spells and it will get warmer - sunny spells. A story with a happy | :00:00. | :00:00.
ending. It's the controversial realhty TV | :00:00. | :00:12.
show featuring the lives We reported earlier this wedk | :00:13. | :01:10.
on how the filming of Channdl Four's new series of Benefits Stredt had | :01:11. | :01:14.
begun in Stockton. But now one MP's called | :01:15. | :01:16.
for it to be scrapped. And he's writing to every rdsident | :01:17. | :01:19.
warning they will be exploited Today the names of some | :01:20. | :01:21.
of those appearing Meanwhile, people living | :01:22. | :01:25.
on a nearby street told Look North Yet also on Benefits Street | :01:26. | :01:30.
today was the town's MP. It will be a tremendous intrusion | :01:31. | :01:57.
into private life and peopld will suffer as a result of taking part. I | :01:58. | :02:04.
do not know why they need to be filming you but you think they are | :02:05. | :02:08.
exploiting the residence. It is legitimate for them to make the | :02:09. | :02:11.
programmes they choose to m`ke it the residents agree but the majority | :02:12. | :02:14.
do not with this programme being made. I have spoken to several of | :02:15. | :02:19.
them and they are opposed and I think they should listen to the | :02:20. | :02:22.
majority instead of dealing with a few people that wants to make the | :02:23. | :02:26.
programme and people that do not even live in the street. It seems | :02:27. | :02:27.
nonsense. These were the scenes here | :02:28. | :02:30.
on Tuesday, but The crews are working. Some people | :02:31. | :02:43.
are willing to take part in the series. This is somebody th`t the | :02:44. | :02:48.
papers are calling Orange Dot. When you read the article, she does not | :02:49. | :02:51.
actually live in this street. She lives in the next one. She hs dubbed | :02:52. | :02:57.
the permit and Gran and was lying low today. Our move was followed | :02:58. | :03:03.
again by the film crew. Originally it turned out the producers wanted | :03:04. | :03:09.
to base Benefits Street in nearby Dixon Street but the residents | :03:10. | :03:15.
refused. It is going to be good But they label you as scruffy and | :03:16. | :03:22.
scroungers. Half of the strdet are not even on benefits. They work and | :03:23. | :03:26.
they still want to film it here Channel four said the progr`mme will | :03:27. | :03:30.
highlight issues around povdrty Campaigners say good points like the | :03:31. | :03:32.
Riverside Festival will be overlooked. Look at what Stockton | :03:33. | :03:40.
does have. Do not presume the stereotypes of lots of people on | :03:41. | :03:44.
benefits. We know how difficult life is for many people at the moment. | :03:45. | :03:49.
But equally a lot of these people are doing their best for thdir | :03:50. | :03:53.
community. There seems little prospect Channel four will pull out. | :03:54. | :03:57.
Repair to hear a lot more about characters like Orange Dot. `` | :03:58. | :03:59.
prepare. Well Peter joins us live | :04:00. | :04:05.
from our BBC Tees news camera. Peter, realistically, | :04:06. | :04:08.
what are the chances I would have thought very lhttle, | :04:09. | :04:18.
unless the MP can persuade people to pull out. Some people do not want to | :04:19. | :04:22.
take part and it is difficult to get some people on camera. Some people | :04:23. | :04:25.
are happily cooperating with the film crew. We assumed that hncludes | :04:26. | :04:34.
Orange Dot, she is in the Stn newspaper today. Some peopld said | :04:35. | :04:38.
she would like to be in Big Brother on the back of her appearance on | :04:39. | :04:42.
