Thank you. Welcome to Look North. Those pictures sum it up. Yorkshire | :00:09. | :00:14.
takes a battering as gale-force winds hit the region. While live in | :00:14. | :00:17.
Leeds city centre runs the strong winds really begin to take a grip | :00:17. | :00:22.
on this county of Yorkshire. Costs have already reached 70 miles an | :00:22. | :00:25.
hour and roads have been closed -- gusts. | :00:25. | :00:29.
There is a river rescue going on in North Yorkshire as we speak. Also | :00:30. | :00:34.
tonight, the Bradford-based shoe shop looking for a buyer. Barratts | :00:34. | :00:40.
goes into administration again. The carrying the Olympic flame, the | :00:40. | :00:45.
inspirational stories of Yorkshire's 2012 George bears. | :00:45. | :00:51.
is massive for me. -- torch-bearer it. It is massive for me. It is a | :00:51. | :00:56.
great honour. There is still a warning in place for Gaels or so | :00:56. | :00:59.
they are gales over the next few hours. The very latest coming up | :00:59. | :01:09.
:01:09. | :01:11. | ||
Good evening. Welcome to Look North. High winds have been battering | :01:11. | :01:15.
large parts of Yorkshire are causing disruption to the roads and | :01:15. | :01:19.
the rail network. In the last hour it has been revealed there is a | :01:19. | :01:24.
river rescue going on in Swaledale. We will have the latest in a moment. | :01:24. | :01:29.
A massive Gale has been recorded and poor is going to be here with | :01:29. | :01:34.
the latest travel news in a moment. First, Harry is outside bearing the | :01:34. | :01:38.
elements in Leeds city centre. It is still very windy? It is indeed. | :01:38. | :01:44.
Only a few days ago we were talking about how mild November has been. | :01:44. | :01:48.
December seems to be very wild, certainly today has. The winced | :01:48. | :01:52.
originated in the Atlantic and throughout the course of the day | :01:52. | :01:55.
they batted mainly in North Yorkshire. More about that in a | :01:55. | :02:00.
moment. Ian Wright has been out and about in West and South Yorkshire. | :02:00. | :02:03.
Let's start by looking at what happened in North Yorkshire. Cathy | :02:03. | :02:08.
Killick went to investigate. One of the first casualties of the | :02:08. | :02:15.
wind, a lorry on the A 66 near Scotch Corner. The road was closed | :02:15. | :02:19.
for an hour while wreckage was recovered. It is open now, but | :02:19. | :02:23.
conditions are hazardous. It is closed to high-sided vehicles. In | :02:23. | :02:27.
York, the erection of the York will was delayed because of the wind. It | :02:27. | :02:31.
was hoped it would be up and turning by tomorrow. That has been | :02:31. | :02:37.
blown off by the weather. It is looking more like Sunday now. It -- | :02:37. | :02:42.
we will make announcements. When it opens the capsules are lovely and | :02:42. | :02:46.
warm inside. Don't worry about the weather when we are up and running. | :02:46. | :02:51.
In the Yorkshire Dales it was not the day for walking. The mountains | :02:51. | :02:55.
were deserted. The ground Sodom and thought was localised flooding | :02:55. | :03:00.
after driving rain. You can't see the wind but it was fierce. I'm | :03:00. | :03:05.
scared I'm going to lose my hat! I am a few miles north of Settle. | :03:05. | :03:10.
There is no one else here, hardly surprising. I can measure the wind | :03:10. | :03:20.
:03:20. | :03:22. | ||
speed. I hold it up. Let's have a look. Yes, maximum 50 my it -- 55 | :03:22. | :03:29.
mph. That is Gail Force, storm- force. It feels like it! Over on | :03:29. | :03:34.
the coast the sea looked flat but the coastguards are on the alert. | :03:34. | :03:38.
In this weather the dangers are on the clifftops. We have had | :03:38. | :03:41.
recordings at our operations room that it has been about 20 knots | :03:41. | :03:47.
westerly but boosting up to 43 knots, which is 50 miles an hour. | :03:47. | :03:51.
