indecently assaulted one of his daughter's friends | :00:00. | :00:00.
Investigators believe five members of the same family died | :00:00. | :00:12.
because a faulty charging device was left plugged in. | :00:13. | :00:16.
We'll hear how similar fires could be prevented in future. | :00:17. | :00:18.
Also tonight, the Bronte sisters were born there ` | :00:19. | :00:23.
soon you'll be able to have a look round inside their first home. | :00:24. | :00:30.
And join me in Chesterfield where the town is out in force to | :00:31. | :00:39.
celebrate. Further heavy showers expected in the short term. Some | :00:40. | :00:43.
good news from midweek onwards. Join me for the latest. | :00:44. | :00:52.
An investigation into a house fire in Sheffield which killed five | :00:53. | :00:59.
members of the same family, has concluded it was likely to have | :01:00. | :01:02.
been caused by an electrical fault, probably a faulty charging device. | :01:03. | :01:05.
It's now a fortnight since the blaze broke out in the living room of the | :01:06. | :01:09.
Since then, the police and fire service have been working | :01:10. | :01:14.
It was described by the family as a tragedy beyond imagination. It is | :01:15. | :01:25.
now exactly two weeks since fire ripped through this terraced house, | :01:26. | :01:30.
killing three generations of the same family, including two young | :01:31. | :01:37.
brothers, their baby sister, grandmother and aunt. Since then, | :01:38. | :01:43.
South Yorkshire police and the fire service have been carrying out a | :01:44. | :01:46.
detailed investigation to find out how it started. Today they told us | :01:47. | :01:52.
the most likely cause was an electrical fault involving a | :01:53. | :01:56.
charger. What we would like to get across to the members of the public | :01:57. | :01:59.
is if you are going to have a charging device, follow the | :02:00. | :02:06.
manufacturer's instructions and try to avoid leaving appliances on | :02:07. | :02:13.
charged overnight. It is not the first time the fire service have | :02:14. | :02:18.
warned of leaving chargers plugged in. Last year they began a campaign | :02:19. | :02:28.
after fire gutted a house. Last week, funerals were held for the | :02:29. | :02:35.
victims of the Wake Road fire. The family plays the police, paramedics | :02:36. | :02:39.
and fire service for all they did that day. They also paid tribute to | :02:40. | :02:46.
Shabbina Begum, who died after re`entering the house to try to save | :02:47. | :02:50.
her grandchildren. Inquests will be held at a later date. | :02:51. | :02:53.
Kate Bradbrook joins us now from Sheffield. | :02:54. | :03:01.
Kate, it is shocking that a charger could create so much tragedy. What | :03:02. | :03:10.
kind of charger was it? Fire investigators here say the fire was | :03:11. | :03:14.
so intense, it caused so much damage, which is why it has taken so | :03:15. | :03:19.
long to establish a cause. We know it was some kind of electrical | :03:20. | :03:22.
charging device. We all have them at home. No more details on that as | :03:23. | :03:29.
yet. Several messages have come out today from the fire service. One is | :03:30. | :03:34.
to make sure that we're not charging them for any longer than stated. | :03:35. | :03:38.
Another message is to make sure that we're using the charger that with | :03:39. | :03:43.
the device. The one that was bought with it, and not an imitation. The | :03:44. | :03:47.
third messages to make sure that everybody in the house knows to do | :03:48. | :03:53.
if the smoke alarm goes off, knows a safe route out of the house. And to | :03:54. | :03:58.
make sure the smoke alarm is working. | :03:59. | :04:01.
Appeals for calm in Bradford ` we investigate claims that far | :04:02. | :04:05.
right activists targeted mosques in the city. | :04:06. | :04:12.
Police investigating a hit and run collision in Sheffield | :04:13. | :04:15.
which killed a 14`year`old girl, have said it's just a matter of | :04:16. | :04:19.
Jasmyn Chan died and her 12`year`old friend was | :04:20. | :04:23.
seriously injured in the incident on Normanton Hill in the Intake area | :04:24. | :04:26.
