A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Jodie Wilkinson,

who was stabbed in a Newcastle street on Monday.

David Waterson, who's 43 and from the city,

appeared before magistrates in Newcastle this morning.

David Waterson appeared for only a few minutes

in the courtroom behind me just before 10am today.

The 43-year-old was wearing a grey sweatshirt and grey jogging bottoms.

He spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

He was told he will appear before Newcastle Crown Court

In the courtroom this morning were members of Jodie

They were visibly upset during the brief hearing.

Jodie Wilkinson died after an attack on Monday afternoon

Eight other people who were arrested in connection with this murder

investigation have now been released on bail.

A 51-year-old priest in the Diocese of Leeds has been suspended

following his arrest by Durham Police over alleg`tions

He's not been named, but in a statement, church officials

said appropriate safeguarding arrangements are in place.
