How we got on at the Chelsea shower `` Chelsea Flower Show. Join me for

to Tuesday's Look North. The career of one of

West Yorkshire Police's most senior officers is said to be hanging

in the balance after he was stopped for drink`driving

on the day his officers were investigating the murder of the

Leeds school teacher, Ann Maguire. Detective Chief Superintendent David

Knopwood admitted failing to provide His bosses say disciplinary

hearings will follow quickly. Our crime correspondent John Cundy

reports. Highly regarded detective David

Knopwood, he was chosen to head all criminal investigations and the West

of Yorkshire including that of Jimmy Savile. He is now facing a

catastrophe because he failed to provide a breath specimen after

being caught drink`driving. It happened on the day school Ann

Maguire was murdered in Leeds. He headed up a major investigation. The

court heard that he did not need, he was so busy. He stopped at a pub to

unwind from the stress and from probably having taken too much to

drink. He was stopped by North Yorkshire Police officers or driving

very slowly here in stock well`being less than half e`mail away from his

home. He said he had drank two pints of alcohol to unwind at a local pub.

His breath test showed he was nearly two times above the legal limit. His

lawyer said that he now faces catastrophe because of his loss of

judgement. In a statement, Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Brennan,

head of standards said... Following the hearing today, they

said they will move to conclude the disciplinary process. David

Knopwood, banned for driving for one year and find ?1000 but more

announced they'll operate their most intensive weekend train

service ever when the Tour de France They're gearing up for unprecedented

numbers of passengers using trains The route along the two Yorkshire

stages of the Tour de France is 240 Most towns and villages on the route

will see more regular trains. There'll be an intensive express

service between Leeds and Harrogate. There'll be extra carriages brought

into Yorkshire from elsewhere to ease overcrowding, but

the rail companies are asking people They want you to buy tickets

in advance. And once you get to

your destination, it's suggested With more details,

here's Spencer Stokes. They are trying to drive home the

message that the first weekend in July will be busy on the roads of

Yorkshire. This event is unprecedented. We were expecting

more passengers. Thousands more to come to Yorkshire. We want everyone

to have a great experience and enjoy the weekend. Planning ahead is key.

The operators have been planning ahead for months with 2 million

people expected to line the route of the tour. Everywhere we went and

Yorkshire will see an ad service `` every railway line will see. It

makes for a complicated mixture, particularly where this location

will be central to it. On Sunday the sex of the line the railway line

will be closed which means that you want to get from York to Harrogate

on this section of the track you will not be able to do so. Whether

it be overcrowded? Extra carriages are being hired them. The real

companies do not want any additional space filled with bicycles. We have

our own sickle policy of two bicycle spare train. Recognise that your

bikes will take up space and these will be incredibly busy trains. What

happens at a family of four wants to get on with bikes or on a train?

They may not be able to travel at the tapes are that popular. Some

passengers were surprised by these restrictions. And you can take your

bikes onto the trains. I am very disappointed. There is a lack of

provision to put your bikes up on the trains. Train companies get

people regularly to big events but Yorkshire has not seen an event of

this size for something. But road closures and an influx of people

from elsewhere, the real network is bracing itself for quite a weekend.

Well, joining us now is our Tour de France correspondent Matt Slater,

who has been to many Tour de Frances in the past.

Matt, it seems strange that this is a major cycling event

but the rail companies don't want bikes on trains, why is that?

Bex take up space and passengers are the priority. They are trying to

make an exception for this Tour de France. It will not wash with many

people. As we have seen from these pictures, when the Tour de France

last game to England and visited London and Kent, there were huge

crowds and many people want to come to Yorkshire this year with their

bikes so that they can ride the roots. There will be some

disappointment. So how does it work in France? It is slightly

misleading, France is a huge country with a well integrated transport

system, only one train company to worry about and they have a century

of dealing with this race. Something else to mention is that the Tour de

France travels around France, people do not travel from as far as field

and they know that if they mess it one year they will get it next year.

We are not that blessed on that front, so there will be a real

novelty factor, real challenges for Yorkshire. Having done the route

myself, I know that you can get stuck on many parts of that route

which may cause problems. That is a key part of today's advice. Picked a

spot and plan ahead, you will not be moving around much.

