Good afternoon. A consultathon starts today on plans to knock down

Wakefield's market hall and replace it with a cinema complex. It cost ?3

million to build just six ydars ago, but the council says footfall is

low. Dave Edwards has been `t the market for us this morning. Saturday

at the market and traders are doing their best to make it busindss as

usual. This market hall onlx opened a few years ago and it faces

closure. The council says it does not get enough footfall. It is

literally going to go ahead? All this is going to be taken away from

us. We would not be here if it was not making money. I feel as if I am

in limbo at the moment. The consultation will run from today

until the end of April. The council says it will make an informdd

decision. These stallholders do not want to go anywhere else.

One person's been airlifted to hospital this morning following an

accident in South Yorkshire. Wentworth Road in Swinton w`s closed

by police while the emergency service dealt with the incident

It's thought a car overturndd after colliding with a tree. Two people

were trapped in the vehicle. The Air Ambulance transported one of the

casualties to hospital. Church leaders in Yorkshire have

voted overwhelmingly in favour of allowing women to become bishops.

The Diocese of Ripon and Ledds Synod met Harrogate this morning. Only one

person voted against the motion to allow women to become bishops. If

the legislation is passed at the General Synod, the first felale

bishops could be in post by the end of the year.

Leeds Rhinos kept up their winning start by beating the Catalan Dragons

40`12 in Perpignan. Leeds trailed 6`0 after the opening 20 minutes,

but hit back with three trids to lead 18`6 at half`time. Joel Moon,

Brett Delaney and Tom Briscoe all went over, before early second`half

tries for Carl Ablett and Rxan Hall put the Rhinos in control.

It was a good night for Castleford as well. They continued thehr

winning streak with a 10`3 win over Hull KR. But the Huddersfield Giants

lost to Widnes 22`20. A bad result for them having been 20`12 tp at one

stage. A major exhibition of royal

portraits has opened at a stately home in North Yorkshire. Thd art has

been loaned to Beningbrough Hall from the National Portrait Gallery.

It includes works by Mario Testino and Andy Warhol and features the

Queen, Prince William and H`rry and baby Prince George. The exhhbition

runs until November. Not a bad day out there.

Today is the first day of meteorological spring. We h`ve some

great and that `` sunny spells and the possibility of a few showers

further east. The winds are fairly light from the south`west.

Overnight, some clear spells and temperatures falling away qtickly.

This band of rain were spre`ding from the west and that could bring

some hill snow for a time. With that rain overnight, watch out for ice

first thing on Sunday morning. Lots of cloud turning wet and windy
