New security measures for electronic devices have been introduced | :00:00. | :00:00.
We can reveal that more than ?1 million was spent on the | :00:00. | :00:14.
investigation ` money that could have gone towards patient care. | :00:15. | :00:23.
It is a tragedy that money for health care should have to go | :00:24. | :00:27.
towards that. It has to be paid for. Should | :00:28. | :00:37.
our hospitals have had to pay? Also tonight, | :00:38. | :00:39.
he is the man of the moment.. Gary Verity brought us | :00:40. | :00:44.
Le Grand Depart. Can he deliver a Tour de Yorkshire | :00:45. | :00:46.
and a professional women's race? This will affect so many lives in so | :00:47. | :00:58.
many different ways, many of which we have not even thought about yet. | :00:59. | :01:01.
And we are back at the Great Yorkshire Show, celebrating 40 | :01:02. | :01:03.
years of the world's biggest association of sidesaddle riders. | :01:04. | :01:11.
The place has been perfect, with the lovely weather, so what is in | :01:12. | :01:18.
prospect for tomorrow? Join me later for the full weather forecast. | :01:19. | :01:23.
But first tonight, to the cost of the inquiry | :01:24. | :01:26.
which Leeds teaching hospitals was forced to make in the wake of | :01:27. | :01:28.
the abuse allegations made against the late entertainer Jimmy Savile. | :01:29. | :01:31.
We can reveal that more than ?1 million was spent, mainly | :01:32. | :01:34.
on legal fees and administration, on the 18`month investigation. | :01:35. | :01:36.
One Leeds MP has described the use of funds that could have been used | :01:37. | :01:39.
for patient care as Jimmy Savile "mocking us from beyond the grave". | :01:40. | :01:42.
Our health correspondent Jamie Coulson has this exclusive report. | :01:43. | :01:57.
Jimmy Savile, entertainer, not a paedophile and sex abuser. Two weeks | :01:58. | :02:12.
ago, the scale of his claims that hospitals were revealed. For five | :02:13. | :02:21.
decades, he abused patients and staff while working as a volunteer. | :02:22. | :02:28.
Today, it was revealed that the cost of the investigation into his claims | :02:29. | :02:34.
at the hospital in Leeds was over ?1 million. Most of that was staffing | :02:35. | :02:42.
costs and legal fees. The majority will have to be paid for by the | :02:43. | :02:50.
hospital trust. It is a tragedy that money for patient care should have | :02:51. | :02:56.
to go for this. This has to be paid for, but as far as I am concerned, | :02:57. | :03:02.
this is Jimmy Savile mocking us from beyond the grave. This is taking a | :03:03. | :03:10.
further ?1 million a we from patients. His involvement with the | :03:11. | :03:22.
hospital started in the 1960s. They had to interview people over the | :03:23. | :03:26.
decades and analyse thousands of documents. The cost reflects the | :03:27. | :03:35.
significance of the investigation. It brought to light abuses over a 50 | :03:36. | :03:42.
year period. This was just one part of the cost to the NHS. There are | :03:43. | :03:49.
still separate reports coming from the BBC and the Department for | :03:50. | :03:53.
Education about possible abuses elsewhere. | :03:54. | :03:55.
Now, he was instrumental in bringing the world's biggest | :03:56. | :03:57.
sporting event to Yorkshire and what a success it was. | :03:58. | :03:59.
The Grand Depart of this year's Tour De France saw unprecedented scenes | :04:00. | :04:02.
across the county, with millions of you lining the route in support. | :04:03. | :04:05.
For Gary Verity, the head of Welcome To Yorkshire, it | :04:06. | :04:07.
has been three years in the making ` and not without controversy. | :04:08. | :04:10.
Today he was back in Yorkshire for the first time since Le Tour | :04:11. | :04:14.
Tanya Arnold caught up with him and began by asking how difficult | :04:15. | :04:17.
I am glad we did not give up. We are the claims you make of dumb? Not me | :04:18. | :04:38.
personally, people were asking, why did we not do a deal with Edinburgh? | :04:39. | :04:48.
