Hello, good evening. Kevan Thakra murdered three men, apparently in

revenge for a less`than`perfect drug deal. Three officers at a prison in

Durham were then stabbed by him in an incident four years ago. Have a

effects lost when he was transferred between jails. But the prison

officers are still awaiting compensation for their injuries.

women. Thakrar was only three years into a life sentence when he lashed

out violently again, stabbing three guards with broken bottle at

my family. Thakrar was cleared of two counts of

attempted murder and three of wounding with intent, claiming he

was suffering from post`traumatic stress disorder because of ill

treatment and racist abuse. Following the attack, he was

transferred from Frankland to a different prison and it was during

this move that some of his possessions went missing. He was

awarded ?225 for damage to positions. He was also awarded ?90

for a number of lost items, and the judge also awarded him a further

?500 to compensate for lost personal items, including photographs. A

grand total of ?815. How much compensation have you received for

your injuries? Absolutely nothing. To hear that he is getting in

damages is quite shocking. They are hospitals in one of the

country's failing health trusts. Now, the Cumberland Infirmary in

Carlisle, the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and the

maternity unit at Penrith Hospital are facing three days of inspections

by the Care Quality Commission. The North Cumbria University Hospitals

Trust has been placed in "special measures". Stephanie Cleasby is with

us. Remind us why that was. The trust was placed in special measures

following higher than normal death rates. There investigation this week

we'll look at eight different areas of the hospital. The woman leading

the inspection team is a former nurse. She said, if it is not good

enough for my family, it should not be good enough for yours. She told

us what she will be looking for. We are looking to see that the

treatment is effective, that it is caving in responsive to their needs.

It also has to be well managed and well laid. It will cover the whole

range of services provided. The trust was to wind up with

Northumberland to get it out of special measures. They see

improvements have been made. The senior nursing grudges are under way

and they have also launched a recruitment drive for more losses,

but there has been worries about staffing levels. We are worried that

they did not have enough nursing staff. To be honest, we did expect

improvements much sooner. Secondly, the question of quality of care, we

know that some of the key has been transferred to Northumbria hospital.

The inspectors want to hear from public and patients about their

experience. To public sessions are being held.

The Conservatives have launched their campaign for next month's

European elections in the North East. Northern Ireland Secretary

Theresa Villiers visited Stockton engineering firm Francis Brown. The

Conservatives currently have one MEP in the region and say they will give

people a greater say on what happens in the European Union. When it comes

to Europe, it is the conservatives who have the right message. Most

people recognise that it has been heading in the wrong direction. They

want it focused on trade and opportunities, such as the

opportunities for businesses like I am visiting today, and that is why

we need a prime minister who will deliver the message. We will then

give people the choice in a referendum.

In addition to the Conservatives, seven other parties are contesting

the European elections in the North East. Here is the list. And, of

No, all night tonight, a blanket of cloud, giving a rather murky picture

overnight. Tomorrow, eagerly start for many. The mist should clear,

especially inland and that is where the best of the sunshine will be.

Celsius. As we head into Wednesday and Thursday, a lot of cloud and
