Northumbria Police have named a man who was killed in an accident

He was Lewis Knapp, who was 20 and lived in Boldon Colliery.

He died after being struck by a car as he crossed Anderson Street

in South Shields in the early hours of Saturday.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death

by dangerous driving, released on bail.

And Cumbria Police have named a teenager who died

He was Jordan McClure who died at the scene of the single car

Police are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.

Police began a week-long speed campaign today,

saying drivers are at greater risk of accidents at this time of year.

High-profile speed checks will be carried out

across the Cleveland and Durham forces.

Officers say in the five years between 2012 and 2016

there were over 900 collisions involving excessive speed.

Half were in daylight and fine weather.

A ?3,000 reward's being offered in North Yorkshire

following the deaths of rare Red Kites.

According to the RSPB, 24 birds of prey have been killed

or injured in the last ten years in the county.

Local businessmen have joined together to part fund a reward

for information leading to those responsible.