Benefits Street. Channel fotr feel it is about highlighting issues | :04:43. | :04:45.
around poverty and welfare. We tried to speak to them today but they did | :04:46. | :04:49.
not want to be interviewed. They said they will get on with filming, | :04:50. | :04:51.
which will take around six lonths. Two of our police forces have been | :04:52. | :04:59.
criticised for leaving dozens of rapes and violent offencds out | :05:00. | :05:02.
of official crime figures. Inspectors say officers in Cleveland | :05:03. | :05:08.
and North Yorkshire wrongly decided that 189 offences wouldn't be | :05:09. | :05:10.
recorded as crimes. Those cases, including the rapes, | :05:11. | :05:12.
are now being looked at agahn. Earlier this month | :05:13. | :05:16.
Northumbria Police reviewed 11 rape Our Political Editor | :05:17. | :05:18.
Richard Moss is here. What did the inspectors find | :05:19. | :05:23.
in Cleveland and North Yorkshire? There was a similar scenario with | :05:24. | :05:37.
what Northumbria talked abott. It was originally classified as a no | :05:38. | :05:41.
crime. They were investigatdd but they decided there was enough doubt | :05:42. | :05:44.
as to whether a crime had t`ken place. No further action and not in | :05:45. | :05:50.
the official figures. In Cldveland and North Yorkshire, this is what | :05:51. | :05:55.
inspectors found, they investigated some of the no crimes, Clevdland | :05:56. | :06:00.
looked at 84. They found 38 should have been classified as criles, | :06:01. | :06:06.
including 12 rapes. In North Yorkshire, inspectors looked at 105 | :06:07. | :06:11.
places to tears as no crime. `` declared as no crime. 21 rapes were | :06:12. | :06:20.
not included. This is not good news after what is happening in | :06:21. | :06:24.
Rotherham. One charity workhng with the tins of sexual violence in | :06:25. | :06:27.
Teeside accepted that Cleveland does take these offences seriously. `` | :06:28. | :06:35.
victims. But they say that this is a hammer blow for victims when it is | :06:36. | :06:43.
not recorded. Absolutely terrible. We deal with it all the timd. People | :06:44. | :06:48.
come here and they are not believed. That is what prevents peopld from | :06:49. | :06:53.
coming forward very often. @nd in situations like this when they are | :06:54. | :06:56.
highlighted in the media, that comes to the four again. And more people | :06:57. | :07:05.
come forward. And they need support. What have the police forces said? | :07:06. | :07:09.
They have accepted that there are problems and they are implelenting | :07:10. | :07:12.
measures which have been recommended. Some people sahd that | :07:13. | :07:18.
it was not a systematic attdmpt to lower crime figures and it was a | :07:19. | :07:21.
mistake of classification. They will look at this again. The polhce are | :07:22. | :07:25.
reassuring the public that the teams will be treated properly. They are | :07:26. | :07:32.
looking at these with other forces to see if they agree with it. This | :07:33. | :07:38.
is an Assistant Chief Const`ble If I was reading that report, H would | :07:39. | :07:43.
have concerns. The first thhng is that we are protecting the | :07:44. | :07:46.
communities and the tins and they are at the heart of what we do. All | :07:47. | :07:49.
of these crimes are at enterprise and put on a system. `` and victims. | :07:50. | :07:57.
We have made a number of ch`nges to make sure we improve on what we are | :07:58. | :08:03.
doing. North Yorkshire police, this is an example of how they h`ve | :08:04. | :08:07.
reclassified crimes. They h`ve said a complaint of sexual assault where | :08:08. | :08:10.
alcohol was involved and thdy were not sure if it was consented or not, | :08:11. | :08:15.
they have classified that in the past as a non`crime but in future it | :08:16. | :08:20.
will be classified as a crile. Further reports Northumbria, Cumbria | :08:21. | :08:23.
and Durham will come in the autumn. Thank you. | :08:24. | :08:31.
It's one of the most beautiful routes in | :08:32. | :08:33.
the Lake District, winding hts way along the edge of Derwentwater and | :08:34. | :08:35.
But there's anger among manx who live and work along the road that | :08:36. | :08:40.
the speed limit on it could be raised from 40 to 60 miles `n hour. | :08:41. | :08:43.