Although it has calmed down here, if you are on the clifftops because | :03:51. | :03:54.
the wind adopt -- the windows of the land there is every possibility | :03:54. | :03:58.
it would take you off balance, particularly after the raid. Paps | :03:58. | :04:03.
are very slippery. With wind speeds increasing we have not seen the | :04:03. | :04:06.
worst of the weather it and all that rain is on its way off the | :04:06. | :04:12.
hills. This is near Gargrave, very hazardous and already full to the | :04:12. | :04:19.
brim. This is the road outside Leeds' | :04:19. | :04:23.
tallest building, Bridge what a place. Very windy, a bit like -- a | :04:23. | :04:28.
bit like a wind tunnel. There was a tragic accident here earlier in the | :04:28. | :04:32.
year weather high-sided vehicle toppled on top of a pedestrian. | :04:32. | :04:35.
There are no chances today, the road has been closed to big lorries. | :04:35. | :04:39.
It was not just drivers facing problems. Pedestrians were battling | :04:39. | :04:43.
with the elements as wind and rain picked up around lunchtime. The | :04:43. | :04:47.
higher up we got the worst the weather seemed to get. This was | :04:47. | :04:52.
heading west on the M62 above the Pennines towards saddle was. | :04:52. | :04:56.
Sprayed making driving conditions difficult and dangerous -- | :04:56. | :05:00.
Saddleworth. All the major routes were being monitored carefully. | :05:00. | :05:04.
have seen wind speeds come down lately. The weather is moving | :05:04. | :05:08.
further north. For our region we are thinking about clearing up from | :05:08. | :05:13.
localised flooding we have had, so we have reopened carriageway -- | :05:13. | :05:15.
carriage ways that were closed because of that and we are making | :05:16. | :05:20.
sure that signs are set and traffic officers can respond in the right | :05:20. | :05:24.
place to have any further incidents that may occur. At one The Edge | :05:24. | :05:28.
services drivers told us it had been bad on the roads. -- at | :05:28. | :05:33.
Woolley Edge services. Some people are driving like complete idiots. | :05:33. | :05:37.
am taking buses coming down from Perth, there are 130 mile an hour | :05:37. | :05:41.
gusts up there. In South Yorkshire the main problem was the Woodhead | :05:41. | :05:46.
Pass. The road has been closed to all vehicles as a safety precaution. | :05:46. | :05:49.
In Sheffield Christmas shoppers got buffeted by the wind and had to put | :05:50. | :05:55.
up with more rain. And that England's highest airport, Leeds | :05:55. | :06:01.
Bradford, passengers braced themselves for a bumpy landing. So | :06:01. | :06:03.
far there have been no flights delayed or cancelled because of the | :06:03. | :06:09.
weather. I suppose that is good news. We | :06:09. | :06:12.
always right -- we always rely and your contribution as well to | :06:12. | :06:16.
complement the pictures we try to get for you on Look North. On | :06:16. | :06:22.
Facebook tonight, Diane Armer has told us that it is blowing a gale | :06:22. | :06:25.
on Nettleton Hill near Huddersfield and she has lost her chicken roof | :06:25. | :06:32.
over a six ft fence. Donna has said she is avoiding the M62 because if | :06:32. | :06:35.
it is anything like the M one that she experienced earlier, there is a | :06:36. | :06:39.
warning for everyone to stay off the M60 to. On Twitter, Martin | :06:39. | :06:46.
tells us that his children's play house blew over a six ft fence as | :06:46. | :06:50.
well. We will give you more details later. The Windies here, it is | :06:50. | :06:54.
pouring down with rain. Back to you in the studio. | :06:54. | :07:00.
We will hear from you later in the programme, Harry. As we have been | :07:00. | :07:03.
hearing the worst affected area is in North Yorkshire. An RAF | :07:03. | :07:07.
helicopter has been carrying out a rescue in Swaledale. Danny Savage | :07:07. | :07:12.
is here for us from Scotch Corner. What do we know about the rescue | :07:12. | :07:18.
operation? We understand it took place earlier on this afternoon | :07:18. | :07:22.
before it got dark. Some sort of incident in the Swaledale area, | :07:22. | :07:25.
although the information we are getting is that it may have taken | :07:25. | :07:29.
place between Lee Byrne and Middleham, which is more like | :07:29. | :07:34.
