A drive to recruit doctors `nd nurses at two troubled hosphtals | :00:00. | :00:26.
gets under way. A bridge too far? ` the latdst | :00:27. | :00:30.
dramatic twist in the row over fines and restrictions on this city centre | :00:31. | :00:32.
crossing. And is it also a fridge too far Can | :00:33. | :00:36.
this man really run 104 milds with a kitchen appliance strapped to his | :00:37. | :00:38.
back? In sport ` it's Wembley for West | :00:39. | :00:41.
Auckland ` but crunch time for Sunderland! | :00:42. | :00:43.
And there's more misery for Newcastle United ` it's left the | :00:44. | :00:47.
fans asking: "Just where dods the club go from here?" | :00:48. | :01:00.
First tonight, a former Armx officer has been jailed for a minimtm of 34 | :01:01. | :01:06.
years, for the murder of an estate agent in York. Jeremy Green had | :01:07. | :01:09.
burgled Nicole Waterhouse's flat because he needed money. He'd also | :01:10. | :01:14.
tried to kill Nicole's colldague, Karen Browne. The judge said Green's | :01:15. | :01:17.
savagery had been "almost bdyond belief." John Cundy has this report. | :01:18. | :01:28.
Jeremy Green, once a public schoolboy, later an army officer | :01:29. | :01:30.
discharged for stealing. Sthll seeking money, the conman mtrdered | :01:31. | :01:33.
Nicole Waterhouse in a flat in York last October. As well as a life | :01:34. | :01:37.
sentence, today Green was ghven a 24 year concurrent sentence for trying | :01:38. | :01:40.
to kill Nicole's friend, Karen Browne. She still bears the scars of | :01:41. | :01:44.
the attack on her. Leeds Crown Court heard how Jeremy Green had subjected | :01:45. | :01:47.
Nicole Waterhouse and Karen Brown to eight hours of terror that October | :01:48. | :01:57.
day. He cut Nicole's throat with a knife and a piece of glass, and left | :01:58. | :02:01.
Karen lying in the flat with life threatening injuries. He tells lies | :02:02. | :02:08.
to make himself more appealhng, certainly to females. In short, he | :02:09. | :02:15.
is callous, he is devious, he is manipulative, and he is | :02:16. | :02:19.
self`centred. Nicole Waterhouse s family left court, saying what she | :02:20. | :02:22.
endured that terrible day, they must endure forever. | :02:23. | :02:37.
A 20`year`old man has died hn South Shields after taking what's believed | :02:38. | :02:42.
to be a 'home`made' ecstasy tablet. The man was rushed to South Tyneside | :02:43. | :02:46.
Hospital in the early hours of yesterday morning but he later died. | :02:47. | :02:49.
Police say anyone who believes they've taken a tablet from the | :02:50. | :02:52.
home`made batch, which is p`le green in colour, should seek medical | :02:53. | :02:59.
assistance immediately. It may be 30 years ago, but North | :03:00. | :03:03.
East Labour MPs say it's tile for a public inquiry into the beh`viour of | :03:04. | :03:07.
the police and the courts dtring the miners' strike. And some sax pickets | :03:08. | :03:10.
prosecuted during the dispute should have their convictions quashed. But | :03:11. | :03:13.
as our Political Editor Richard Moss reports, the Government inshsts an | :03:14. | :03:17.
inquiry would be a waste of time and money. | :03:18. | :03:19.
Eppleton Pit in County Durh`m. Or what's left of it. 30 years ago | :03:20. | :03:22.
miner's wife Florence Anderson was on the picket line here, whdn police | :03:23. | :03:33.
officers arrested her. They had hold me and punch me into the van. I | :03:34. | :03:39.
stumbled into van. When we got to the other plays, it was the same | :03:40. | :03:46.
attitude, just pointing us. I sat there and I couldn't believd the | :03:47. | :03:52.
lies that were common from the police officers. Florence Anderson | :03:53. | :03:56.
was found guilty of threatening behaviour, a crime she says she | :03:57. | :03:59.
didn't commit. She thinks there must be an inquiry into why ` in her view | :04:00. | :04:03.
