Good evening, and welcome to Look North.

:00:04.:00:12.

On the programme tonight - fighting to stay in their homes...

:00:12.:00:18.

Residents living on a deserted estate are told they must move out

:00:18.:00:23.

to make way for new housing. have a right to live on your own

:00:23.:00:28.

land and live a peaceful life. Also on the programme tonight:

:00:28.:00:37.

think they're setting fire to something to attract our attention.

:00:37.:00:44.

The stranded people who set fire to their map to attract attention.

:00:44.:00:49.

This shop has had help from a TV makeover expert.

:00:49.:00:59.

These were the bright skies over Nidderdale. Is there a chance for

:00:59.:01:02.

more bright skies? I'll have the forecast later.

:01:02.:01:06.

Good evening. Tonight, the families who want to

:01:06.:01:09.

keep their homes versus the council who wants to redevelop. Only three

:01:09.:01:12.

houses are now lived in on the Gurnhill Estate in Featherstone, a

:01:12.:01:15.

once thriving mining community. The families say they'll never leave.

:01:16.:01:18.

But today Wakefield Council issued compulsory purchase orders, saying

:01:18.:01:20.

they were blocking regeneration and making the area a target for

:01:21.:01:23.

vandals. Emma Glasbey reports on the latest twist in this long

:01:23.:01:33.
:01:33.:01:35.

running battle. Taking my house off me to give it

:01:35.:01:38.

to a private developer to sell it to somebodyes. It was the news they

:01:38.:01:43.

didn't want to wake up to, compulsory orders being handed out

:01:43.:01:51.

to to the three remaining homeowners on a deserted estate in

:01:51.:01:55.

Featherstone. I am devastated. They have been threatening for three

:01:55.:01:59.

years, but we're going to take it to a judicial review. The families

:01:59.:02:02.

have gradually agreed to move out, leaving their homes to be

:02:02.:02:06.

demolished. There used to be more than 170 houses here. Today they're

:02:06.:02:13.

gone, and just three are still lived in. One lady who didn't want

:02:13.:02:16.

to be identified says she's determined to stay. This is where I

:02:16.:02:21.

am going to spend the rest of my life here, but to say the council

:02:21.:02:27.

can just come and take it away from you - no way. Even if I lose, I can

:02:27.:02:31.

walk away with my head held high and say I fought for that.

:02:31.:02:34.

Wakefield Council wants there to be a brand new housing development and

:02:34.:02:38.

says it's offered generous relocation deals. The package we

:02:38.:02:42.

have put in place would enable them to buy property in the area, and

:02:42.:02:46.

we'll compensate them for the loss of the property. Most of the estate

:02:46.:02:51.

has now been demolished. We do have a developer partner who is ready to

:02:51.:02:55.

move and develop the estate, so I think there are benefits to the

:02:55.:02:57.

local economy and local people in Featherstone who want to have a

:02:57.:03:04.

home. Over the years, as houses are boarded up, many of them are set on

:03:04.:03:07.

fire. Anti-social behaviour has been a serious problem. Wakefield

:03:07.:03:10.

Council says it wants to regenerate the area.

:03:10.:03:15.

A developer has been given planning permission to build more than 230

:03:15.:03:18.

homes here. The first part of the project would be to construct a

:03:18.:03:23.

brand new road, but the homes behind me would need to go.

:03:23.:03:27.

The council doesn't want the estate to remain like this any longer, but

:03:27.:03:31.

the people who own these homes say they won't be forced out. A legal

:03:31.:03:38.

battle will almost certainly follow. Emma, thank you.

:03:38.:03:41.

So what legal rights do the families have? In the past half an

:03:41.:03:43.

hour we've spoken to their solicitor who's been explaining

:03:43.:03:49.

what will happen next. We have a period of time now to

:03:49.:03:55.

either adopt a judicial review approach or go down the public

:03:55.:03:58.

inquiry route, and the acquisition of land act. My advice to my

:03:58.:04:02.

clients has been to go down the judicial review route, so within

:04:02.:04:06.

the next three months as of this morning, we have to issue in the

:04:06.:04:12.

