The chief executive of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals has apologised

for the sexual crimes committed by Jimmy Savile during his 40`year

association with the Leeds General Infirmary and St James's Hospital.

An independent inquiry publhshed today has revealed the scald

of the abuse at 28 hospitals and the ease with which Savhle

The latest figures show there were 60 victims at the Leeds Gendral

But the youngest was just fhve, the oldest 75.

The incidents ranged from inappropriate behaviour to sexual

Today, the full extent of his crimes at hospitals

But it was here at the Leeds General infirmary in his home city that

the sheer scale of that abuse was at its worst.

It was quite normal to see him around the wards and departlents

indulge in abusive and inappropriate contact with patients and staff

For me, hospital contains everything I would like at this moment in time.

It contains a lot of people, a 24 hour scene,

you go to bed because you w`nt to, not because you have to.

The people are invariably in bed so they cannot get up and get `t you.

abusing many of his victims in wards, corridors and offhces

He even boasted of interferhng with the dead bodies in the morttary

When you are abused by a celebrity, they were intimidated into being

quiet, they were frightened and said they were not going to be bdlieved

and the whole celebrity status of this individual is very, very

They were vulnerable in the first place.

They do not know what their life would have been like without that,

but they do know that that has changed their life and their

They have to learn to cope with that.

For many of Jimmy Savile's victims, his legacy of abuse lives on

after suffering harm in a place where they should have been safe.

And, what is the NHS trust had to say? They described the findings

today at shocking and said they had sympathy for the victims and admit

that there should have been more scrutiny over what Jimmy Savile was

doing and said the trust. The trust has put in place 31 recommendations

and wail the last recorded hncident of Jimmy Savile was in 2009, they

from here? For hospitals will have to produce reports on Jimmy

Savile's activities. The BBC and the Department for Education will bring

out reports later this year. Today's report concludes th`t going

forward we must all be more courageous and challenging behaviour

that is unacceptable and th`t pretending not to see cannot be an

A man has appeared in court this morning, charged with

the murder of Simon Holdsworth in Sheffield just before Christmas.

Mr Holdsworth was last seen getting on a bus after leaving work

Event organisers willing to host the 2015 Sheffield Half Mar`thon
