Good evening. Welcome to Monday s Look North.

One bike race, two unforgettable days and three

Yes, this weekend the Tour de France arrived in Yorkshire,

making it the grandest Grand Depart in its history.

It is just incredible, unbelievable, amazing!

Entire communities came togdther to support the world's elite cxclists.

We've never witnessed scenes like this in Yorkshire before.

They are holding a party for after the tour. They had so much fun they

do not want it to stop! And it's showtime again tomorrow with the

Great Yorkshire Show. It is the biggest agricultural show in

England. Will the fine weather last?

But first tonight to the amazing scenes as Yorkshire

delivered the Tour de Francd to a worldwide audience.

Spectators came out in their millions to line the roadsides

and the hillsides to support the professional cycling superstars

Today the organisers have ddscribed Yorkshire's response to the race

as a 'game changer' and said it was the grandest Grand

Even the riders claimed thex'd never experience anything like it again.

Ian Bucknell reports on Yorkshire's big weekend.

After three years of planning and persuasion, the greatest cycle race

in the world arrived in Yorkshire. The grandest of Grand Departs. The

official starting line at the Royal seal of approval from Willi`m and

Katherine. We had to be herd because it might never be here again. The

atmosphere is amazing. The Xorkshire Dales saw people gather in good

numbers. Very fortunate to be at the top of the cover. We must h`ve one

of the best views. 10,000 well`wishers turned out herd almost

making it impassable. As thdy neared the finish, good a local lad when

the first leg? The faces of the Mark Cavendish Fanclub tell the story. I

was really determined. I wanted to win for all those people but that's

not how it happened. The two would have a lot to live up to. There is

still an hour to go before the riders come through but the crowds

are already out in force. York has been gripped by the Tour de France.

It's the third largest sporting event in the world behind the World

Cup and the Olympics. It is pretty exciting to be here during the Tour

de France in my new local home. From North Yorkshire to West Yorkshire.

It is just like Emmerdale on television. Super pretty. Everyone

has made a big effort. It is very nice to see. Next, the longdst

climb. Before the highest point at Holme Moss. It's been great The

wall of support continued into Sheffield and top the steepdst

ascent of the tour. It wasn't just the cyclists reaching new hdights.

But punishing ascent set up victory. No win for the British but

plenty of praise for Yorkshhre. The support is unreal. I was full of

goose bumps. It was such a lassive crowd, it was just incredible. After

Mark Cavendish crashed out, there was no Yorkshire hero in thd race.

But the effort they made to host the tour was truly heroic.

Amazing scenes and a feat of organisation which has bden

I never thought I would be part of anything better than London 201 but

this was. Well, the organisers

behind its success can justhfiably I caught up with three of them,

minutes after stage two enddd This is what the tour meant to the

people of Sheffield. He crowed you could only dream about. Emotion and

prayed all over. And first saw Rodney Walker, thanks all round The

committee only started ten lonths ago. What it brilliant job they have

done. This would not be possible without the support of a lot of

people. The Government put ?10 million in an sudden local

authorities, just in Yorkshhre. When you add it all up, it has bden a

tremendous effort. I am verx proud and privileged to be part of it For

the core's main man, it was a gamble coming year. They soon realhsed on

day one that it wasn't. I w`s 1 0% sure it would be a success. The Tour

de France is very popular btt what we saw yesterday and today hs just

unbelievable, incredible, astonishing, amazing! And so to Gary

Verity. Exhausted, trained, but the proudest man in Yorkshire. Preceding

the pellet on `` cyclists and seeing the huge crowds of people. H

couldn't see the usual landlarks. It was just unbelievable. In France,

they would give you a kiss. Well the Tour De France party

certainly hasn't ended although there will have been a few sore

heads around this morning, H'm sure! In Holme Moss they simply don't want

it to end, so they've organhsed an apres`tour tea party and invited

our Tour De France correspondent Matt, I'm sure another partx is what

you could do without. You h`ve covered five tourists. The special

was this one? `` how special? We will try to get back to Matt later

on. He has obviously having a great time.

We've been with the air ambtlance seeing how they responded over

the weekend and the army of volunteer Tour Makers who'vd helped

An 18`year`old man has pleaded guilty to the murder of

25`year`old Mr Peiris was working as a pizza delivery driver.

It happened in Sheffield last October.

Kasim Ahmed pleaded guilty this afternoon at Sheffield Crown Court.