High Court an application for judicial review for a judge to now

:04:12.:04:17.

review the actions taken by the council that leads up to this point

:04:17.:04:22.

when the order has been made. tonight: a pair of walkers stranded

:04:22.:04:26.

after dark in the Peak District were rescued by South Yorkshire's

:04:26.:04:30.

police helicopter after they set fire to a map to attract attention.

:04:30.:04:35.

The chopper faces the axe due to Government plans to make forces

:04:35.:04:39.

share helicopters, but Mark Larden and his girlfriend say they owe

:04:39.:04:43.

their lives to it. They're just setting fire to some

:04:43.:04:50.

stuff at the moment to attract our attention. Stuck in the snow in

:04:50.:04:55.

complete darkness - two walkers stranded set fire to their map to

:04:55.:04:59.

get the attention of the police helicopter. Being stuck up there,

:04:59.:05:02.

not knowing whether you would live or die is pretty scary. It didn't

:05:02.:05:06.

hit home until I got back to the base how lucky we were to be alive.

:05:07.:05:12.

Lucky and grateful too. Today Mark met the crew who rescued him and

:05:12.:05:16.

his girlfriend. We put Lisa here and you sat opposite. I remember.

:05:16.:05:21.

It was quite difficult. Like I said, we were searching for a good 40

:05:21.:05:24.

minutes with a thermal camera before we found them. When we

:05:24.:05:29.

landed, it was quite deep snow,ed a the temperature was about minus six

:05:29.:05:33.

degrees. The crew picked them up and flew them back to their base.

:05:33.:05:37.

The incident had a happy ending. The future for the helicopter isn't

:05:37.:05:41.

so bright. The Government wants police forces to save money by

:05:41.:05:44.

sharing helicopters, and under the current plans, this chopper would

:05:44.:05:48.

go. This base would close, and South Yorkshire would share the

:05:48.:05:53.

helicopters currently based in Wakefield and in Ripley in

:05:53.:05:56.

Derbyshire, but there has been strong opposition. I think it's a

:05:57.:06:01.

disgrace. It's a vital service to South Yorkshire. They need to keep

:06:01.:06:08.

it based in South Yorkshire. If the North Midland unit had come rescue

:06:08.:06:11.

me there, there would have been a lot longer, and who knows what

:06:11.:06:14.

might have happened. The future of the helicopter is being discussed

:06:14.:06:19.

by the police authority this Friday. Mark says the experience won't

:06:19.:06:23.

deter him or his girlfriend from heading out on to the hills in

:06:23.:06:27.

future. They're planning a charity hike for this summer. Of course,

:06:27.:06:30.

that's after they have bought a new map!

:06:30.:06:34.

I love that line about buying a new map - great. Nice one, Dan!

:06:34.:06:39.

Later on Look North: The American dive team are in

:06:39.:06:42.

Sheffield. Find out how they have been making friends as well as

:06:42.:06:51.

training in the Steel City ahead of the Olympics.

:06:51.:06:53.

Nine Yorkshire MPs are calling on the Government to reduce the

:06:53.:06:56.

subsidies paid to wind farms. They say it's leading to too many

:06:56.:06:59.

applications for turbines and that local people risk being brow-beaten

:06:59.:07:01.

by developers. In North Yorkshire alone, there are currently eight

:07:01.:07:04.

planning applications for large wind farms and hundreds more for

:07:04.:07:12.

smaller individual turbines, as Cathy Killick reports.

:07:12.:07:16.

Built four years ago, the eight turbines near Harrogate were

:07:16.:07:23.

fiercely opposed by local residents, but N power won the battle and now

:07:23.:07:27.

gets an estimated 2 million a year in subsidies from the Government

:07:27.:07:31.

for developing and operating these turbines, so it's not surprising

:07:31.:07:35.

that other developers are looking to follow suit. Keder Water

:07:35.:07:41.

Services has erected a testing mast on land it owns nearby and

:07:41.:07:44.

anticipates putting in a planning application for up to two dozen

:07:44.:07:50.

turbines there. It's all a part of a plan to use wind to reduce

:07:50.:07:53.

Yorkshire's whopping 45 million annual electricity bill. The energy

:07:53.:07:58.

that's created from developments such as these will be put back into

:07:58.:08:03.

the Yorkshire water electricity to power pumping stations, treatment

:08:03.:08:09.

works and really offset the need to buy that electricity from the Grid.