Wensleydale. We understand the RAF helicopter was involved, rescuing | :07:34. | :07:39.
three people from a car. It seems the vehicle ended up in the river. | :07:39. | :07:43.
Those rivers are really swollen at the moment. When I was on top of | :07:43. | :07:48.
the Pennines to date, I was amazed at the water melting from the snow | :07:48. | :07:52.
earlier in the week, rushing down into the rivers. Lots of rivers | :07:52. | :07:55.
were looking really swollen. It does not surprise me there has been | :07:55. | :07:59.
some sort of incident. We do not know if a bridge has collapsed, or | :07:59. | :08:03.
a wall has gone, but it is ongoing and more information is coming out | :08:03. | :08:08.
as time goes on. There has been real problems in the area where you | :08:08. | :08:12.
are, on the roads particularly earlier today, hasn't there? Yes, | :08:12. | :08:16.
the A66 behind me off to the left heads over the Pennines towards | :08:16. | :08:21.
Penrith. It was shut for some time today because the winds were so bad, | :08:21. | :08:25.
then it reopened do everything but high-sided vehicles. We went up on | :08:25. | :08:30.
to the top and a vehicle had blown over on to its side on the summit. | :08:30. | :08:34.
Luckily the driver escaped without injury but it did illustrate just | :08:34. | :08:39.
how windy it was and has been and is likely to be this evening. Keep | :08:39. | :08:42.
listening to your local radio station from the BBC for | :08:42. | :08:45.
information as the evening goes on. The worst conditions may not be | :08:45. | :08:51.
over yet. Take care travelling back, sent you for bringing us the latest. | :08:51. | :08:56.
Some incidents still going on as we speak. Paul is here. We know it was | :08:56. | :09:01.
forecast. Incredibly we concentrated on the speed of the | :09:01. | :09:04.
winter and the force of the water seems to be what most people are | :09:04. | :09:08.
noticing. It was very heavy rain on the cold front and there has been | :09:08. | :09:11.
snow over the tops of the hills which is causing rivers to be | :09:11. | :09:15.
swollen. From a wind speed point of view we had 72 miles an hour at | :09:15. | :09:19.
Church Fenton and many stations recorded in excess of 60 miles an | :09:19. | :09:23.
hour. Normally, when you get above 70 miles an hour, there is a lot | :09:23. | :09:26.
more disruption than we have seen this afternoon. Quite whether -- | :09:26. | :09:30.
quite why there has not been is anybody's guess but there has been | :09:30. | :09:35.
it will land winds are picking up. We have had 60 miles an hour at | :09:35. | :09:37.
Leeds-Bradford Airport in the last ten minutes. The warning is still | :09:37. | :09:42.
in force for the next six hours and we could see disruption. Lots of | :09:42. | :09:46.
mentions about things going over six ft fences but it goes to prove | :09:46. | :09:49.
that if you have anything, take it inside because the biggest danger | :09:49. | :09:55.
for drivers is things blowing over, trees still. Definitely. It may be | :09:55. | :09:59.
that people have taken heed of the warnings issued yesterday on | :09:59. | :10:03.
weather forecasts. I was in Leeds this lunchtime and it was did it -- | :10:03. | :10:07.
it was deserted. A gust of 72 miles an hour, you would usually expect | :10:07. | :10:12.
more problems. He will be here later to tell us. It is not over | :10:12. | :10:17.
yet. No, I don't think it is. weather is causing disruption on | :10:17. | :10:21.
the roads in Yorkshire. Flooding has closed the A6108 Middleham Road | :10:21. | :10:27.
at Leyburn and the A684 at Hawes. In South Yorkshire strong winds | :10:27. | :10:34.
have closed the A628 Woodhead Pass between the A616 and A57 Woolley | :10:34. | :10:44.
