She's in the studio to tell us all about it. | :00:33. | :00:45.
The cloud has broken over Derwent water. Will there be any sunshine | :00:46. | :00:48.
returning tomorrow. One of Yorkshire's most prominent | :00:49. | :00:59.
politicians, the Conservative peer Baroness | :01:00. | :01:01.
Warsi, has quit the government in The former Foreign Office Minister, | :01:02. | :01:05.
who's from Dewsbury, says Britain's The Chancellor George Osborne says | :01:06. | :01:11.
her decision is disappointing and frankly unnecessary, | :01:12. | :01:17.
but she's had plenty of support for the move here in Yorkshire, | :01:18. | :01:21.
as Dave Edwards reports. This was Baroness Warsi putting out | :01:22. | :01:33.
a candle at a ward for one centenary service last night. Today she has | :01:34. | :01:38.
chosen to extinguish her own career as a government minister. It's all | :01:39. | :01:43.
because of what is happening thousands of miles away in Gaza. | :01:44. | :01:49.
Were at least 1800 Palestinians and 67 Israelis have died over the past | :01:50. | :01:54.
month. She wants a tougher line against Israel. Over the last four | :01:55. | :02:00.
weeks I have done everything I can at meetings trying to convince my | :02:01. | :02:05.
colleagues that our current policy on Gaza is morally indefensible. It | :02:06. | :02:10.
is not a British interests and will have consequences for us both | :02:11. | :02:13.
internationally and here at home. In the end, I felt the government | :02:14. | :02:19.
position was not right and as a point of principle I had to resign. | :02:20. | :02:24.
It is an issue that has generated strong feelings here in Yorkshire in | :02:25. | :02:28.
recent weeks. Thousands have demonstrated in Bradford mostly in | :02:29. | :02:35.
support of the Palestinians. Organisers on delighted at what | :02:36. | :02:40.
baroness Basi has done. `` Baroness Warsi. | :02:41. | :02:47.
To prove that she is against what is happening in Gaza. On the other | :02:48. | :02:57.
side, this was a demonstration in Leeds last month organised by the | :02:58. | :03:00.
Jewish community. The action there today was different. The government | :03:01. | :03:06.
is trying to take it position whereby it is trying to effect | :03:07. | :03:12.
change in that region. Taking one side or another will not achieve | :03:13. | :03:16.
that. We want a permanent cease`fire and demilitarisation of her mass. | :03:17. | :03:22.
Baroness Warsi was born here in Dewsbury. She's become one of the | :03:23. | :03:27.
most prominent politicians in the country. Her colleagues may disagree | :03:28. | :03:32.
with but she has had plenty of support on the streets. She has done | :03:33. | :03:40.
an honourable thing. For humanity sake. She has taken a bold decision. | :03:41. | :03:43.
I thank her. I support. I think Israel has gone | :03:44. | :03:56.
beyond what can I say? Baroness Warsi said she is leaving with deep | :03:57. | :04:01.
regret and hope the government will change and approach that she is | :04:02. | :04:02.
calling morally indefensible. The High Court in Leeds has today | :04:03. | :04:08.
quashed a planned rent increase A judge ruled that the proposal | :04:09. | :04:11.
by Leeds City Council was unlawful. Now legal experts are warning | :04:12. | :04:14.
that councils will need to make sure their future budget | :04:15. | :04:17.
decisions comply with the law. They are local gardeners taken on | :04:18. | :04:33.
Leeds City Council. Today at the court they won their fight. The | :04:34. | :04:40.
judge quashed a planned rent increase for allotment tenants | :04:41. | :04:44.
saying it was unlawful. This is local people taking on the big boys. | :04:45. | :04:51.
It has been stressful. We don't get paid for this. It has been very | :04:52. | :04:59.
good. Allotments are very popular in Leeds. There are almost 4000 of them | :05:00. | :05:03.
across the city and there is a waiting list. Some tenants feared | :05:04. | :05:08.
they may have to give up their plot if the rent is increased. Allotment | :05:09. | :05:13.
holders on a site like this have been paying ?37 a year for a full | :05:14. | :05:20.
plot. The council wanted to increase that to ?58 by the end of this year. | :05:21. | :05:28.