:08:09.:08:16.

But opponents of wind farms are suspicious. Hello. Peter rigby and

:08:16.:08:19.

Howard Ferguson are fighting the planned wind farms. They think the

:08:19.:08:23.

subsidies are skewing the market, leading to far too many

:08:23.:08:29.

applications. Once they're in, they will enevitably plan for some more

:08:29.:08:34.

because the amount of money to be made from the subsidy is so huge.

:08:34.:08:38.

Once you let a wind farm in, others follow, and once the door is open,

:08:38.:08:44.

in they go, and they keep following it up. In North Yorkshire alone,

:08:44.:08:46.

there are currently eight application for major wind farms

:08:46.:08:51.

with varying numbers of turbine, but this doesn't include hundreds

:08:51.:08:56.

of applications for smaller individual turbines peppered across

:08:56.:08:59.

the county. Not all the planning applications will result in wind

:08:59.:09:05.

farms, but some will, and they will divide opinion. For some, they're a

:09:05.:09:08.

beneficial addition to the landscape. To others, they're an

:09:08.:09:11.

inefficient blot. But with the Government subsidising them to the

:09:11.:09:15.

tune of millions, we should all expect to see more springing up

:09:15.:09:23.

around us. Altogether, more than a hundred

:09:23.:09:26.

Conservative MPs have written to the Prime Minister urging him to

:09:26.:09:29.

cut subsidies for wind turbines. That's at a time when the

:09:29.:09:33.

Government wants renewable sources such as wind to provide 15% of the

:09:33.:09:40.

UK's energy supply by 2015. Earlier I asked the MP for Selby Nigel

:09:40.:09:44.

Adams why he's supporting this campaign. What we'd like to see is

:09:44.:09:48.

a realignment and rebalancing of where that subsidy is spent.

:09:48.:09:52.

Onshore wind we'd like to see the subsidy reduced and taxpayers money

:09:52.:09:56.

- which is effectively what the subsidy is - used on renewable

:09:56.:10:01.

technologies that actually work, for example, like biomass. Are you

:10:01.:10:06.

saying onshore wind turbines aren't effective? They aren't. Even the

:10:06.:10:10.

Government's own website says they're effective 60-70% of the

:10:10.:10:13.

time. Why have we got so many? Because they're easy to get through

:10:13.:10:17.

the planning system currently. There is a heck of a lot of money

:10:17.:10:22.

if you're a wind farm developer or a landowner that has been

:10:22.:10:26.

approached. If we cut subsidies, what are the opportunities for the

:10:26.:10:31.

companies to be able to invest in renewables? I would like to refocus

:10:32.:10:35.

the taxpayers' money into a technology that's actually

:10:36.:10:40.

effective. In my own constituency, the power station would like to

:10:40.:10:44.

convert to biomass fuel, which is a renewable technology, but you're

:10:44.:10:48.

able to control the amount of power as and when you need it, which you

:10:48.:10:53.

can't do when the wind doesn't blow, for example. We'll have to leave it

:10:53.:10:56.

there. Thank you. In other news, the Catholic Church

:10:56.:11:03.

has begun an inquiry into how a priest was allowed to be ordained

:11:03.:11:09.

despite being sacked for abusing boys. He worked at St Williams Home

:11:09.:11:16.

in Market Wheaton. He was sacked in 1965. St Williams has been involved

:11:16.:11:22.

in a long-standing investigation dating back 50 years.

:11:22.:11:26.

A former cage fighter from Huddersfield has been jailed for

:11:26.:11:33.

life for killing two men linked to a IRA gang. Thomas Hay will serve

:11:33.:11:38.

30 years for shooting down two men on a remote Cornish farm. The

:11:38.:11:41.

prosecution said he murdered the men because they were demanding he

:11:41.:11:45.

go to Brazil to bring back cocaine. A funding plan has been discussed

:11:45.:11:48.

to try to keep Sheffield's museums open for the next six months.

:11:48.:11:54.

Officials have met with the Arts Council after missing out on 4

:11:54.:11:58.

million putting 45 jobs at risk. It's hoped transitional funding

:11:58.:12:04.

could be available for Millennium, Graves Gallery and Western Park

:12:04.:12:08.

Museum while restructuring takes place.

