An investigation is under way after a stunt pilot from West Yorkshire | :00:12. | :00:17.
dies when his plane crashes in Switzerland. We have dramatic | :00:17. | :00:21.
footage of a previous crash involving the same pilot. | :00:21. | :00:25.

A brand new book comes out on Ernie Wise, we chat to the writer and his | :00:40. | :00:45.
widow. A number of heavy showers around | :00:45. | :00:55.

An investigation is under way into the cost of a plane crash involving | :01:05. | :01:12.
a 29 year-old pilot from. His plane came down in Switzerland. He had | :01:12. | :01:17.
appeared on helicopter he was after the plane he was flying then | :01:17. | :01:27.
:01:27. | :01:29. | ||
crashed into the River Derwent. Sipan Osman filming himself over | :01:30. | :01:37.
the Yorkshire Dales. Although not an experienced pilot, Mr Osman had | :01:37. | :01:46.
got a reputation of an adventure. He was an also -- he was also a | :01:46. | :01:56.
keen acrobatics. He was well known to instructors here. They were | :01:56. | :02:01.
killed on Friday morning after their plane crashed shortly after | :02:01. | :02:07.
leaving Columbia in Switzerland. It is understood the Leeds University | :02:07. | :02:15.
student made the same journey a month ago. This vintage taken by a | :02:15. | :02:19.
friend and posted on the Internet shows Mr Osman performing aerial | :02:19. | :02:27.
stunts. The 29 year-old recently appeared on the BBC's Helicopter | :02:27. | :02:31.
Heroes after he escaped serious injuries when his plane crashed | :02:31. | :02:37.
into a rubber. We had engine failure. I tried to start the | :02:37. | :02:47.
:02:47. | :02:48. | ||
engine. I switched everything off. An investigation into Friday's | :02:48. | :02:58.
:02:58. | :03:00. | ||
accident is under way. A mother has taken the unusual step | :03:00. | :03:05.
of taking her four children out-of- school over fears they are being | :03:05. | :03:09.
bullied. Stacey Winfindale says her eldest son has been targeted again | :03:09. | :03:15.
after he was awarded compensation for an earlier assault. His brother | :03:15. | :03:20.
and sisters are now being abused. Stacey is teaching them at home and | :03:20. | :03:24.
says they will not go back to warm until they are safe. The schools | :03:24. | :03:33.
involved deny there is a problem. It might appear an extreme case of | :03:33. | :03:39.
home schooling. Stacey Winfindale feels she has no alternative. She | :03:39. | :03:49.
:03:49. | :03:52. | ||
has taken her children out of school. The kids are going to | :03:52. | :03:57.
school and they're so downhearted because they do not want -- know | :03:57. | :04:07.
:04:07. | :04:08. | ||
what to expect when they get there. My son's first incident was 12 | :04:08. | :04:15.
months ago. He was injured when he was attacked by another pupil. The | :04:15. | :04:20.
family say the abuse has continued and now and done a daughter is | :04:20. | :04:29.
being at it abuse. I have been shouted at. This is | :04:29. | :04:34.
where the children went to school. It is also or where he was | :04:34. | :04:38.
assaulted last year. The academy has said they have clear policies | :04:39. | :04:42.
in place to deal with these instances and they have been in | :04:42. | :04:50.
regular contact with his family. They say there has been two | :04:50. | :05:00.
:05:00. | :05:02. | ||
allegations. The other two children have been taken out of the Junior | :05:02. | :05:08.
and infants school. We're trying to get a five-year-old through the | :05:08. | :05:16.
school gates into school and we are met with verbal abuse. Rotherham | :05:16. | :05:20.
council say they have not received an official complaint about those | :05:20. | :05:24.
allegations. Stacey says the situation needs to change and she | :05:24. | :05:31.
will continue to teach the children from home until it does. | :05:31. | :05:41.
:05:41. | :05:41. | ||
We're joined by a representative of a teachers' union. You have not | :05:41. | :05:47.
been directly involved but you are involved in similar cases. There | :05:47. | :05:54.
must be absolute rules laid down for a these cases? That is right. | :05:54. | :06:04.
:06:04. | :06:08. | ||
All schools are obliged to have an anti-bullying policy. All teachers | :06:08. | :06:12.
in school take any allegations of bullying seriously and will | :06:12. | :06:20.
investigate it. Any allegation has to be investigated for the evidence | :06:20. | :06:30.
behind it. Of those allegations turn out to be founded, is it usual | :06:30. | :06:40.
