A man has died after jumping into the sea in North Tyneshde. It

happened on the beach by North Shields Fish Quay early yesterday

evening. He's the third man to have drowned in the region's rivers and

into difficulty a short timd after going into the sea around 5:30pm

Members of the public went in to try to help the man and dragged him

out and he was taken to hospital but he died a short time later.

In the same week the RNLI l`unched its Respect The Water campaign,

three men in the north`east have drowned in the last seven days.

We have been the busiest we've been these last six months,

with more call`outs so far this year than in the whole of 2013.
