Homes have been evacuated, roads closed and rail services

suspended after a major fire at an industrial estate

Emergency services were called to the Glasson Industrial Estate

in Maryport after the fire started at a business which manufactures

Around 40 homes nearby are likely to be without power until tomorrow.

A funnel of thick, black smoke visible for more than 30 miles

No one was injured but very quickly buildings and homes

I came out, had a look and seen it was in next-door's yard.

But to be honest, there was two fire engines already there,

but it did look as though it could have been under control.

That spread of smoke closed a section of A596 between Flimby

and Maryport and trains running on the nearby coastal line

12 fire crews and support from nearby Sellafield were called

in to try and control the smoke and flames.

This is a significant incident and as you can see behind me,

we are still working hard to bring the fire under control.

following an announcement that part of its production might

Nearly 300 jobs in total could be lost if this proposal goes ahead.

It would see Nestle move production of one of its products,

The plans have been criticised by trade unions, Unite and the GMB

have come out and said they really don't approve of this proposal.

The GMB says Nestle should be exporting chocolate, not jobs,

and its representative in York says a lot of members now are feeling

but the family living there claim it's more and more

A stately pile that most of us could only ever dream of owning.

Richard Compton inherited Newby Hall 18 years ago and while his ancestors

I think most of us thought we had seen the back of winter. It is

slowly going to warm up over the next few days. After the wintry

showers, some showers around in the east overnight, elsewhere it is dry,

clear and cold. Temperatures will drop to zero in a few outlying areas

it will be colder still. Temperatures in the east, a couple

of degrees above freezing, but still feeling cold in the wind. Tamara,

still a few sleet and showers around. Cumbria should be dry and

largely sunny through much of the day, but it will still feel cold.

Sunny spells and east between those showers, but temperatures, like

today, will range from seven Celsius in the east, to about ten in the

West with a bit more shelter. The wind is the coming from the north

but a bit lighter than they were today so it might not feel quite so

cold. High-pressure out to the west and this weather system coming down

from the north on Thursday and that will bring more cloud and rain.

Backley is through to leave Friday and Saturday largely dry with

temperatures beginning to recover as we had to the weekend. On Wednesday

and Thursday, showers in the East tomorrow, mostly dry and bright in

the West. Much cloudy day but temperatures will edge up by