What is holding some girls back from getting involved in sport? We will

find out later. There is a large police presence

in the Page Hall area of Sheffield this evening, following

a disturbance last night involving It follows concerns raised last year

by the former Home Secretary, David Blunkett,

who warned of an "explosion" in the area unless action was taken

to integrate Roma migrants. Kate Bradbrook has spent

the afternoon in Page Hall. This area of Sheffield is home to

many different cultures, races and traditions. Overall people live here

in peace but last night the police were called to a disturbance behind

me on this street which involved two groups of more than 25 people and

dozens more bystanders. The result was a 17`year`old suffering a broken

arm. I spoke to one man who saw the event happen. As I have gone down

the street I can hear shouting and screaming. The police are closing of

roads. I saw this young man with his arm and it looked broken. I ask

someone what had happened and they said he had got beaten up. No

arrests were made but police issued a dispersal order to allow them to

stop crowd gathering and to search people. Some people we have spoken

to blame racial tensions but others say it was no more than a fight

between teenagers. It was one young person against another young person

and they have started fighting at a local youth club, ran off and got

their friends and unfortunately it has unfolded upon the streets of

Page Hall. The fog just behind the centre and things got out of hand

with young people fighting. It is a very densely populated area and so

families and friends who saw these huge groups of people running

through the streets have come out to see what has gone on. It looked like

a mass brawl but probably it was about six people fighting with

hundreds of onlookers. It is quite this evening but there is still a

visible police presence to ensure things remain like that.

In other news now, two men have absconded

39`year`old Damien Burns from Scarborough and Dean Jackson,

who's 27 and from Newcastle, disappeared from HMP Standford

Hill, formerly Moorland Open Prison, yesterday evening.

Burns was serving a sentence for a knife`point robbery

and Jackson was on remand awaiting a sentence for theft.

Detectives are asking anyone who sees the men not to approach

A man remains under police guard in hospital after a woman died

and four children were injured in a house in Huddersfield.

37`year`old Emma Siswick was found with stab injuries on Sunday night.

There are just two days to go to the local council elections and some

of the minor parties are fielding more candidates across West and

Out political editor Len Tingle has been assessing their chances.

Within one year all of these councillors had left the party after

a big row with its leader George Galloway. This year, the Respect

party has ten new candidates but does not have any help at all with

those elected in its name last time around. The look of this make up of

this 96 council as we head into the elections shows it is a different

main party as it heads into power. Labour has 44 seats, close to a

majority, the rest of the seats are taken up by Conservatives, Liberal

Democrats and a variety of independents including those former

five Respect can `` politicians. Bradford is not the only council

where a small number of Green Party politicians propped up a majority.

So it is no coincidence the Green Party national leader Natalie

Bennett chose Huddersfield for this campaign rally aimed at attracting

young voters to the party. Huddersfield as the headquarters of

Kirkley's council. Just five wheeled enough power to be given a cabinet

post because the biggest party, the Labour Party, needs the five votes

to guarantee a majority. What is important is that first

breakthrough. Once we know that people like having Green

councillors, our numbers tend to grow. With UKIP's eyes on these

councils going to the polls on Thursday, Doncaster was chosen as

its last big rally. It is fielding 150 candidates in Yorkshire, a

And bringing back the medals, we hear more from the Chelsea Flower

Show. Former Yorkshire and England

cricketer Philip Sharpe has died at the age of 77

after a short illness in hospital. Sharpe, seen here on the left,

played 12 Test matches for England and is regarded as one of the best

fielders in the history of the game. He won seven County Championships

with Yorkshire in a 20`year career. His passing will be marked

on the first day of Yorkshire's match against Lancashire

at Headingley on Sunday. How do you get teenage

girls to do sport? That's the question posed by the

Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation who launched a project in Sheffield