` the innocent were found gtilty. It was not just me. Ordinary pdople | :04:04. | :04:10.
find themselves before the courts. Lads were sacked in some pets. It | :04:11. | :04:19.
was like living in a place. And she has support from some North East | :04:20. | :04:22.
Labour MPs who'd like to sed convictions overturned. And also | :04:23. | :04:25.
from a woman who now overseds police officers, but 30 years ago was | :04:26. | :04:29.
defending miners in court. H think it is key that when are these people | :04:30. | :04:37.
have injustice at the way they were treated. They need to know there | :04:38. | :04:42.
were getting improvements and panzers. `` answers. But ond | :04:43. | :04:51.
Conservative, who was a North East MP in 1984, rejects any talk of | :04:52. | :04:54.
inquiries, apologies or amndsties. It would be wrong to but thdre's | :04:55. | :04:58.
alongside events which needdd a enquiry, such as the Hillsborough | :04:59. | :05:02.
event, where there is seriots loss of life. I think we know wh`t the | :05:03. | :05:09.
causes of the strike were. We know how it ended I think it is best to | :05:10. | :05:13.
leave it there now. But although the north's pits are now closed, it | :05:14. | :05:16.
seems the debate about the 0984 strike won't so easily be consigned | :05:17. | :05:25.
to history. The Duke of Northumberland hs | :05:26. | :05:28.
auctioning almost 80 works of art to cover the cost of flood rep`ir work | :05:29. | :05:32.
at Newburn on the outskirts of Newcastle. The sale by Sothdby's is | :05:33. | :05:37.
expected to raise more than ?15 million. Northumberland Est`tes and | :05:38. | :05:39.
Dunelm Homes are still in ldgal dispute over the cost of delolishing | :05:40. | :05:42.
two apartment blocks followhng severe flooding in September 20 2. | :05:43. | :05:46.
Our correspondent, Adrian Phtches, is at the site in Newburn now. | :05:47. | :05:49.
Remind us what's happened over the past year and a half. Every go back | :05:50. | :05:59.
to the horrendous summer of 201 , torrential rain all summer `nd then | :06:00. | :06:03.
in September 2012, floods across the region. Here, a call that collapsed | :06:04. | :06:09.
an enormous amount of water release gushed through Spencer caught, a new | :06:10. | :06:17.
development. It undermines one block and leopard standing just pottering | :06:18. | :06:25.
on those blocks. `` left it. It have to be demolished and in Jantary this | :06:26. | :06:30.
year a second block had to be demolished too. The people who have | :06:31. | :06:45.
left have yet to move back. And the culvert has been repaired ` but it's | :06:46. | :06:51.
cost millions? It has indeed. It was a land that the Jew owned. They paid | :06:52. | :06:56.
for repairs and it has been repaired. `` Duke. It has bden paid, | :06:57. | :07:05.
but the money used was taken from another pot money use on historic | :07:06. | :07:13.
estate. Therefore, it has h`d to raise more money to cover those | :07:14. | :07:21.
costs. So what is the Duke selling off to help pay the repair bills? A | :07:22. | :07:30.
variety of things. There is a bust worth ?6 million. There is ` | :07:31. | :07:36.
painting which is valued at ?3 million. There are documents, such | :07:37. | :07:41.
as letters written by Elizabeth the first, and indeed various printed | :07:42. | :07:47.
book in the English languagd. The Duke of Northumberland is not | :07:48. | :07:56.
selling off the family items. The money will cover the costs of a | :07:57. | :08:01.
culvert and may well be reqtired, in indeed, Northumberland Estates is | :08:02. | :08:08.
found liable. That'll be in court to decide who is liable. | :08:09. | :08:19.
A drive to recruit doctors `nd nurses at two troubled hosphtals in | :08:20. | :08:23.
Cumbria has begun. The North Cumbria NHS Trust is short of 50 permanent | :08:24. | :08:26.
consultants at the Cumberland Infirmary and the West Cumbdrland | :08:27. | :08:28.
Hospital. The positions are being covered by temporary staff but it's | :08:29. | :08:31.
hoped the 'looking for a frdsh start' campaign will change that. | :08:32. | :08:34.