They say fast moving vehiclds will threaten walkers and cyclists. | :08:44. | :08:46.
The county council says it's only a proposal | :08:47. | :08:48.
Most locals know it is a trhcky road needing careful handling and they | :08:49. | :09:03.
watch their speed. Any people worried about a speed twice many | :09:04. | :09:10.
people think sensible. It is covered in potholes. We have got a tourist | :09:11. | :09:14.
bus service with double`decker buses and they have hardly got sp`ce to | :09:15. | :09:19.
get past. Moving that up to 60 is telling people that they can go | :09:20. | :09:23.
faster and for people that know it that might not be a bad thing but | :09:24. | :09:26.
for visitors that do not it is a poor thing. Gary is not the only | :09:27. | :09:33.
one. I have not aware of anxbody in favour of it. It is a very narrow | :09:34. | :09:38.
road. It is very envy. It is used by walkers, cyclists and slowed tourist | :09:39. | :09:47.
traffic. `` it is very ending. `` it is very ending. We have got buses | :09:48. | :09:47.
going up and traffic. It is not safe to go | :09:48. | :09:58.
faster. It has been a bumper year for tourism, businesses havd said. | :09:59. | :10:02.
Many are drawn to Derwentwater and walkers have to use parts of this | :10:03. | :10:09.
road. `` Borrowdale Valley. Young people are coming here very fast. We | :10:10. | :10:14.
have two walk on here somewhere in places. We have too. I think it is | :10:15. | :10:19.
fast enough. Many people we have spoken to are in opposition to | :10:20. | :10:22.
raising the speed limit up to 6 mph. Some people think that a | :10:23. | :10:27.
common`sense solution could be found. | :10:28. | :12:04.
which has cooked up some of the best hospital dinners in the country | :12:05. | :12:11.
It is dinner time at Sunderland Royal Hospital. Four around 100 | :12:12. | :12:18.
patients. Three meals every day for the patients, breakfast lunch and | :12:19. | :12:22.
tea. About 3000 meals per d`y we are serving. The hospital was thrilled | :12:23. | :12:28.
to see its food come out among the best in the region because ht has | :12:29. | :12:32.
not always been. We have listened to what they have said over thd years | :12:33. | :12:37.
about what we have served. We have taken a system approach. We have | :12:38. | :12:41.
adopted a flexible system. So that what we have provided will suit the | :12:42. | :12:48.
requirements of the patient. For the elderly care ward, patients will | :12:49. | :12:52.
have a hot lunch as many of them do had home. The NHS published league | :12:53. | :12:57.
tables showing how hospitals have rated across the region for the | :12:58. | :13:01.
quality of food and choice. Many did well. Darlington Memorial and | :13:02. | :13:08.
Sunderland Royal scored 96% for the quality of hospital food. The | :13:09. | :13:14.
Freeman Hospital was in Newcastle scored 93%. Just over 80% for | :13:15. | :13:20.
choice. Some hospitals have performed less well. The Unhversity | :13:21. | :13:26.
Hospital of North Tees scordd.. And Cumberland infirmary is amongst the | :13:27. | :13:34.
worst, just 78% for its dinners It is certainly an impressive selection | :13:35. | :13:39.
of food. That is clear in this menu. It is restaurant standard. Why is | :13:40. | :13:44.
hospital food so important? The Royal College of nursing has said | :13:45. | :13:49.
that food is part of patient care. They said nutritious meals `re | :13:50. | :13:55.
fundamental to a patient recovery. Patients like Doreen. I can honestly | :13:56. | :14:02.
say that I enjoy the food hdre. Have you come here for many years? Have | :14:03. | :14:07.
you seen an improvement? Thd hospital said that they havd | :14:08. | :14:11.
improved? Yes, a lot. It is lovely. It is a beautiful menu. It hs worth | :14:12. | :14:20.
staying, isn't it? Yes! And you can find out how your hospital food is | :14:21. | :14:23.
rated on the NHS choices website. STUDIO: Let us know what yot think | :14:24. | :14:35.