By the side of a road in Sheffield, flowers and toys. Witness to a young | :04:27. | :04:46.
life cut short. Jasmyn Chan was struck by a small dark`coloured | :04:47. | :04:56.
car. There are reports... Normanton Hill is a fast and busy road. The | :04:57. | :05:01.
accident happened at a foot crossing on the way to a local park. The | :05:02. | :05:07.
police have thanked everybody who has come forward with information | :05:08. | :05:10.
about the accident, saying it is just a matter of time before they | :05:11. | :05:16.
trace the car and the driver. The accident investigation marks cover | :05:17. | :05:19.
some distance. They are not just confined to the road. One neighbour | :05:20. | :05:23.
said she believed drivers regularly travel to fast. It should not have | :05:24. | :05:29.
took this but obviously something has got to be done. They pick up | :05:30. | :05:35.
speed with no idea that there is a concealed entrance, which is no | :05:36. | :05:39.
excuse. If they were giving to the restrictions, that's fine. My main | :05:40. | :05:46.
concern is obviously that... That the driver needs to come forward. | :05:47. | :05:54.
Please give yourself up. At Jasmine's school today, lessons as | :05:55. | :05:57.
normal, but also tribute and memories. Everybody will have a | :05:58. | :06:02.
memory of her. Not everybody wants to cry, not everybody wants to put | :06:03. | :06:08.
flours into the courtyard, some people want to be quiet. Today is | :06:09. | :06:12.
about being sensitive to how people want to do with their grief and | :06:13. | :06:17.
their sense of loss. Whatever the reasons why they didn't stop at the | :06:18. | :06:20.
time, those are not relevant and a more. The facts are that a | :06:21. | :06:26.
14`year`old girl has died. Her family, her friends are absolutely | :06:27. | :06:33.
devastated. We need for that person to come forward and deal with the | :06:34. | :06:37.
matter. What's done is done. The best we can do now is give semantics | :06:38. | :06:41.
to the family and bring the matter to a proper conclusion. Some of | :06:42. | :06:45.
Jasmine's friends gathered quietly to reflect this afternoon. One life | :06:46. | :06:49.
has been lost, dozens more are changed forever. | :06:50. | :06:52.
For many of Yorkshire's rural communities, they're a lifeline. | :06:53. | :06:55.
But over the years the number of village post offices has been | :06:56. | :06:58.
Postmasters say they're reaching crisis point, with fewer customers | :06:59. | :07:03.
and revenue from the sales of stamps and tax discs dwindling. | :07:04. | :07:06.
They were meeting for a national conference in Harrogate today, | :07:07. | :07:09.
and have called on the Government to do much more to help them. | :07:10. | :07:13.
Nigel has run this post office in Burrowbridge for 11 years. He has | :07:14. | :07:28.
paid that Mackie is paid less than 2p per stamp and relies on a | :07:29. | :07:31.
sidelining greetings cards to pay his wages. Today he was among this | :07:32. | :07:36.
crowd of 200 postmasters at a national conference in Harrogate. | :07:37. | :07:41.
The message: We are in crisis and need government help. Postmasters | :07:42. | :07:45.
say they have lost a lot of government business over the past | :07:46. | :07:50.
few years. For example, you can no longer pick up your benefit payments | :07:51. | :07:54.
at the post office, nor can you take at National savings. You have not | :07:55. | :08:00.
been able to buy a TV licence over the counter for a number of years. | :08:01. | :08:07.
As for car tax, and postmasters have recently had the money they get paid | :08:08. | :08:12.
per disc cut in half. Sealine may lose that as well. Many services are | :08:13. | :08:18.
still available, but Nigel says it is not enough. Takes a lot of 2p | :08:19. | :08:24.
is, for pensioners and temperance is to make a living. We have had | :08:25. | :08:30.
promises from the Government. We want to work, give us the work and | :08:31. | :08:34.
we will do it. Today's conference heard new work was not forthcoming. | :08:35. | :08:39.
The franchise is not as profitable as it was. Business people look at | :08:40. | :08:48.
the post office now and maybe it is not as attractive as it used to be. | :08:49. | :08:53.