:06:40. | :06:40. | ||
for people to go back to the school? It is important to identify | :06:40. | :06:46.
the precise circumstances around the individual case. The priority | :06:46. | :06:52.
would be to protect the victim of bullying but also to identify the | :06:52. | :07:02.
:07:02. | :07:04. | ||
Boulez and correct the behaviour. That would be monitored carefully. | :07:04. | :07:12.
It is tough for a patient -- parent whether to report it? It seems that | :07:12. | :07:17.
bullying can get worse after a report. Any secondary believing | :07:17. | :07:22.
needs to be subject to investigation as well and if it | :07:22. | :07:29.
involves the wider community, the police must be engaged. It is | :07:29. | :07:33.
difficult for a parent to make a complaint but important that they | :07:33. | :07:38.
do and that they nor the complaint will be followed up. You talk about | :07:38. | :07:43.
secondary bullying. Another secondary bullying is that this | :07:43. | :07:49.
parent feels her younger children are also at risk. Should there be | :07:50. | :07:54.
communication between senior and junior schools? That is tricky | :07:55. | :08:00.
because whilst the evidence is there after-school, the transparent | :08:00. | :08:06.
data is very sensitive. If it was clear that there was systematic | :08:07. | :08:14.
bullying, it would be appropriate to contact the school and make sure | :08:14. | :08:18.
the individual was not being bullied as a result of a previous | :08:18. | :08:25.
case. I repeat, everything needs to be evidence based. If the school | :08:25. | :08:35.
:08:35. | :08:44. | ||
does not find evidence, there is little they can do at that stage. | :08:44. | :08:49.
Apart from talking to Ernie Wise's widow, we will have lots of other | :08:49. | :08:52.
things. The inspiration for the latest | :08:52. | :08:58.
exhibition at the Hepworth. The Yorkshire landscape takes centre | :08:58. | :09:08.
:09:08. | :09:09. | ||
stage. Police in Surrey have been given | :09:09. | :09:14.
another 36 hours to question a man suspected of murdering his partner | :09:14. | :09:19.
who is a policeman. Her body was found in woodland in West Sussex on | :09:19. | :09:29.
:09:29. | :09:31. | ||
Sunday. We're still waiting for a formal | :09:31. | :09:36.
identification but locally, the victim has been named as Heather | :09:36. | :09:42.
Cooper. Police were called to her home in search some woodlands | :09:42. | :09:47.
nearby and they found the body. A post-mortem was due this afternoon | :09:47. | :09:53.
but we have not had the results. The police say and 35-year-old man | :09:53. | :10:01.
is in custody. They have been given 36 hours to question him. That | :10:01. | :10:05.
investigation is still ongoing. What do we know all about this | :10:05. | :10:11.
woman? At we believe Heather Cooper was from Yorkshire and her parents | :10:11. | :10:21.
:10:21. | :10:26. | ||
live in your work. -- your work. We were told she had a baby just a few | :10:26. | :10:33.
months ago. Her friends were leaving flowers that the house. | :10:34. | :10:41.
Many were too upset to talk. Neighbours are all very shocked by | :10:42. | :10:51.
:10:52. | :10:56. | ||
what has happened. She seemed a nice lady. The police have been | :10:56. | :11:01.
given more time to question a man who is in custody. We are appealing | :11:01. | :11:10.
for more information. Yes. Forensic teams have been at the house today. | :11:10. | :11:18.
They are keen for anyone who lives locally if they saw a silver BMW | :11:18. | :11:27.
being moved between 11 and the morning and evening. They say that | :11:27. | :11:37.
could prove vital to this inquiry. A 15-year-old boy who was injured | :11:37. | :11:41.
and an attack in York last month has been discharged from hospital. | :11:41. | :11:46.
The 15-year-old was assaulted near the entrance to the racecourse. Two | :11:46. | :11:50.
teenagers are on bail in relation to the attack. Police want to hear | :11:50. | :11:56.
from anyone who saw what happened. Three young men wanted police | :11:56. | :11:59.
wanted to speak to about a barn fire in which a two-year-old girl | :11:59. | :12:04.
died have come for word. They were photographed near Hessle Farm near | :12:04. | :12:14.
:12:14. | :12:16. | ||
Wragby while the barn was burning. The Independent Police Complaints | :12:16. | :12:20.
Commission will look into port possible conduct after the collapse | :12:20. | :12:26.
of a murder trial. The case against six men was thrown out last year. | :12:26. | :12:31.
The judge criticised the police for not disclosing evidence. | :12:31. | :12:35.
A month-long exhibition celebrating Black History Month has opened in | :12:35. | :12:45.
