Good evening from a special edition That's all from the | :00:00. | :00:00.
Good evening from a special edition of Look North here in Sheffield ` as | :00:07. | :00:11.
we welcome home Harry and Amy from their intrepid tandem tour. They've | :00:12. | :00:17.
attracted a huge crowd ` and a bucket load of cash for Sport | :00:18. | :00:28.
Relief. They're only minutes away now ` we | :00:29. | :00:32.
can just see them coming in ` there they are now, flanked by police | :00:33. | :00:42.
outriders, cyclists convoy. 250 miles, eight gruelling days, but | :00:43. | :00:54.
pain and joy. Also tonight: Unacceptable waiting | :00:55. | :01:00.
times ` the growing row over the future of A and E services at two of | :01:01. | :01:03.
our hospitals. The cost of hosting the Yorkshire | :01:04. | :01:06.
Grand Depart revealed to be ?2 million more than originally | :01:07. | :01:17.
thought. And it is the first weekend of | :01:18. | :01:19.
spring. Join me for the forecast. Well Yorkshire's leg of the Tour de | :01:20. | :01:42.
France ends here in Sheffield ` and in a few moments Harry and Amy will | :01:43. | :01:46.
end their Tandem Tour de Yorkshire, right here in the English Institute | :01:47. | :01:51.
of Sport. They're just minutes away ` getting | :01:52. | :02:02.
a good reception out there. It is all in a good cause. And hopefully | :02:03. | :02:12.
we'll have their final tally before the end of the programme. We | :02:13. | :02:19.
estimate it could be in excess of ?80,000. We're going to give them a | :02:20. | :02:24.
good reception aren't we? Let's remind ourselves of the scale | :02:25. | :02:30.
of this challenge. It was all smiles when they started in Leeds eight | :02:31. | :02:36.
long days ago. They conquered Buttertubs Pass while cycling | :02:37. | :02:38.
through our beautiful and very hilly Yorkshire Dales into Harrogate and | :02:39. | :02:46.
York. There were those killer climbs ` Cragg Vale and Holme Moss. And | :02:47. | :02:54.
today at the end of 250 miles they are here in Sheffield. What did the | :02:55. | :02:58.
route throw at them on their final day? Ian White reports. | :02:59. | :03:13.
Yesterday at horrendous climb. The weather brought tears to the eyes. | :03:14. | :03:24.
The wind is wild. But the wind is not going to stop them today. | :03:25. | :03:30.
Keeping them safe week, a team of motorbike outriders. It has been | :03:31. | :03:35.
good fun. The motorists have been fantastic. He is not well. He has | :03:36. | :03:51.
got pain in his legs. He has got a cold. The one thing that has kept | :03:52. | :04:01.
Harry and Amy going is the support from the viewers. | :04:02. | :04:26.
had to do our bit. It has been terrible for them. | :04:27. | :04:46.
We are so proud. With the end of the tandem to getting closer there was | :04:47. | :04:55.
more encouragement. We are nearly beat but not quite. My car is | :04:56. | :05:03.
struggling, imagine what their legs are doing. There is a handrail here | :05:04. | :05:11.
for a reason. It is tough. The countdown begins. Here they | :05:12. | :06:05.
come. They will feel a great sense of relief as they pass the finish | :06:06. | :06:14.
line. They are looking pretty good to me. They are all smiles as they | :06:15. | :06:24.
arrive at the finishing line. Welcome home. How do you feel? | :06:25. | :06:32.
Fantastic. Amazing eight days. Something I never thought I would | :06:33. | :06:38.
achieve. He is, Lowes, exhilaration, the lot. | :06:39. | :06:47.
I will be sad to not see it tomorrow. It has been brilliant. We | :06:48. | :06:56.
have had our real giggle. The crowds have been incredible. | :06:57. | :07:04.
I have got two very special people to introduce you to. | :07:05. | :07:18.
This is Harry. This is Amy. A yellow Jersey. Fantastic. | :07:19. | :07:28.
I bet you cannot wait to get back on a bike. The good news is you are | :07:29. | :07:34.
going back to Leeds on it. Absolutely no way. | :07:35. | :07:42.
We will come back to you in a few moments time. | :07:43. | :07:48.
There is still time for people to donate. | :07:49. | :08:26.
will come back when Harry and Amy have cot their breath. `` have | :08:27. | :08:32.
regained their breath. services at hospitals in Halifax and | :08:33. | :08:52.
Huddersfield has intensified as NHS figures reveal how long some people | :08:53. | :08:57.
are waiting to be seen. Since last November over 2,000 patients have | :08:58. | :09:00.
waited longer than the target time of four hours. Campaigners say it | :09:01. | :09:04.
proves that the area still needs two A units, while the local NHS say | :09:05. | :09:07.
it justifies the reason for considering change. Our health | :09:08. | :09:15.
correspondent Jamie Coulson reports. Her mother feels she had to wait too | :09:16. | :09:23.
long to be seen. I wanted them to put it right. 95% of patients should | :09:24. | :09:32.
be seen within four hours. Latest figures show the hospital trust | :09:33. | :09:38.
responsible has struggled at times over the winter. Between the 10th of | :09:39. | :09:46.
