. | :17:51.
a car crash. You want to look but you do not want to look. Matt was | :17:52. | :17:55.
the first man on the ice today, the first mailed written on this level | :17:56. | :18:01.
for 16 years. A four`time British champion, he did not waste his big | :18:02. | :18:02.
moment. Yes! Oh, he held it together. Yes! | :18:03. | :18:23.
It is what he has aimed for since he was a boy, and he has got there the | :18:24. | :18:31.
I'm shocked. I am so sorry. We are so grateful to all of the people | :18:32. | :18:34.
that have helped him, from Francis Smith at the ice rink it `` giving | :18:35. | :18:41.
him three things, working with him so he had potential to move on. I | :18:42. | :18:48.
cannot say anymore, really. Seasons passed. His adventure might end | :18:49. | :18:56.
here, but he will forever be an Olympian. | :18:57. | :19:02.
But a bit choked there, watching that one. He is a lovely lad and he | :19:03. | :19:08.
came in the other day to chat to us. Fantastic. Well done to him. Rest of | :19:09. | :19:14.
the sport while I recover. They're eighth in the Premier League | :19:15. | :19:18.
and have just parted company with their unpopular director of | :19:19. | :19:20.
football. But Newcastle fans in truth have needed cheering up this | :19:21. | :19:25.
week. Chiek Tiote's joined a long injury list following the latest | :19:26. | :19:28.
derby defeat and a transfer window, which saw the club's star player | :19:29. | :19:31.
leave without being replaced. So what better antidote than a new | :19:32. | :19:34.
exhibition, charting highlights from the Magpies' long history. | :19:35. | :19:37.
He knows what it's like to wind a major trophy. Former Newcastle | :19:38. | :19:40.
skipper Bob Moncur was one of the first to look round the Toon Times | :19:41. | :19:44.
exhibition commissioned by the NUFC Foundation. A Fairs Cup replica and | :19:45. | :19:47.
plenty of photos for a memory that really doesn't need jogging. I came | :19:48. | :19:52.
here in the 1960s as a boy, and obviously, there were some great | :19:53. | :19:58.
players here. Joe Hardy became the manager very quickly, and I think he | :19:59. | :20:01.
was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, because he actually | :20:02. | :20:07.
managed to wind some trophies! Director of football Joe Kinnear's | :20:08. | :20:10.
inglorious departure from the club on Monday night is unlikely to | :20:11. | :20:13.
feature in future exhibitions. Manager Alan Pardew insisted he was | :20:14. | :20:17.
sorry Kinnear had lost his job but hinted he may have a bigger say on | :20:18. | :20:20.
new recruits during a summer overhaul in the next transfer | :20:21. | :20:23.
window. We have got a list, as we did in the last window, and we | :20:24. | :20:26.
worked towards that list, and obviously, we have got a lot of work | :20:27. | :20:29.
to do, because over the summer, we have got a few players out of | :20:30. | :20:32.
contract, we have got one or two areas that we really need to | :20:33. | :20:36.
strengthen. Pardew's more immediate concern is | :20:37. | :20:39.
to pick up the team's spirits after Saturday's derby defeat and Cabaye's | :20:40. | :20:43.
departure. I think the club is stable at the moment. We were doing | :20:44. | :20:47.
well. I think Allen said, you have got to wish him good luck, because | :20:48. | :20:52.
he has done well this season. The whole club are obviously hurting at | :20:53. | :20:56.
the moment, that it is something that we have experienced before. It | :20:57. | :21:01.
is defeat, and it is important after defeat how you react, and we are | :21:02. | :21:06.
looking for a very positive reaction, Saturday afternoon. `` | :21:07. | :21:13.
reaction on Saturday afternoon. A Kevin Keegan fan as a child, | :21:14. | :21:16.
Ameobi was at the exhibition, which opens to the public at Newcastle's | :21:17. | :21:19.
Discovery Museum, on Saturday, with younger brother Sammy and defender | :21:20. | :21:22.
Paul Dummett. Ex`players included a man who felt at home with the | :21:23. | :21:25.
Victorian memorabilia and had this message for the current generation. | :21:26. | :21:28.
Let's see Newcastle go out onto the pitch and earn the rights to wind | :21:29. | :21:31.
the game, and if you do that, you are doing something right. | :21:32. | :21:43.
Free admission, by the way. Meanwhile, Newcastle are widely | :21:44. | :21:46.
reported this evening to have suspended reserve team coach Willie | :21:47. | :21:48.
Donachie following an alleged altercation with an under`21s player | :21:49. | :21:51.
after Monday's derby defeat at Sunderland. | :21:52. | :21:53.
Now, as we were hearing from Jeff and Dawn in last night's Look North, | :21:54. | :21:56.
the BBC's annual North East Sports Awards took place last night at | :21:57. | :22:00.
Billingham on Teesside. The top prize, Sports Personality of the | :22:01. | :22:02.
Year, went to Darlington's World champion boxer Stuart Hall. | :22:03. | :22:06.
Where else to hold an awards ceremony as the Winter Olympics | :22:07. | :22:12.
begin? Of course, an ice rink. The event at Billingham' Forum Leisure | :22:13. | :22:15.
Centre attracted hundreds of sports fans and many of the region's top | :22:16. | :22:18.
performers in a celebration of 2013. And what a year! European athletics | :22:19. | :22:22.
at Gateshead, and the Ashes cricket at Chester`le`Street. The top prize | :22:23. | :22:25.
` Sports Personality of the Year ` went to Darlington boxer Stuart | :22:26. | :22:31.
Hall. He became the region's first world champion in 25 years when he | :22:32. | :22:35.
won the IBF world bantamweight title. | :22:36. | :22:41.