He's expected to be sentenced later this month.

Another man, Shamraz Kahn, has pleaded not guilty to mtrder

Thousands of new jobs, houses and improvements to road

and rail links are promised across Yorkshire after a Government

announcement of around ?150 million pounds next year, with up to ?1

On a visit to Leeds, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said

the money will be made available to invest for future economic growth.

all of its glory and think, maybe I will try it for a holiday

destination. They might want to come over here and see if they c`n get up

the hill `` hills on bikes. Yorkshire, we will make surd the

world does not forget in a hurry. Now, if you looked up

during the race you'll have seen the skies of Yorkshire were buzzing

with helicopters. One of those in the air was

the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. At one point during

the race it was given priorhty when A birds eye view of one of

the emergency services. With around 2 million spectators below `nd miles

of road closures, it was difficult to get patients to hospitals. This

is the easiest way to save lives this weekend. They brought hn an

extra helicopter to cope with demand. And just in a few mhles from

the start, when schoolboy got closer to the action than he antichpated,

has leg run over by a tour vehicle. He slipped out of his chair and into

the road and a car clipped him. It's not your lucky day, is it? We're

just going to get you onto the stretcher and onto the aircraft The

result was a nasty fracture and a flight to Leeds General infhrmary.

If you miles down the route, it was Sally's effort to get a better view

that landed her in trouble. My mum owns a salon in Skipton and it has a

corrugated roof. There were a lot of people up there and we decided to go

up and watched from up therd, and she fell 20 feet. The paramddics

were fantastic. Sally was kdpt in hospital overnight then reldased.

Then it was the incline that proved too much for Paul. It was too much

for him after his recent medical problems. There is no way you would

get to hospital from you in a land ambulance. The only way is `

helicopter. In total, more than 20 patients were airlifted to

hospital. It was a successftl week on the ground and in the air.

For the first time in the tour?s history, all along the routd there

was an army of volunteers c`lled the Tourmakers, helping to dnsure

One of the best spots to watch was Buttertubs, where thousands gathered

to enjoy the spectacular, but sometimes hazardous landscape.

We were invited to join the procession of vehicles that goes

along the route before the tour A Sunday morning in your like no

other. As the caravan, the group of vehicles travelling ahead of the

race, prepares for day to. H'm travelling with Sheffield H`llam

University and one very lucky student, Emily. She has been chosen

to join their part of the c`ravan. I'm not sure what to expect but it

is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I can't wait to get going.

It has been absolutely crazx. The atmosphere is unreal.

You really do feel that the Mac every single bomb in these jeeps. It

gives you an idea of what is in store for the cyclists. `` dvery

single. Six hours after setting off, we near the finish line in

Sheffield. What a fantastic Tour de France that has been! We got a hat,

a bracelet, a beach ball, a box of matches... We did well!

Well literally thousands and thousands of you turned out over

the weekend to see the Tour, soak up the atmosphere

Yorkshire but that won't stop around a 135,000 more people visithng

Yes, tomorrow the 156th Great Yorkshire

It looks a bit mixed. This hs the biggest agricultural show in

England. There were concerns because this ground was used heavilx this

weekend but I am pleased to tell you that there have been no traffic

problems. Most of the exhibhtors are in the showground and everybody is

looking forward to what shotld be very special Great Yorkshird Show. I

want to show you a special picture. It is like a miracle sent in to mark

the end of the Tour de France. It is an odd to listen cloud, caused by

the sun shining on ice crystals in the atmosphere. So, the fordcast for

the Great Yorkshire Show. There will be the risk of afternoon showers.

But they are hit and miss. There might be one, it might last for an

hour, hazy might not get anx. Thursday as the risk of rain.

Through this evening and after night `` overnight, showers will creep

up. Tomorrow, showers will be triggered fairly quickly late in the

morning. Sunny spells at first but we will see scattered showers

breaking out, potentially qtite heavy in the afternoon, with a risk

of thunder. The best of the sunshine will be towards the coast. Bring

your umbrella to the showground because showers could be he`vy, but

there will be really nice stnshine as well. Dawn temperatures `t 1

Celsius. `` top temperatures. The breeze will be variable indhrection.

The further outlook for Wednesday is mostly dry and bright. Therd is

uncertainty after that as wd are expecting rain from the East but it

might hold off until Thursd`y. I will be back at 10:30am. We cannot

go back to Matt in Holme Moss but if you're in the area, there is a party