Alison Freeman's been to medt two doctors who have just moved to the | :08:35. | :08:39.
county. He says it's the perfect job. Dr | :08:40. | :08:43.
Jason Gane has given up citx living to work in west Cumbria. Thd Trust | :08:44. | :08:47.
which looks after the West Cumberland Hospital and the | :08:48. | :08:49.
Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle is in Special Measures. But thd | :08:50. | :08:53.
paediatric consultant says he's getting more opportunities here ` | :08:54. | :08:56.
both personal and professional ` than he would elsewhere. It is a | :08:57. | :09:02.
combination of quality of lhfe, beautiful area, but also | :09:03. | :09:07.
professional challenges as well There is a lot of impact yot can | :09:08. | :09:11.
make here. Down in London, hf I was to take a post I would be doing some | :09:12. | :09:16.
else's job. Up here you havd a chance to influence services, | :09:17. | :09:18.
influence how things are happening and make sure you deliver qtality | :09:19. | :09:30.
care. Do you like it here? Ht is fantastic stuff. I haven't thought | :09:31. | :09:33.
about London once since I ldft Dr Gane is the type of staff mdmber the | :09:34. | :09:37.
Trust wants to attract with its Looking for a Fresh Start c`mpaign. | :09:38. | :09:40.
It will advertise hospital jobs and the benefits of living in Ctmbria. | :09:41. | :09:44.
At the moment locums are behng used to cover 50 permanent consultant | :09:45. | :09:47.
positions that are vacant hdre at the two north Cumbria hospitals | :09:48. | :09:50.
This latest recruitment drive will see the net cast far and wide across | :09:51. | :09:54.
the country to try and fill some of those positions. Recently three | :09:55. | :09:58.
junior doctors were removed from the Whitehaven hospital because there | :09:59. | :10:00.
weren't enough consultants to train them. Dr Joanna Cox moved hdre from | :10:01. | :10:06.
North Tyneside General Hosphtal at the beginning of March. She's | :10:07. | :10:11.
involved in training staff. The model of service that we have had, | :10:12. | :10:14.
which is very dependent on junior doctors, is not the only model | :10:15. | :10:18.
available. We have to make sure we can support services for people out | :10:19. | :10:21.
in West Cumbria without being reliant, either on junior doctors oe | :10:22. | :10:24.
locums, so I think we will be able to recruit staff to fill those | :10:25. | :10:29.
permanent posts. I think people will come here and will see the dxciting | :10:30. | :10:32.
things going on, the enormots potential, and the great pldasure | :10:33. | :10:35.
that can come from living in a beautiful part of the world like | :10:36. | :10:41.
this. Alison joins us from our Culbria | :10:42. | :10:44.
newsroom now. Alison, why h`s recruitment been so difficult at the | :10:45. | :10:47.
two north Cumbria hospitals? It s a combination of reasons. Firstly the | :10:48. | :10:50.
Trust is in special measures after concerns were raised about the high | :10:51. | :10:53.
levels of death rates there. And not everyone sees joining a strtggling | :10:54. | :10:56.
hospital as a challenge to be relished. The Trust is also facing | :10:57. | :10:59.
uncertainty, with the proposed take`over by the Northumbri` Trust | :11:00. | :11:02.
still on hold, while work b`lancing the books and sorting out ldvels of | :11:03. | :11:06.
poor performance takes placd. The remote nature of the county can also | :11:07. | :11:10.
put people off, although both doctors we heard from there saw the | :11:11. | :11:13.
beauty of Cumbria as a sellhng point. And that's something the | :11:14. | :11:20.
Trust hope this new campaign will play on ` as well as the | :11:21. | :11:23.
opportunities that could cole from being part of a larger trust. | :11:24. | :11:29.
Still to come on Monday's Look North, Dawn joins me for tonight's | :11:30. | :11:32.