:12:45. | :12:47. | ||
Sheffield. The event includes photos of Frank Bruno. Admission is | :12:47. | :12:53.
free. I want to inspire younger people to | :12:53. | :13:00.
break out of their situation. There are more opportunities now than | :13:00. | :13:10.
:13:10. | :13:21. | ||
there ever was. Or, Luc! It is not just us feeling the economic pinch. | :13:21. | :13:31.
:13:31. | :13:33. | ||
Some creatures need new homes after Artis pet sanctuary in Balby will | :13:34. | :13:38.
be forced to close at the end of the month because donations from | :13:38. | :13:41.
the public have dried up. It seems they are the latest | :13:41. | :13:48.
victims of the struggling economy. At the moment they live at Artis | :13:48. | :13:52.
pet sanctuary in Doncaster but the charity has run out of money. Now | :13:52. | :13:57.
around 60 animals still need new homes. But many of them are so | :13:57. | :14:02.
unusual that they are not wanted. Some of them have been here for a | :14:02. | :14:07.
long time because they get overlooked. They are bought as the | :14:07. | :14:11.
children's pets and a few months down the line they get fed up with | :14:11. | :14:18.
them and they end up back with the rescue places. These are children's | :14:18. | :14:22.
pets but unfortunately children are not the best ones to have pets, not | :14:22. | :14:30.
unless they have got the full backing of parents. Vicky will be | :14:30. | :14:33.
keeping some of the animals because she knows they will never find new | :14:33. | :14:39.
homes. Take this bird, for example. She has a damaged wing and cannot | :14:39. | :14:43.
fly. But that does not stop her trying. And then they are the | :14:43. | :14:47.
tortoises bought from sailors decades ago. Their owners are in | :14:47. | :14:51.
nursing homes so they will carry on living with Vicky even when the | :14:51. | :14:55.
century closes. This charity relied on donations from visitors but now | :14:55. | :14:59.
it seems people in Doncaster would prefer to visit the Yorkshire | :14:59. | :15:05.
Wildlife Park. Who wants to see a little guinea-pig when they can go | :15:05. | :15:08.
and see a great big liar? That had a knock-on effect as well but also | :15:08. | :15:13.
I think people just do not have the money. These animals have gone into | :15:13. | :15:18.
school classes and even been used on TV shows that all that has come | :15:18. | :15:22.
to an end. With so few visitors, the sanctuary has no choice but to | :15:22. | :15:30.
close by the end of the month. When we ran the story at lunch time, | :15:30. | :15:37.
a lot of people phoned to offer help. | :15:37. | :15:40.
Were their offers to help hissing cockroaches? | :15:40. | :15:45.
No, but I think we have an offer on the tortoise is. If you want to | :15:45. | :15:50.
contact the Artis pet sanctuary, please give them a ring. If you can | :15:50. | :16:00.
:16:00. | :16:00. | ||
re-home any of the animals. Before 7pm. We will be talking to | :16:00. | :16:08.
Ernie Wise's widow, Doreen, as this book hits the shelves. We will look | :16:08. | :16:17.
back at the life of the comic genius from Leeds. | :16:17. | :16:21.
Before then, the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield is on its way to | :16:21. | :16:25.
setting a record for the number of visitors to a new gallery. They are | :16:25. | :16:30.
hoping its newest exhibition will attract even more. Three of the | :16:30. | :16:36.
galleries have been given over to a brand new young artist, a painter, | :16:36. | :16:40.
asked to visit two well-known Yorkshire site, Ilkley Moor and | :16:40. | :16:43.
Brimham Rocks. And to make some paintings there. The results are | :16:43. | :16:53.
:16:53. | :16:56. | ||
striking. It is a landscape that has drawn | :16:56. | :17:00.
artists and visitors for centuries. Attracted by the atmosphere created | :17:00. | :17:04.
by Brimham Rocks. They form natural sculptures in a spectacular setting. | :17:04. | :17:09.
No wonder they have inspired so many artists in the past. Clare | :17:09. | :17:14.
Woods is the latest. She has taken around 500 photographs that she has | :17:14. | :17:18.
made into a collage. That is then the basis for some spectacular | :17:18. | :17:23.
paintings. There is a definite anxiety. I have been here a few | :17:23. | :17:27.
times on my own very early in the morning and it is not a relaxing | :17:27. | :17:32.
place. It is not about, look at this beautiful view. It is all | :17:32. | :17:36.
about the history and the folklore and the stories that are embedded | :17:36. | :17:45.
in it, and that is why I first came here. And here is what she came up | :17:45. | :17:50.
with. Glass and enamel paint on aluminium panels on a huge scale. | :17:50. | :17:57.