:10:44. | :11:21. | ||
The flight from Malaga will come in at 8:30pm. We are back at 8pm and | :11:21. | :11:25.
10pm and Paul will be busy in between. He will have the latest in | :11:25. | :11:29.
about 20 minutes on those predicted high winds. | :11:29. | :11:35.
Still to come on Look North. Setting our big cities free. Nick | :11:35. | :11:38.
Clegg has pledged to Sheffield and Leeds council's, he says they can | :11:39. | :11:47.
have more freedom from Westminster. There is more depressing jobs news | :11:47. | :11:51.
that our region. The Bradford-based chain of shoe shops has been placed | :11:51. | :11:55.
in administration putting thousands of jobs at risk. It is the second | :11:55. | :11:59.
time Barratts, which employs 4,000 people across the country, has gone | :11:59. | :12:04.
into administration. Alan Whitehouse reports. | :12:04. | :12:07.
It is two weeks before what Christmas in Leeds. There are | :12:07. | :12:10.
plenty of people browsing in Barratts but not many people are | :12:10. | :12:16.
buying anything. Why? They did not have what I was looking for. I'm | :12:16. | :12:21.
doing a mission to see what is out there. Nobody came up to me but | :12:21. | :12:25.
I've literally walked in and had to browse and came out again. Not | :12:25. | :12:28.
really that interested in buying anything at the moment. Just to see | :12:28. | :12:33.
what bargains there were. They are not very nice shoes. Not what I'm | :12:33. | :12:40.
looking for. The company employs just under 4,000 staff at 190 shops, | :12:40. | :12:44.
plus concessions in other stores. The traders Priceless Shoes. | :12:45. | :12:49.
Yorkshire will be hit by job losses because in addition to the shops | :12:49. | :12:52.
the headquarters is here. So far there is no news of what might | :12:52. | :12:57.
happen here but the area's MP says it is another blow. These are | :12:57. | :13:02.
desperately worrying times at all times of the year. We are in a | :13:02. | :13:05.
terrible financial mess as a country, trying to get out of that | :13:05. | :13:09.
financial crisis that we are in and that means there are lots of people | :13:09. | :13:13.
who are concerned about their futures, but none mosso than the | :13:13. | :13:19.
workers in this particular factory. Barratts is part of the former | :13:19. | :13:22.
style lope shoe empire. It has been a big high-street name for decades | :13:22. | :13:26.
but now the future is uncertain. Administrators say they will keep | :13:26. | :13:31.
shops open for the time being but for the work force their run no | :13:31. | :13:33.
long-term guarantees. The high street is treating the worst | :13:33. | :13:37.
pounding that anyone can remember. Too many customers are paying off | :13:37. | :13:40.
mortgages and repaying credit cards instead of spending. That has meant | :13:40. | :13:43.
some big high-street names have disappeared and the only certainty | :13:43. | :13:53.
:13:53. | :13:56. | ||
is that others will follow before Child serial killer Robert Black | :13:56. | :14:02.
has had his jail sentence extended. The 64-year-old murdered Sarah | :14:02. | :14:06.
Harper from Morley near Leeds, and two other young girls, in the 1980s. | :14:06. | :14:11.
He has been given a further 25 years for killing a nine-year-old | :14:11. | :14:14.
girl in Northern Ireland. A meeting to discuss controversial | :14:14. | :14:18.
plans to build a large new Tesco supermarket in Scarborough is under | :14:18. | :14:23.
way. There has been some local opposition to the plant stall, with | :14:23. | :14:27.
a petition against the scheme at Dean Road receiving more than 5,000 | :14:27. | :14:33.
petitions. -- signatures. Doncaster Council has announced plans to cut | :14:33. | :14:38.
the pay of almost 7,000 staff. Most will lose 4% of their salary and | :14:38. | :14:42.
see their hours reduced. The council says it will produce -- | :14:42. | :14:47.
protect around 250 jobs, but 600 jobs will still have to go. Unions | :14:47. | :14:53.
have described the plans as unacceptable. They are deeply | :14:53. | :14:57.
