Welcome to Monday's edition of the programme.

Tonight, fond farewells to a Yorkshire legend, as the City of

Leeds decides how to remember Jimmy Savile, his showbiz friends paid

tribute. A one-off, no one can beat Wright -- like him, no one will

imitate him, if they try, they will be foolish. There is anyone Jimmy

Savile and he is no longer with us. We would be hearing more from Peter

Stringfellow. Also tonight, a multi-million-pound

boost for Yorkshire's struggling economy, we will be hearing from

some of the winners. And we meet the Yorkshire

schoolchildren who have got to travel back in time to test a brand

new Doctor Who game. A moody sky earlier on, will it

stay dry for trick and treaters? Good evening. Tonight on Look North,

we remember a true Yorkshire legend. Serge Jimmy Savile, who would have

been 85 today, died in his sleep at the weekend. Plans are now under

way for a permanent memorial for one of Britain's best known and

trainers. Charlotte Leeming is at the Royal Armouries where a book of

condolence has been opened. You have also been shown around his

flat in Roundhay today? That's right. What an honour that was.

Here at this a hall which was named after Sir Jimmy Savile Int 2007,

very appropriate that this is where the book of opera -- but has been

opened. People has been -- people have been signing it. I was lucky

enough to meet up with Jimmy's nephew Roger earlier, he allowed me

into Sir Jimmy's flat and it was eight reminder spending time in and

around Roundhay, where he spent most of his life, how well loved

jewellery. For several decades, Sir Jimmy Savile was the base of

British television. He once claimed to be the world's first-ever disc

jockey, but it was his 19 years on Jim'll Fix It which made him a

national institution. Dr Jim, please can you fix it for me to

drive a high-speed train, I am six. Despite his wealth and fame, Sir

Jimmy decided to live in the city where he was born. It was here

where his body was filmed -- found on Saturday morning, he died in his

sleep. Today, his nephew showed me round the place he called home for

more than 30 years. He did not really associate with famous people

All-Stars. He was more than happy when he was with ordinary people.

Is one for loss of the in life was that these were the people who had

put him in the position he was in - - his one of philosophy in life was

He was a regular sight in the local shops and restaurants. Most

mornings, he would meet up with his friends at this cafe, so how do

they think one of the city's most famous sons should be remembered?