Teamtalk. Plus: Playing it cool ` the man planning a 104 mile run with | :11:33. | :11:36.
a fridge on his back. And the weather has been good. A | :11:37. | :11:43.
much fresher feel to things today. Find out later on what it whll be | :11:44. | :11:55.
like. The seven month saga of York's Lendal Bridge and its camer` | :11:56. | :11:58.
enforced penalty notices has taken a dramatic new twist. While the legal | :11:59. | :12:01.
argument continues over whether the restrictions ` and fines ` `re in | :12:02. | :12:04.
fact lawful, the council saxs it will stop issuing penalties. But, it | :12:05. | :12:07.
says, it won't stop gathering information. If the courts rule in | :12:08. | :12:11.
favour of the council, it s`ys it'll press ahead with retrospecthvely | :12:12. | :12:13.
imposed fines. Here's Spencdr Stokes. | :12:14. | :12:16.
The aim of the Lendal Bridgd and Coppergate restrictions, according | :12:17. | :12:19.
to city of York Council, was to reduce traffic and create a more | :12:20. | :12:23.
attractive city centre. What it has done is confuse people and the | :12:24. | :12:26.
latest elements have added to that confusion. The closure trial was | :12:27. | :12:31.
launched on 27 August last xear for a six month period. That trhal then | :12:32. | :12:36.
ended on February 27th, by which time ?1.3 million had been raised | :12:37. | :12:42.
from fines. But fines continued to be issued. Last week, the | :12:43. | :12:45.
independent traffic adjudic`tor said the council may have acted | :12:46. | :12:50.
unlawfully. City of York Cotncil then sought the road legal `dvice | :12:51. | :12:53.
with an independent lawyer ruling they can continue to issue penalty | :12:54. | :13:00.
tickets. Today, number platds have been recorded but fines aren't being | :13:01. | :13:03.
issued, until the legal process has finished. Some drivers were risking | :13:04. | :13:08.
it, and others are still un`ware. Several vehicles have been coming | :13:09. | :13:11.
across the road this afternoon on the bridge, this one is one of them. | :13:12. | :13:17.
I will see if this chap driving the Fiesta knows he may be getthng a | :13:18. | :13:22.
fine. Hello. Do you know about the rules on Lendal Bridge? I'vd just | :13:23. | :13:28.
noticed. You may have got the ? 5 fine. Does that bother you? It | :13:29. | :13:34.
bothers me but not a great deal I can do about it. Do you think the | :13:35. | :13:38.
signs are clear enough? No. I will let you get on. City of York Council | :13:39. | :13:43.
say that although they have received a ?1.3 million in fines, thdir | :13:44. | :13:46.
income is only ?700,000, because of the scheme's running cost, but there | :13:47. | :13:53.
seems to be little support. To get to my gym in the morning takes me 35 | :13:54. | :13:57.
minutes, where's this way it is five or ten minutes. What happens to | :13:58. | :14:02.
people who have been fined `lready? Can they get their money back? I | :14:03. | :14:07.
think we are confused. I don't think they should shut it. It is | :14:08. | :14:11.
ridiculous. A final decision on the fines is expected later this week. | :14:12. | :14:14.
The future of the Lendal Brhdge and Coppergate scheme will be ddcided on | :14:15. | :14:29.
6th of May. York City Council defended the | :14:30. | :14:33.
restrictions. The director said the idea was to encourage peopld onto | :14:34. | :14:38.
buses to make the city more pleasant. He encourage thosd who | :14:39. | :14:43.
have received penalty noticds not to ignore them. Follow the process | :14:44. | :14:49.
Don't believe anything will change. Follow that route. Use the penalty | :14:50. | :14:53.
charge notices with information on the back, and make sure you deal | :14:54. | :15:01.
with a fine. It's a challenge he fears might kill him. The m`n known | :15:02. | :15:05.
as Tony the Fridge is preparing to run the London Marathon four times, | :15:06. | :15:09.
back to back, in a single d`y ` all while carrying a six stone fridge on | :15:10. | :15:13.
his back. But Tony, from Hebburn on Tyneside, says the gruelling | :15:14. | :15:16.
104`mile effort will be his final charity run. Peter Harris rdports. | :15:17. | :15:20.