And then by 2016 to ?72 a year. Two thirds of the rent on some sites | :05:29. | :05:32.
like this one is retained by volunteers for maintenance. But the | :05:33. | :05:37.
council wanted to change that so most of the money went to the local | :05:38. | :05:40.
authority instead. The allotment holders felt that was morally wrong. | :05:41. | :05:47.
The decision was unlawful and on fire. We tried to talk to the | :05:48. | :05:52.
council to persuade them to look at it again and they refused. We have | :05:53. | :05:58.
been lift with no choice. The planned rent hike was ruled to be | :05:59. | :06:06.
unlawful. What could this mean for future financial decisions by | :06:07. | :06:09.
councils? The overall message is that councils need to take difficult | :06:10. | :06:16.
budget decisions and they have two take regard to whether they are | :06:17. | :06:24.
agreeing with the law. Council leaders have told us they are | :06:25. | :06:26.
disappointed to have lost on a narrow point of law. They said they | :06:27. | :06:29.
will now consider an appeal. The Shadow Chancellor of the | :06:30. | :06:33.
Exchequer and West Yorkshire MP Ed Balls has been fined ?900 and given | :06:34. | :06:35.
five penalty points after failing to stop after a minor accident in his | :06:36. | :06:39.
constituency in Morley last April. It was the fourth motoring offence | :06:40. | :06:42.
by Mr Balls in the last four years. Our Crime Correspondent John Cundy | :06:43. | :06:46.
reports. He didn't have to come to court | :06:47. | :06:50.
for his motoring offence early this The Shadow Chancellor and Morley MP, | :06:51. | :06:54.
Ed Balls, pleaded guilty by letter. On April 5th this year, the Shadow | :06:55. | :06:59.
Chancellor was doing what he has since called 'a five or seven`point | :07:00. | :07:02.
turn' here outside the Labour club Today, Mr Balls was fined ?900 with | :07:03. | :07:07.
five penalty points on his licence. But it was the fourth motoring | :07:08. | :07:16.
mishap for the Shadow Chancellor In 2010, | :07:17. | :07:20.
he used a mobile phone behind the December 2012, | :07:21. | :07:26.

fined ?350 three penalty points. April last year for speeding | :07:32. | :07:35.
at 56 mph on the 50 stretch Then, in April this year, | :07:36. | :07:41.
the accident in Morley. A district judge said failing to | :07:42. | :07:48.
stop after an accident was a serious matter, | :07:49. | :07:51.
but Mr Balls' offence had been very If only he had stopped, | :07:52. | :07:56.
said the judge, the matter would Ed Balls' carelessness | :07:57. | :08:00.
in turning around in this narrow passageway cost him more than ?1,000 | :08:01. | :08:05.
in fines and costs today, and the His office today referred | :08:06. | :08:09.
the media to two statements made earlier this year by the | :08:10. | :08:15.
Shadow Chancellor in which he said he took full responsibility for what | :08:16. | :08:18.
had happened and would pay the cost A woman's been arrested after the | :08:19. | :08:22.
sudden death of a fellow patient at The body of 52`year`old | :08:23. | :08:32.
Linda Goswell from Halifax was discovered at the Cygnet Hospital | :08:33. | :08:37.

police, has been released on bail. A post`mortem failed to determine | :08:42. | :08:44.
a cause of death. The founder and principal | :08:45. | :08:47.
of the King's Science Academy in Bradford has been sacked following | :08:48. | :08:53.
a disciplinary investigation. Sajid Raza Hussain also remains | :08:54. | :08:56.
on police bail following allegations The Academy has had a number | :08:57. | :08:59.
of problems including the alleged mishandling of tens | :09:00. | :09:04.
of thousands of pounds in funding. Governors have asked the Department | :09:05. | :09:08.

their support for a school caretaker from West Yorkshire, | :09:12. | :09:19.
facing deportation to Kenya. These were the scenes at | :09:20. | :09:21.
Lady Hastings School in Collingham near Wetherby this afternoon, | :09:22. | :09:25.
where Portas Ongondo works. The father of three has been | :09:26. | :09:28.
in the UK for eight years But, after a breakdown | :09:29. | :09:31.
in his marriage, he lost an appeal He, and the community, | :09:32. | :09:35.
say they will fight on. Now, how about getting from Leeds to | :09:36. | :09:43.