We definitely need a statue. We have got the Mandela Square, we

should call it the Jimmy Savile Square, why not? Utilise the

facilities and put a statue up. lasting legacy for this ubiquitous

presenter and prolific fund raiser is something Leeds council are now

considering. Most of our staff had already met him in some pot of

their lives in the last few years, which is a tremendous tribute to

him being one of the Leeds people. He may have been a private man, but

his home is full of souvenirs and mementoes which reflect a life full

of achievement. He chose to live alone but it seems he was anything

but lonely. When you look at some of these

photos in this hall tonight, he was with cold is Presley and the

Beatles, showing what an important figure he was -- he bores with

Elvis Presley. Next week, hundreds of people are are expecting its at

his funeral. We are told tonight that some of his friends and family

will be meeting at one of his favourite restaurants in round cake

to celebrate his life. He was one of the best-known faces

in show business put up for decades, his pioneering radio and TV shows

attracted millions of viewers. But it began in humble beginnings in

the city he loves, in Leeds. really is mine! It is mine, I am

telling you! A proud moment, Sir Jimmy, a night of the realm,

honoured for a lifetime of charity work. I was born into a family

which raised money for all manner of things. Anything to make --

raise money for the troops, the lad abroad. And I grew up in that

atmosphere, and I kept it going, just like someone born into a

circus family goes into the circus. Jimmy was the youngest of seven and

his mother, the Duchess, was the only woman in his life. Four years,

he lived in Leeds in his old fat -- old family home, casually part in

the Rolls-Royce outside. He became a potent symbol of his

fund-raising, first as a professional reader, then Marathon

man. His eyesight was not good enough for war service, so he was

drafted into the minds and stayed for seven years. -- he was drafted

into mining. He fell into the wrestling game. What he really

wanted was a job working with his favourite things, pop music and

girls. He found it managing dance halls for Mecca, which leads to his

next career move, DJ-ing. present record in a dance hall, you

did not have to be a suit and a collar and tie. You had to be a

character. And naturally, I was always a character, and still am,

as a matter of fact. Its number one, Welcome to this week's top DJ,

Jimmy Savile! In the middle of all this, Jimmy started work as a

volunteer porter at the LG I. He wanted to do more than -- more to

help so his charity work at hospitals really took off. Good

evening, or welcome to another edition of Jim'll Fix It. A more

conventional image during the Jim'll Fix It years. It became one

of the most popular children's TB programmes in the late 1970s and

More recently, around the time of his 80th birthday, Sir Jimmy

revealed more intimate details of his life to journalist Louis

heaven. Thank you so much to Howard Silverman, he was the best man at

your wedding and best friend. was a natural thing, you ask your

best Powell to be the best man, and at the time, I said, Jimmy, I

wanted to be my best man. He was the only person I would ask. He

said to me, you can't get married! He said, you have signed a pact. We

signed a pact years ago. Whoever is the first one to get married, we

have got to top that person, I am sending the lads round with the

American -- Italian accents! you did get married. Yes, he was a

great best man, a great speech. he did not wear a shell-suit, I

asked him to wear a suit? I said, do me a favour, we are having a

nice do, do not wear this. He said, I will wear my shell-suit. He said,

only millionaires and trumps can get away with wearing its shell

suits. When I went round, he had the beautiful suit on. He had the

night had round his neck. He looked great. In two weeks' time, he was

due to turn the Christmas lights on and he had said to your mate Dave,

he said, I am going to wear my hair. No medallions, because I loved

Ilkley. He phoned me up the same night and said, I am turning the

light on in Ilkley. It is his birthday today as well. We will

talk more about his eccentricities in the moment, but let's hear from

Peter Stringfellow. You can't really say Jimmy Savile without

smiling. I am sure he would not mind even though he is no longer

with us. Jimmy Savile, you have got to smile. Does anyone remember

Jimmy not smiling or being happy? Has anyone got any memories of him

being nasty on camera, or sad? I have not. We had earlier, people

said he was an eccentric. Some people said he was a loner, but you

save it is not the case. complete opposite. I have been pals

with him for 40 years, Tony Blackburn said he was alone on TV.

Jimmy was not like that. He'd never even had a coquette in the house,

he went out every single night. -- never even had a cooker in the

house. A wise man! I think what it was, he was friends with the royal

family. He was friends with Elvis, he was friends with Mrs Thatcher,

he went three times or four times to Mrs Thatcher's... But his real

friends were ordinary Leeds broke. Ordinary people. As I always say,

someone like me, a hairdresser, I used to do his hair when he had it

Beasant. -- when he had it decent! You are going for a celebration

tonight, to say happy birthday, you are taking a picture, let's just

see what Peter Stringfellow thinks his legacy to the world of DJ-ing

will be. It was Jimmy who started the showmen D J. No one was a

showman BJ, anyone who is a showman the day-to-day cannot say it is

because -- it is not because of Jimmy Savile. I quickly became my

own personality when I was the DJ because of him. He influenced so

many people. Jimmy Savile was running around anywhere in Leeds,

and all of the disc jockeys look like Jimmy Savile! He was clever, p

encouraged that. He was determined to pay tribute. Can I say one thing

was like you gave him the opportunity to be your best man,

but he gave you a job to do when he passed away. A job that was

important that he thought a lot about. I hope you do not think it

is to in Tricia to ask what that was. -- too intrusive. Not at all.