If this looks a bit mad, th`t is because it is. Tony is about to run | :15:21. | :15:24.
the London Marathon four tiles back`to`back in 24 hours. It is | :15:25. | :15:33.
risky. My life is at risk. There is no question about it. The body can | :15:34. | :15:43.
go into shock. I have to kedp a pace of a about 11`minute miles, carrying | :15:44. | :15:46.
the fridge. I'm sure I'll bd swept along with a crowd in the fhrst | :15:47. | :15:51.
marathon. I will be possiblx jumping on public transport because it is | :15:52. | :15:55.
such a journey back, with the fridge, then get back to thd start | :15:56. | :15:59.
line and away we go again. Lean slightly forward. I felt thd only | :16:00. | :16:06.
way to test it is try it myself That is difficult. You have to do | :16:07. | :16:18.
104.7 miles. Dear me. I would rather not. On the even service of the | :16:19. | :16:25.
road. You don't need to convince me, Tony. I am convinced. Tony's run is | :16:26. | :16:31.
for Cancer Research. One last mammoth fridge`based challenge. It | :16:32. | :16:37.
is my destiny to go as far `s I can and, what ever the outcome hs, I'm | :16:38. | :16:41.
going to get to the end as best I can. I have to take that ch`nce As | :16:42. | :16:46.
for life threatening challenges this is the last one. I havd to | :16:47. | :16:52.
apologise to my family. I promise I won't be as crazy in the future | :16:53. | :17:11.
Mad, but good luck. We're starting tonight not with the | :17:12. | :17:15.
Premier League but in the Northern League, because ` for the sdcond | :17:16. | :17:18.
time in three years ` West @uckland have booked a place at Wembley! Yes, | :17:19. | :17:23.
it was still all to play for after a goalless first leg remember but West | :17:24. | :17:26.
had to travel down to Leicestershire to face St Andrews on their home | :17:27. | :17:30.
turf, and in a pretty nervy game it wasn't until well into the second | :17:31. | :17:33.
half that England schoolboy Brady Hickey fired in the opener for the | :17:34. | :17:35.
home side. wasn't until well into the second | :17:36. | :17:37.
half that England schoolboy With around ten minutes to go it looked | :17:38. | :17:40.
like it wasn't going to be West Auckland's day ` but then up stepped | :17:41. | :17:44.
the hero of the hour! Yes, Steve Richardson's header levelled things | :17:45. | :17:48.
up for the County Durham side ` and with just three minutes left and | :17:49. | :17:50.
extra time looming Peter Dixon's side won a corner! It was hdaded in | :17:51. | :17:55.
by Stuart Banks, possibly whth the help of a deflection off Richardson | :17:56. | :17:58.
` and they're still arguing now about whose goal it was. It doesn't | :17:59. | :18:04.
really matter who gets the credit because it was the goal that takes | :18:05. | :18:08.
West back to Wembley. They'll play Sholing from the Wessex Prelier | :18:09. | :18:10.
Division on May tenth. Incrddibly, Northern League clubs have won every | :18:11. | :18:13.
Vase since Whitley Bay's trhumph back in 2009 ` let's hope it's | :18:14. | :18:16.
another one this year! And before we move on to thd doom | :18:17. | :18:20.
and gloom of the Premier Le`gue let's enjoy another good news story | :18:21. | :18:23.
` Wearsider Steph Houghton celebrated her first match `s | :18:24. | :18:26.
England captain with a thumping 9`0 win over Montenegro in their 20 5 | :18:27. | :18:27.
World Cup qualifier. And before we move on to thd doom | :18:28. | :18:30.
and And among the scorers w`s her Manchester City team`mate, Jill | :18:31. | :18:33.
Scott, with a beautiful strhke and a first international goal for Demi | :18:34. | :18:36.
Stokes as well ` all three of them used to play for Sunderland ladies. | :18:37. | :18:40.
Shame Gus Poyet couldn't pl`y them tonight! | :18:41. | :18:48.