:12:08.:12:11.

Proposals have been announced in West Yorkshire which could see the

:12:11.:12:16.

biggest shape-up in local Government in decades. Plans have

:12:16.:12:22.

been drawn up to split Kirklees into two areas and renew

:12:22.:12:25.

Calderdale's boundaries. The three authorities will be joined by a

:12:25.:12:27.

single management group. The plans are put forward by the

:12:27.:12:31.

Conservatives. They say it's meant to be better value for money, but

:12:31.:12:35.

critics say sharing services could lead to job cuts.

:12:35.:12:43.

Officials at Harrogate Council have objected to plans to build a waste

:12:43.:12:50.

incinerator near Nesborough. There were protesters outside the

:12:50.:12:53.

planning meeting. They were delighted with the decision. North

:12:53.:12:55.

Yorkshire Council will make the final decision.

:12:55.:12:59.

My family have run their own business for years, and although it

:12:59.:13:03.

can be fun, it can be very stressful. As we're about to hear,

:13:03.:13:06.

if it's underperforming, that can be a stressful time. What if the

:13:06.:13:11.

younger members of the family have very different area ideas of how

:13:11.:13:18.

the firm should operate? That's exactly the situation Leeds-based

:13:18.:13:22.

firm Ketlers found itself in, so in caste came a TV presenter to try to

:13:22.:13:26.

fix things. No-one said it would be easy. The programme son BBC Two

:13:26.:13:31.

tonight. Watchit, and here's a sneak preview. Good afternoon,

:13:31.:13:41.
:13:41.:13:42.

Kettley's. When you lay like that, you'll just

:13:42.:13:49.

have him as your man serve amount! Kettley's was a traditional shop.

:13:49.:13:59.
:13:59.:13:59.

It still is to this day. Madrid? nutmeg. My goodness, gracious me.

:13:59.:14:05.

The overwhelming impression is acres of baik. It just keeps on

:14:05.:14:13.

getting uglier. Honestly, you don't see shops like this anymore. It's a

:14:13.:14:23.
:14:23.:14:24.

kind of museum piece. She's a bit harsh. So how did the makeover go?

:14:24.:14:29.

Well, Ian White's at the store now. You want to see changes? Come with

:14:29.:14:33.

me. Can you believe this was the same store that was featured on

:14:33.:14:37.

that programme. When she first walked into that store, it looked

:14:37.:14:43.

nothing like this. But wow, what a transformation. I don't want to

:14:43.:14:46.

steal Alex's thunder tonight on BBC Two, but let's talk to one of the

:14:46.:14:50.

owners. David, what a roller coaster few weeks you have had.

:14:50.:14:53.

Definitely. It has been very stressful. I don't think I would do

:14:53.:14:57.

it again. It was that bad? It was that bad, but I think it's going to

:14:57.:15:00.

be worth it. As you can see, the shop looks so much better. I was

:15:00.:15:04.

going to say, all that stress, but at the end of it, you have a

:15:04.:15:06.

fantastic-looking shop, haven't you? It looks so much better. If

:15:06.:15:09.

you watch the show tonight, you'll see the biggest transformation

:15:09.:15:13.

between the carpet and the various other things. You know, Alex

:15:13.:15:16.

certainly had a lot of things to say about the shop. Yeah. You said

:15:16.:15:20.

you were very proud particularly of the carpet. That's made such a

:15:20.:15:23.

difference, hasn't it, but tell us about some of the other little

:15:23.:15:27.

things you have perhaps changed as you have gone around. Well, the

:15:27.:15:31.

partitions, they're different and just - something simple - a bit of

:15:31.:15:35.

wallpaper on there. Again, it's all the same furniture. It's just a

:15:35.:15:40.

completely different lay-out. It's very interesting to see what type

:15:40.:15:43.

of furniture you can put with something else and make it look so

:15:43.:15:46.

much different and more appealing to the eye. There was quite a lot

:15:46.:15:49.

of emotional stuff with your dad, of course, who has been involved in

:15:49.:15:53.

the store for so long. He was reluctant for a few of the changes,

:15:53.:15:57.

wasn't he? Definitely. I can understand where he is coming from.

:15:57.:16:02.

