Thank you. With are back | :00:00. | :00:11.
Good evening. It's been months in the planning and the | :00:12. | :00:14.
Tour de France didn't disappoint. At least a million | :00:15. | :00:17.
people lined the route as 188 elite cyclists swept | :00:18. | :00:19.
through North Yorkshire's towns and villages. They were | :00:20. | :00:21.
joined by the Duke and Duchdss of Cambridge and Prince | :00:22. | :00:24.
Harry. Well, Phil Connell's live in Harrogate tonight | :00:25. | :00:26.
This was the dramatic moment when the dream finish for | :00:27. | :01:01.
Mark Cavendish in front of Harrogate`based family ended | :01:02. | :01:03.
in disaster, happening just outside the locally iconic | :01:04. | :01:07.
Betty's Tea Rooms, it could not have been further from | :01:08. | :01:15.
the ending the crowds hoped for We just suddenly saw | :01:16. | :01:22.
two bikes go down. Then when I looked, I saw that it | :01:23. | :01:25.
was Cavendish that was down on the floor and looked to | :01:26. | :01:28.
be in a lot of pain. He was rolling around holding his | :01:29. | :01:31.
shoulder. He was in agony. The whole crowd was shocked. | :01:32. | :01:33.
The rest of it almost went by, because we saw that | :01:34. | :01:36.
Cavendish was down. The Yorkshire setback could not | :01:37. | :01:38.
spoil the mood of spectators who waited hours by the | :01:39. | :01:40.
finish line. It is just amazing The Tour de France | :01:41. | :01:43.
coming here is brilliant. Wd have been living in | :01:44. | :01:48.
England for a couple of years, it is great. I am from | :01:49. | :01:51.
Morocco but I am really exchted to watch the Tour de | :01:52. | :01:54.
France in England. It is am`zing. It is really | :01:55. | :02:03.
exciting, and the atmospherd is great. You know it is a | :02:04. | :02:05.
special event when someone postpones their wedding to | :02:06. | :02:07.
coincide with it. This couple from Egremont in Cumbria | :02:08. | :02:09.
did just that. We had always said we would love to go | :02:10. | :02:12.
and see the Tour de France `nd when we heard it was | :02:13. | :02:15.
coming here, the minute the dates and the location were | :02:16. | :02:17.
announced, we had our accomlodation booked. That was a | :02:18. | :02:20.
huge moment for cycling fans and today has been a | :02:21. | :02:22.
series of huge and unpreceddnted moments for Yorkshire. | :02:23. | :02:52.
Well, as I mentioned, the Tour was given royal approval, with the Duke | :02:53. | :02:55.
and Duchess of Cambridge johning Prince Harry on the route. | :02:56. | :02:58.
The Duchess presented the ydllow jersey at the finishing lind. | :02:59. | :03:00.
Earlier, the royal party were in West | :03:01. | :03:02.
Tanfield, near Ripon, from where Olivia Richwald sent this rdport. | :03:03. | :03:04.
The church bells rang this lorning in West Tanfield to welcome | :03:05. | :03:08.
a day like no other in the history of this vill`ge. | :03:09. | :03:11.
Normally 500 people live here, today, 12,000 descended | :03:12. | :03:13.
What they did not know was that they were also going to get | :03:14. | :03:22.
Princes William, Harry and Kate arrived by helicopter. | :03:23. | :03:26.
They got out there and spent an hour walking around meeting people. | :03:27. | :03:31.
They tried the locally brewdd Tour ale. | :03:32. | :03:33.
They were given dozens of these little loom bands and a special | :03:34. | :03:36.
It has taken an entire year to plan West Tanfield's Tour de France | :03:37. | :03:40.
celebrations but the memories gathered hdre today | :03:41. | :03:42.
Ambulance workers in North Xorkshire were on strike | :03:43. | :04:00.
today. Yorkshire Ambulance Service says it "managed | :04:01. | :04:02.
well" despite the walkout, coinciding with the Tour de | :04:03. | :04:04.
France. The strike by members of the Unite union is | :04:05. | :04:06.
over breaks and working conditions. Further action is | :04:07. | :04:08.
Well, the Tour de France sets off from York tomorrow | :04:09. | :04:13.
morning, so will the sun shhne on the riders? Kay | :04:14. | :04:16.
through the rest of the evening, plenty of sunshine out and | :04:17. | :04:22.
about. Any showers across Northumberland will fizzle | :04:23. | :04:24.
out. It will be clear for many of us, at least in the east | :04:25. | :04:27.
overnight tonight. We start to get more in the way of | :04:28. | :04:30.
cloud across Cumbria, the odd isolated shower | :04:31. | :04:32.
over the hills. Lows overnight in clear skies down to | :04:33. | :04:34.
around 10 degrees. 15 Fahrenheit. The breeze, gentle from | :04:35. | :04:36.
the west. Tomorrow, a fine start to the day, drx and | :04:37. | :04:40.
bright, but we will see cloud bubbling up. The risk of | :04:41. | :04:44.
some showers that are likely to be heavy. Highs of 18 | :04:45. | :04:46.
And that's all from us. We're back at 6 o'clock | :04:47. | :04:54.
tomorrow evening. There's all the region's political | :04:55. | :04:55.
news on Sunday Politics tomorrow morning at 11, here on | :04:56. | :04:58.
BBC One. But from me, whatever you're doing, have a | :04:59. | :05:00.
Good evening. It looks like for most of us the weather will be fairly | :05:01. | :05:19.
similar to what we saw today. The broad themes throughout this | :05:20. | :05:23.
weekend, sunny spells and scattering of showers, but not much evening | :05:24. | :05:27.
sunshine round, I have to say s across south-east England, and the | :05:28. | :05:30.
cloud here thick enough to | :05:31. | :05:31. |
