Terry Simpson died more than 20 years ago after falling from

:00:10.:00:14.

But now his family have been told some of his organs were taken away

:00:15.:00:19.

It's emerged the Northumbria and Cleveland Police forces

:00:20.:00:24.

are visiting at least a dozen other families, to tell them they've

:00:25.:00:28.

found tissues belonging to their loved ones.

:00:29.:00:30.

Our correspondent Peter Harris reports.

:00:31.:00:35.

22 years after her dad's death, Sarah Simpson is facing up

:00:36.:00:39.

The police called to say body parts - she says including his brain -

:00:40.:00:45.

We knew the postmortem had been carried out,

:00:46.:00:53.

but we thought he would be fully intact once he was

:00:54.:00:56.

He used to always say, you do not know what parts

:00:57.:01:00.

And we thought we'd done the right thing at the hospital by saying

:01:01.:01:06.

Terry Simpson died here at Newcastle General Hospital in 1995.

:01:07.:01:13.

His organs have subsequently been found at South Tyneside Hospital.

:01:14.:01:18.

Northumbria Police say this is the result of an audit

:01:19.:01:23.

They also say that they are confident the risk of this happening

:01:24.:01:29.

again is low because the rules around which human tissues

:01:30.:01:32.

The police say before new rules came in, some forces kept human tissue

:01:33.:01:36.

They were taken to South Tyneside by a pathologist who covered

:01:37.:01:43.

the North East and kept for what the police now say

:01:44.:01:46.

In a statement, the Human Tissue Authority said...

:01:47.:02:12.

Relatives like Sarah Simpson say all of this has stoked the grief

:02:13.:02:15.

I am going to be putting a complaint into the police, the coroner.

:02:16.:02:22.

Yes, I will go for legal action if they don't get the right answers,

:02:23.:02:27.

or find out what happened. It's for peace of mind, really.

:02:28.:02:32.

Well, earlier I asked Peter how many other families might be in a similar

:02:33.:02:35.

We know Cleveland Police are in the process of contacting 13

:02:36.:02:40.

families on Teesside that were affected, but we don't know

:02:41.:02:44.

How often was this about the retention of whole body organs,

:02:45.:02:54.

and how often was this simply retention of sample tissues?

:02:55.:03:02.

The police would say it is normal to keep some samples

:03:03.:03:12.

This family we have been speaking to say, as far as they are aware,

:03:13.:03:16.

his death was not suspicious, the verdict was misadventure,

:03:17.:03:19.

as they can't understand why it was necessary

:03:20.:03:21.

A court's heard how a soldier accused of murdering his

:03:22.:03:24.

ex-girlfriend stalked her, before cutting her throat.

:03:25.:03:26.

The prosecution began its case against Lance

:03:27.:03:27.

Corporal Trimaan Dhillon - also known as Harry -

:03:28.:03:29.

The 24-year-old was found in a pool of blood in her bathroom

:03:30.:03:36.

The 26-year-old soldier denies the charge.

:03:37.:03:42.

Lance Corporal Dhillon as a controlling, obsessive

:03:43.:03:49.

and manipulative man who stalked Alice Ruggles in the lead up

:03:50.:03:51.

The court heard they met when he spotted her photo

:03:52.:03:56.

They started an online relationship whilst

:03:57.:03:59.

But when he returned, that relationship quickly soured.

:04:00.:04:08.

His jealous and controlling behaviour damaging

:04:09.:04:09.

The court was told his jealous behaviour was unfounded because it

:04:10.:04:16.

When Alice found out, she ended the relationship.

:04:17.:04:20.

The prosecution said this led to emotional blackmail.

:04:21.:04:24.

He also threatened to put intimate photos of her on the internet.

:04:25.:04:33.

He also hacked her phone and discovered that she was having

:04:34.:04:36.

Lance Corporal Dhillon is alleged to have turned up at her house

:04:37.:04:39.

in the early hours just weeks before her death.

:04:40.:04:42.

She complained again when he failed to stop communicating with her.

:04:43.:04:47.

But she said she did not want him arrested.

:04:48.:04:53.

On the 12th of October last year, it is alleged that the soldier

:04:54.:04:57.

When she arrived home, he broke into the flat

:04:58.:05:06.

Lance Corporal Dhillon denies murder, and the defence is expected

:05:07.:05:09.

to say that he was trying to protect Alice from harming herself.

:05:10.:05:12.

A paramedic called to the scene of a gas explosion in York has told

:05:13.:05:17.

an inquest he thought a plane had crashed there.

:05:18.:05:19.

Paul Willmott was killed in the explosion after a gas pipe

:05:20.:05:22.

The house that was demolished is in the process of being rebuilt.

