Health services - GPs and hospitals - | :00:14. | :00:17.
across our region, have been hit by a cyber attack affecting the NHS. | :00:18. | :00:22.
They include the York Hospitals Trust. | :00:23. | :00:24.
North Cumbria which runs the hospitals in Carlisle | :00:25. | :00:27.
and Whitehaven and Northumbria which runs services including | :00:28. | :00:29.
Northumbria's Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. | :00:30. | :00:34.
NHS England has declared a major incident but says at this stage | :00:35. | :00:39.
there's no evidence patient data has been accessed. | :00:40. | :00:45.
We also understand NHS staff at GPs and Hospitals | :00:46. | :00:50.
across the region have been told to shut down their computer systems | :00:51. | :00:53.
completely, and they may be out of action throughout the weekend. | :00:54. | :00:55.
A former Cumbrian Scout leader Norman Thompson from Wigton, | :00:56. | :00:57.
was sentenced to 16 years in prison today after admitting abusing seven | :00:58. | :01:00.
The youngest was just nine years old. | :01:01. | :01:06.
Norman Thompson's victims saw him at first as a | :01:07. | :01:27.
He gained their trust and that of their parents, | :01:28. | :01:28.
and then he abused it, with horrific consequences. | :01:29. | :01:29.
Norman Thompson's, for want of a better word, | :01:30. | :01:29.
He's ingratiated himself into the community. | :01:30. | :01:30.
He's ingratiated himself into the Scout movement. | :01:31. | :01:34.
And he's used his position there to sexually abuse young boys. | :01:35. | :01:39.
The court heard that Norman Thompson picked favourites | :01:40. | :01:42.
Referred to as Norman's Boys, he'd take them on trips | :01:43. | :01:46.
He'd ply them with alcohol, and it was often on those trips | :01:47. | :01:49.
He took photographs of them, he showed them child pornography. | :01:50. | :01:53.
We heard today that one boy was so distressed by Thompson's | :01:54. | :01:57.
behaviour that he sewed up his sleeping bag to try | :01:58. | :02:00.
Thompson was eventually suspended from the Scouts group, | :02:01. | :02:05.
The testimony of his victims, the reason he's in prison. | :02:06. | :02:11.
I've got nothing but the utmost admiration | :02:12. | :02:13.
Norman Thompson is spending 16 years behind bars as a direct result | :02:14. | :02:18.
The court heard how the victims' lives have been scarred | :02:19. | :02:23.
In sentencing him, the judge said, | :02:24. | :02:27.
"You are disturbing and manipulative. | :02:28. | :02:28.
"People like you terrify and undermine families | :02:29. | :02:34.
Megan Paterson, BBC Look North, Carlisle Crown Court. | :02:35. | :02:39.
The Prime Minister Theresa May was in the region today and claimed | :02:40. | :02:42.
traditional North East Labour voters feel abandoned and are ready | :02:43. | :02:45.
But her rivals insist she's no friend of the region. | :02:46. | :02:50.
Here's our Political Editor Richard Moss. | :02:51. | :02:56.
She arrived by car to stand in front of a bus in | :02:57. | :02:59.
Advanced publicity suggested this visit was aimed at wooing | :03:00. | :03:05.
working-class voters who backed Labour in the past. | :03:06. | :03:09.
She is supposedly trying to appeal to working-class voters | :03:10. | :03:16.
A lot of Conservative activists here. | :03:17. | :03:18.
Not much sign of the voters on this leg of the visit. | :03:19. | :03:26.
So I asked her, would be taking time to meet some? | :03:27. | :03:28.
I will be taking the time to meet many people. | :03:29. | :03:31.
I am going out and about in various parts of the North East today, | :03:32. | :03:34.
and I will be doing so again in the future. | :03:35. | :03:37.
There are 27 days to go in this election campaign. | :03:38. | :03:39.
I'm going to be out in every community, meeting people | :03:40. | :03:41.
in all sirts of circumstances in every part of | :03:42. | :03:44.
The message I give is the same, it is about how crucial | :03:45. | :03:59.
this election is, who do people want to see as Prime Minister | :04:00. | :04:02.
Back on the bus, but even a PM with a big poll lead can't | :04:03. | :04:06.
