Good evening. The region's bank holiday weather forecast in a few

moments, but first around 2000 people turned out for the 10th

annual North Tyneside 10k road race this morning. The event sees club

runners from all over the country follow a course along the coast

Carl Smith from Whitley Bay won the race on home turf as Alison Freeman

reports. An energetic start to Easter Sunday. While many wdre

cracking open their chocolate eggs, these runners were pounding the road

along the North East coast. The annual North Tyneside 10k r`ce is

now in its 10th year. This xear s winner, Carl Smith from Whitley Bay.

It was tough with the wind `long the coast, but I thought I may `s well

wasted on Easter because it is a special anniversary and there are a

lot more years to come for this event. The first woman home was

Debbie Appleton from Essex. A good atmosphere, good fun and a beautiful

view across the sea, so really nice. This challenging coastal route

ends at Saint Mary 's Lighthouse. I am ready for the chocolate. And the

bacon sandwiches. A really cold day. Lunch, a bit of wine, an Easter egg

and time with the family. When we started ten years ago we had 50

runners, but now we have got 20 0 runners. We know it is a social

occasion and people like to run with friends and family and it w`s

heartening today to see everybody coming out on Easter Sunday.

Organisers hope the race will keep on running for decades to come. The

Bishop of Durham has led his first Easter Day service since behng

enthroned. The Right Reverend Paul Butler, took a dawn service of

initiation and communion at Durham Cathedral in which he baptised five

people and then confirmed them along with 20 others from churches across

the dioceses. Bishop Paul g`ve a sermon in which he spoke of fear and

what makes us afraid. Lifeguards are working for free on

one of the North East's most popular beaches this weekend. They `re

patrolling Longsands beach `t Tynemouth. The weekend of volunteer

shifts is a trial and if successful, they hope they will have thdir hours

extended to cover the Easter weekend for years to come.

It is the sixth best beach hn Great Britain and is really popul`r no

matter what the weather. People are always down here and it is ` popular

surfing beach. It is import`nt to have lifeguards down here preventing

any possible risks to the ptblic. Football and who would have thought

it? There is new hope among Sunderland fans that the Bl`ck Cats

may yet escape relegation this season following their victory over

Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday. The win leaves Stnderland

still at the bottom of the table, but within three points of loving

out of the relegation zone. Damian O'Neil reports. What a diffdrence a

football match can make. For weeks Sunderland have been staring into

the abyss with relegation looking increasingly certain, but this

stunning away win at Chelse` has brought a fresh sense of urgency to

the final games of the season. It comes after the Black Cats held

title chasers Manchester City to a 2`2 draw just four days previously

and after manager Gus Poyet said they needed a miracle. Connor

Wickham equalised for Sunderland in the 18th minute after Chelsda opened

the scoring and after sever`l chances for Chelsea Sunderl`nd were

given a penalty when Jozy Altidore was fouled. Fabio Borini didn't

waste the opportunity, inflhcting Jose Mourinho's first home Premier

league defeat in 78 games as Chelsea manager. Sunderland are not out of

trouble yet, but the impact of this victory on their chances of survival

can't be underestimated. Meanwhile Newcastle have now lost

five Premier League games in a row for the first time. They were beaten

2`1 at home by Swansea yestdrday. Shola Ameobi gave the Magpids the

lead, but Wilfried Bony scored twice for the visitors with the whnning

goal coming from the penaltx spot in injury time. It was the last game of

Alan Pardew's touchline ban. To rugby union and in the

premiership Newcastle Falcons lost 23`18 to league leaders Sar`cens at

Kingston Park. With two gamds to go the Falcons are still not s`fe from

relegation. Let's have a look at the region's weather prospects for bank

holiday Monday with Kate Crdwdson. Into tonight it is going to turn

cloudy from the south and wd are looking at missed forming. For most

of us it will be drive for ` time, but cloud will increase frol the

south. There could be a few outbreaks of light rain and

drizzle, mainly over the hills. It is going to be a relatively mild

night, quite breezy as well. Easter Monday stars of fairly cloudy and

quite breezy as well. Cumbrha will see the best of the weather

tomorrow. Elsewhere it is v`riable and there will be some bright and

sunny spells. I risk of a fdw showers on the post later on in the

Hello. Well, it was another lovely sunny day across the north of the

UK. What a difference over the south. The rain set in for the

course of the afternoon. There's more of that to come. It has been

getting heavy across southern England. A narrow band for London,

for the south Midlands, to south Wales and the south west. Lots of

water on the roads. Overnight it will move away out towards the west.

A few showers across northern England and into Northern Ireland

for a time. Otherwise it looks like staying largely dry. A mild night as

well. Nothing like as cold as last night. Just the far north perhaps

seeing temperatures dipping away under clearer skies. A cloudy start

for many of us tomorrow. The sun will break through every now and

then. Areas bordering the Irish Sea looking good as well. You will
