Good evening from Look North: A That is it from us,

:00:00.:00:15.

Good evening from Look North: A former school governor has denied

:00:16.:00:18.

newspaper claims that he's trying to introduce hardline Muslim principles

:00:19.:00:20.

into some of Bradford's schools. Faisal Khan was sacked as a governor

:00:21.:00:24.

at Laisterdyke College, along with the rest of the board, last month.

:00:25.:00:27.

It comes as investigations continue into reports a number of schools in

:00:28.:00:30.

Birmingham have been taken over by extremists. With more, here's Dave

:00:31.:00:34.

Edwards. Could the so called Trojan Horse be

:00:35.:00:43.

on its way toll Yorkshire? `` to Yorkshire? Claims of a plot to

:00:44.:00:47.

infiltrate schools and run them with hardline Muslim principles are being

:00:48.:00:50.

investigated in Birmingham. Today it's reported a man from Bradford is

:00:51.:00:53.

trying to do the same thing here. That is totally untrue. What I'm

:00:54.:00:58.

interested in, is raising standards. This is Laisterdyke College, a

:00:59.:01:01.

secondary school in Bradford with about 1,000 students and a large

:01:02.:01:07.

Muslim population. It was here that the entire board of governors was

:01:08.:01:13.

sacked last month. One of those governor was Faisal Khan but he says

:01:14.:01:16.

all they were doing was holding staff to account and Muslim

:01:17.:01:19.

governors are being targeted unfairly. The message is, if you are

:01:20.:01:24.

a Muslim you are not welcome on the governing body. I think it sends out

:01:25.:01:33.

a poor message. Having spoken to governors out there, already

:01:34.:01:35.

governors are saying what is the point being on a governing body

:01:36.:01:39.

because if we follow the rules we are still subject to this kind of

:01:40.:01:43.

harassment and behaviour. Local MP David Ward says there is a problem

:01:44.:01:47.

with some people pursuing an Islamic agenda within schools but only a

:01:48.:01:51.

small minority. There is clearly a view that they would like the

:01:52.:02:00.

schools to be more faith schools. I don't think that is a wide spread

:02:01.:02:04.

view and I think it is one, really, that the public at large, the Muslim

:02:05.:02:08.

community, as a whole, are not in favour of. Laisterdyke College says

:02:09.:02:11.

Ofsted identified an urgent need for improvements in governance and

:02:12.:02:13.

that's why the governors were sacked. Faisal Khan is calling for

:02:14.:02:19.

an investigation. Prayers have been held across West

:02:20.:02:22.

Yorkshire for the teacher who was killed at a school in Leeds on

:02:23.:02:27.

Monday. The Catholic diocese of Leeds wrote to about 90 churches

:02:28.:02:30.

asking them to hold the special prayers during mass. Ann Maguire

:02:31.:02:33.

died from multiple stab wounds. A 15`year`old boy is in custody

:02:34.:02:39.

charged with her murder. A 36`year`old man's been arrested

:02:40.:02:42.

following a high`profile incident at Rotherham Town Hall yesterday. The

:02:43.:02:45.

building was sealed off by police for most of the day, after reports a

:02:46.:02:49.

man with a hammer had barricaded himself inside. After almost ten

:02:50.:02:52.

hours of negotiations, the man eventually left by his own accord at

:02:53.:02:55.

around 7.30pm. He's being questioned on suspicion of burglary.

:02:56.:03:03.

Yorkshire Water say they'll appeal a decision not to let them rebuild an

:03:04.:03:06.

historic reservoir spillway near Marsden. The company was refused

:03:07.:03:09.

planning permission to carry out building work on the Butterley

:03:10.:03:13.

spillway in January. Campaigners had argued that proposals to replace

:03:14.:03:15.

stonework with concrete would destroy the Victorian structure. But

:03:16.:03:20.

Yorkshire Water says its changes are needed for safety reasons.

:03:21.:03:27.