Will her next stop bring her face-to-face with those | :04:07. | :04:09.
The location was promising, this centre in North Shields | :04:10. | :04:13.
After avoiding protesters at one door, she arrived to another | :04:14. | :04:21.
to an audience with more Conservative activists. | :04:22. | :04:26.
But she did recall to talking to Labour voters in her first election. | :04:27. | :04:35.
There were quite a few Labour voters in that constituency. | :04:36. | :04:39.
But what I found when I talked to those Labour voters were people | :04:40. | :04:42.
who were really patriotical, they loved their country. | :04:43. | :04:45.
They took great pride in their region. | :04:46. | :04:48.
They wanted to see a better future for themselves and their children. | :04:49. | :04:52.
Now, if you look at those issues, it's not the Labour Party | :04:53. | :04:55.
offering that to people, it's the Conservative Party, | :04:56. | :04:57.
it's me and my team today, offering people that brighter future. | :04:58. | :05:02.
So are 2017's voters in North Shields ready to shift? | :05:03. | :05:18.
I don't like either at the minutes, to be honest. | :05:19. | :05:21.
Tourism after the working-class, they never will. | :05:22. | :05:23.
It is still time for the Prime Minister to meet | :05:24. | :05:27.
Well, Theresa May's visit to the North East brought | :05:28. | :05:33.
criticism from Labour, which said local voters would not be | :05:34. | :05:35.
fooled by the Prime Minister's message. | :05:36. | :05:36.
The Liberal Democrats and Ukip have also been giving their view. | :05:37. | :05:44.
The people of this region are not full. They understand quite clearly | :05:45. | :05:50.
what the Tory government has done in this region. They ripped the heart | :05:51. | :05:55.
and souls out of hundreds of communities. In this region we have | :05:56. | :05:59.
unemployment levels nearly double that of the average. We have under | :06:00. | :06:05.
employment. What do you say to the claim that Labour has taken the | :06:06. | :06:10.
north-east for granted? I do not accept that. People are very | :06:11. | :06:13.
disappointed with the Labour Party that has let them down over the last | :06:14. | :06:19.
parliament. Very weak leadership from the Labour Party. From the | :06:20. | :06:23.
Conservative Party we have a lot of rhetoric. They need to see through | :06:24. | :06:27.
the Conservatives and understand that conservatives have form. They | :06:28. | :06:31.
are not going to deliver on their promises and they will not deliver | :06:32. | :06:33.
Brexit. That's all from us | :06:34. | :06:37.
have a great weekend - here's Jen to tell us | :06:38. | :06:39.
about the weather. Tomorrow morning, it | :06:40. | :06:41.
will be a mild start. Generally it is a cloudy | :06:42. | :06:51.
start to the morning. We will see spells of | :06:52. | :06:55.
sunshine breaking through. Tomorrow, top temperature | :06:56. | :07:09.
15, 16 degrees. There will be rain overnight | :07:10. | :07:10.
Saturday into Sunday which will clear away first | :07:11. | :07:13.
thing on Sunday morning. Sunday is looking | :07:14. | :07:14.
at today the weekend. Highs of 16, 17 Celsius | :07:15. | :07:16.
will feel pleasant. Into Monday, wet weather | :07:17. | :07:21.
in the forecast. With the National forecast, | :07:22. | :07:24.
here is Jay Wynne. A bit of a mixed bag earlier on | :07:25. | :07:42.
today, some of us were cloudy with rain. This is the view from one of | :07:43. | :07:48.
our weather watchers in Cornwall. But in the Highlands of Scotland, it | :07:49. | :07:51.
was completely different, find, sunny and warm. The satellite and | :07:52. | :07:57.
radar picture shows the variety of weather we have had. It brightened | :07:58. | :08:03.
up into the afternoon, early evening. The north-east of Scotland | :08:04. | :08:12.
and England have extensive low cloud, missed, fog. If you showers | :08:13. | :08:16.
getting into the south coast by the end of the night. It is not a cold | :08:17. | :08:22.
night. Into the morning, many Southern counties will do quite | :08:23. | :08:27.
well. There is the chance of a shower or two, most of them are gone | :08:28. | :08:33.
by 9am. A lot of dry weather. Variable cloud, some | :08:34. | :08:35. |