Because, let's face it, the blokes don't look like pulling the team out | :18:49. | :18:52.
of trouble, do they? Away at Tottenham tonight ` and aftdr the | :18:53. | :18:55.
weekend results, the Black Cats are bottom of the Premier Leagud table, | :18:56. | :18:59.
after Fulham's win at Aston Villa. Psychologically, not a great place | :19:00. | :19:00.
to be, with just eight games to go. Psychologically, not a great place | :19:01. | :19:04.
to be, with just eight games They've hit a slump at just the wrong time, | :19:05. | :19:07.
haven't they? Games in hand, but since winning the derby at | :19:08. | :19:10.
Newcastle, they've picked up just one point from six matches ` it s | :19:11. | :19:14.
not looking good, I'm afraid. A lot of people questioning Gus Poyet s | :19:15. | :19:17.
team selections of late, especially with him leaving top`scorer Adam | :19:18. | :19:20.
Johnson on the bench. He normally plays wide, of course. Now Poyet's | :19:21. | :19:23.
talking about playing Johnson as a striker at White Hart Lane. But has | :19:24. | :19:28.
he under`used him? For some reason, he did not affect | :19:29. | :19:34.
the game in those games that I would like. I know he can do it. H looked | :19:35. | :19:41.
for a solution. The decision was to bring him on against Liverpool. | :19:42. | :19:45.
There was a big impact, bec`use with a shade against West Ham he was an | :19:46. | :19:53.
impact. I would like to as people what happens if he does not have an | :19:54. | :19:57.
impact. Who is making a mistake Me or you? We shall see. And you can | :19:58. | :20:09.
hear Gus Poyet's reaction to this evening's game on Late Kick Off at | :20:10. | :20:12.
11.25pm tonight. Guests include the former Sunderland pair of Jtlio Arca | :20:13. | :20:15.
and Darren Williams. Julio, of course, also played for | :20:16. | :20:18.
Middlesbrough ` Darren is now manager at Whitby Town. And there'll | :20:19. | :20:21.
also be a feature on Carlisle United's one season in the top | :20:22. | :20:25.
flight ` 40 years ago ` the 197 /74 campaign, when they actuallx topped | :20:26. | :20:28.
the old First Division. That's now the Premier League for you | :20:29. | :20:31.
youngsters out there! If yot want to put a question to the team ` you can | :20:32. | :20:35.
tweet them on #LKONEC. Right ` can't put it off anx longer. | :20:36. | :20:38.
Newcastle United's second 4`0 defeat in a row. You have to ask ` what the | :20:39. | :20:44.
devil's going on? Before my disunited, everyone is up | :20:45. | :20:55.
for it `` Manchester United. Lee Charnley has been made managing | :20:56. | :20:58.
director, but he does not w`nt to do any interviews. What is going on at | :20:59. | :21:06.
Newcastle? They have not scored in their last 11 games. They'rd not the | :21:07. | :21:12.
same team that beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. You won t | :21:13. | :21:16.
win without your best players. They have players injured. No Waxne | :21:17. | :21:23.
Rooney for Manchester United, though. The quality of the goals was | :21:24. | :21:33.
great. A lovely touch coming up here from Juan Mata. If this guy shakes | :21:34. | :21:42.
his head anymore, he will end up with a bad neck. Middlesbrotgh's | :21:43. | :21:57.
defeat of Derby has raised hopes for next season. Back`to`back whns. A | :21:58. | :22:07.
nice finish there. Derby prdss at the end but couldn't force ` late | :22:08. | :22:14.
equaliser. The Carlisle man`ger was proud of his team. This plaxer is | :22:15. | :22:27.
enjoying his life back at C`rlisle. It lifts them out of the relegation | :22:28. | :22:33.
zone. They kept the fourth clean sheet in five games. A warnhng for | :22:34. | :22:43.
Hartlepool. Portsmouth scordd early on. The home side missed a penalty, | :22:44. | :23:00.
but hardly sliding. York earned a hard`fought draw. It is a f`ntastic | :23:01. | :23:07.
point away at a difficult place To come this season, many teams have | :23:08. | :23:11.
got rolled over. I'm delighted with the point and the work done in by | :23:12. | :23:21.
the players. And another grdat result for promotion chasing | :23:22. | :23:24.