He has been here 33 years. He was quite nervous about it, you know,

:16:02.:16:06.

especially somebody coming in telling him... Did Alex sort him

:16:06.:16:10.

out? Definitely. I don't think you can win with Alex. She's a woman

:16:10.:16:15.

not to be argued with, which reminds me of someone else back in

:16:15.:16:19.

the studio! Let me get to Harry. You're one of the salesmen and also

:16:19.:16:22.

part own the business. You have been here a long time. What do you

:16:22.:16:27.

make of it all? I think it's really good. The transformation is

:16:27.:16:30.

fantastic. It has been stressful. Yes, at times, a lot of blood,

:16:30.:16:34.

sweat and tears, but it was worth it. Do you think you were set in

:16:34.:16:37.

your ways before? I think the shop has certainly been stuck in its

:16:37.:16:42.

ways to some respect, and it needed the kick up the back side to move

:16:42.:16:45.

things on, really, yes. It looks pretty smart, I have to say. This

:16:45.:16:48.

is one of the labels. Look. They have even had big discussions and

:16:48.:16:51.

arguments what they should look like. They have completely

:16:51.:16:55.

rebranded, but this store is still selling the products it's famous

:16:55.:16:59.

for, things like the highchair. I know, David, you were telling me

:16:59.:17:03.

you managed to sell a chair that you have had for quite a long time.

:17:03.:17:07.

Yeah, I sold a chair the other day that I believe we had on the shop

:17:07.:17:10.

floor for three-and-a-half years. LAUGHTER

:17:10.:17:16.

So once that had gone home, I cracked open a bottle of bubbly and

:17:16.:17:21.

celebrated we had got rid of it. Business has picked up? Definitely,

:17:21.:17:26.

yes. The things we have taken onboard, they have worked. Very

:17:26.:17:31.

good. I wish you success. We'll see on BBC Two at 8.00pm tonight how

:17:31.:17:35.

you got on. I think I'll sit back and watch the rest of the programme.

:17:35.:17:39.

Thank you very much. Take it away. Oh, this is the life!

:17:39.:17:44.

They do look good, those chairs. If they have any old stock of those

:17:44.:17:49.

chairs, I'll have one. Before 7.00pm: still catching the

:17:49.:17:55.

eye - they took Hollywood by storm. Now the story of the Calendar Girls

:17:55.:18:05.
:18:05.:18:06.

is taken on by amateur drama groups. Now, as you all know, it's a rather

:18:06.:18:08.

special day today for happy couples around Yorkshire. And Harry reckons

:18:08.:18:17.

he's got the perfect gift. Isn't that right, Harry? Absolutely.

:18:17.:18:19.

Picture the scene - it's Valentine's night. Your lady, or

:18:19.:18:22.

gent, awaits a romantic evening. You open the present, and there you

:18:22.:18:25.

have it - two tickets for Galpharm for Huddersfield Town against

:18:25.:18:28.

Sheffield United - priceless. And this is what it is all about.

:18:28.:18:31.

Forget Charlton. They are probably promoted already. But who'll get

:18:31.:18:34.

that second automatic spot? We might know a bit more after the

:18:34.:18:38.

clash of the year so far when the Blades go to the Yorkshire club. So

:18:38.:18:41.

let's hear from the managers. In a moment, Danny Wilson. But first,

:18:41.:18:49.

Lee Clark. The local derby and two teams pushing for automatic

:18:49.:18:54.

promotion, so it will be close. It will be a full hour, I would have

:18:54.:18:57.

thought. So the atmosphere will be terrific. The stadium will be

:18:57.:19:01.

rocking, what I call a proper football match. It's going to be a

:19:01.:19:05.

cracking contest. It's going to be two teams that are going into the

:19:05.:19:10.

game on good form. Both very attack-minded, so in that respect,

:19:10.:19:15.

I would expect it to have some goals in it. That's Danny Wilson.

:19:15.:19:18.

The Sheffield Steelers can take another step towards retaining the

:19:35.:19:39.

big league title tonight. They play Nottingham at the arena with the

:19:39.:19:44.

winners moving into second, but the Steelers have had a difficult time

:19:44.:19:49.

against the Panthers. This is their only victory against them in six

:19:49.:19:52.

meetings. World number two golfer Lee

:19:52.:20:00.