November and the 9th of March this hospital saw over 46,000 patients. | :09:47. | :09:52.
More than 2000 had to wait for more than four hours. 738 patients had to | :09:53. | :10:03.
wait between four hours and 12 hours for a bed. | :10:04. | :10:06.
These figures have been seized upon by campaigners. In one scenario the | :10:07. | :10:14.
Accident and Emergency department could be scaled back. Those | :10:15. | :10:24.
departments are overcapacity now. We need investment. The two hospitals | :10:25. | :10:33.
are five miles apart. They both offer full Accident and Emergency | :10:34. | :10:40.
departments. The preferred option of the trust would see complex clear | :10:41. | :10:51.
removed to Huddersfield. We are changing the way services are | :10:52. | :10:56.
provided. If we get this service correct people will visit hospital | :10:57. | :11:02.
less. People will have services closer to home. | :11:03. | :11:07.
Many families will now watch developments keenly. | :11:08. | :11:14.
And there's more on this story on this week's Sunday Politics ` at 11 | :11:15. | :11:18.
o'clock on BBC One. The cost to Yorkshire of putting on | :11:19. | :11:22.
the Tour de France this summer has been underestimated by over ?2 | :11:23. | :11:28.
million. A new report shows that the company which will be supplying | :11:29. | :11:31.
services underestimated the scale of the event. Our Tour de France | :11:32. | :11:34.
Correspondent Matt Slater joins us now. Matt ` how embarrassing is this | :11:35. | :11:38.
with just over a hundred days to go till the Tour starts here? | :11:39. | :11:46.
It is a bit embarrassing as opposed to deeply worrying. The organisers | :11:47. | :11:53.
of the Grand Depart wanted to talk about their latest update. They say | :11:54. | :11:57.
that broadly speaking they are on track. That we have ended up talking | :11:58. | :12:03.
about this internal report into how the main supplier of the barriers | :12:04. | :12:11.
and signs has been chosen because the winning bid is for 4.5 million | :12:12. | :12:17.
pounds, more than double the original estimate. This internal | :12:18. | :12:21.
report suggests that the estimate was and realistically low. That is | :12:22. | :12:28.
embarrassing. It has led to questions. Questions that I put to | :12:29. | :12:33.
the chairman of the company that runs the Grand Depart. Those who | :12:34. | :12:40.
prepared the original budget could be forgiven for any and provision | :12:41. | :12:44.
that have made. We are of the opinion that the money we have | :12:45. | :12:48.
available to as provided by the local authority, transport for | :12:49. | :12:57.
London, if properly managed will more than covered the job that we | :12:58. | :13:02.
have been asked to do. Where are we going to get the money from? | :13:03. | :13:08.
I suppose he has seen steady numbers from when he was in charge of | :13:09. | :13:14.
building Wembley. Savings have been found elsewhere in the budget. There | :13:15. | :13:19.
are some authorities that have not been asked for money yet. There is a | :13:20. | :13:25.
contingency fund. The message is, do not panic. | :13:26. | :13:30.
The owner and manager of a Todmorden slaughterhouse have been charged | :13:31. | :13:33.
with breaching laws governing the traceability of horse meat. The | :13:34. | :13:36.
charges against Peter Boddy, seen here in a BBC documentary, and David | :13:37. | :13:39.
Moss follow a joint investigation by the Food Standards Agency, Welsh | :13:40. | :13:45.
police and Calderdale Council. Mr Boddy and Mr Moss are due before | :13:46. | :13:48.
magistrates in Westminster on the 14th of April. It is not being | :13:49. | :13:53.
alleged that the horse meat was being sold as another meat. | :13:54. | :13:58.
A couple from Selby are calling for a formal apology and improved | :13:59. | :14:00.
training for midwives after their baby was delivered stillborn. Debbie | :14:01. | :14:05.
Horner treasures the prints from her daughter. They're all she has after | :14:06. | :14:10.
a series of mistakes during labour at St James' hospital in Leeds. The | :14:11. | :14:18.
Leeds Hospitals Trust admits midwives failed to record the baby's | :14:19. | :14:22.
abnormal heart rate before it was too late. It is horrendous. It is a | :14:23. | :14:28.
nightmare. It never goes away. It will never get any better. We just | :14:29. | :14:36.
want to stop it happening to somebody else. | :14:37. | :14:42.
An RAF airman from Bradford who helped a helicopter to land while it | :14:43. | :14:46.
was being shot at in Afghanistan has been recognised for his bravery. | :14:47. | :14:49.