The government says taxpayers need to get value for money, and post | :08:54. | :08:59.
offices should diversify. It is investing ?2 million in branches. | :09:00. | :09:03.
They are helping them to branch out so they have much more retail space | :09:04. | :09:06.
and better incomes into the future. We want post offices to remain at | :09:07. | :09:11.
the heart of our communities. Nigel Lawson 's job. His branch is still | :09:12. | :09:17.
busy body says help is needed and it is needed now. `` Nigel loves his | :09:18. | :09:20.
job. A 25`year`old Bradford man must | :09:21. | :09:22.
serve at least 15 years of his life sentence for the murder | :09:23. | :09:24.
of his former girlfriend during a row in a caravan in the Swain House | :09:25. | :09:28.
area of the city last November. The victim, Jade Watson, | :09:29. | :09:32.
who had two children from a previous relationship, was strangled | :09:33. | :09:34.
by James Gray in the caravan A judge said it seemed Ms Watson had | :09:35. | :09:37.
told him she was starting a relationship with another man who | :09:38. | :09:43.
could offer her Anita Ratch ` | :09:44. | :09:45.
who's originally from Hungary ` Now a body's been discovered | :09:46. | :09:50.
in woodland in Bingley. Her death is not being treated | :09:51. | :09:54.
as suspicious. A former Mayor of Scarborough who | :09:55. | :09:58.
died 15 years ago, has been Police say Peter Jaconelli ` | :09:59. | :10:01.
a long`time friend of the disgraced Jimmy Savile ` would have been | :10:02. | :10:06.
questioned over alleged child sex Scarborough Borough Council this | :10:07. | :10:09.
afternoon voted to remove Community leaders | :10:10. | :10:12.
in Bradford say there's been an attempt to deliberately provoke | :10:13. | :10:20.
a violent reaction amongst The allegations follow an incident | :10:21. | :10:23.
at the weekend when a gang of men It looks like any group of friends | :10:24. | :10:41.
posing on a day out. But the rest of the snapshot showed this was a more | :10:42. | :10:46.
sinister trip. They went to two mosques in Bradford and confronted | :10:47. | :10:51.
anybody they could find, producing Bibles. They certainly weren't not | :10:52. | :10:54.
Christian missionaries. In fact, this is who they are. Britain first | :10:55. | :11:02.
is an obscure, tiny far right political party, trying to look like | :11:03. | :11:07.
a paramilitary group. They have posted a video showing activists | :11:08. | :11:11.
training in unarmed combat. They boast they are preparing to defend | :11:12. | :11:14.
the British nation from the rise of Islam. In Bradford, they have a | :11:15. | :11:18.
different view of just what these people were trying to do. Police say | :11:19. | :11:24.
they can take any action. There was they can take any action. There was | :11:25. | :11:27.
no physical assault, no criminal damage. The Council of mosques in | :11:28. | :11:32.
Bradford say this was a deliberate act of provocation, trying to | :11:33. | :11:37.
provoke a violent reaction. Fortunately, nobody did. I think | :11:38. | :11:43.
they want publicity. They want a reaction. They want an aggressive | :11:44. | :11:49.
reaction. I am making an appeal to all young people, and all the | :11:50. | :11:53.
Muslims, to be calm and be peaceful and stay united. We can tackle an | :11:54. | :12:02.
evening if we are united. Next stop, here. The campaign headquarters of a | :12:03. | :12:08.
Labour councillor. They walked in here as volunteers were putting | :12:09. | :12:12.
together campaign literature. There was intimidation and aggression and | :12:13. | :12:16.
they weren't being provocative. But we are better than that. We told | :12:17. | :12:21.
them to leave the building. Police are considering what happened with a | :12:22. | :12:22.
view to see weather they can take view to see weather they can take | :12:23. | :12:32.
any further action. Before seven o'clock, the spy rights | :12:33. | :12:37.
reached new heights. Join me in Chesterfield where the party is just | :12:38. | :12:38.
getting started. It's a little village | :12:39. | :12:50.
on the outskirts of Bradford whose claim to fame is that is | :12:51. | :12:53.
the birthplace of the Brontes. But for years the building | :12:54. | :12:56.
in Thornton where the literary sisters and their brother were born, | :12:57. | :12:59.
has suffered neglect. Most recently the cottage was | :13:00. | :13:01.
used as bedsits before being But now its future has | :13:02. | :13:04.
a more literary bent, as It is a modest house in a regular | :13:05. | :13:17.
street. But this three`bedroom property was the birthplace of three | :13:18. | :13:21.
extra ordinary sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte. The former | :13:22. | :13:30.