Westwood is to be given the freedom of his home. He's to be the first

:20:00.:20:05.

person to be an honourary member of Bassettlaw. He'll have a ceremony

:20:05.:20:09.

at Retford town hall in March. He deserves it. A fantastic player.

:20:09.:20:13.

There are just 164 days to go until the Olympics and this week the USA

:20:13.:20:16.

diving team is in Sheffield, which will be their base for the Games.

:20:16.:20:19.

It's the ideal preparation as they head to London next week for the

:20:20.:20:22.

World Cup event at the aquatics centre, and as Tanya's been finding

:20:23.:20:27.

out, they're certainly making friends in their new home.

:20:27.:20:31.

Under the watchful eye of the United States diving team, some

:20:31.:20:34.

young Sheffield divers are put through their paces. This isn't a

:20:34.:20:37.

team that's just here for the water. It's always great to come to a

:20:37.:20:41.

place and actually be able to do more than just go to the pool, dive

:20:41.:20:45.

and go back to the hotel again. It has been great wandering around the

:20:45.:20:50.

city. We're excited to work with the kids here. It's good to get

:20:50.:20:55.

some of the culture of the place we visit. Over the years, he has been

:20:55.:20:59.

to Sheffield on numerous occasions to compete. For him and the team it

:20:59.:21:04.

has been an ideal team to compete. I love this place, the lighting,

:21:04.:21:07.

the people, roaming around the streets from the hotels to even

:21:07.:21:12.

meeting the Lord Mayor - she was great. This place is so welcoming.

:21:12.:21:17.

It's like home. It's like a dress rehearsal for the Olympic games. We

:21:17.:21:21.

love the venue here. We're going to the World Cup, the test event, next

:21:21.:21:24.

week. It's just perfect to come to Sheffield, get everything right,

:21:24.:21:28.

make sure there is nothing we need to improve on, then when we come

:21:28.:21:33.

back for the Olympic Games, it will be smooth running. The USA diving

:21:33.:21:37.

team will be based in Sheffield for the Olympic games. There will be

:21:37.:21:40.

more to be announced. The city spent about 1 million on the

:21:40.:21:43.

Olympics and say it's money well spent. We have done some work on

:21:43.:21:50.

this and know that Sheffield has already had at least 19 million

:21:50.:21:54.

worth of economic value from the 2012 Olympics. The pre-Games

:21:54.:21:58.

contribute heavily towards that. The economics of the city have done

:21:58.:22:02.

really well. These divers have taken Sheffield to its hearts. It

:22:02.:22:06.

seems the feeling is mutual. community is awesome. Everyone

:22:06.:22:11.

loves to see the United States here. It's neat. I wonder if they'll get

:22:11.:22:19.

a similar reception down south. How did you react, then, to giving

:22:19.:22:23.

those football tickets? I am working on the lates. Good job.

:22:23.:22:28.

Dedication to the BBC - can't wait. We have featured these ladies lots

:22:28.:22:30.

over the years. Auditions for new Calendar Girls

:22:30.:22:33.

have started around Yorkshire as hundreds of drama groups prepare to

:22:33.:22:36.

stage the play later this year. The story of the WI ladies has already

:22:36.:22:39.

been told by Hollywood and the West End. Now the amateur rights have

:22:39.:22:42.

been released for one year only. And one drama group from North

:22:42.:22:45.

Yorkshire has been chosen to hold the world amateur premier. Olivia

:22:45.:22:54.

Richwald can explain. The Calendar Girls from Yorkshire shot to world-

:22:55.:22:59.

wide fame after posing nude for charity 12 years ago. Their

:23:00.:23:03.

calendar sparked a global phenomenon. A film and West End

:23:03.:23:07.

play followed. Now dramatic amateur groups from around the world are

:23:07.:23:12.

getting ready to tell their story. The girls' local group, the

:23:12.:23:16.

Grassington Players, are preparing for the world amateur premier.

:23:16.:23:19.

nervous, apprehensive, a bit of adrenaline every time I think about

:23:19.:23:23.

it, sleepless nights already. It is a big thing. We're already selling

:23:23.:23:27.

tickets six months in advance. People are buzzing, buzzing for

:23:27.:23:32.

tickets all the time. So far almost 500 amateur groups are interested

:23:32.:23:36.

in putting on the play, and 250 of them have bought the rights. The

:23:36.:23:41.

stage version followed this very successful film. The characters and

:23:41.:23:45.

the names were fictional, but the story, so very British. It's

:23:45.:23:55.