People said, highly do you want to even host the Tour de France? What | :04:49. | :04:55.
is that all about? But I stubbornly ignored all of that. I have a team | :04:56. | :05:04.
here who are all on the knees and exhausted. There are a lot of people | :05:05. | :05:09.
to take credit, such as the local authorities. You personally were | :05:10. | :05:18.
taking a fair amount of criticism from a fairly tidy up bases. For | :05:19. | :05:28.
sure, and it is still happening. But the head of the Tour de France said | :05:29. | :05:37.
I know no that you are a man with the wilful refusal to take no for an | :05:38. | :05:42.
answer. What do you want the legacy to be? I think you can see the | :05:43. | :05:46.
legacy. The perception of Yorkshire has changed. You will see that as | :05:47. | :05:54.
more people come here. It has made life better for businessmen and | :05:55. | :06:00.
having conversations with globally know who have seen Yorkshire on the | :06:01. | :06:03.
television over the world and will say, we saw it, it is stunning. What | :06:04. | :06:11.
a great event you put on. I think you will see that though. I think | :06:12. | :06:16.
hopefully also from a cycling point of view, more people will simply be | :06:17. | :06:21.
using their bikes in Yorkshire. We will have a 3`D racing Yorkshire | :06:22. | :06:26.
next year and down the middle day, a professional women's race. But that | :06:27. | :06:32.
definitely happen? It is very important to myself. It is very | :06:33. | :06:40.
important to us that we have the women's race. But it will be only | :06:41. | :06:46.
the one day. It is not about equality? You have to start | :06:47. | :06:51.
somewhere, start with something. Let us get that out that way and then we | :06:52. | :06:55.
will look at it in the future. This will affect so many ways in so | :06:56. | :07:04.
different ways. I am sure the tour being year will be reflected in | :07:05. | :07:09.
years to come when it is judged as a defining moment as for the county. | :07:10. | :07:14.
As a proud Yorkshireman, to have brought back, how does that make you | :07:15. | :07:23.
feel? I get a bit emotional. You have got people around the world | :07:24. | :07:28.
seeing how beautiful our county is incredible it is what we wanted. Job | :07:29. | :07:31.
done. Yes, well done. Later on Look North ? old, | :07:32. | :07:42.
but not forgotten. We have been inside Bradford's | :07:43. | :07:44.
abandoned Odeon with TV's MPs have been told they should be | :07:45. | :07:47.
doing more to save Yorkshire's pits, particularly in light of plans | :07:48. | :07:57.
for a brand`new coal`fired power station at Drax | :07:58. | :07:59.
which were announced yesterday. The Select Committee on Climate | :08:00. | :08:01.
Change heard that foreign imports of coal are now dominating the | :08:02. | :08:03.
market, leaving Kellingley Colliery in North Yorkshire and Hatfield | :08:04. | :08:05.
near Doncaster out in the cold. Our Political Editor Len | :08:06. | :08:08.
Tingle has this report. Just this week, the power station | :08:09. | :08:26.
Drax at one the contract to build a new clean coal bundling plan, but it | :08:27. | :08:33.
is unlikely to help the beleaguered coal mines. This is Kellingley | :08:34. | :08:39.
Colliery in full production, making profit, it is just four miles from | :08:40. | :08:45.
revenue station would be built. But without economic help from the | :08:46. | :08:51.
government, its future can be measured any manner of months. | :08:52. | :08:55.
Today, MPs were told that the operators want to shut it down | :08:56. | :09:00.
before new environmental targets kick in. Unions say they should keep | :09:01. | :09:06.
it going until the new plant comes online, rather than relying on | :09:07. | :09:14.
imports, many of them from Russia. It must be better for the | :09:15. | :09:18.
environment for us to ship the call from here than to import it from the | :09:19. | :09:24.
likes of Russia. This is not the only colliery that gave evidence. | :09:25. | :09:31.