Despite being badly injured, Master Aircrew Bob Sunderland returned fire | :14:50. | :14:52.
and helped the captain to land safely. He's been mentioned in | :14:53. | :14:56.
dispatches and honoured at a ceremony in London. We were shot at | :14:57. | :15:04.
from various positions. There was not much time to think about what | :15:05. | :15:10.
happened to me. It was all about keeping the troops safe and the | :15:11. | :15:16.
aircraft. A hoard of jewellery which was | :15:17. | :15:19.
seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act has been sold in Sheffield this | :15:20. | :15:24.
afternoon. The jewellery was taken from a Doncaster man who was | :15:25. | :15:27.
convicted of tax evasion offences. It was deemed to be an asset that | :15:28. | :15:31.
should be sold, in order to pay back some of the ?26 million it's | :15:32. | :15:34.
estimated that he and his associates made from their crimes. The hoard | :15:35. | :15:38.
eventually went for a total of ?182,000. | :15:39. | :15:42.
Well, let's go back to the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, | :15:43. | :15:46.
where Harry and Amy have received an amazing reception after completing | :15:47. | :15:49.
their Tour de Tandem, all 250 miles of Yorkshire's Tour de France route. | :15:50. | :15:52.
And Phil, there's quite a party going on there. | :15:53. | :16:02.
As you can see the crowds once again have turned out in Sheffield. Here | :16:03. | :16:11.
are the stars of the show. Harry and Amy. This is man. Why did you come | :16:12. | :16:23.
down tonight? Just a show support. What do you make of this? Hard work. | :16:24. | :16:34.
Fantastic. You are here as well. Why did you come along? Just to watch | :16:35. | :16:46.
them finish. Why have you come along tonight? We have been following them | :16:47. | :16:55.
all day. We have come down to support them tonight. Would you | :16:56. | :17:01.
attempt anything like this yourself? Absolutely not. Thank you for | :17:02. | :17:11.
talking to us. Let us talk to the stars of the show. | :17:12. | :17:25.
Your families have given you all the support. Without them you would have | :17:26. | :17:34.
struggled. To experience what we have gone through this week, you | :17:35. | :17:40.
could not have done it without support. It is the people here and | :17:41. | :17:45.
the people on the route to have kept us going when it got really bad. You | :17:46. | :17:57.
were sobbing your eyes out. Well you let him out any more? The house has | :17:58. | :18:05.
been really tidy. I just want to know ahead of time what he is | :18:06. | :18:17.
planning. Was this a big sacrifice for you? Yes. Thank you for your | :18:18. | :18:31.
support. It has been an epic challenge. | :18:32. | :18:49.
You are a rugby legend. This was inspired by the Tour de France. | :18:50. | :19:07.
We are covering over 1000 miles. You are professional cyclists. | :19:08. | :19:18.
To do that on a tandem, that is fantastic. Thank you for coming | :19:19. | :19:25.
down. All of the money raised goes to Sport Relief. | :19:26. | :19:38.
Here they are trying to find out how far they can get. | :19:39. | :19:51.
That gets us 274 miles so far. Almost into Holland. | :19:52. | :20:05.
This man will settle for just one mile. He has Parkinson's disease. | :20:06. | :20:13.
His dog has been taking him out for a run in preparation. | :20:14. | :20:20.
Have you ever done a full mile? Only at school. | :20:21. | :20:46.
that run. `` ladies that lunch and mothers that run. Just coming out a | :20:47. | :20:55.
couple of times a week and getting that feel`good factor, everybody | :20:56. | :20:58.
says it you go home feeling so much better. | :20:59. | :21:12.
This building society is sponsoring the event. | :21:13. | :21:24.
Amy and Harry have survived as the memorable moments. Let us look back | :21:25. | :21:28.
at some of those moments. They are having a romantic weekend. | :21:29. | :22:06.
You have just spoiled it. That view has made all the pain worth it. | :22:07. | :22:11.
I feel all right. I am glad you do. `` the emotion that has gone into | :22:12. | :24:47.
this. You can write twice. `` you cried twice. Having the crowds | :24:48. | :24:56.
cheering you on, it all got a bit much for me. I have had some | :24:57. | :25:06.
physiotherapy. The main problem has been my chest. Amy said I should be | :25:07. | :25:22.
put down. Would you do it again? Ask the next week. I am not going to do | :25:23. | :25:38.
it again. Well done. It will be nice to see | :25:39. | :25:43.
you in the studio next week. you in the | :25:44. | :25:50.
It is spelling, that there is for Ross to come this weekend. There | :25:51. | :25:57.
will be a number of showers. By the end of tonight there could be a | :25:58. | :26:02.
covering of snow. Showers moving in from the West. The showers will be | :26:03. | :26:17.
heavy and prolonged. Temperature is quite close to freezing. There is a | :26:18. | :26:26.
warning for ice in Western areas. Tomorrow, a mixture of sunny spells | :26:27. | :26:33.
and scattered showers. The showers will turn heavier. There will be a | :26:34. | :26:42.
risk of heel and sleet. A typical match picture. Clear or sunny spells | :26:43. | :26:50.
and scattered showers. The showers on Sunday gradually fizzling out. As | :26:51. | :27:03.
sharp frost on Sunday night. Monday will be dry with sunshine. Some | :27:04. | :27:22.
uncertainty on Tuesday. Amy and Harry are going to go into | :27:23. | :27:32.
the crowds now and shake hands. It has been the most memorable week for | :27:33. | :27:39.
all of us here. It will be something that we will remember for many years | :27:40. | :27:42. |