This work is ten metres long. I like about these paintings is | :17:57. | :18:03.
that close up they are incredibly sumptuous and incredibly vivid, and | :18:03. | :18:06.
very abstract whereas if you step away from them, there is a moment | :18:07. | :18:11.
when suddenly, there it is. A landscape appears. And having just | :18:11. | :18:14.
come from Brimham Rocks, I completely recognise them. There | :18:14. | :18:20.
they are. I think there is really something extremely a motive in | :18:20. | :18:24.
these paintings. People enjoy it seemed something on a very large, | :18:24. | :18:28.
ambitious scale. They are sumptuous to look at but psychologically they | :18:28. | :18:32.
are fascinating, too. It is almost part of a love poem to the | :18:32. | :18:35.
landscape but also with a sense of grind of trepidation and fear in | :18:35. | :18:41.
them, too, and that is what makes the word -- work so intriguing. | :18:41. | :18:46.
This painting was inspired by one of the rocks. Others are still in | :18:46. | :18:50.
the prices of being hunk, no easy task as six metres high. The | :18:50. | :18:55.
exhibition opens on Saturday and it is free, but be warned. It may make | :18:55. | :19:01.
you see Yorkshire in a whole new light. | :19:01. | :19:05.
Talking about the best of Yorkshire, this man was one half of one of the | :19:05. | :19:10.
most famous comedy double acts ever. He was the best. Ernie Wise from | :19:10. | :19:15.
Leeds was the all-round entertainer who became a household name, | :19:15. | :19:18.
alongside, of course, Eric Morecambe. Stars of stage and | :19:19. | :19:24.
screen queued up to be on their famous Christmas shows. Sadly, many | :19:24. | :19:27.
died in 1999 but his official biography has just been published. | :19:27. | :19:32.
-- sadly, Ernie Wise died in 1999. We will talk to his widow in a | :19:32. | :19:38.
moment. He was the entertainer with short, | :19:38. | :19:45.
fat, hairy legs, who brought sunshine into everyone's lives. He | :19:45. | :19:49.
went to thought Junior and Infant School in Leeds and lives -- lived | :19:49. | :19:54.
around the East Ardsley area. was admitted to the primary school | :19:54. | :20:00.
on 2nd July 1934. There is his father's then, and where he lived. | :20:00. | :20:03.
Ernie's father encouraged the young boy to take to the state and a | :20:03. | :20:08.
showbusiness career was born. He first met Eric Morecambe in 1940 | :20:08. | :20:11.
and after the war they became a double act. They were regulars on | :20:11. | :20:16.
the BBC and ITV and their Christmas shows are legendary. Good evening | :20:16. | :20:20.
and welcome to the show. But they also played the clubs, and there is | :20:20. | :20:23.
none bigger than the world famous Frontier Club in Batley. They | :20:23. | :20:30.
played here many times over the years. The stage now is as it was | :20:30. | :20:39.
then. Unfortunately, the last time they played here, Eric had his | :20:39. | :20:44.
first heart attack and was rushed to hospital. After Eric's death in | :20:44. | :20:51.
1984, Ernie began a solo career. He died in 1999. Last year his widow, | :20:51. | :20:54.
Doreen, unveiled a permanent tribute, a statue in Morley, the | :20:54. | :20:59.
town where he first took to the stage as a child. He was dressed in | :20:59. | :21:05.
top hat and tails. She said, well, actually, it was -- would be better | :21:05. | :21:11.
if she was trapped -- she said it would be better if he was dressed | :21:11. | :21:21.
:21:21. | :21:21. | ||
in a straw boater and bow-tie. gone but not forgotten, Leeds' mat | :21:21. | :21:27.
-- very much loved Ernie. This is a thrill for me, because I | :21:27. | :21:34.
did actually meet him when I was on the other side. During us now is | :21:34. | :21:39.
James Hogg who has written this book. And also drawing, his widow. | :21:39. | :21:44.
You are smiling a lot now but if he was known as the Series one of the | :21:44. | :21:48.
two. He was not really serious but he had to be serious. They used to | :21:48. | :21:54.
call him the thin line of sanity. But he had a great sense of fun. | :21:54. | :22:00.
did, yes. He had very subtle humour. Did he mind being a stooge? No, if | :22:00. | :22:05.
he got half the money. That was very rough. James, you have written | :22:05. | :22:12.
this book. 28 million viewers bought those Christmas specials but | :22:12. | :22:16.
he was almost forced to go on stage? Yes, a kind of slavery | :22:17. | :22:20.
almost. He was supporting his family financially from the age of | :22:20. | :22:23.
seven and then taken to London at the age of 13 and left to defend | :22:23. | :22:27.
for himself because his father had to go back and look after his wife | :22:27. | :22:31.
and siblings. And that was it. He went down that same night he was | :22:31. | :22:39.
thrown on to a West End stage. That would not happen these days. There | :22:39. | :22:44.
would be social services everywhere, but he did it. And survived. Doreen, | :22:44. | :22:54.