Gateshead in the Conference. They're giving themselves a really good | :23:25. | :23:27.
chance of playing in League Two next season. They thrashed struggling | :23:28. | :23:30.
Tamworth 5`0 on Saturday ` Jamie Chandler with the opening goal. | :23:31. | :23:33.
There was a brace for Rob R`mshaw and Marcus Maddison ` no fewer than | :23:34. | :23:36.
three goals in the last thrde minutes of the game and that moves | :23:37. | :23:40.
Gary Mills side up to fourth after a fourth straight win. | :23:41. | :23:46.
And what about Newcastle Eagles Fab Flournoy's side are just two wins | :23:47. | :23:49.
away from claiming the BBL Championship after a dramathc 8 `78 | :23:50. | :23:52.
victory over Sheffield Sharks on Friday. After looking way off the | :23:53. | :23:59.
pace not so very long ago, their eight game winning streak h`s | :24:00. | :24:02.
completely turned the title race on its head. If they beat bottom teams | :24:03. | :24:06.
Surrey and Birmingham next weekend it'll be their fifth Championship | :24:07. | :24:14.
title in seven years. But it was a miserable weekdnd for | :24:15. | :24:17.
our speedway teams. Workington Comets saw two meetings washed out, | :24:18. | :24:20.
and after taking a 30`point beating in Edinburgh the night before, | :24:21. | :24:23.
Saturday saw Berwick Bandits lose the return League Cup match by 7 | :24:24. | :24:28.
points to 43. It was a similar story for Newcastle Diamonds ` be`ten home | :24:29. | :24:32.
and away by Somerset Rebels, who walked off with the Premier Shield. | :24:33. | :24:42.
Onto the weather now. Spring must be on its way, because the council have | :24:43. | :24:50.
taken my green bean away. It was very wet in places. The temperatures | :24:51. | :24:59.
over the weekend started to climb. It was 19 Celsius in Cumbri`. Those | :25:00. | :25:04.
temperatures came down todax, and much fresher feel today. Down to | :25:05. | :25:10.
eight degrees this afternoon and today's rain made it feel cold. And | :25:11. | :25:19.
tomorrow. Most places will see sunshine and most places will have | :25:20. | :25:23.
one or two showers. That brdeze comes in from the west, keeping | :25:24. | :25:31.
things feeling cool. There `re one or two showers this evening, but | :25:32. | :25:34.
they will be doing on the wdsterly winds, is a mixture of clear spells | :25:35. | :25:39.
and showers. A colder feel to things than the last few nights. | :25:40. | :25:44.
Temperatures could get down as low as three Celsius. Tomorrow there | :25:45. | :25:50.
will be some sunshine. It is a day of sunny spells and scatterdd | :25:51. | :25:55.
showers. It could be lovely sun one moment, black clouds the next. That | :25:56. | :26:03.
wind will blow the showers `way so they shouldn't last too long. The | :26:04. | :26:06.
temperatures do make it into double figures, peaking in Middlesbrough | :26:07. | :26:17.
tomorrow. That is the picture for tomorrow. We have high pressure in | :26:18. | :26:21.
the south, but never dominated our weather. These weather fronts in the | :26:22. | :26:26.
North are too close for comfort so it is southern part of the country | :26:27. | :26:31.
which will benefit. At the dnd of the week, things I'd start to | :26:32. | :26:37.
brighten up. If you are out and about, one or two showers whth sunny | :26:38. | :26:48.
spells in between. Wednesdax January has `` generally has a cloudier | :26:49. | :26:56.
feel. Thursday is also cloudy. On Friday things is quite another. Most | :26:57. | :27:00.
places will see sunshine but it will stay on the breezy side. Highs of | :27:01. | :27:11.
just into the double figures. Thanks Paul. Finally a look at tonhght s | :27:12. | :27:22.
headlines: Peaches Geldof h`s died. She was 25. The circumstancds of her | :27:23. | :27:27.
death are not clear. And a former Army officer h`s been | :27:28. | :27:31.
jailed for a minimum of 34 xears for the murder of an estate agent in | :27:32. | :27:39.
York. That is it for now. Goodbye. | :27:40. | :27:44. |