Manchester in thirty minutes Well today five City regions | :09:44. | :09:46.
across the North gave the Chancellor a fifteen billion pound shopping | :09:47. | :09:56.
list of spending on road and rail improvements designed to achieve all | :09:57. | :10:01.
that over fifteen years. Our Political Editor Len Tingle | :10:02. | :10:04.
reports. The Chancellor George Osborne was | :10:05. | :10:14.
told in no uncertain terms how important it is for this mill near | :10:15. | :10:18.
Wetherby to get its finished products out quickly and on time. | :10:19. | :10:23.
Not surprising because its customers use this specialised fireproof | :10:24. | :10:28.
material to cover Kevlar bullet`proof vests and the seating | :10:29. | :10:32.
in military vehicles. The Chancellor had come here after meeting the | :10:33. | :10:35.
leaders from five city leaders across the North. They have a ?15 | :10:36. | :10:41.
billion shopping list for what they say are vital improvements to roll | :10:42. | :10:49.
and red links. It is great that the five cities have come together to | :10:50. | :10:54.
produce a single plan. It is a vision of what I have set out as a | :10:55. | :10:58.
northern powerhouse to bring the cities across the Pennines together | :10:59. | :11:02.
to make sure that we have jobs and prosperity in the North of England. | :11:03. | :11:08.
Top of the list is to prepare for the high`speed railway from London. | :11:09. | :11:12.
The city regions want a new link across the Pennines from Manchester | :11:13. | :11:18.
to Leeds. This will join up the Lancashire and Yorkshire spurs of | :11:19. | :11:21.
the link when it arrives at the end of the 20 20s. It takes is twice as | :11:22. | :11:29.
long to travel in the North as it does in the South. If you shorten | :11:30. | :11:34.
the distance in time, you make living here are far more attractive | :11:35. | :11:40.
proposition. I am committed to making this a reality. I am | :11:41. | :11:43.
committed to bringing cities like Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester | :11:44. | :11:50.
closer together. This will be true schools, and universities and | :11:51. | :11:57.
science. This will be a global city the size of a Tokyo, a New York or a | :11:58. | :12:04.
London. Whatever the Chancellor does he has to make sure it is for the | :12:05. | :12:08.
economic benefit of Yorkshire and not with an eye towards next year 's | :12:09. | :12:10.
elections. The Yorkshire women who faced | :12:11. | :12:18.
death throughout World War One. They laboured under dangerous | :12:19. | :12:21.
conditions in Europe's But first, let's meet two | :12:22. | :12:23.
of Yorkshire's stars from Their reaction to winning gold was | :12:24. | :12:30.
one of the moments of the Games. City of Leeds pair Alicia Blagg and | :12:31. | :12:35.
Rebecca Gallantree teamed up in the 3`metre synchronised springboard to | :12:36. | :12:38.
snatch gold with their final dive. Let's just remind ours | :12:39. | :12:40.
elves how they did it. And it's a big ask, | :12:41. | :12:49.
but it is the biggest dive It is a forward three | :12:50. | :12:52.
and a half somersault with pike. They are going to be Commonwealth | :12:53. | :12:56.
champions. She is still kind of suffering, | :12:57. | :13:09.
but she's not suffering now. That is | :13:10. | :13:24.
the best anaesthetic you could possibly get, winning a Commonwealth | :13:25. | :13:29.
gold in the three metre Synchro. They didn't lead | :13:30. | :13:32.
until the final dive. You didn't win until the final dive. | :13:33. | :13:48.
The last time you clinched it by quite a way didn't you? Yes, we had | :13:49. | :13:51.
no idea. I thought it was fantastic. Just hearing the cloud cheering, | :13:52. | :14:07.
that was the best moment of my life. So there was no game plan? No | :14:08. | :14:15.
absolutely not. Youth and experience, did you have to come | :14:16. | :14:23.
this lady down? To be honest, Alicia has so much experience, we've been | :14:24. | :14:29.
working together for five years and she has come on so much in those | :14:30. | :14:32.
five years will stop I have seen her grow from a child to an experienced | :14:33. | :14:39.
athlete. There is an age gap, so how will you put together to begin with? | :14:40. | :14:47.
It was one of those things. Five years ago there was no one else | :14:48. | :14:53.
around with age and experience. The coaches could see the potential in | :14:54. | :14:57.