Prunty birthplace... It had been rendered as bedsits but a few years | :13:31. | :13:33.
ago it was bought at auction for ?120,000. It has since been | :13:34. | :13:40.
converted into a cafe but some say it should be a museum. It was an | :13:41. | :13:45.
argument that was put to me when we initially purchased the property. I | :13:46. | :13:51.
strongly disagreed. The Brontes need to be made a bit more current. You | :13:52. | :13:56.
only visit a museum once, twice, three times. What we are trying to | :13:57. | :14:01.
do is get people to visit on a regular basis. Ultimately that will | :14:02. | :14:09.
be in the interest of the branches. For market is a cool and trendy | :14:10. | :14:14.
environment keeping with the building's original character. This | :14:15. | :14:19.
is the main attraction. The Bronte sisters were born in front of this | :14:20. | :14:25.
fireplace. Will it attract tourists? I think these places should be kept | :14:26. | :14:29.
as real as they were. A daily next door would be fine but not in the | :14:30. | :14:36.
house itself. `` delicatessen. Would've been better if Bradford | :14:37. | :14:39.
Council had bought it when they had the chance. If the food is good and | :14:40. | :14:43.
it offers something to the committee, I cannot see a major | :14:44. | :14:48.
problem. It is a good thing. Could it be a rival for the Bronte Museum? | :14:49. | :14:53.
I don't think so because the places are so close together that it makes | :14:54. | :14:56.
it more viable for visitors wanting to come here and maybe carry out a | :14:57. | :15:05.
sort of pilgrimage. It is more for them to see. The cafe deli is | :15:06. | :15:10.
expected to be open for business next month. | :15:11. | :15:20.
How wonderful. No rain at booth presence denied? Not as much, at | :15:21. | :15:21.
least! In football, | :15:22. | :15:23.
York City will finally get their League Two play`off push underway | :15:24. | :15:25.
at Bootham Crescent tonight. The first leg tie against | :15:26. | :15:27.
Fleetwood Town was delayed, then called off on Saturday after | :15:28. | :15:30.
heavy rain waterlogged the pitch. The re`arranged fixture kicks`off | :15:31. | :15:33.
at 7.45 and you can listen to full Staying with the play`offs, and in | :15:34. | :15:36.
League One Rotherham travelled to Deepdale to face their semi`final | :15:37. | :15:43.
opponents, Preston, on Saturday. The Millers finished just | :15:44. | :15:45.
a point ahead of their opponents during the regular season, | :15:46. | :15:49.
so many expected a close game. Rotherham entered the play`offs | :15:50. | :16:02.
hoping to achieve their second consecutive promotion. They | :16:03. | :16:05.
dominated the first half and deserved the lead. Alex Revell | :16:06. | :16:09.
picked up possession at the halfway line, chested the ball past his | :16:10. | :16:17.
marker and calmly finished. Preston had struggled to create openings. It | :16:18. | :16:21.
took this spectacular strike from their top scorer, Joel Garner, to | :16:22. | :16:26.
level the match. Rotherham almost retook the lead when Lee's `` | :16:27. | :16:34.
fracking Tim was put through. `` Les Frecklington. The Preston keeper | :16:35. | :16:41.
denied them again in the final minute. If rather win the return leg | :16:42. | :16:46.
on Thursday, they will be in the league one final week on Thursday at | :16:47. | :16:54.