The only other outdoor pet but Frank Field, which was opened by a | :09:32. | :09:36.
partnership of May management, today, the chairman said that if | :09:37. | :09:44.
Kellingley Colliery closed down, the industry, though measuring just | :09:45. | :09:48.
three colonies around England, would someone be too small to be viable. | :09:49. | :09:57.
Going forward, what we need is long`term contracts that they will | :09:58. | :10:05.
burn British call. The worry is that when the report lands on the desk of | :10:06. | :10:11.
MPs, it will not put the enough pressure on the government to give | :10:12. | :10:13.
them a long`term future. Bassetlaw MP John Mann says there | :10:14. | :10:18.
may still be copies of a dossier from the 1980s which | :10:19. | :10:20.
claims public figures at Westminster Investigations have been launched | :10:21. | :10:23.
after it emerged that the Home John Mann says he has been | :10:24. | :10:27.
told that copies were passed He also says that he understands | :10:28. | :10:31.
people who saw the documents were asked to sign | :10:32. | :10:34.
the Official Secrets Act and he This was sent elsewhere. The reason | :10:35. | :10:52.
people are not coming forward, I believe, is that everyone who saw | :10:53. | :10:58.
was forced to sign the official secrets act. The official secrets | :10:59. | :10:59.
act. We need document removing. A number of schools | :11:00. | :11:04.
across the region will be affected tomorrow, as some public sector | :11:05. | :11:07.
workers stage a one`day strike over There are | :11:08. | :11:09.
around 80 full or partial closures In South Yorkshire, more than 250 | :11:10. | :11:12.
schools will also be affected ` For full information | :11:13. | :11:16.
about the disruption, check A GP from Bawtry has been jailed | :11:17. | :11:20.
for nearly 12 years after being convicted of sexually assaulting | :11:21. | :11:33.
nine patients over three decades. 62`year`old Andrew Johnson was found | :11:34. | :11:35.
guilty of 15 offences of indecent and sexual assault, | :11:36. | :11:37.
following a seven week trial The offences were committed | :11:38. | :11:40.
against women and girls as young as 14 between 1979 and 2006 | :11:41. | :11:43.
at Station Road Surgery in Bawtry Mr Johnson was also convicted | :11:44. | :11:46.
of a separate charge of historical sexual abuse against a | :11:47. | :11:49.
teenage girl who was not a patient. People living in historic Saltaire | :11:50. | :12:05.
near Bradford have been told they face legal action | :12:06. | :12:08.
if their front doors do not comply The village, built by Sir Titus Salt | :12:09. | :12:10.
for workers at his nearby mill, was Every property in | :12:11. | :12:15.
the area has been looked at and some 's of all designs and colours. The | :12:16. | :12:41.
council was not happy and has written to some residents telling | :12:42. | :12:44.
them that they face legal action if they do not smarten up their | :12:45. | :12:50.
properties. It is about standards and reflecting how the village was | :12:51. | :12:56.
originally. That is its unique value. But the residents we spoke to | :12:57. | :13:00.
did not know what all the fuss was about. I have got a green door and, | :13:01. | :13:11.
coming from South America, I like bright colours. It seems to me | :13:12. | :13:15.
strange that they are bothering about the front doors, when it seems | :13:16. | :13:19.
there are a lot of other things that are wrong and that they could pick | :13:20. | :13:25.
up on. The homes are grade two listed and the council wants | :13:26. | :13:30.
consistency and says it will do all I can to help residents comply with | :13:31. | :13:38.
the special regulations. They would not let put washing outside the. | :13:39. | :13:47.
BBC Look North has been given exclusive access inside Bradford's | :13:48. | :13:49.
We accompanied the presenter of Channel's 4's Restoration Man | :13:50. | :13:52.
series, who was invited to the cinema | :13:53. | :13:54.
A huge question mark hangs over the future of the much`loved | :13:55. | :13:58.
building with redevelopment still not a certainty. | :13:59. | :14:00.