Alicia and they were right. Here we are five years later. Heavy techno | :14:58. | :15:08.
is up yet? No, not yet. We are talking about Rio coming up. Is that | :15:09. | :15:17.
on the agenda? Fingers crossed. That is the dream. When you talk about | :15:18. | :15:26.
the Olympics, you are talking about the Chinese and the Russians. Yes it | :15:27. | :15:34.
is a tough field. The Canadians were second. And the Australians were | :15:35. | :15:41.
third. The Malaysians are very good also. It was, will we even get a | :15:42. | :15:50.
medal? So you're confident for the Olympics then? More immediately, | :15:51. | :15:58.
what is happening? You can't have a rest. We have Europeans are less | :15:59. | :16:05.
than two weeks. We've had a couple of days off but now we are back into | :16:06. | :16:09.
training. It all start again in about three hours. You are both at | :16:10. | :16:16.
Dylan Biggs in 2012. How did the Commonwealth Games compare? | :16:17. | :16:21.
The cloud in Scotland was so loud. It took me back to being in London. | :16:22. | :16:31.
Obviously, it wasn't quite as big or spectacular but it was quite | :16:32. | :16:36.
similar. The cloud was amazing wasn't it? This was the best ever as | :16:37. | :16:43.
far as you are concerned. Was it special? Yes, definitely. It was my | :16:44. | :16:54.
third, wealth games. This was great because it was so close to home. I | :16:55. | :16:58.
had family watching. All of the other divers did to. It was more | :16:59. | :17:05.
special by what we achieved. I know you have an injury, but best of luck | :17:06. | :17:07.
to both of you. All this week on Look North, | :17:08. | :17:12.
we're working with Imperial War Museums to bring you | :17:13. | :17:14.
stories to mark the centenary of We're looking at how the war | :17:15. | :17:17.
affected people on the Home Front. In Leeds the Government built Europe's | :17:18. | :17:22.
biggest munitions factory, The Barnbow shell`making site stood | :17:23. | :17:24.
between Crossgates and Garforth. As Heidi Tomlinson reports, | :17:25. | :17:27.
it relied on skilled Yorkshire women, but it was | :17:28. | :17:29.
a dangerous place to work. A gentle window tap was the early | :17:30. | :17:36.
morning call for women workers torn away from their families, recruited | :17:37. | :17:39.
in huge numbers to make bombs. Whilst fathers, husbands and | :17:40. | :17:45.
brothers were risking life and limb on the front line, mothers, wives | :17:46. | :17:49.
and sisters formed a production line The Barnbow munitions factory | :17:50. | :17:53.
in Leeds was the biggest in Europe. 16 years ago, | :17:54. | :18:06.
Look North recorded the memories I used to clean my buttons | :18:07. | :18:08.
and I was proud of it. The commitment shown by Sally | :18:09. | :18:23.
and her 16,000 colleagues is being I don't know if the residents that | :18:24. | :18:27.
have moved in here noticed that their street names have | :18:28. | :18:37.
a definite reference to the past. Olive Yeates was one of 35 women and | :18:38. | :18:39.
girls who on a cold winter's night in 1916, died at the number one | :18:40. | :18:48.
shell filling factory at Barnbow. It is thought that | :18:49. | :18:54.
the blast was triggered when two bags of explosives were | :18:55. | :18:56.
packed in the wrong order. They were blown to bits, | :18:57. | :19:01.
to be honest. It was a horrible sight | :19:02. | :19:03.
for the rescuers and beyond that, an awful lot of woman were also | :19:04. | :19:07.
very, very badly maimed. A story, you would think, | :19:08. | :19:12.
too graphic for children today, but the young residents of these | :19:13. | :19:15.
streets named in tribute to those Do you know why it is named | :19:16. | :19:19.
Olive Yeates Way? Because it was either a man or | :19:20. | :19:26.
a woman that got blown up and they There's | :19:27. | :19:29.
an Amelia Stewart up there as well. What did you think when you | :19:30. | :19:44.
heard about the big explosion? Do you think it is a good thing that | :19:45. | :19:47.
they have their names on your roads? Local children may soon be playing | :19:48. | :19:55.
in a new park to be named The 38`year`old was drawn to | :19:56. | :19:59.
war duty when her husband She died in the explosion leaving | :20:00. | :20:05.
ten children without a mother. My father walked from York | :20:06. | :20:12.
to Barnbow to identify her. I think he got a cup of tea and | :20:13. | :20:18.
a bun when he had done it and then Bereaved families were given | :20:19. | :20:23.
around ?100 in compensation but no amount could repay the | :20:24. | :20:28.
sacrifice of the Barnbow lasses. BBC Radio Leeds will have more | :20:29. | :20:42.