unfair across the board. The proposal the council has presented | :14:57. | :15:02.
only include very marginal protections, for a very small | :15:02. | :15:06.
number of low-paid workers. For everyone else, it will result in | :15:06. | :15:11.
pay cuts of hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds. It is really | :15:11. | :15:15.
hard for them and it is a painful Asker, but we are in extremely | :15:15. | :15:21.
painful circumstances and it is about the balance between this and | :15:21. | :15:25.
damage to other individuals and services. Staff understand the | :15:25. | :15:29.
context. Two Yorkshire's cities will get more control over more | :15:29. | :15:33.
powers currently in the hands of officials in London. Sheffield and | :15:33. | :15:37.
Leeds will be able to take over many of the budgets currently run | :15:37. | :15:40.
by central government. The government says it is a power shift | :15:40. | :15:50.
:15:50. | :15:50. | ||
that will said big cities free of control. -- set. | :15:50. | :15:57.
Spot the odd ones out, from Sheffield, the City of Leeds, | :15:57. | :16:02.
Wakefield and, lastly, the City of Bradford. Today, Leeds and | :16:02. | :16:06.
Sheffield became quite a bit different. It was Nick Clegg who | :16:06. | :16:12.
got that news for them. We are here to discuss an immensely important | :16:12. | :16:18.
issue, if not the most important issue facing our country, which is | :16:18. | :16:25.
how we rebalance our country's very lopsided economy. The big idea | :16:25. | :16:28.
spelt out to this audience of politicians, council chief | :16:28. | :16:32.
executives and business leaders gathered in Leeds, is to allow aid | :16:32. | :16:37.
of England's biggest cities - the two from Yorkshire be in Leeds and | :16:37. | :16:42.
Sheffield - to take powers and budgets currently in the hands of | :16:42. | :16:46.
central government and boost their own local economies as they see fit. | :16:46. | :16:49.
It is the biggest transfer of freedom and new powers to cities | :16:49. | :16:54.
like Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester and Birmingham in generations. We | :16:54. | :16:59.
are giving more power over money, transport, rail, road projects, how | :17:00. | :17:03.
you provide skills to young people, how you provide welfare. | :17:03. | :17:07.
practical terms, it will allow Leeds and Sheffield to co-ordinate | :17:07. | :17:11.
apprentice and skills training to meet local needs. Business rates | :17:11. | :17:16.
will be set and spend locally, allowing tens of millions to be | :17:16. | :17:22.
borrowed on the strength of that. Discounts on rates to attract new | :17:22. | :17:26.
business, and a control in public transport, deciding where and when | :17:26. | :17:31.
buses and trains will run. So will that give these cities an advantage | :17:31. | :17:35.
over the rest of Yorkshire? believe in collaboration and we | :17:35. | :17:41.
have got other big cities to work with, like York, Bradford, | :17:41. | :17:49.
Wakefield's, who are also important in terms of up all for all economy. | :17:49. | :17:52.
-- hour overall economy. government says it will make the | :17:52. | :17:56.
changes by next spring, and it might have some more news for other | :17:56. | :18:03.
cities next year. Before 7 o'clock: Carrying a flame | :18:03. | :18:06.
- hundreds in Yorkshire discover that they will carry the Olympic | :18:06. | :18:16.

We love this lady and there has been a lot of controversy that she | :18:20. | :18:24.
was not mentioned in the BBC awards, so congratulations to Doncaster's | :18:24. | :18:27.
Sarah Stevenson, who has been named Sunday Times Sportswoman of the | :18:27. | :18:33.
Year. She is the taekwondo world champion and his brilliant. She is | :18:33. | :18:36.
