John Heald began after the lurder of Bay Carter on Friday. It has spread | :01:36. | :01:41.
to his native South Yorkshire, where he is also wanted in connection with | :01:42. | :01:45.
what is being described as ` serious offence in the Sheffield and | :01:46. | :01:50.
Rotherham area on May 13. There were sightings of him in Mexborotgh the | :01:51. | :01:56.
weekend. Residents of Bridlhngton have expressed their shock `t her | :01:57. | :02:01.
killing. She was a lovely woman always out with her flowers, | :02:02. | :02:04.
cleaning the pathway, talking to people in general and out doing | :02:05. | :02:10.
stuff. Lovely. I am very frhghtened. I have to Macri young children and | :02:11. | :02:16.
this is absolutely awful. As the hunt continues for John Heald police | :02:17. | :02:20.
have repeated the warning that he is considered a dangerous man `nd | :02:21. | :02:22.
members of the public should not approach him. | :02:23. | :02:26.
The Government is to give up control of most of Doncaster Council's | :02:27. | :02:29.
A series of crises including the deaths of seven youngstdrs | :02:30. | :02:33.
For four years councillors have been unable to run their own town. | :02:34. | :02:39.
In 2009, the Government orddred a takeover after a report found | :02:40. | :02:42.
the council was failing and not capable of improving. | :02:43. | :02:46.
In October this year an independent trust will start | :02:47. | :02:49.
running children's services, the first time this has ever happened. | :02:50. | :02:53.
Other services were due to fall back under council control next xear | :02:54. | :02:56.
Kate Bradbrook has been getting reaction this evening. | :02:57. | :03:04.
Tell us what has been happening today. On the whole, very positive | :03:05. | :03:13.
news for Doncaster Council, which since 2010 has been overseen by the | :03:14. | :03:19.
Government. That was followhng an audit commission report which | :03:20. | :03:23.
concluded it was failing. A scathing report, in fact. It said thd people | :03:24. | :03:27.
of Doncaster were not being well served and political rivalrx was | :03:28. | :03:31.
taking precedence over doing what was right for the people of | :03:32. | :03:38.
Doncaster. Today, a review by the Local Government Association | :03:39. | :03:41.
concluded that things had m`terially changed in Doncaster. Because of | :03:42. | :03:46.
that, the council will come out of special measures in Septembdr. | :03:47. | :03:50.
Earlier the Mayor of Doncaster gave me her reaction. It allows ts to get | :03:51. | :03:57.
on like many other councils in driving forward improvements. | :03:58. | :04:00.
Improving our borough, getthng jobs and growth, without someone looking | :04:01. | :04:05.
over our shoulders. But we will not sit on our laurels. We will continue | :04:06. | :04:09.
to drive improvement for thhs borough. The people deserve it and | :04:10. | :04:13.
we will do that. Explain wh`t is happening with children's sdrvices. | :04:14. | :04:18.
The department has gone frol crisis to crisis, including the de`ths of | :04:19. | :04:20.
seven children over a five`xear period. Also, a serious casd review | :04:21. | :04:28.
into the Edlington case where two young boys were tortured by two | :04:29. | :04:34.
brothers. Last year it was decided that the children's services | :04:35. | :04:37.
department should be taken over by an independent trust. We now know | :04:38. | :04:41.
that will happen from Octobdr. The Mayor told me tonight that things | :04:42. | :04:45.
have changed since then and that safeguards are now in place to | :04:46. | :04:50.
protect young people in Doncaster. The future for the borough hs now | :04:51. | :04:51.
much brighter. Thank you. A man has been jailed for at least | :04:52. | :04:58.
nine years for raping a pensioner at knife`point in her own home in Leeds | :04:59. | :05:01.
and robbing her of her jewellery. Tremayne Gaskell attacked | :05:02. | :05:04.
his 68`year`old victim in Fdbruary. The woman says she's had to give up | :05:05. | :05:09.
her home after the prolonged attack. Police have called him | :05:10. | :05:13.
a dangerous sexual predator. A man's been charged | :05:14. | :05:19.
after allegedly going on wh`t police described as a rampage with | :05:20. | :05:21.
a digger around a tip in Todmorden. The Eastwood Recycling Centre | :05:22. | :05:24.
on Halifax Road is closed until further notice | :05:25. | :05:27.
following the incident on S`turday. No`one was hurt | :05:28. | :05:29.
but there is extensive damage. Trevor Lewis, who's 59, has been | :05:30. | :05:32.
charged with criminal damagd. Bradford Bulls have dropped | :05:33. | :05:39.
their legal challenge to the points deduction they rdceived | :05:40. | :05:41.
for going into administration. It means | :05:42. | :05:44.
the Bulls will begin next sdason outside of rugby league's top flight | :05:45. | :05:48.
for the first time in 40 ye`rs. Their relegation was confirled | :05:49. | :05:52.
yesterday after defeat Bradford's chairman is confhdent | :05:53. | :05:53.
its main sponsor will continue to All the sound bites have bedn | :05:54. | :06:08.
positive. We are planning on announcing over the next ten days | :06:09. | :06:13.
other major sponsors that wd have secured and who have come on board | :06:14. | :06:18.
in light of the peril of relegation. I am extremely confident about the | :06:19. | :06:22.
future in prospect. Commerchally and on the playing field for thhs club. | :06:23. | :06:30.
There will be more on Bradford's relegation at 11:20pm on BBC One. | :06:31. | :06:35.
Let's get the latest forecast. Another gorgeous evening. | :06:36. | :06:39.
Beautiful. 25 degrees this `fternoon and another one week across | :06:40. | :06:43.
Yorkshire to come. A change as low mist and cloud spreads inland on the | :06:44. | :06:51.
coast but then burns back to the coast in the afternoon. High | :06:52. | :06:55.
pressure comes in from Scandinavia, dominating the weather. Find weather | :06:56. | :07:00.
on the way. Cloud and missed pushes as far west as the Vale of Xork and | :07:01. | :07:05.
into Leeds but to the West, the Pennines stay clear with low | :07:06. | :07:11.
temperatures around 12. A great start in places and the Pennines | :07:12. | :07:17.
will be bright from the word go Mist and fog burns back to the | :07:18. | :07:23.
coast. Plenty of sunshine inland. 25 Celsius the high and a similar story | :07:24. | :07:26.
for the rest of the week with warm weather on the way. I will leave you | :07:27. | :07:35.
Good evening. If you were unfortunate enough to be at the | :07:36. | :07:41.
sharp end of the weekend storms you'll be pleased to know that the | :07:42. | :07:48.
atmosphere is less volatile now Temperatures of 28 Celsius on the | :07:49. | :07:52.
Sussex coast today. Most places were fine and warm. | :07:53. | :07:55.
In Scotland it was cool with the breeze off the sea. Some eastern | :07:56. | :08:01.
coasts will be cooler. They will be the exception. Most of us very warm | :08:02. | :08:05.
and the vast majority will stay dry. That is the way overnight. A lot of | :08:06. | :08:10.
low cloud drifting to eastern | :08:11. | :08:11. |