Wembley. There were also championship | :16:55. | :16:57.
play`offs in rugby union at the weekend. They have the home leg next | :16:58. | :17:07.
up. Leeds Carnegie beat London Welsh. They strike came in the 35th | :17:08. | :17:15.
minute. It finished 38`31. Leeds and Rotherham play the return leg on | :17:16. | :17:16.
Saturday. In boxing, congratulations to | :17:17. | :17:21.
the British and European title holder, Kid Galahad, who added | :17:22. | :17:24.
the Commonwealth super`bantamweight belt to his growing collection | :17:25. | :17:27.
after a comfortable win over Galahad was too strong for | :17:28. | :17:30.
Fred Mundraby in his home city of Sheffield on Saturday, | :17:31. | :17:33.
the Ausse didn't come out of his It marks a great eight months | :17:34. | :17:36.
for Galahad, who's won all three belts since picking up the British | :17:37. | :17:41.
title in September last year. I've covered three quarters of the | :17:42. | :17:52.
world in eight months. I'm getting better, I am learning. Hopefully | :17:53. | :17:57.
within the next 1218 months I am fighting for a world title. He | :17:58. | :18:02.
really piled the pressure on. He did well to stand up. | :18:03. | :18:11.
Cycling, and Otley's Lizzie Armistead pulled | :18:12. | :18:13.
out of the Women's Tour before the final stage yesterday ` | :18:14. | :18:16.
she'd been trying to battle on despite struggling with illness. | :18:17. | :18:18.
Meanwhile, in the Giro d'Italia, Rotherham's Ben Swift, seen here in | :18:19. | :18:21.
the blue helmet, was pipped at the finish line by Marcel Kittel for the | :18:22. | :18:25.
It would have been Swift's first Grand Tour stage win, but the German | :18:26. | :18:31.
rider timed his sprint to the line in Dublin to perfection. | :18:32. | :18:35.
In the County Championship, Yorkshire are taking | :18:36. | :18:37.
Yorkshire resumed on 310 for eight, and they've had a good morning. | :18:38. | :18:43.
Liam Plunkett and Steven Patterson are enjoying a strong partnership | :18:44. | :18:46.
They stopped for lunch having reached a score of | :18:47. | :18:54.
While we are set here in the warm and the dry, we are missing a right | :18:55. | :19:07.
good knees up, aren't we? We are. The crowds have certainly turned out | :19:08. | :19:09.
to support Chesterfield. The Spireites are celebrating | :19:10. | :19:12.
their promotion to League One, and being League Two champions with | :19:13. | :19:14.
something of a street party. I am quite sad we have not been | :19:15. | :19:23.
invited. The sun is shining now. It hasn't been all day. Chesterfield | :19:24. | :19:31.
have got promotion into League One as champions of League two. It is | :19:32. | :19:35.
exactly what they wanted at the start of the season. That was nine | :19:36. | :19:40.
days ago. Today it is about giving the people of the town the chance to | :19:41. | :19:44.
thank the team. They have been doing just that. We had a word with some | :19:45. | :19:49.
of them early on. We have done it now. Let's get in division one next | :19:50. | :19:57.
year and get into the championship were We are the champions! It is | :19:58. | :20:05.
brilliant. We have won the lead. This is a fitting tribute to dad, | :20:06. | :20:11.
who passed on last year. I am sure he is pushing every goal of the line | :20:12. | :20:19.
up there. We won it three years ago. For it to come around again so soon, | :20:20. | :20:24.
is really good. It has been a fantastic success in the end. It has | :20:25. | :20:29.
taken a lot to get here. With less than one week to spare, Chesterfield | :20:30. | :20:33.
knew there were going up. On the last day of the season they clinched | :20:34. | :20:36.
the title. One of the most experienced players is Tommy Lee. | :20:37. | :20:42.