28 but it has not been a good year for her, because you have lost both | :18:36. | :18:40.
her parents in the last year. She recently won the Yorkshire Award | :18:40. | :18:48.
for Sporting Achievement. -- she has lost. Winning this is such a | :18:48. | :18:53.
nice end to the year. I am looking forward to January now, and that is | :18:53. | :18:58.
when everything will be focused. It will not be Sarah who lost her | :18:58. | :19:03.
parents, but Sarah who is going for gold in London. Hundreds of people | :19:03. | :19:06.
from across Yorkshire were today told that they will get to carry | :19:06. | :19:10.
the Olympic torch throughout the county next year. Thousands were | :19:10. | :19:14.
nominated for the honour. I will be talking to two very proud women | :19:14. | :19:19.
surely, who have been chosen, but first, we have been out to me two | :19:19. | :19:24.
inspirational young men who have been paid. Let's introduce you to | :19:24. | :19:28.
12-year-old George Stocker from Little Ribston, near Wetherby, and | :19:28. | :19:33.
Paul Haygreen from Elland. For one, the Love Is rugby but for | :19:33. | :19:37.
the other it is football. They will both carry the torch. The George | :19:37. | :19:42.
has been playing rugby since he was under seven but then he got ill, | :19:42. | :19:46.
but now he is back and he will be the Olympic torch bearer. Just 12 | :19:46. | :19:51.
years old, George Stocker has already raised 50,000 for fellow | :19:51. | :19:54.
cancer patients. He was on a rugby tour when he started feeling sick | :19:54. | :19:58.
and getting headaches. A week later, he was diagnosed with a brain | :19:58. | :20:02.
tumour. An operation to remove it and cure therapy meant he had to | :20:02. | :20:05.
give up the sport he loved for a while, so he put his energy into | :20:05. | :20:11.
charity work. I went through such a horrible time and a horrible | :20:11. | :20:14.
experience, and I always just thought of others. I never thought | :20:14. | :20:21.
of myself and what I was going through. I knew that someone else | :20:21. | :20:27.
had had worse. Aged just four, bar was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes | :20:27. | :20:32.
but he has not let it affect his desire to play high-level football. | :20:32. | :20:39.
It affects me every day but you just get on with it. -- Paul | :20:39. | :20:46.
Haygreen. You need to keep it under control, but it is part of you, so | :20:46. | :20:50.
that is why I want to perform. I need to keep control of it. He also | :20:50. | :20:54.
works with younger children with diabetes and has a very clear | :20:54. | :21:00.
message for them. You just say, "don't let it stop you live in your | :21:00. | :21:06.
life." Bay to do what they want to do. It is part of them. It will not | :21:06. | :21:12.
be as easy but if you want to do something, it will not stop you. -- | :21:12. | :21:19.
they should do. It is massive for me. It will be part of the history | :21:19. | :21:23.
and the Olympics. It is a great honour. I feel very honoured and | :21:23. | :21:27.
excited. It has not really sunk in yet. | :21:27. | :21:31.
Two others have just been found out that they have been chosen as Torch | :21:31. | :21:39.
bearers. We know Hannah Cockcroft. That is a wonderful thing. We have | :21:39. | :21:46.
not met Helen McKenzie, who is from Britain. You had cancer. But you do | :21:46. | :21:50.
brilliantly. Yes, it is all gone. And in celebration you will be | :21:50. | :21:55.
carrying the torch. You must be thrilled! I am utterly thrilled, | :21:55. | :22:00.
really humbled, honoured, proud, flattered. All these words come to | :22:00. | :22:06.
mind. I am over the moon. It must have been a rough and tough time. | :22:06. | :22:10.
It is tough for all of us - the whole family, friends - cancer does | :22:10. | :22:16.
not just affect one person. But I will be carrying this torch for | :22:16. | :22:19.
every woman who has ever felt the fear of finding a lump and anyone | :22:19. | :22:24.
who has ever heard the word and elegant. And you are proof that you | :22:24. | :22:28.
can beat it. Have you been training yet? Yes, I have been out running | :22:28. | :22:38.
today, in the rain! -- the word malignant. Hannah, I know you are | :22:38. | :22:42.
very modest, but run down the current titles that you hold. | :22:42. | :22:47.
Recently I got a name to the Aviva and UK Athletics British Paralympic | :22:47. | :22:53.
Performance of the Year 2011. I got nominated for thought the Sunday | :22:53. | :22:58.
