There's more throughout the evening on the BBC News Channel, and I'll be | :00:00. | 3:59:59
back with Two soldiers have died after a car | :00:00. | :00:15.
they were in left the road and hit a tree in Catterick Garrison last | :00:16. | :00:18.
night. A 23`year`old man died at the scene and a 20`year`old woman died | :00:19. | :00:21.
later at Darlington Memorial Hospital. Phil Chapman reports. | :00:22. | :00:29.
It was just after eight o'clock last night when a black car left the road | :00:30. | :00:34.
and hit a tree just opposite a golf club. The driver was pronounced dead | :00:35. | :00:40.
at the scene and the passenger, a 20`year`old woman, died later at | :00:41. | :00:44.
Darlington Memorial Hospital. Both were serving army personnel based in | :00:45. | :00:49.
the area. We believe from the initial circumstances, the vehicle | :00:50. | :00:53.
has come off the road on the nearside and collided with a tree. | :00:54. | :00:59.
Both occupants have received fatal injuries. Many people have been | :01:00. | :01:06.
arriving, lots in military uniform, to lead tributes here. This road is | :01:07. | :01:14.
a 40 mph stretch and appears to be well lit. The incident happened at | :01:15. | :01:19.
around 8pm and police are looking for witnesses to try and establish | :01:20. | :01:25.
what happened here. The chairman of the Conservative | :01:26. | :01:28.
Party Association in Thirsk has denied calling the MP Anne McIntosh | :01:29. | :01:32.
a silly little girl. Ms McIntosh has represented Thirsk and Malton since | :01:33. | :01:36.
1997 but was voted out by the local party at a meeting in London on | :01:37. | :01:39.
Friday. It means she won't be able to stand as their Conservative | :01:40. | :01:42.
candidate in the next election. Speaking exclusively to Sunday | :01:43. | :01:44.
Politics, Peter Steveney denied accusations that he doesn't like | :01:45. | :01:57.
working with women. Our greatest hero was Margaret | :01:58. | :02:02.
Thatcher. She was a wonderful woman. People really liked working for her. | :02:03. | :02:08.
I liked working with a team of women, too. It is pretty scurrilous | :02:09. | :02:16.
to have said that and it is totally and utterly untrue. We want an open | :02:17. | :02:21.
selection and we will ask for the best candidate to come forward and | :02:22. | :02:25.
whoever it is, male or female, we will support them. | :02:26. | :02:27.
Brian McDermott is expected to resume his duties as manager of | :02:28. | :02:30.
Leeds United tomorrow, after he was told he was sacked on Friday | :02:31. | :02:33.
afternoon. But 24 hours later the club issued a statement saying he | :02:34. | :02:37.
was still in post. Despite the off`field confusion, United came | :02:38. | :02:39.
from a goal down yesterday against West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield | :02:40. | :02:42.
to win 5`1, including a hat`trick from their top scorer and captain | :02:43. | :02:49.
Ross McCormack. In an interview after the game he paid tribute to | :02:50. | :02:53.
his manager and expects him to be coaching the squad at their | :02:54. | :02:56.
facilities at Thorpe Arch tomorrow morning. | :02:57. | :03:05.
That was the team that he picked yesterday so he had a great belief | :03:06. | :03:09.
in the team that could get on with the game. I believe you'll be back | :03:10. | :03:14.
in the club on Monday as manager and you'll be welcomed back by me and | :03:15. | :03:16.
the squad. And if you missed the action from | :03:17. | :03:20.
any of our teams yesterday, you can catch up with the Football League | :03:21. | :03:23.
Show on the BBC iPlayer. A service of remembrance to mark the | :03:24. | :03:26.
40th anniversary of the M62 coach bombing has taken place today. The | :03:27. | :03:29.
coach was carrying off`duty soldiers and their families when an IRA bomb | :03:30. | :03:33.
was detonated on board, killing 12 people. Faith Wilkinson reports. | :03:34. | :03:44.
It was the 4th of February 1974. Off duty soldiers and their families | :03:45. | :03:49.
were returning from a weekend break. They were making a routine coach | :03:50. | :03:52.
journey across the Pennines from Manchester to Catterick Garrison | :03:53. | :03:58.
when the device thought to have been planted by the Provisional IRA | :03:59. | :04:03.
detonated. The coach was travelling eastbound along the M62 between | :04:04. | :04:09.
junctions 25 and 26 when the bomb went off at just after midnight. The | :04:10. | :04:12.
explosion was heard for miles around. The memorial was held at the | :04:13. | :04:21.
services were those involved in the exposure were brought for first aid. | :04:22. | :04:25.
The 12 who died that day were remembered. It had a profound impact | :04:26. | :04:31.
because everyone knows someone who was involved in the aftermath and | :04:32. | :04:35.
those kind of stories are embedded in the local consciousness. The IRA | :04:36. | :04:41.
never admitted responsibility and the families have accepted they may | :04:42. | :04:48.
never know what really happened. I don't seek justice or revenge. I'd | :04:49. | :04:56.
sooner not let that part control my life. I'd sooner look forward. | :04:57. | :05:02.
Although it happened for decades ago, it is still fresh in the minds | :05:03. | :05:10.
of those who attended today. Now, the weather. | :05:11. | :05:16.
After today's sunshine, more cloudy tomorrow. But it will be mostly dry | :05:17. | :05:23.
until tomorrow evening but fairly breezy. There will be the odd shower | :05:24. | :05:31.
pushing through tonight but it looks mostly dry overnight. We will see | :05:32. | :05:36.
low patchy cloud towards the end of the night. There shouldn't be many | :05:37. | :05:44.
problems with frost. Tomorrow, a bit of a grey start to the working week | :05:45. | :05:47.
and we will keep the clouds tomorrow. Cloudy but largely dry | :05:48. | :05:55.
overall. Tomorrow evening we will see patchy rain creeping in from the | :05:56. | :06:00.
west. Looking further ahead, some showers on Tuesday to stop wet and | :06:01. | :06:05.
windy on Wednesday. We'll be back at 10:15pm. | :06:06. | :06:15.
on the way. Focused tomorrow across western areas. In the east, again, | :06:16. | :06:21.
generally dry and breezy. The breezes picking up again overnight, | :06:22. | :06:25.
the wind is getting lively again around western coasts and with | :06:26. | :06:29.
further high tides, the ongoing risk of coastal flooding. Though strong | :06:30. | :06:32.
winds bringing the rain back to Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, apart | :06:33. | :06:36.
from a few showers, a dry night and mainly frost free. A wet start | :06:37. | :06:40.
across Northern Ireland, the rain pepping up across Pembrokeshire | :06:41. | :06:41.
Devon | :06:42. | :06:42. |