This was known as the second cinema and the capacity was 1200. It is 14 | :14:01. | :14:25.
years this month since the closing of the cinema. Since then, nearly | :14:26. | :14:31.
everything has been stripped out. But there are still in few reminders | :14:32. | :14:41.
of the past. It opened as a 3300 seater theatre in 1930, the biggest | :14:42. | :14:48.
outside London. In 1969, it was converted into three smaller cinemas | :14:49. | :14:54.
and the Bengal. Much of what remains fierce relatively modern. It was | :14:55. | :14:59.
locked up in 2000 and then abandoned. It was a good viable | :15:00. | :15:08.
option. There is no point restoring up for restoration seek. It has to | :15:09. | :15:13.
have a viable use or in 30 years time, it will be back in this | :15:14. | :15:20.
condition. The case or accept it could be saved. Two proposals have | :15:21. | :15:23.
been put forward by independent groups. One of these proposals is | :15:24. | :15:33.
for a music venue. The other is looking at the combination of | :15:34. | :15:39.
community facilities and student flats. It may cost in the region of | :15:40. | :15:46.
?20 million to time the eye`catching features into reality. The | :15:47. | :15:57.
opportunity to recycle buildings as a huge amount of potential. People | :15:58. | :16:01.
have got huge emotional connections with buildings like this and by | :16:02. | :16:05.
saving them and giving them a new lease of life and restoring them, it | :16:06. | :16:11.
is great for every town and city, as far as I am concerned. He was quite | :16:12. | :16:23.
excited by aspects of the building and wants to be kept abreast of | :16:24. | :16:27.
developments. He has a real And one for the ladies, ` | :16:28. | :17:01.
we take a look at the history Now, police are using | :17:02. | :17:05.
the Tour de France to encourage Last year, more than 5,000 bicycles | :17:06. | :17:08.
were reported stolen across Yorkshire, | :17:09. | :17:11.
but police say the real figure is likely to be much higher as most | :17:12. | :17:13.
people do not bother to tell them. many cases, the owners have not been | :17:14. | :18:30.
found because they not officially recorded about missing or recorded | :18:31. | :18:35.
the make or serial number. The bait shop works with the police to keep | :18:36. | :18:41.
an eye on the serial numbers of the bikes they sell. Make a note of the | :18:42. | :18:47.
serial number as well as the make and model. Preferably, even take a | :18:48. | :18:54.
photograph. If the bike is stolen, you have that information that you | :18:55. | :18:59.
can pass on to others. It means saving of public shows up after | :19:00. | :19:03.
being sold on, it can be traced and returned. Let assaults on people | :19:04. | :19:09.
watching will take that advice. Sport now | :19:10. | :19:12.
and what is promised to be a new era for rugby union in Yorkshire began | :19:13. | :19:15.
in Leeds this morning. The club formerly known as | :19:16. | :19:17.
Leeds Carnegie was re`launched as It is hoped the move will attract | :19:18. | :19:20.
new investment to help The long`term plan is to make | :19:21. | :19:23.
it easier for young players Everybody understands that there is | :19:24. | :19:42.
a process that if there is talent, the talent should draw that system | :19:43. | :19:48.
in. On the way, it should keep their base in those areas which are | :19:49. | :19:54.
strong. It allows more people to be involved along with it. | :19:55. | :19:57.
In cricket, Yorkshire are pushing for a victory | :19:58. | :19:58.
that would take them back to the top of the County Championship. | :19:59. | :20:01.
Steve Patterson trapped Mark Wood LBW, as the home side | :20:02. | :20:04.
It was left to Ryan Sidebottom to polish off their innings with Side | :20:05. | :20:08.
saddle, raiding the side another LBW dismissal. | :20:09. | :20:10.