:22:54. | :22:56. | ||
I have been talking to you, as ladies do, about jury. -- Jes. | :22:56. | :23:00.
proposed at side the Star Cinema, which must have been pulled down by | :23:00. | :23:08.
now. In York Road in Leeds. When they were in pantomime in Dewsbury, | :23:08. | :23:12.
that is where he bought the engagement ring. It was two weeks' | :23:12. | :23:16.
salary from the pantomime, and he bore the engagement ring. James, | :23:16. | :23:19.
there is a great here from the book which sums of the changing | :23:19. | :23:24.
character. Sir Michael Parkinson, and it was not just a foil to Eric. | :23:24. | :23:29.
He was much more than that, a maypole around which Eric dance. | :23:29. | :23:34.
And he was, but the thing with Ernie, Ernie had no effect, or very | :23:34. | :23:38.
little ego. Had he had a similarly eager to Eric Morecambe, they would | :23:38. | :23:42.
never have been Morecambe and Wise. But there was a change in his | :23:42. | :23:50.
character. In the late 60s. Yes, that is when Ernie really came into | :23:50. | :23:55.
his own. He was fantastic and that is my favourite part of Morecambe | :23:55. | :24:02.
and Wise, the place what I wrote. They were fantastic. It has taken a | :24:02. | :24:08.
long time to write his book, James. Doreen, you must be mingled with a | :24:08. | :24:11.
bit of sadness because you have been without him for so long, but | :24:11. | :24:15.
enormously proud. I am very proud of it and he used to love that | :24:15. | :24:20.
character because he liked to model himself on Jack Benny, he thought | :24:20. | :24:24.
that was great. He was a very generous person but he thought it | :24:24. | :24:30.
was terrific being Terra River Nene. I must ask you one of the great | :24:30. | :24:35.
questions in modern showbusiness. Was it a week or wasn't it? | :24:35. | :24:41.
never wore a week. His hair grew like a lunatic because when they | :24:41. | :24:46.
filled he had to have it could every day. He, too has, is one of | :24:46. | :24:50.
Yorkshire's legends. I knew he loved his Yorkshire roots. And you | :24:50. | :24:58.
were touched today when you saw some of those all places. And yes. | :24:58. | :25:02.
All of the buses. I know he bought you one or two engagement rings | :25:02. | :25:07.
since the first one in Dewsbury. It has been learned to speak to you. | :25:07. | :25:12.
James, made the book do really well. It has been a pleasure. That is | :25:12. | :25:22.
:25:22. | :25:35. | ||
really lovely. That has really been the story over | :25:35. | :25:40.
the last 24 hours, heavy showers, some hail, but thankfully the | :25:40. | :25:50.

shares are on their way out by Tomorrow is cold with plenty of | :25:51. | :25:54.
sunshine but there will be showers, especially across South Yorkshire | :25:54. | :25:58.
in the morning. A little ridge of high pressure means a bit of a | :25:58. | :26:02.
ground frost tonight but perhaps an air frost first thing Thursday | :26:02. | :26:06.
morning before milder air tries to get backing from the South West on | :26:06. | :26:12.
Friday. So very changeable indeed. You can see the white clouds. Those | :26:12. | :26:16.
are the heavy showers. Torrential downpours across the Pennines. We | :26:16. | :26:21.
have had reports of Hale and the odd clap of thunder. Those showers | :26:21. | :26:31.
:26:31. | :26:31. | ||
will keep going for much of the night. There could be a bit of | :26:31. | :26:35.
wintery stuff in there. It will not cause problems elsewhere. If you | :26:35. | :26:45.

have shelter from the wind, they It will be a cold start to the day. | :26:53. | :26:57.
A lovely day across North Yorkshire, lots of sunshine and generally dry. | :26:57. | :27:07.
:27:07. | :27:09. | ||
Quite showery in the Pennine areas and South Yorkshire. By the | :27:09. | :27:13.
afternoon it will be pleasant. Generally dry with some sunshine. | :27:13. | :27:17.
Still a significant wind chill. Call for the time of year. The | :27:17. | :27:26.
average is 14. A touch of air frost Thursday morning, otherwise fine | :27:26. | :27:36.