On to football and FC Halifax Town have failed in their bid to get into

:03:28.:03:31.

the Football League. Around 500 fans of the Shaymen travelled to

:03:32.:03:34.

Cambridge hoping their team could make the Skrill Premier play`off

:03:35.:03:37.

final at Wembley. But they lost 2`0 in the second leg tie for an

:03:38.:03:44.

aggregate defeat of 2`1. Let's hope we can build on from

:03:45.:03:47.

this. We have had a fantastic season. We never expected this. We

:03:48.:03:51.

are really happy to get this far. I thought today we played fantastic

:03:52.:03:57.

but it wasn't to be. There is nowt we can do about it. If we have lost

:03:58.:04:01.

we have lost. We are all proud of them. My players kept going and

:04:02.:04:07.

pushed up until the 96th minute and didn't give up. That has been a

:04:08.:04:11.

trademark of this season and what I would expect for a team representing

:04:12.:04:19.

Halifax. Newly`crowned League Two champions Chesterfield will

:04:20.:04:21.

celebrate with a victory parade through the town. There were

:04:22.:04:26.

jubilant scenes on the pitch yesterday after the Spireites beat

:04:27.:04:29.

Fleetwood 2`1. The players will arrive at Chesterfield Town Hall at

:04:30.:04:32.

6.30 on 12th May, followed by a civic reception.

:04:33.:04:35.

Look at this, unbelievable. Unbelievable. At bit nervy towards

:04:36.:04:39.

the start of the game. We pulled through. We are a very good team, as

:04:40.:04:43.

you can see. We have come from behind. Confidence is massive and we

:04:44.:04:48.

have come back and won the league. Cricket now and Yorkshire have made

:04:49.:04:52.

299`3 in the first innings of their County Championship match at Durham.

:04:53.:04:55.

The Tykes won the toss. Adam Lyth made a century and Kane Williamson

:04:56.:05:01.

was out for 97. Now let's see what the weather has in store. Any more

:05:02.:05:07.

sunshine? #12k3w4r disappointingly cloudy today. I'm hopeful it will be

:05:08.:05:10.

brighter tomorrow through the morning. It will also be the warmest

:05:11.:05:14.

day of the bank holiday weekend. Dry out there at the moment. We will see

:05:15.:05:20.

the cloud break, clear spells from the south. Dry and fine for the rest

:05:21.:05:25.

of the night. A light breeze and temperatures back to 7 or 8.

:05:26.:05:28.

Tomorrow the best of the sunshine will be through the morning. Then we

:05:29.:05:32.

will see the sunshine turning hazy by midday. Through the afternoon

:05:33.:05:35.

thicker cloud spreading from the west. By the end of tomorrow,

:05:36.:05:39.

probably fairly overcast but the rain will stay to the west of us

:05:40.:05:42.

until tomorrow evening. It will be the warmest day. Temperatures

:05:43.:05:50.

getting up to around 17 `` 16 or 17. The rest of the week, sunshine and

:05:51.:05:54.

showers. Temperatures about average. Breezy and frost`free. Have a lovely

:05:55.:05:56.

evening, goodbye . Good evening. Today we have had the

:05:57.:06:13.

sunniest skies in the South whereas in the north it has been quite

:06:14.:06:16.

cloudy. Tomorrow, we switch things around. In the east we will have

:06:17.:06:22.

warm, hazy sunshine. In the west we will have the biggest cloud.

:06:23.:06:27.

Tonight, there will be some rain across parts of Scotland. The rain

:06:28.:06:30.

easing across Northern Ireland. For many will be a dry night. For many

:06:31.:06:35.

across the south it will be cold. Maybe not quite as cold as last

:06:36.:06:44.

night. We should start with quite a bit of sunshine across central and

:06:45.:06:47.

eastern areas. The sunshine will turn quite hazy of the cloud spills

:06:48.:06:53.

in from the west. The wind is also starting to pick up and we will see

:06:54.:06:59.

rain. For Northern Ireland, the rain spreading across a good part

:07:00.:07:01.
