Good evening. One of Cumbria's most iconic mountains ` Blencathra ` will

go on sale next week with a guide price of ?1.75. `` ?1.57 million.

The mountain is currently owned by Lord Lonsdale and has been in his

family for 400 years. He's told the BBC he needs to sell it to pay an

Inheritance Tax bill. Mark Mcalindon has the story. Blencathra has been

in the earl's family for many years. But his father's death left the

estate with a huge tax bill and pressure to settle it. I have ?9

million in death duties to pay on the death of my father and you're

given ten years to settle that. Well we have only got about 18 months to

go. I put this on the market to save us from having to evict people from

houses and farms and properties and then have to sell them. The earl

hopes the sale can made in the summer. Yes, we believe there is

interest. This is in the over all scheme of things, it is not a lot of

money, when you compare it to a painting or to a piece of jewellery.

It is within the realms of the ability for people to purchase.

Blencathra is what was described as the mountaineer's mountain. What do

you get. Well stunning views across what was once John Peel fox`hunting

country and you get the right to shoot and fish and if right to take

the title Lord of manor. This is unusual, the first time a Lake

District mountain has been sold. Lord Lonsdale is anxious to protect

his tenants. It must be sad, it has been in the family for over 400

years. Yes I be it makes me angry, because that is what the Government

does to us with death duties. The traditional Tyne and Wear May Day

March took place today. This year it paid tribute to Bob Crow, the former

leader of the RMT union, who died in March, and Tony Benn, who died just

a few days later. We kept this event going many year, others have not

kept going. We have had to change the venue, because exhibition Park

isn't available. But we are in a working class and student area. We

have put ourselves on the map of the local community. It's been a

dramatic afternoon of football. Carlisle have been relegated to

League Two, And Sunderland's first win at Old Trafford since 1968 takes

And in the last home game of the season for Newcastle. After losing

their last six games in succession, the Magpies sent Cardiff back to the

Championship after their single season in the Premier League with a

convincing 3`0 win at home. Many enjoyed the moment, but there was a

walk`out from some fans at St James's Park during the 69th minute

` a nod to last time Newcastle won a major trophy in 1969. So the worst

fears of Carlisle United were realised as they failed to stay in

League One, after a 3`0 defeat away at Wolves. Middlesbrough's long trip

south to Yeovil paid`off with a 4`1 win. In League Two, Hartlepool lost

2`0 at home to Exeter. York drew 2`2 away at Scunthorpe. And in the

Scottish League, Berwick lost to Peterhead 2`1. To Rugby, some

fantastic play by the Falcons, but they beaten by London Wasps 44`38.

Hello, through this evening we are going to have cloud increasing from

the north`west with patchy rain, mainly in the west. Towards dawn

that will get heavier and more persistent. It will be dry, but

cloudy with some hill fog. Lows around even or eight degrees.

Tomorrow morning a cloudy start. Some light rain continue on and off

throughout the day. Temperatures up to 14 degrees. A light

Good evening. It was a cold, even frosty start to the Bank Holiday

weekend but for most of us day one of three has been dry. We are going

to see changes, the first of those changes spilling across Scotland and

Northern Ireland as outbreaks of rain drifting through the night.

Getting into parts of northern England as well. With the cloud and

rain it will not be as cold as last night, temperatures staying in

double figures in many cities. In the south, clear skies once more.

Like last night, it is going to be cold. Parts of the countryside will

be down to zero, maybe -1, as we start Sunday. A chilly start.