You have seen a lot here. What that success mean to you? It is | :20:43. | :20:48.
brilliant. We played some tough teams away from home and got the | :20:49. | :20:52.
results we needed. We have done that all season. Credit to everyone, the | :20:53. | :20:56.
staff, the players, for the way we bounced back. I don't want to put a | :20:57. | :21:03.
damper on it, but you have been up with Chesterfield before and came | :21:04. | :21:06.
straight back down. What gives you confidence it would be different | :21:07. | :21:12.
this time? You have got to be competent. It did not pan out last | :21:13. | :21:17.
time. I am sure the gaffer knows who he needs to bring in to strengthen | :21:18. | :21:23.
the club. We will do all we can to do better. Let's bring in the | :21:24. | :21:28.
gaffer. What plans do you have to keep Chesterfield up? The important | :21:29. | :21:34.
thing is we enjoy the promotion. Promotions are very tough to get. | :21:35. | :21:38.
They are hard earned. It takes a long time to get promoted. The | :21:39. | :21:44.
players and staff can enjoy that. The rebuilding has been going on | :21:45. | :21:49.
prolonged time. The important thing is to make ourselves better. That is | :21:50. | :21:53.
not over a day or a week, or a month, it is over time. We have to | :21:54. | :22:01.
keep improving and getting better. Do you have holidays as football | :22:02. | :22:06.
league managers? You must work hard at your job in most things if you | :22:07. | :22:11.
want to be successful. We have got a good club. UCB support today. The | :22:12. | :22:16.
infrastructure. We have good players. Football is about good | :22:17. | :22:21.
players. We have got a lot of them. Tommy has just given an interview. | :22:22. | :22:25.
We think he's the best goalkeeper around. My job is to keep trying to | :22:26. | :22:29.
improve the team and make it better. If we can do that, I'm sure we will | :22:30. | :22:36.
be OK. Councillor John Burrows, what does it mean to the town? It is a | :22:37. | :22:41.
big day for Chesterfield. We have the supporters out there in the sun | :22:42. | :22:45.
and they will be spending money in the bars and the taverns and the | :22:46. | :22:49.
restaurants. That is what Chesterfield is all about. The party | :22:50. | :22:55.
is just starting here in Chesterfield. Let's hope York City | :22:56. | :22:56.
join them. Word of a course record. Explain? I | :22:57. | :23:12.
am not explaining anything! At me show you three pictures that came | :23:13. | :23:18.
over the weekend. Some very big showers over the weekend. And today. | :23:19. | :23:27.
This is a nice one. I love this. Beautiful. Simplistic. Millington. | :23:28. | :23:37.
Keep the pictures coming in. Tomorrow, still a bit unsettled with | :23:38. | :23:43.
sunny spells and scattered showers. The good news is, high`pressure | :23:44. | :23:48.
reaches us on Wednesday. From midweek onwards, and hopefully for | :23:49. | :23:53.
the weekend, it looks fine and bright and warm. Temperatures by | :23:54. | :23:57.
Saturday could be up to 20 or 21 degrees. Fine weather on the way. | :23:58. | :24:02.
Some heavy showers over North Yorkshire. Reports of a mini tornado | :24:03. | :24:12.
crossed East Yorkshire. `` across. The showers will lose their | :24:13. | :24:15.
intensity over night. Still a few left by dawn tomorrow morning. | :24:16. | :24:19.
Temperatures coming in at six or 7 degrees. The sun rises in the | :24:20. | :24:30.
morning. Just after four o'clock in the morning. One to showers first | :24:31. | :24:36.
thing. They will sink southwards. The skies brightened from the | :24:37. | :24:39.
north. A good deal of sunshine developing through the morning. We | :24:40. | :24:43.
are expecting some thundery downpours to break out. The showers | :24:44. | :24:49.
will be far less widespread than they have been today. Some eastern | :24:50. | :24:54.
areas will stay dry. The breeze just light and mainly from the North. Top | :24:55. | :24:59.
temperatures coming in at about 14 Celsius. Looking further ahead, | :25:00. | :25:06.
Wednesday looks nice. Dry with sunshine. The fine weather lasts | :25:07. | :25:11.
through the week and hopefully for much of the weekend. Harry has been | :25:12. | :25:20.
waiting for this moment. Go on. 110! I added it wrong! If you don't play | :25:21. | :25:27.
golf, you're not interested. We will be back when we will have the | :25:28. | :25:33.
crucial York City result at 10:25pm. Good night. | :25:34. | :26:17.