Times Sportswoman of the Year, but I have not heard of by one that yet. | :22:58. | :23:02.
I was up again some big names, so there were some really deserving | :23:02. | :23:08.
girls. I was double world champion at the beginning of the deer, | :23:08. | :23:16.
double world junior champion... Apart from that, a quiet year! | :23:16. | :23:19.
does the torch mean? I know that the Olympics is very much in your | :23:19. | :23:23.
site. When that torture comes to Yorkshire, it will be real, won't | :23:23. | :23:30.
For me, the past four years, I have worked so hard and everyone around | :23:31. | :23:34.
me has worked so hard, and I think it will show that it is my time to | :23:34. | :23:41.
shine. I need to get my head down and work on this. I will begin then | :23:41. | :23:45.
and it will make it real. It is my first Paralympic Games at home. I | :23:45. | :23:53.
am really excited! And I presume, ladies, you want those of us who | :23:53. | :23:57.
will be watching to be out on the streets screaming for you and | :23:57. | :24:07.
:24:07. | :24:07. | ||
cheering your name. Yes, I hope so. There are 3,300 children in all the | :24:07. | :24:12.
schools that I work with, so I hope they will be lining busy streets. I | :24:12. | :24:15.
have championed Ripon children since I came into by post and this | :24:15. | :24:22.
is for them. If you are training in these winds, you are very | :24:22. | :24:32.
:24:32. | :24:34. | ||
We have just had gusts of 60 miles back are at Leeming, so it shows | :24:34. | :24:39.
the winds are picking up. There will be problems at Leeds-Bradford | :24:39. | :24:44.
airport over the next few hours. Let's look at the strongest winds | :24:44. | :24:54.
:24:54. | :24:58. | ||
we have experienced today. A lot of places above 60 mph. The warning is | :24:58. | :25:06.
still in place, with costs around 60 mph. -- with winds around 60 | :25:06. | :25:12.
miles per hour. Around Wharfedale, we could get some of funnelling. It | :25:12. | :25:20.
could be Leeds that has the highest gusts. Tadley packed isobars but by | :25:20. | :25:27.
tomorrow, few of them and it is a different direction. -- tightly. | :25:27. | :25:32.
The colt from wraps all the way around a matter is what caused the | :25:32. | :25:36.
72 Mowbray a gust at Church Fenton this afternoon. A fair number of | :25:36. | :25:41.
showers. Hale reported in Skipton in the last hour or so, too. Be | :25:41. | :25:45.
showers will turn increasingly wintry, so there could be a | :25:45. | :25:50.
covering of snow over the Pennines by the end of the night. Ice will | :25:50. | :25:57.
be an added hazard. The gales are moderating later tonight. That is | :25:57. | :26:07.
:26:07. | :26:11. | ||
the good news, but there will be A much Calder day to come tomorrow, | :26:11. | :26:15.
with partly cloudy skies. Sunny spells and a scattering of wintry | :26:15. | :26:20.
showers. Through the afternoon, there could be a band of wintry | :26:20. | :26:28.
showers of Hull, sleet or snow. Some sunny spells in between it and | :26:28. | :26:37.
a fresh westerly wind. -- showers of hail. There is a big drop in | :26:37. | :26:42.
temperatures tomorrow, so a cold snapper once more. Saturday will be | :26:43. | :26:49.
a day or sunny intervals and scattered, wintry showers. A few of | :26:49. | :26:54.
those getting further east but most will be in the West. On Sunday, it | :26:54. | :27:01.
rain in the South West, preceded by snow for a time. | :27:01. | :27:06.
Keep on training, ladies, and thank you, Paul. Let's go back to hurry | :27:06. | :27:10.
to see how he is getting on outside. You have the latest on that | :27:10. | :27:15.
accident for us, don't you? Yes, we have more details about the | :27:15. | :27:20.
RAF helicopter rescue. Two people were rescued from the River Ure in | :27:20. | :27:24.
Swell Day of. We understand it happened between Bainbridge and a | :27:24. | :27:34.