today to get young people active. If it's successful here they hope to

roll it out across the country and But first they need to understand

what's holding girls back. What you like about sport? What is

stopping you from doing sport? I used to play a lot of sports when I

was younger but starting secondary school and a new environment, it was

not as comfortable as when you were younger, I guess. Boys think that

girls are not strong enough or that they are stronger than others. They

also look at the size that you are. They say that the bigger girls

should not take part. Everyone should be able to take part. Yes, I

think it has to do with appearance but also how much time that you

have. There is not enough time to do it and when you do find time you do

not want to go unless your friends are doing it. These were just a few

of the reasons that these girls from the school gave as to why they do

not do more sport. So how do they change this attitude? We are trying

to understand what they want to do. It is all well and good enough is

coming up with ideas but we must test out a few different styles of

classes, do they want to do dancing? Do they want to do mind, body and

yoga? Do they want to do sport. As well as dance there was football and

boxing in searching for the key to keeping these girls active. This is

the start of something that could be instrumental in how we encourage

young girls to remain in sport and keep going because we all know about

the health benefits that they will get as a result of doing this. It

has shown that it is important for girls to get involved in sport and

we are enjoying it. Even if you are not confident within yourself, you

can do a sport and have a good time. Do schools need to do different

things? Yes, mixing it up makes a difference. Will you continue to

take part in sport? Definitely. I will give it a try!

Our next guest is the undisputed king of comedy one`liners.

George Valentine from Rotherham has spent a lifetime

writing short jokes and has turned out gags for some of the nation's

most`loved comedians, including Tommy Cooper and Les Dawson.

George ` who pens 25 new jokes every morning before breakfast `

has nearly a quarter of a million followers on Twitter .

And he claims to break all comedy records,

We gave him just 30 seconds and to help you, we've counted how

George joins us now. We can safely say that you have defended your

title, as many jokes and one minute. How did you get into this, you have

been writing jokes for decades, have you not? I choose to tell the

children at school where did they get their jokes from and I took

jokes from them. I've used to jot them down whenever I've heard them.

In 1969I wrote to Bob Monkhouse and he said that my first joke I ever

wrote, I sent that to him and he said it was a sexually good and he

put me onto the producers Tommy Cooper which I wrote. `` it was very

good. You have since become an Internet sensation. It is the

delivery that counts. Many famous comedians have never written a joke

in their life. What is the secret, is it about the timing? It is

obviously, people write jokes to try and make money. Bob Monkhouse used

to write jokes for the likes of Bob Hope when he came to this country.

So they made their money on tour? That's correct. My favourite

one`liner that I have ever written was the one that I wrote Bob

Monkhouse and it was about a man who had never seen a vector before. He

said why do you wear your collar back to front. He said I do it

because I am a father. The vicar said I am the father of thousands.

The man says it is your trousers you want to look at! That is a brilliant

note to end on! So, it's medals day at the

Chelsea Flower Show and Yorkshire garden nurseries and designers are

celebrating a bumper crop of awards. Three golds, two silver`gilts,

four silvers and a bronze. Clare Frisby got up early to see

how our Yorkshire entrants got on. It is the second Sea and the medals

are being given out. It was all quiet and someone told me

they were enjoying early`morning celebrations. It was all tiers at

this nursery which got through to the best initial. I just cried my

eyes out, I looked at it and I could not believe it. Christopher was very

happy as well. I can now die happy, I have got my first gold medal.

Bonsai plants must be very difficult to control and another gold for this

nursery from Chesterfield shows that they have reached perfection. This

is the pinnacle of gardening. Winning a gold medal at the Chelsea

Flower Show is something you must obtain. Perennials and the

quintessential country garden captured the judges two and

imagination and brought back another gold medal to York. It is very nice

to beat the south. Very nice for us. But as the judges delivered their

verdicts, Alistair Baldwin, the designer of the Welcome to Yorkshire

garden did not seem very happy with his silver award. If all of these

plans are leaving you feeling deflated about your borders, here

are some top tips from this gardening guru. The inspired and at

the shore like the Chelsea Flower Show, take the best and take it home

and apply it to your own garden. Try to learn from it, do not try to

emulate it, because you will probably fail. Make it your own and

commute will be very wet with some thundery rain from the near

continent and it will only ease later on. Heavy showers for Friday

and the first half of the bank holiday weekend.