:05:23.:05:27.

On the 19th of February last year, people living on Springwood,

:05:28.:05:30.

a quiet residential road in York, woke to a catastrophic scene.

:05:31.:05:33.

At around 7:30, number 20, a detached property,

:05:34.:05:37.

was destroyed in what was later confirmed to be a gas explosion.

:05:38.:05:41.

The owner of the house, 63-year-old Paul Wilmott was found

:05:42.:05:44.

Andrew Hewitson, an ambulance paramedic seen on the right,

:05:45.:05:49.

was one of the first emergency workers to arrive.

:05:50.:05:52.

Today, he described a scene of devastation.

:05:53.:05:56.

Mr Hewitson was asked by the coroner at what he saw when he arrived.

:05:57.:05:59.

He said it was evident that one house was completely missing.

:06:00.:06:02.

He says residents looked dazed and confused.

:06:03.:06:04.

He was then asked, what did you think had happened?

:06:05.:06:07.

To that, he replied, I thought a plane had crashed.

:06:08.:06:09.

Paul Wilmott's partner, Olivia Costello, told the jury

:06:10.:06:16.

there had been a strange smell in the house several weeks before.

:06:17.:06:20.

But an ants nest was discovered in the wall and that,

:06:21.:06:24.

they thought, was to blame rather than leaking gas.

:06:25.:06:26.

Drivers on the A1 in North Yorkshire face another six months of delays.

:06:27.:06:34.

The upgrade between Leeming and Barton began in March 2014

:06:35.:06:38.

and was due to be finished this June.

:06:39.:06:41.

But the contractors say significant archaeological finds have

:06:42.:06:44.

And delays have also been caused by power cables

:06:45.:06:49.

The Prince of Wales has been in Cumbria at the start

:06:50.:06:55.

Prince Charles attended engagements in Barrow,

:06:56.:06:58.

A regular visitor and firm supporter, he still

:06:59.:07:06.

Everyone in the front row had a word with him, you know.

:07:07.:07:14.

It was good. I was quite impressed with him.

:07:15.:07:17.

Treated to a performance of a clog dance, a piece

:07:18.:07:19.

composed in Whitehaven, he is following the Queen Mother

:07:20.:07:22.

and Princess Margaret on the Rosehill royal guest list.

:07:23.:07:26.

He is search a friendly, warm personality.

:07:27.:07:28.

And he really seemed to enjoy the performance.

:07:29.:07:34.

The theatre has been closed since 2015 for extensive refurbishment.

:07:35.:07:39.

This is the first performance since that work has been completed.

:07:40.:07:43.

He was very impressed by the restoration.

:07:44.:07:45.

He said it was very good to see buildings like this

:07:46.:07:49.

He was also very impressed with the association with apprentices.

:07:50.:07:54.

Taking to the stage himself, the prince was presented

:07:55.:07:58.

with an award in recognition of his continued support

:07:59.:08:00.

In sunshine and in rain. LAUGHTER.

:08:01.:08:10.

As you know, will go on doing whatever I can to help.

:08:11.:08:14.

His Royal Highness hopes this visit highlights the importance

:08:15.:08:19.

There was praise for local businesses in Ennerdale, too.

:08:20.:08:21.

Where the Prince celebrated the success of the community hub.

:08:22.:08:24.

Amid the handshaking and plaque unveiling,

:08:25.:08:25.

it is hoped this Royal's love of Cumbria will encourage

:08:26.:08:27.

And Paul's here with the weather for the coming week.

:08:28.:08:34.

Some of us had a mini heat wave, didn't we?

:08:35.:08:36.

Has that all gone now? We saw 21 Celsius, but yes, it is

:08:37.:08:46.

Good evening. Let's cut to the chase the first big holiday weekend of the

:08:47.:11:16.

year is on the horizon and if you consider last weekend as a taster

:11:17.:11:20.

for the summer, this weekend is not looking too bad. It will be a bit

:11:21.:11:24.

cooler, temperatures this week and closer to where they should be at

:11:25.:11:27.

this time of the year thanks to the north-west breed and the reason for

:11:28.:11:32.

that, if we look at the jet stream, coming across the Atlantic pushing

:11:33.:11:36.

from north to south -- north-west breeze. It separates the high

:11:37.:11:42.

pressure and low price and it allows the northerly airflow to develop. It

:11:43.:11:45.

means there will be some showers going into Easter weekend but they

:11:46.:11:51.

will only be a small portion of the weekend wherever you are and there

:11:52.:11:53.

will be some dry weather and when the sun is out, it is getting

:11:54.:11:59.

stronger so it will negate some of the chill. Without

:12:00.:12:00.
