Good evening. back with the late news at 10pm. | :00:00. | :00:13.
Good evening. After months of preparation, today | :00:14. | :00:16.
saw the performance of The Great North Passion. The event, retelling | :00:17. | :00:18.
the Good Friday story through performance and artworks, drew in | :00:19. | :00:21.
communities from around the North`East and was staged in a | :00:22. | :00:24.
makeshift cathedral of shipping containers. Thousands of people were | :00:25. | :00:27.
in Bents Park in South Shields to watch the spectacle, which was | :00:28. | :00:30.
broadcast live to a national audience here on BBC One. Julie | :00:31. | :00:33.
Smith reports. All the hard work and finally on show. This is the Great | :00:34. | :00:36.
North Passion. # With my loving arms wrapped around | :00:37. | :00:40.
you. Alongside national stars, communities from across our region | :00:41. | :00:45.
marking Easter's significance. What a way to kick`off Easter and | :00:46. | :00:49.
understand what it is about and be reminded what it is about. It is a | :00:50. | :00:55.
real honour to be here. I used to sing Amazing Grace with my mum in | :00:56. | :00:59.
church so it was nice to be able to sing it today. Today we are dancing | :01:00. | :01:03.
to show the burden of Jesus Christ on the cross. We have been meeting | :01:04. | :01:07.
twice a week and it has been great fun. I'm just looking forward to | :01:08. | :01:11.
getting a chance to perform, to get out there and rock it. The energy | :01:12. | :01:16.
being shown here today has been capturing hearts and minds and of | :01:17. | :01:19.
course, all across the nation people have been enjoying what South | :01:20. | :01:23.
Shields has shown to be the story of the crucifixion. It was absolutely | :01:24. | :01:37.
brilliant. It brought the story into everyday living today in the | :01:38. | :01:43.
north`east. Ten out of ten. The sound quality was really good. There | :01:44. | :01:47.
is a lovely mix of the community spirit and the story of the passion | :01:48. | :01:50.
going on together. # Where do hearts go... | :01:51. | :01:55.
The artwork can still be seen on site and is open to the public | :01:56. | :01:58.
between 12:00pm and 4:00pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday. | :01:59. | :02:08.
A body found in the River Ouse in York is that of a missing soldier. | :02:09. | :02:14.
18`year`old Tyler Pearson vanished three weeks ago. It's thought he | :02:15. | :02:19.
tried to swim across the river. His body was recovered at Skeldergate | :02:20. | :02:25.
bridge yesterday. When 15,000 people turned up to | :02:26. | :02:29.
watch last year's Rugby League World Cup matches in Workington, it was | :02:30. | :02:32.
proof that west Cumbria remains a hotbed of the sport. But a study is | :02:33. | :02:36.
under way into the game's future in the area, with one possibility of a | :02:37. | :02:39.
merger of Workington and Whitehaven. Mark McAlindon met fans at the | :02:40. | :02:42.
clubs' Good Friday derby match. When this review was first | :02:43. | :02:45.
announced, this is what an official from the sport's governing body told | :02:46. | :02:48.
us ` that there were no preconceptions. We want to run a | :02:49. | :02:51.
consultation where people actually give as their views and back it with | :02:52. | :02:55.
evidence, so that we can come to whatever conclusion is best for West | :02:56. | :02:59.
Cumbria. But roads of both Whitehaven and Workington are down | :03:00. | :03:05.
and life is a financial struggle. `` crowds. So what do the fans arriving | :03:06. | :03:10.
here for the first meeting of the two rival clubs since the | :03:11. | :03:13.
announcement make of it? The area is not big enough to support two clubs. | :03:14. | :03:17.
If a club did merge, I would probably support that as well. I | :03:18. | :03:21.
would look at how each club can increase crowds rather than merge. | :03:22. | :03:26.
It would be advantageous for the area. The support's there, I think, | :03:27. | :03:28.
unfortunately, the separate entities don't have the population to support | :03:29. | :03:34.
a top team. On the pitch, the passion is as evident as ever. Not | :03:35. | :03:39.
just those here today but the thousands of fans in this region | :03:40. | :03:43.
will need to wait and see what the report recommends. That match ended | :03:44. | :03:57.
with a 22 16 victory for Whitehaven. Carlisle drew with Walsall, York | :03:58. | :04:03.
beat Oxford United, and Gateshead drew with Southport. | :04:04. | :04:07.
A North Yorkshire farm has had a rather unusual arrival in time for | :04:08. | :04:11.
Easter. A baby camel has been born, much to its owners' surprise. | :04:12. | :04:16.
Jonathan Swingler reports. At this time of year the farm | :04:17. | :04:20.
normally looks like this. So it was a bit of a surprise when he turned | :04:21. | :04:24.
up. Especially as there aren't any male camels at the farm. They didn't | :04:25. | :04:33.
know Dorris the mum was expecting. They bought her last May in | :04:34. | :04:36.
Cornwall, where she must have had a male friend. It turns out camels can | :04:37. | :04:40.
be pregnant for up to 15 months. He's just a few | :04:41. | :04:46.
sat down. Half an hour later, the nose and feet started to come, and | :04:47. | :04:49.
the rest is history. It was literally half an hour from start to | :04:50. | :04:53.
finish from the onset. They have had plenty of lambs here over the years | :04:54. | :04:57.
but this is the first Easter they have had a camel. | :04:58. | :05:02.
Let's take a look at the Easter weekend weather forecast now with | :05:03. | :05:11.
Hannah Bayman. Things look good through this evening. Late sunshine, | :05:12. | :05:15.
then after dark it stays dry and clear. It will be quite cold | :05:16. | :05:23.
temperatures close to freezing. Over the next couple of days, there will | :05:24. | :05:29.
be a change in the weather. Tomorrow looks fine and dry, particularly in | :05:30. | :05:35.
the West and North Northumberland. Notice the cloud that spills into | :05:36. | :05:39.
the south later in the afternoon. Things should stay dry, but a little | :05:40. | :05:44.
less bright than today. Tom temperature tomorrow 15 Celsius. Not | :05:45. | :05:52.
quite as mild in the north`east. Easter day sees the weather turned | :05:53. | :05:56.
gloomy across the north`east, well Cumbria stays fine | :05:57. | :06:01.
Today we have seen temperatures rising if Scotland but again | :06:02. | :06:15.
tonight, with the clear skies and light wind temperatures will fall | :06:16. | :06:18.
sharply, and for many of us, we are looking at a touch of frost. The | :06:19. | :06:22.
satellite picture tells a story nicely. This belt of cloud is | :06:23. | :06:25.
sitting in the far north-west of Scotland, we have had this cloud | :06:26. | :06:30.
bubbling up across eastern areas and with the northerly wind it has felt | :06:31. | :06:33.
cold in East Anglia. That cloud is going to melt away, we will get an | :06:34. | :06:36.
easterly breeze picking the cloud back in again later in the night in | :06:37. | :06:40.
eastern areas and we still have this cloud and rain in the far north-west | :06:41. | :06:44.
of Scotland, but for most we will have clear sky, light wind, Ness are | :06:45. | :06:48.
the temperatures in towns and city, spin it round into | :06:49. | :06:49. |