I did not even know I was getting an award! Honest! This is a proper | :22:42. | :22:46.
surprise! I thought I had just been invited. I am flabbergasted. What | :22:47. | :22:51.
does it mean, when you hear, world champion Mister Mark it is a short | :22:52. | :22:57.
rope world champion? It is everything. I am getting `` when you | :22:58. | :23:06.
hear, world champion? It is everything. I put my heart and soul | :23:07. | :23:09.
into the fight and things like this do not happen to people like me. | :23:10. | :23:15.
Last year's County Cricket champions Durham picked up the Team Award. And | :23:16. | :23:19.
in the year he recovered from a heart attack, their former head | :23:20. | :23:22.
coach Geoff Cook the Jackie Milburn award for lifetime achievement. | :23:23. | :23:24.
Durham and England all`rounder Ben Stokes shared the Performance Award | :23:25. | :23:27.
with Garrick Porteous the Morpeth golfer, last summer's British | :23:28. | :23:30.
Amateur Champion. Swimmer Josef Craig won the Disabled Award, | :23:31. | :23:34.
Gymnast Shanice Davidson the junior. The Sporting Inspiration Award went | :23:35. | :23:37.
to Gill Prescott, World Masters Champion, from Durham Rowing Club. | :23:38. | :23:54.
Talking of plaudits, the Newcastle Eagles Player`Coach, Fab Flournoy, | :23:55. | :23:57.
will set a new all`time appearance record in the British Basketball | :23:58. | :24:01.
League this weekend. The 40`year`old American equals the 540 appearances | :24:02. | :24:04.
set by former Eagles player Pete Scantlebury when he plays against | :24:05. | :24:07.
the Sheffield Sharks tomorrow, and should set the record outright on | :24:08. | :24:11.
Sunday at Glasgow Rocks. But Flournoy, here watching a women's | :24:12. | :24:13.
university match at Newcastle's Sports Central, is in no mood to | :24:14. | :24:16.
celebrate as he ponders the implications of UK Sport's decision | :24:17. | :24:19.
to withdraw its ?7 million funding for Olympic basketball. | :24:20. | :24:28.
It is a devastating blow. You know, basketball has made great strides | :24:29. | :24:33.
over the past five, six years stop it is kind of `` six years. It is | :24:34. | :24:38.
kind of hard that a sport that reaches so many people on so many | :24:39. | :24:41.
different levels, that there is no funding at all. It is just going to | :24:42. | :24:49.
put more pressure on local clubs. It is just ridiculous. But it is just | :24:50. | :24:53.
one battle, another battle that everyone in basketball is going to | :24:54. | :24:58.
have to fight. And we will have a full weekend preview tomorrow. | :24:59. | :25:00.
have to fight. And we will have a Time for the weather. I do not want | :25:01. | :25:05.
to tempt fate, but I think we have been getting off lightly compared to | :25:06. | :25:09.
what is going on in the south. Most places today had some dry and bright | :25:10. | :25:12.
weather on the with some blue skies, like these over the Tyne | :25:13. | :25:18.
Valley. Thank you to John for this shot. Tomorrow, most places will | :25:19. | :25:24.
have some decent sunshine, and the odd passing shower. It will not be | :25:25. | :25:29.
too windy. We have got rain on the way, working its way up from the | :25:30. | :25:33.
South as we speak. I do not think it will quite make it up to the | :25:34. | :25:36.
Scottish Borders, but most places will see some fairly heavy bursts of | :25:37. | :25:42.
rain and some snow amongst it for a time, before it starts to dry up | :25:43. | :25:50.
again late `` later. We will see one or two icy patches underneath that | :25:51. | :25:54.
cloud. A couple of degrees milder there. The northwesterly breeze | :25:55. | :26:01.
should clear the more persistent rain away very quickly tomorrow | :26:02. | :26:06.
morning. The cloud will lift and break and most places should see | :26:07. | :26:11.
some decent balls of sunshine. One or two passing showers, but they | :26:12. | :26:17.
should not be too bad. There will be a noticeable south`westerly breeze, | :26:18. | :26:25.
that's not too windy tomorrow. It all changes tomorrow night, because | :26:26. | :26:30.
we are getting that next Atlantic flow coming in from the West, and it | :26:31. | :26:34.
will dominate things over the weekend. Things will be quite | :26:35. | :26:40.
changeable as we head into Sunday. Not as bad as it will be in other | :26:41. | :26:44.
parts of the country. Tomorrow, there will be a fair amount of cloud | :26:45. | :26:49.
at times in the West, but mostly dry through the day in that westerly | :26:50. | :26:53.
breeze. Temperatures up to seven or eight degrees at the very best. | :26:54. | :26:57.
Saturday we have got more persistent rain coming in from the West. The | :26:58. | :27:03.
rain will be more showery on Sunday morning, and still one or two | :27:04. | :27:08.
heavier ones west of the Pennines. It is a similar picture for the | :27:09. | :27:12.
North East. Sunshine for tomorrow. The westerly breeze will keep things | :27:13. | :27:16.
reasonably mild. The rain will be more showery on Saturday and the | :27:17. | :27:21.
showers will be fewer and further between on Sunday. You can keep an | :27:22. | :27:28.
up`to`date on the forecast and the free BBC weather app. That is the | :27:29. | :27:33.
way it is looking tonight. That is it for us. Boys only tonight. Are we | :27:34. | :27:39.
still boys Mister Mark we are back tonight at ten `` still boys? We are | :27:40. | :27:42.
back at 10:25pm tonight. Goodbye. | :27:43. | :27:48. |
