Veterans of one of the North`East's most famous army regiments were out

in force in Durham today, to witness the dedication

The Durham Light Infantry's last action was in the Korean War,

and it was disbanded in 1968, but up until now there has been no

permanent memorial to the DLI in the city centre.

46 years after the DLI was disbanded,

The bronze statue of an infantryman in Korean`era

battledress cost ?75,000 and was paid for by donations.

What we are doing is putting us that you up to remember every single

person who served and every family in this county, because almost every

single family had lost a man who served in the regiment. This is a

tribute to everyone in County Durham.

The statue mirrors the one erected in the

National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire in 2012 `

felt there wasn't a fitting tribute to their existence.

Josef Craig has been inspirhng other young people with disabilithes

at a triathlon event in Newcastle. He was on hand to encourage children

with conditions ` including cerebral palsy and down's syndrome `

as they took part in swimming, The event in Gosforth was

a fundraiser to help the chhldren pay for extra therapies provided by

the local charity ` Heel and Toe. It's hoped

because when they are doing stuff that is as hard as swimming or

confidence that they have got into their normal lives