One of the top gardening evdnts is getting to the core of a important | :15:10. | :15:12.
event. One of the country's top gardening | :15:13. | :15:17.
events is getting to the core of a Next month, the Harrogate Attumn | :15:18. | :15:20.
Flower Show is celebrating of the oldest surviving varheties of | :15:21. | :15:24.
eating apple, the Ribston Phppin, was raised over 300 years ago at | :15:25. | :15:28.
Ribston Hall near Knaresborough as I will need eight, with flotr, | :15:29. | :15:43.
cream, butter, sugar and a little bit of salt. And this is an apple | :15:44. | :15:48.
with a story. It is one of the oldest varieties of eating `pple and | :15:49. | :15:52.
it was grown right here in Yorkshire. And this tree is the | :15:53. | :16:01.
grandchild of the original. In 709, Sir Henry Goodrick grew the first of | :16:02. | :16:05.
this type of Apple. Richard Cox used these seeds for the famous Cox | :16:06. | :16:12.
Orange Pippin. This portrait shows the original tree. It was thought it | :16:13. | :16:18.
was damaged in a storm and ht sprouted on site. I think for | :16:19. | :16:24.
Yorkshire it is quite important So often people are increasingly aware | :16:25. | :16:27.
of where food and produce comes from. And to trace an apple through | :16:28. | :16:32.
this history back to 300 ye`rs ago I think is important. You get a taste | :16:33. | :16:36.
you do not get now and texttres you do not get now and that is part of | :16:37. | :16:39.
it, exploring that history `nd heritage. There are millions of | :16:40. | :16:45.
things you can do with applds but one recipe was extremely popular | :16:46. | :16:50.
with Georgians. Take it awax. Here we are in Yorkshire next to the | :16:51. | :16:58.
Pippin tree. And we are makhng. . We have pan`fried this in a pan with | :16:59. | :17:02.
some butter and we are going to pour some of it into the pan, thhs | :17:03. | :17:07.
matter, taking the apple and slicing it down and placing it on top into | :17:08. | :17:12.
the pan and we will lift thhs tiny pancake, flip it over... And away we | :17:13. | :17:19.
go. That is putting ready to eat. Try a bit. | :17:20. | :17:25.
What do you think? It is re`lly really good. Beautiful. It hs | :17:26. | :17:29.
amazing. Now, pay attention all | :17:30. | :17:35.
of you who like your action Because you're in | :17:36. | :17:44.
for a real treat this weekend when The Zapcats are turbo`chargdd little | :17:45. | :17:48.
power boats which skim across the water at lightning speed, wdaving | :17:49. | :17:53.
in and out of chicanes as they go. Over the weekend they will be racing | :17:54. | :17:56.
around a course in the River Tyne. Jim Knight at the quayside | :17:57. | :17:59.
for us now, getting As you can probably see behhnd me, | :18:00. | :18:10.
here are some Zapcats showing what they can do. They will prob`bly do a | :18:11. | :18:14.
doughnut at some stage. Thex are showing their capability. They can | :18:15. | :18:20.
travel up to 45 mph. This wdekend they will be whipping up and down | :18:21. | :18:25.
the Tyneside. It will be a fantastic scene for the many spectators | :18:26. | :18:29.
watching. I have joined by Stephen Patterson. You organise this every | :18:30. | :18:33.
year. What is the thrill of it, do you think? It is the third xear that | :18:34. | :18:39.
we have hosted this Grand Prix. I think this venue gives a fantastic | :18:40. | :18:45.
spectacle. You can get up close and personal and you can smell the boats | :18:46. | :18:49.
and hear them. And you get close to the races. The speed and | :18:50. | :18:55.
acceleration is fantastic. Ht is like Formula one on water. They are | :18:56. | :18:58.
built for speed, lightweight, powerful, manoeuvrable, and with | :18:59. | :19:04.
eight in a race you get a f`ntastic spectacle. These are picturds of | :19:05. | :19:10.
previous races. What is the skill of it for the pilots? The skilful the | :19:11. | :19:15.
pilots is the corners. We h`ve got a very technical race on flat water. | :19:16. | :19:20.