How fitting, then, that this story is finally coming home. Act two,

:23:55.:24:02.

scene two, then - the church hall the following day, "All the girls

:24:02.:24:08.

are on tenterhooks." The WI does not do nudity. Sod them. I knew

:24:08.:24:14.

they wouldn't. But we do do charity. The story is in the deals. It all

:24:14.:24:18.

began here, so I think it should start its amateur life up here.

:24:18.:24:22.

It's right to do that. Yes, we shall watch it and watch it with

:24:22.:24:26.

great interest to see what they make of it. It will be brilliant.

:24:26.:24:30.

To date, the original Calendar Girls have raised more than 3

:24:30.:24:33.

million for leukaemia research, although none of them want to be in

:24:33.:24:37.

this cast. They will be among the audience for the opening night -

:24:37.:24:47.
:24:47.:24:52.

the World Amateur Premier takes We'll have the cameras there, of

course, strategically placed to make sure there is nothing shown.

:24:56.:25:00.

Do you think they'll actually go nude? I think that is the idea of

:25:00.:25:04.

it. But they're not getting paid - takes place in a very appropriate

:25:04.:25:08.

place. Let's have the weather, shall we? Snow around? Or is it all

:25:08.:25:15.

Colder for the weekend, but for the time being, the snow is gone, which

:25:15.:25:25.
:25:25.:25:34.

is great news. We have photos to Keep your photos coming in.

:25:34.:25:39.

So today we have seen a fair amount of cloud. Temperatures get to 8-9

:25:39.:25:41.

Celsius through the Vale of York. Tomorrow it is going to be fairly

:25:41.:25:45.

cloudy particularly to begin with, but we will see it brightening up

:25:45.:25:49.

as we head into the afternoon. You can see on the satellite there is a

:25:49.:25:52.

weather front that is just running down the North Sea, so that's where

:25:52.:25:57.

the cloud is going to be the thickest - towards the coast. It's

:25:57.:26:00.

going to be quite a breezy start to the day. Back to today, you can see

:26:01.:26:04.

all the cloud we have had through the course of the day. It has given

:26:04.:26:07.

us the odd light shower, but for most, a dry day. That's the way we

:26:08.:26:12.

end the day, so dry, a fair bit of cloud. That is set to thicken up as

:26:12.:26:17.

we go through the night to the east of the Vale of York, it may get

:26:17.:26:21.

thick enough to give the odd spot of rain, but for most, a dry night,

:26:21.:26:25.

a few clear spells in the west. In the west, temperatures drop the

:26:26.:26:31.

lowest - maybe to 3 Celsius in the Wales, elsewhere, 4-5 Celsius. A

:26:31.:26:34.

moderate north-westerly wind will become strong and gusty for a time

:26:34.:26:40.

along the coastline. Let's look at the sun times it rises tomorrow -

:26:40.:26:45.

7.27am, setting at a quarter past 5.00pm in the afternoon. A breezy

:26:45.:26:49.

day for the afternoon tomorrow but we'll see it brightening up for

:26:49.:26:53.

western areas. We'll see sunny spells developing, whilst the cloud

:26:53.:26:58.

further east thickens in the afternoon, but in the afternoon it

:26:58.:27:01.

brightens up. We should all see sunshine for tomorrow afternoon.

:27:01.:27:04.

The gusts will ease down as we go through the day. Temperatures

:27:04.:27:08.

tomorrow are going to be above average for the time of year, so in

:27:08.:27:14.

York, double figures - 10 Celsius - that is 50 Fahrenheit, 8-9 Celsius

:27:14.:27:17.

across the Pennines and Peak District. We'll keep a fair bit of

:27:17.:27:21.

cloud through Thursday and Friday, still giving Us spots of rain at

:27:21.:27:26.

times as that band of rain sinks southwards on Friday. It's going to

:27:26.:27:28.

bring fresher air. Frost on Saturday and just 5 Celsius on

:27:28.:27:34.

Thank you very much. That's about as far as we go for this version of

:27:34.:27:39.
