Good evening. Friends who wdre with Teesside student Matthew Jordan the

night he went missing insist somebody knows more about hhs

disappearance. The 20`year`old was last seen on a night out in

Bowness`on`Windermere more than two weeks ago. His friends and family

have been searching the are`. Mark McAlindon reports.

Once again, volunteers and search teams are out scouring everx inch of

spare ground for any clues of Matthew's whereabouts. Frenzy came

here with do not believe th`t Matthew would do anything d`ft. He

would not had towards water, no matter how drunk he was. He was in

no state whatsoever, he would not have gone towards the water.

Somebody out there has information, whether it is only small, a

sighting, or whether they know where he has gone. Somebody out there

knows something. You just w`nt them to come forward. Locals and

holiday`makers alike are working from the headquarters set up at a

local school. Matthew's pardnts came to thank them. We are thankful that

they are turning out. And the police ice Yuji appreciative. If you don't

look, you will not find anything, so I think it is very

well`intentioned, very well`meaning, and I think it is the

right thing that the family want to do to try to bring Matthew home

Police divers were in action again today but said there in the is were

purely routine. More than 50 miles of coast`l

pathway have been officiallx opened. There are two stretches, ond in the

North East and another in Ctmbria. They are the first two trails to be

opened as part of a project which will give walkers access rights to

all of the region's coastline. Andrew Hartley has the detahls.

Seaham Beach, along the route of the first stretch in the North Dast of

the England Coast Path. 34 liles from Hartlepool to Sunderland,

taking in the rugged beauty of Durham's coastline. It is brand`new

access, with a new fight brhdge down there, new clifftop path with superb

views. People are already using it. As soon as we constructed this,

people were out there straightaway using it. On the West coast of our

region, another 20 miles is being opened up between Allonby and

Whitehaven, with full access rights to the rest of our region's

coastline due around 2020. But the network is facing criticism from

some landowners who claim the path will damage their businesses. Our

concern is that this is a vdry expensive approach to achieving

this. This is new access whhch has been put across land without any

compensation, so it is against all the natural justice in this country.

But Natural England claims that the route will in fact bring in money to

the local economy because of the tourism boost.

York's Lendal Bridge has fully reopened to traffic. The

controversial signs telling motorists they couldn't cross during

the daytime were put up in @ugust. Since then 57,000 fines havd been

issued. The traffic regulator ruled there were no legal grounds for the

penalties. Football now, and in the Prdmier

League Newcastle lost 1`0 at Stoke. And another poor result for

Sunderland, who slipped closer to relegation with a 1`0 defeat to

Everton. In the Championship, Middlesbrough beat promotion`chasing

Burnley 1`0. And in League One Carlisle slipped back into the

relegation zone, losing 6`1 at Preston. In League Two Hartlepool

lost 2`1 to Chesterfield, and York drew 1`1 with Accrington. And in the

Scottish League Two, Berwick beat Elgin 3`1.

Let's see what the weather's got in store for us for the rest of the

weekend ` here's Jen Bartral. A disappointing day in some

respects. We have had a lot of cloud around. There are some clear spells

overnight, but the cloud will start if they can once again. It stays

fairly chilly overnight, with temperatures dropping to about six

Celsius. There could be a touch of ground frost in rural spots. On

Sunday, many of us will see spells of sunshine.

what has been going on over the last few hours. This band of cloud has

been slipping south across England and Wales. A bit of patchy rain to
