Good evening from Look North: A former school governor has denied

newspaper claims that he's trying to introduce hardline Muslim principles

into some of Bradford's schools. Faisal Khan was sacked as a governor

at Laisterdyke College, along with the rest of the board, last month.

It comes as investigations continue into reports a number of schools in

Birmingham have been taken over by extremists. With more, here's Dave

Edwards. Could the so called Trojan Horse be

on its way toll Yorkshire? `` to Yorkshire? Claims of a plot to

infiltrate schools and run them with hardline Muslim principles are being

investigated in Birmingham. Today it's reported a man from Bradford is

trying to do the same thing here. That is totally untrue. What I'm

interested in, is raising standards. This is Laisterdyke College, a

secondary school in Bradford with about 1,000 students and a large

Muslim population. It was here that the entire board of governors was

sacked last month. One of those governor was Faisal Khan but he says

all they were doing was holding staff to account and Muslim

governors are being targeted unfairly. The message is, if you are

a Muslim you are not welcome on the governing body. I think it sends out

a poor message. Having spoken to governors out there, already

governors are saying what is the point being on a governing body

because if we follow the rules we are still subject to this kind of

harassment and behaviour. Local MP David Ward says there is a problem

with some people pursuing an Islamic agenda within schools but only a

small minority. There is clearly a view that they would like the

schools to be more faith schools. I don't think that is a wide spread

view and I think it is one, really, that the public at large, the Muslim

community, as a whole, are not in favour of. Laisterdyke College says

Ofsted identified an urgent need for improvements in governance and

that's why the governors were sacked. Faisal Khan is calling for

an investigation. Prayers have been held across West

Yorkshire for the teacher who was killed at a school in Leeds on

Monday. The Catholic diocese of Leeds wrote to about 90 churches

asking them to hold the special prayers during mass. Ann Maguire

died from multiple stab wounds. A 15`year`old boy is in custody

charged with her murder. A 36`year`old man's been arrested

following a high`profile incident at Rotherham Town Hall yesterday. The

building was sealed off by police for most of the day, after reports a

man with a hammer had barricaded himself inside. After almost ten

hours of negotiations, the man eventually left by his own accord at

around 7.30pm. He's being questioned on suspicion of burglary.

Yorkshire Water say they'll appeal a decision not to let them rebuild an

historic reservoir spillway near Marsden. The company was refused

planning permission to carry out building work on the Butterley

spillway in January. Campaigners had argued that proposals to replace

stonework with concrete would destroy the Victorian structure. But

Yorkshire Water says its changes are needed for safety reasons.

On to football and FC Halifax Town have failed in their bid to get into

the Football League. Around 500 fans of the Shaymen travelled to

Cambridge hoping their team could make the Skrill Premier play`off

final at Wembley. But they lost 2`0 in the second leg tie for an

aggregate defeat of 2`1. Let's hope we can build on from

this. We have had a fantastic season. We never expected this. We

are really happy to get this far. I thought today we played fantastic

but it wasn't to be. There is nowt we can do about it. If we have lost

we have lost. We are all proud of them. My players kept going and

pushed up until the 96th minute and didn't give up. That has been a

trademark of this season and what I would expect for a team representing

Halifax. Newly`crowned League Two champions Chesterfield will

celebrate with a victory parade through the town. There were

jubilant scenes on the pitch yesterday after the Spireites beat

Fleetwood 2`1. The players will arrive at Chesterfield Town Hall at

6.30 on 12th May, followed by a civic reception.
