That's all the sport for now. Back to you.

:00:00.3:59:59

Good evening. That's

:00:00.:00:10.

An investigation is underwax after a man fell to his death

:00:11.:00:14.

It's understood he was trying to escape from the police.

:00:15.:00:18.

Karl David Carson, who was 26 and from Boldon Colliery,

:00:19.:00:21.

was under arrest when he fldd from a police car.

:00:22.:00:24.

A beauty spot but only earlx hours of this morning a scene of tragedy.

:00:25.:00:35.

this morning when the policd were called to a fight here in the car

:00:36.:00:39.

They arrested one man and left him in the police vehicle

:00:40.:00:45.

before going back to sort ott the rest the disturbance.

:00:46.:00:50.

Karl Carson had escaped from the car.

:00:51.:00:53.

As soon as they were able to do so the officers made a search of

:00:54.:00:57.

the area to try to locate the man and very tragically, that is when

:00:58.:01:00.

they found out that he was `t the bottom of the cliffs, on thd beach.

:01:01.:01:04.

The officer immediately attdnded and tried to give first aid

:01:05.:01:06.

and continued doing so until paramedics arrived.

:01:07.:01:08.

We had an engagement party and there was a fight

:01:09.:01:12.

in the car park afterwards when everybody was leaving.

:01:13.:01:14.

Between friends as far as I knew because everybody knew each other.

:01:15.:01:18.

And then the next thing that I know was that

:01:19.:01:21.

the police helicopter was overhead shining its light on the be`ch.

:01:22.:01:23.

It is a tragedy what has happened.

:01:24.:01:25.

I cannot believe it has happened to be honest.

:01:26.:01:27.

I heard nothing and I just live over the back.

:01:28.:01:29.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating

:01:30.:01:31.

And Northumbria Police say they are supporting Mr Carson's family.

:01:32.:01:43.

It's been an extraordinary weekend in North Yorkshire as the start

:01:44.:01:46.

Two and half million people lined the streets ` to wave on

:01:47.:01:54.

the world's best cyclists ` though disappointment that local hdro,

:01:55.:01:56.

Mark Cavendish, had to pull out after yesterday's shoulder hnjury.

:01:57.:02:02.

So, Stage 2 started in York this morning, passing

:02:03.:02:05.

through Knaresborough, from where Phil Chapman sent this report,

:02:06.:02:08.

The Tour de France continues to spread joy throughout Yorskhire

:02:09.:02:16.

again today as stage two kicked off in York

:02:17.:02:20.

and sped through Harrowgate and Knaresbrough, minus the loc`l area's

:02:21.:02:22.

It is not possible to start from a medical point of view.

:02:23.:02:28.

The Tour de France is here hn the UK for another two days.

:02:29.:02:35.

The race goes on and Knaresbrough spectators

:02:36.:02:42.

Never been done before and never be done again.

:02:43.:02:50.

I think it is absolutely marvellous because it is my hometown

:02:51.:02:52.

It is very nice to watch and I like it.

:02:53.:02:59.

Anything that brings people together is really good.

:03:00.:03:07.

This is way bigger than what I thought it would be.

:03:08.:03:09.

And after the incredible success of this Yorkshire Grand Dep`rt

:03:10.:03:15.

there are plans for an annu`l tour of Yorkshire which would sde some

:03:16.:03:23.

of the world's top cyclists return to the county as early as ndxt May.

:03:24.:03:26.

As the tour makes its way ott of our region after a remarkable wdekend,

:03:27.:03:29.

you just might see scenes lhke this again in the not too distant future.

:03:30.:03:43.

Overnight tonight, many of us will become dry.

:03:44.:03:47.

Over Northumberland, some showers will continue.

:03:48.:03:51.

We will start to get cloud building in as we head towards dawn.

:03:52.:03:54.

Underneath the cloud temper`tures will be in double figures, `round 10

:03:55.:03:57.

Celsius but there will be some clear skies so in rural spots it will be

:03:58.:04:05.

Tomorrow morning, variable hf not large amounts of clouds but it will

:04:06.:04:09.

There will be showers as we go into the afternoon.

:04:10.:04:13.

Central and northern spots, some of those could be heavx.

:04:14.:04:15.

Perhaps a little bit thundery in nature.

:04:16.:04:17.

Across the board tomorrow, top temperatures about 18 Cdlsius.

:04:18.:04:20.

Where you get the sunshine it will feel w`rm

:04:21.:04:24.

For the next couple of days, Tuesday into Wednesday, we will see a

:04:25.:04:31.

Still the risk of some showdrs with top temperatures around 18 Celsius

:04:32.:04:35.

with the fate of some heavy rain on Thursday.

:04:36.:04:43.

Hello. We are going to carry the weekend weather into the first part

:04:44.:05:15.

of the working week. A mix of sunny spells and showers, essentially

:05:16.:05:20.

Overnight, a mix of clear spells and showers. Not that many showers

:05:21.:05:24.

around, but when they turn up they could be on the heavy side. The

:05:25.:05:28.

Bristol Channel, perhaps across western Scotland. Temperatures in

:05:29.:05:32.

most towns and cities no lower than 11 or 12 degrees. In Easton parted

:05:33.:05:34.

could

:05:35.:05:36.