And also for the co`pilot. Ht is about balance and putting your | :19:21. | :19:24.
weight into the turning and getting the advantage when you come out onto | :19:25. | :19:29.
the flat. Last week you had 25, 00 people. Expecting the same `gain? We | :19:30. | :19:34.
have got a good weather fordcast this weekend. It is free to come | :19:35. | :19:39.
down and watch. I think it will be a fantastic weekend for the f`mily. | :19:40. | :19:43.
Thank you very much for joining us. Sounds like a real thrill coming up. | :19:44. | :19:48.
We will leave you with some shots of these amazing little wheelids. That | :19:49. | :19:53.
is the capability of these light manoeuvrable crafts. Thank xou, Jim. | :19:54. | :20:00.
If I am on a boat I like it to be flat. Simple as that. What have you | :20:01. | :20:05.
got wet and not a bit of footy`macro to start. Both of the top tdams | :20:06. | :20:11.
should have a decent start picking up a 3`point haul. Sunderland are at | :20:12. | :20:24.
Queens Park Rangers. One defeat one draw and a Capital one Cup defeat at | :20:25. | :20:28.
Gillingham. Not a flying st`rt this season but the boss is convhnced | :20:29. | :20:33.
things can only get better. If we win on Saturday it will be ` good | :20:34. | :20:37.
start and I will be very pldased. The Manchester City day would always | :20:38. | :20:42.
be defined to some degree whth how we cope in that first game with so | :20:43. | :20:46.
many new signings. I could not have been more pleased. Not the result | :20:47. | :20:51.
but the performance. We havd taken it on in the third game and now we | :20:52. | :20:56.
have got a bit more pressurd to win. That is something that the new | :20:57. | :21:01.
players will have to cope whth. He would like another new playdr by the | :21:02. | :21:05.
Monday deadline, preferably a striker but without that he is | :21:06. | :21:08.
confident and old striker c`n do the job. Papiss Cisse will be b`ck I | :21:09. | :21:13.
think for Southampton. He whll be training by then. He will bd a like | :21:14. | :21:18.
a new signing. He is still carrying... I think he's good enough | :21:19. | :21:24.
to score goals in this premhership. Like QPR and Burnley, Cryst`l Palace | :21:25. | :21:28.
are not picked up a point. Ht will be interesting to see how they react | :21:29. | :21:32.
to the return of Neil Warnock. If you saw this public challenge | :21:33. | :21:36.
earlier this week, this is how the Newcastle boss reacted to bding | :21:37. | :21:39.
nominated by the Sunderland owner for the ice bucket treatment. | :21:40. | :21:47.
Moments later it was new England midfielder Jack Colback's ttrn. | :21:48. | :21:50.
He's nominated Black Cats chief executive, Margaret Byrne. | :21:51. | :21:53.
The fallout from Colback's free transfer hasn't quite abated. | :21:54. | :21:56.
His old manager was genuinely pleased to hear about the England | :21:57. | :21:59.
call`up, but does he think ht was accelerated by the summer move | :22:00. | :22:02.
It is probably one of the fdw English play Newcastle. Thex cannot | :22:03. | :22:14.
beat the French so the Englhsh, I suppose. | :22:15. | :22:17.
After two league draws, Poyet takes his side to proloted QPR | :22:18. | :22:19.
tomorrow, the home team without a point or goal to their nale. | :22:20. | :22:22.
But the Uruguyan, who's tryhng to sign at least two more playdrs | :22:23. | :22:25.
before Monday's transfer de`dline is also hoping no big offers come | :22:26. | :22:28.
We are ready for any kind of approach. We would not like to sell | :22:29. | :22:39.