He wanted the words, on the grave, I have told his family this, it was

good while it lasted. It was one heck of a time, and I am privileged

to have been his friend. It has opened doors that I would never

have had. I have met so many famous people and all down to Jimmy.

surgery unit should close? A �143 million public money

investment is to be pumped into the Yorkshire economy to kick-start

job-creation. The cash will include a multi-million-pound loan to

Sheffield Forgemasters, nearly two years after a similar loan was

controversially withdrawn by the coalition government. It is thought

the whole package should lead to around 3,000 new jobs. Forgemasters

will receive a loan worth about �36 million. The Westfield project in

Bradford city centre against a �70 million boost. Our political editor

has the details. Nick Clegg in a Forgemasters hard

hat and safety glasses - just 17 months after he provoked a

political storm by backing the cancellation of an �80 million

development loan to the Sheffield steel components maker of. This

morning, he was at the plant making a rather different announcement.

Forgemasters will receive a multi- million-pound loan. They Deputy

Prime Minister denies it is a U- turn, insisting the company itself

made a new bid for backing from the Government's regional growth fund.

A 36 million pound loan this time, which is says will allow it to take

an increasing part of the international market for nuclear

power station components. We said all along we were keen to continue

to support the company and we have now, through the regional growth

fund - which are set up and over see - -- which I set up. Do I am

delighted we have been able to support the expansion of Sheffield

Forgemasters in the way they say they want, here in Sheffield.

Clegg has, at last, listened to the people of the city. They have been

telling him for 18 months that he got this wrong and today he has

acknowledged that. An apology would have been nice, but we will take

what we have got. Another of the 24 successful bids across Yorkshire is

a �17 million grant to tackle the problem of Bradford's in from the

city centre black hole. Dogged by a lack of private investment, the

city council will use the money to offer rate reductions as incentives

for shops and businesses wanting to move into a new development here.

It is affecting jobs in the town and businesses in the town, by not

being able to get the town centre sorted out and brought into the

21st century. The fund will now enable them to do that. It is very

good news, not just for the town centre but for the whole of

Bradford. In a separate announcement, the government

confirmed 1000 more construction jobs, replacing the partially

demolished a coal-fired power station just north of Doncaster

with a gas-fired plant. Also, an additional motive fuel incineration

plant alongside the Ferrybridge power station near Pontefract.

The Chief Constable of North Yorkshire, who admitted gross

misconduct earlier this year, could be paid �200,000 at the end of his

contract under Home Office regulations. Graham Maxwell helped

a relative in a recruitment exercise. The Police authority

decided not to renew his contract. The funeral of a Leeds businessman,

Arshad Chaudhry, has been held today. He founded the Asian

business network and spoke out against extremism in his role on

the Leeds Muslim Forum. He died of cancer this weekend.

A BBC investigation will tonight investigate children's heart

services, which could seat children's heart surgery in Leeds

stop. BBC Yorkshire's Inside Out programme has spoken to a number of

independent experts from Britain and abroad who don't accept the

criteria being used to make decisions about the unit.

Emily Taylor is six years old and is having an operation to fix a

hole in her heart. She is one of around 3,500 children who will

undergo surgery this year. For families, it is an extremely

worrying time. It has just been dreadful. We had to try and cope,

be strong. Slightly further down. But the way children's heart

surgery in England is carried out is about to change. The NHS police

surgical centres must have four surgeons carrying out a minimum of

400 operations a year, to ensure their skills are well practised. To

achieve this, some centres would need to close and be consolidated

into fewer, bigger units. But there have been questions about where

this figure has come from. We spoke to a US-based author of three of

the seven key reports considered by the NHS review team. If one has to

make a decision, and one wants to base it on the data that is in

existence, the number of 350 cases per year for a centre-back wants to

be -- a centre that wants to be adept in all areas of congenital

heart surgery is reasonable. If the figure was lower, say 350, arguably

more Donitz might remain viable under the proposals. -- more units.

The basis is having enough work to keep the surgeons' skill and to

have enough surgeons working together to be able to have a

proper training environment, and the ability for surgeons to do the

difficult tasks together. We are able to close this directly.

children's heart surgery unit in Leeds is one of five across the

country facing closure. The NHS says the results should be

announced by the end of the year. There is a special Inside Out

programme tonight, looking at that issue.