but first here's a taste I thought I had gone into labour, | :21:28. | :21:30.
but it was just aches. I am not going anywhere, Rosie, | :21:31. | :21:37.
I am right here. Her name is Rosie. She is at Kim's | :21:38. | :21:50.
school. She is the one that kept | :21:51. | :21:55.
contacting her on her blog. It looks amazing and hopped already. | :21:56. | :21:57.
I am in the club. I had that. I think a lot of people | :21:58. | :22:27.
watching this, anyone who has had a child, can identify with one of the | :22:28. | :22:34.
characters. I have gone right across this social strata. From teenage | :22:35. | :22:40.
girls to 46`year`old women. I have tried to go right across. Everyone | :22:41. | :22:47.
suffers with something different when they are pregnant. It can be | :22:48. | :22:58.
throwing up. I had trapped wind. You have done so much in terms of | :22:59. | :23:06.
bringing drama to Yorkshire. I do try to. I love it. I am a Yorkshire | :23:07. | :23:12.
girl will stop I live ten minutes away from where I was born and it is | :23:13. | :23:15.
really important to me that drama is set here. In my early career, it was | :23:16. | :23:23.
almost taken over by Lancashire. I am not having a latter. Forming my | :23:24. | :23:28.
own company meant I could get Yorkshire on the screen. Will you be | :23:29. | :23:34.
having a party tonight? Are you nervous? I will be thinking, is | :23:35. | :23:41.
something going to go wrong. I have to be there to watch. You have seen | :23:42. | :23:47.
a ten times already. Yes I have. You have an attachment to this. Rosie | :23:48. | :23:56.
the teenage mum is based on you. Yes the spirit of Rosie is me. She tries | :23:57. | :24:06.
to hide her pregnancy. I was 16 from Pat cancels gait `` cancellers gate. | :24:07. | :24:09.
In that respect, I inspired the character of Rosie. It was therapy | :24:10. | :24:24.
for me. I have always wanted to write about that period of my life. | :24:25. | :24:29.
I was frightened to death. I knew this thing was going to happen. But | :24:30. | :24:33.
there was not much talked about in those days. It wasn't, people didn't | :24:34. | :24:41.
talk about it. We wish you all the best. Good luck tonight. That is on | :24:42. | :24:44.
at 9pm on BBC1. Some pictures before we begin the | :24:45. | :25:12.
forecast. The first is of Bamford edge. The second picture of a | :25:13. | :25:23.
reservoir. The third, you can just see some sun. We have got some wet | :25:24. | :25:32.
weather over the next week. The good news is the rain we were expecting | :25:33. | :25:41.
tomorrow will not happen. It will brighten up tomorrow morning with | :25:42. | :25:42.
scattered showers. That won't be with us for very long. | :25:43. | :25:53.
We had a pleasant morning. We have seen more cloud pushing from the | :25:54. | :25:56.
West. There are a few showers about but they will die away before we see | :25:57. | :26:02.
another band of rain pushing. Some dry spells but you can see the rain | :26:03. | :26:08.
pushing up from the south`west. Heavy and persistent in places. It | :26:09. | :26:15.
is going to be a maquis humid night. Temperatures no lower than 17 | :26:16. | :26:16.
Celsius. The sun will rise in the morning at | :26:17. | :26:20.
five 20 5am. We start the day with a lot of rain. | :26:21. | :26:35.
Quite quickly, that will push away. Behind it, drier and brighter | :26:36. | :26:41.
conditions. The showers will be fairly well scattered. There will be | :26:42. | :26:47.
sunshine for all at some point. It will be breezy. We went loose the | :26:48. | :26:54.
warmth. Temperatures will be up to around 22 Celsius. A fine day on | :26:55. | :26:56.
Thursday. That is it from the look North team. | :26:57. | :27:01.
I will be back at 10:25pm. We don't tend to use the bathroom | :27:02. | :28:00.
together here. I leave the ashram, travel halfway | :28:01. | :28:01.
across the world to find my father, Oh, well. As Vashrati says, | :28:02. | :28:07.
gotta keep smiling! | :28:08. | :28:12. |