BBC radio is all about trust. No one fits the bill better than Peter. He | :20:11. | :20:41.
joined the station in 1984 and is known as the voice of the year | :20:42. | :20:47.
waves. This week, colleagues celebrated his landmark with a | :20:48. | :20:52.
surprise civic reception in the city. Three decades as the voice of | :20:53. | :20:57.
radio Sheffield celebrated with the real surprise. With the help of the | :20:58. | :21:03.
co`host, the team turned the microphone on the man himself. I | :21:04. | :21:10.
turned up to interview the Lord Mayor and it suddenly burst open and | :21:11. | :21:15.
there was lots of people I have known for years. What makes him so | :21:16. | :21:21.
special? That fascination with people really shines through. He is | :21:22. | :21:27.
fascinated by people and we are fascinated by him. Long may he | :21:28. | :21:33.
continue. He has made some features which have been a bit out there. I | :21:34. | :21:40.
remember giving him being naked in Turkish baths. I cannot remember a | :21:41. | :21:46.
time when he was not on the radio. The people of Sheffield and the | :21:47. | :21:53.
people of Yorkshire just adore him. At the Yorkshire sure, I caught up | :21:54. | :21:57.
with them. How have you lasted so long? I have been doing it every day | :21:58. | :22:04.
and no one has noticed. What are your memories of joining? I used to | :22:05. | :22:11.
switch it on and it 11 o'clock every day and thought, I would love to | :22:12. | :22:15.
join the place and I was lucky enough to do that. What was the | :22:16. | :22:20.
biggest story? I think it was just when I joined, it was the start of | :22:21. | :22:26.
the may not strike. Congratulations to them. Well played. No, it is 800 | :22:27. | :22:41.
years since and not be the mere put a chair like application on a horse, | :22:42. | :22:50.
the first person to raid sidesaddle. There is an appreciation of the art | :22:51. | :22:56.
with celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the local | :22:57. | :22:57.
association. It is the true test of both horse | :22:58. | :23:19.
and a horse women, raiding sidesaddle. Perfect balance must be | :23:20. | :23:26.
achieved. It was an ideal place to see what is becoming a dying skill. | :23:27. | :23:35.
It is an art. It is elegant. It lists you as a Raider and also makes | :23:36. | :23:37.
you feel part of a bygone era. It was women's long skirts and a | :23:38. | :23:53.
desire to remain modestly that made sidesaddle raiding a thing of the | :23:54. | :24:02.
past, but as things change, outfits became more practical. I am feeling | :24:03. | :24:07.
rather underdressed today. Lisa, you look fantastic. We have the lovely | :24:08. | :24:15.
cutaway jacket. This has the safety apron on it. We are also be able to | :24:16. | :24:25.
get off the horse easily. Years ago, they had the full skirt on, which | :24:26. | :24:29.
would have made life much more difficult. There were days, we can | :24:30. | :24:37.
get fairly safely. The fame and then femininity of the dress belies the | :24:38. | :24:41.
toughness of the Raiders of the past. Some even take themselves off | :24:42. | :24:50.
to the First World War, as nurses. You imagine scores of women going on | :24:51. | :24:57.
the battlefield in scarlet uniforms to rescue victims and bring them | :24:58. | :25:02.
back to the military stations. It is just one of the stories being told | :25:03. | :25:08.
that the BBC's exhibit. In the present day, they have a pressing | :25:09. | :25:15.
problem, the lack of saddles. We believe many people may have them in | :25:16. | :25:20.
the attic, so please get them out and give them to us. We need them to | :25:21. | :25:30.
continue love doing what we do. Without them, the art world daddy. | :25:31. | :25:36.
And that would be a great shame. That is such a skill. If you are | :25:37. | :25:42.
going there, make a point of going to the BBC exhibition. Letters is | :25:43. | :25:50.
what the weather stays as nice as it has been. Paul has been the today. | :25:51. | :25:54.
It was glorious when we were there earlier. | :25:55. | :26:00.
Just like how many people are still watching. If the Kahneman spins | :26:01. | :26:13.

High temperatures of 18 Celsius. Further east, that trend could be | :27:22. | :27:26.

Tomorrow's forecast coming from here once again. Good night. | :27:42. | :27:56.
and this time the challenge is bigger than ever. | :27:57. | :27:59.
